Craigslist housing service

A few years ago I had no problem finding safe housing on Craigslist. In fact, I successfully found two apartments in the past. Now, just a mere few years later, the site has become flooded with scam after scam. Everything ranging from people trying to have you send money without seeing the space, to reposting word for word and asking for a credit score (efreescore). In my opinion Craigslist has become unsafe and unreliable. They do offer warnings, but they should be actively assisting in sifting out scams as well. It makes them lose credibility and users. If they don't care enough to filter out these posts then why should we care enough to use their service. I have been searching for apartments and have run into several people trying to ask for money without seeing the place, shady pictures, asking for credit scores, and posts that are word for word the same. It's ridiculous.

What's happened at Craigslist is that criminals and super rogue flaggers have hijacked the website. These flaggers that were recruited to save the site from evil advertisers have re-armed themselves with black market malware which gives their owner the ability to flagg ads at will, tricking the CL computer with flags from multiple isp addresses. The ads go down and the terrorist criminal gets access to the account. So whatever your category there is someone there who is criminally stalking the site to hit commercial or hot button subject ads. They simply disappear, not notification from the computer or from staff over there, who are equally guilty of anonymous flagging. Who suffers? People trying to rehome animals, people trying to sell things, and everyone who comes onto the site is a potential victim. What has CL done-absolutely nothing to add additional filters and sign in procedures for users. They do keep hammering the advertisers with telephone verifications.
If you have been or been criminally flagged file a complaint with your local police department and the San Francisco police cyber crimes division also. If Cl's gets enough criminal complaints maybe they will change things if they are still open.

Craigslist blocking policy

With the best intentions I tried to advertise a wheelchair free for anyone who might need it. I made the mistake of mentioning GMail in the post and they blocked the ad. I am sick and tired of their campaign against G Mail ! I have to do a work around to even reply to an ad that I am interested. I HATE THAT.

Craigslist Fraud

I wanted to rent a beach house in Rehobeth Beach Delaware for 3 adults and two dogs. I found one on Craigslist #[protected]. The realator Janelle Burns told me the house was 1200 a week and wanted me to send a $600 deposit to the owner Tonya Butler at 2119 N. Watt Ave Muncie, In 47303. I and made sure that both the addresses in Indiana and Delaware did exist. Janelle sent me her email address and phone number [protected]@gmail.com. She also sent me a contract which I filled out and attached and emailed back to her. She said I had to send a Postal Money order made out to Tonya. I went to the post office today and mailed it out priority mail with delivery confirmation and a signature required. I emailed Janelle back and tried to call but the number she gave me [protected] was out of service. I have put a package intercept on the postal money order and hope I can get it back. As it is I am out now $30 between shipping and intercept fees but it could be $630 if the Money order is not intercepted.

I received an unsolicited email from georgethompson999@gmail.com about selling pianos.

I am a piano teacher. I don't know how this person got my personal email. I use a different email address for any subscriptions. The email address he sent to was one I use for people I actually know and have met in person.

His initial email and his response were both sketchy. There was no introduction, just a body of several paragraphs about pianos and keyboards he is selling. There was also no signature. When he responded to my inquiry about where he is located (to see if it was coming from a brick and mortar business) he gave me some line about having cancer and closing his store, yet he is still selling pianos. He isn't a great communicator.

I'm glad I found this. A google search of his email address leads me to believe he is a scam artist.

I guess police did not care much about it, cause I also wanted to rent a house from this person. In my case she asked for a house like 4 times less than it's actual price. I googled this house and prices that showed up were way higher, plus days I asked for were not available on those other sites. I knew at that time that this should be a fraud. I found a phone of the home owner and called that guy. He said he never heard anything about craigslist adds and did not respond to me for sure. I just received a contract from her and googled the name and ended up on this site, which just doubled proved what I found. Now I wonder if whatever police has is enough or should someone like me contact police as well.
Anyway, if you see something suspicious try to find and talk to the owner.
Someone should go to prison

I just want to thank whom ever reported this FRAUD!

I was searching for a Rental home in New Orleans when I came across this Ad; http://neworleans.craigslist.org/vac/5115745912.html
I wrote to them and they replied to me a set price of $400. I had to send $200 by USPS Money Order to
Tonya butler
2119 n. Watt ave
Muncie in 47303
Which I did send it next day with Delievery Confirmation. After sending it I googled this persons name. I FOUND this website. I was on time to report my STOLEN Money Order and put an Interfiernce on the envelope.
This mysterious person has changed her email address to Amanda Mefford

Tonya Butler is now using the name George Thompson as her fake realtor/representative. The e-mail that I corresponded with is georgethompson999@gmail.com. He was asking me to transfer directly to her account. Information is as follows:
Account Holder - Tonya Butler
Bank Name - Prime Trust Federal Credit Union
Bank address - 3700 west bethel ave.
Muncie, in. 47304
Routing number:[protected]
Account number: 1003528
Craigslist.com
Luckily I forwarded the e-mails to a friend and she googled Tonya's name and found this article. We reported everything to the police and even contacted the SAOR, the website that the pictures came from on the craigslist post. Hopefully this will help someone in the future!

I sent Tonya Butler $500. When I asked Janelle Burns when I would receive the signed contract I was told that the owner wanted all of the $ up front. (Postal Money Order) I asked her to refund the deposit and she said she would put it in the mail last week. No refund yet. Almost got scammed a second time through a listing on Craigslist.I am going to call the police in Muncie Indiana. That $ is going somewhere and I believe this is a crime.

Craigslist flagging system is corrupt

I've been advertising on craigslist for 5 years. We have a vacation home we rent from time to time and we follow all the rules of craigslist, even though there are multiple ads in the vacation section from rental companies and real estate companies. We've never really had any issue until we placed an ad in Jan 2015. From Jan 2015-Mar 2015, EVERY SINGLE AD WAS FLAGGED EVERY SINGLE DAY THE FIRST 30 MINUTES IT WAS ON THE SITE. We had 22 ads in a row that were flagged until ad #23 somehow escaped the flagging. There is something really wrong here! It takes me 45 mins to create an ad since the flagged ad is useless. Load pictures, show map details...then it takes them just seconds to flag it. This has to be some sort of auto-bot flagging system. I tried changing the wording, the pictures to no avail. Since ad #23, all the ads after that have been flagged and deleted. We have NEVER had this problem before. And because of it, our vacation home, which we rent for the summer months is usually booked full by mid March. It is now mid April and our house has no renters for the summer because we can't even get a single ad on craigslist! But we certainly notice the multiple ads by large rental companies fill the pages...their ads are never deleted. I have written craigslist SEVERAL times...gave them my craigslist acct so they can go in and see all the pink deleted ads. No answer but an auto response. I finally wrote the corporate office and gave a suggestion to do away with the corrupted flagging system. Allow people to mark a box if they find an ad suspicious and a comment section linked to the ad...where people can view the comments or not. But they need to stop allowing flaggers to delete whatever ads they want...this system is so ridiculous...it's completely one sided and favors the abuser 100%. It's very sad that corporate craigslist is just sitting on the sidelines doing absolutely nothing when the blog sites are filled to capacity with people begging them to do away with the flagging system. I hope someone comes up with a site that will knock craigslist off their pedestal...it is filled with trash, scammers and criminals.

Craigslist discrimination against bbw in personals

Craigslist (daytona) discriminates against bbw posting on personals

I'm a bbw trying to post on cl for a guy who wouldn't mind dating someone like myself:

All my posts were flagged for removal within minutes of posting.

All I did was post honestly about myself and the type of guy I was looking for.

Craigslist flagging/removing legitimate ads

I'm a musician and posted an ad looking for a band in my area. A few days ago, I noticed it had been flagged for removal. To the best of my knowledge, I am not violating any terms of service. There is nothing inappropriate in the ad. I have tried a couple times to re-word the ad and re-post it, and it still gets flagged. I'm wondering if someone from Craigslist is doing this or if it is another person browsing the website. I've tried unsuccessfully to contact the site by phone, but they claim they're unable to answer questions over the phone. According to them, you have to refer to their Help/FAQ section on the website. This has not helped me at all. I even sent them an email asking for an explanation as to why my ad was flagged and removed and as of yet I've gotten no response from them. What can I do about this?

Craigslist web site content is, much like the internet in general, an open sewer. Craigslist management, such as it is, not unlike google's management, do NOT care what the consumer thinks or cares about the quality of the web site's editing programs. In the case of Craigslist, they have no competition. In the case of google they know, just like the consumers who use their search engine, that the quality offered by their competitors is, well, so far behind google that you're going to end up returning and using them anyway. Neither craigslist, nor google want to answer your questions, either legitimate, or otherwise. Sure, each refers you to their `Frequently Asked Questions' page. Who asked these questions? Who did they pose them to? Who answered them and with what degree of competency? After reading their inane list of 5, 999 questions, you're going to learn something - your question was not among them and the answers given to their fabricated questions were, either incomplete, or inaccurate. Craigslist, like google, has one too many brain dead Republicans in management. Did they really have to hire, grant admission and set one loose on the web site software?

I am having the same problem posting an add for a Cushman Truckster and a Chevy Van RV. I have sent several letters under www.craigslist/contact and I never receive anything close to what I have said but this shotgun blast of everything possible to answer the question that after 20 minutes posting a good add x 3 places = reject = 20 minutes to write a complaint t = not being answered, I am thinking that there 1. Isn't anyone live to help and 2. Craigslist has lost its original direction/purpose

Craigslist lorismel matos mendez

This was a classic CraigsList scam. I should have known better but after speaking with Lorismel Matos Mendez over the phone I felt like he was honest, i was very wrong. The moment I deposited a portion of the funds needed for him to ship me the item, he stopped taking my calls and likely shut down his account. I have copies of Lorismel Matos Mendez passport and permanent resident card for the USA. If anyone knows how to prosecute him or has more information about please let me know. I have a singed contract with him that he is not honoring and I don't mind spending money to bring this criminal to justice.

Lorismel Matos Mendez is a real scammer from La Habana Cuba. Its a warning don’t trust this person. He will stab your back. When I met him he seemed a good person, I looked for his name on google and found all this comments and thought everything was false because his behavior seems different from all said here before and still trusted him. He will rob you and make it look that he didn’t do it even if you have all the proof.

That last comment I'd probably from Loren himself. I personally know this guy. My roommate and took him and helped settle here from Cuba. After about three months I had been fed up with my stuff dissapearing and he pulled a knife on me over an argument regarding a video game, so moved out with my girlfriend and bought my own place. He then befriended some close friends of mine and I told them I was not going to hang out with them if he is at the same location. They kept hanging out with him and he eventually took pictures of the credit cards and check book of my friend's wife. He then used them to commit fraud. He then took my former roommate to the cleaners for thousands. I kept warning them all but they learned the hard way. He at one point confessed that in Cuba he was always scamming tourists and prostituting himself. He moved to Mexico because he had warrant in the US for petty stuff like driving without a license.

I KNOW that you will screw over the wrong person in Mexico and you will disappear. Good riddance I say.

Has any of you stoped to think if that was the person who actually scammed you? maybe that Lorismel guy is just anothervictim of identity thief and the real scammer is using his information to commit his crimes, I too was scammed by someone using this name Lorismel Matos but after searching his phone number and email address I found another name linked to them ( Abdhul Zarahg) and this guy was emailing me from Siria, he claimed to be living at 8328 Spring Desert Pl, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 but the IP address was from Siria, he also had a weird accent, just saying, who would give that kind of information out if they knew what they were doing? Just think about it

Good point, I don’t believe a good scammer would provide his/her own information while commiting a crime unless that person is [censor] or something, it is obvious that this person keeps getting away with it and keeps using the same information over and over again, at some point the person with the name being used is going to be questioned by authorities and either go free or to jail, and only then we will know the truth but I’m going to bet that the person with the name being questioned is 100% innocent and has no idia of what’s going on which is sad but also the unfortunate reality of how many people are victims or identity thief these days, Maybe this guy is the scammer but maybe he is not, I just think it is a bit stupid to use your own name to commit a crime multiple times that’s all

Craigslist Sale of faulty / broken treadmill

I purchased a treadmill from Mr. Thompson on Mother's Day, May 11th, with the monetary gifts that I received. I am disabled and live on a very small fixed income following the motorcycle accident that took my husband's life (no life ins and hit by uninsured teen). One year later I was involved in a motor vehicle accident (also hit my uninsured teen). I gained 80 pounds (emotional eating/injuries) and need and greatly need a treadmill. Walking in neighborhood is not an option any longer being that I cannot rely on my back/legs (fell recently and paramedics called). Mr. Thompson told me by phone that the treadmill worked great and that he was selling because he was moving. He also mentioned that he is a local realtor so I felt comfortable trusting him. He loaded it onto my truck and the maintenance man where I stay unloaded it the next morning. Upon plugging it in we discovered that it did not work. Mr. Thompson demonstrated that it worked by quickly turning it on and off which did not concern me because I believed him to be trustworthy (local realtor). I immediately phoned him and informed him that I wanted to return it as soon as it was convenient for him and get my money back. He refused saying that I must have broken it. He acknowledged that it had broken before and text me instructions on fixing it. He also emailed me instructions on fixing it. I explained that I could not fix it because I do not even own a screwdriver. He replied with a short-tempered sounding text saying that he was trying to help
me. Because he was so adamant about not returning my money I suggested that we go to court to try to resolve this matter. He responded very arrogantly that he was not going to return my money. He said that if I fixed it, it would probably work. I responded telling him if he gave me my money back he could fix it and resell it being that I could not. It is obvious to me that he was aware from the beginning that it was faulty. He also told me that it would be stupid for me to take him to court for $120.00 because that was nothing. That is a lot for me! I am not a realtor. His advertisement asking price was $150.00 but when I phoned him he offered to drop the price down to $120.00 if I drove to Gladden Farms in Marana, AZ from Tucson, AZ to pick it up making it sound as though he really was giving me a great deal… he was not. I have all the texts and emails related to this horrible matter that I can supply anyone to view. It is an appalling situation emerging from a so-called trustworthy realtor that I have been forced to suffer a huge
financial loss as well as a huge loss to the potential health qualities that I would have received from a working treadmill.

Yes, very common scam. They convince people to wire money to get keys to this wonderful place at a great price. Has nothing to do with you or your agent and you can do nothing to stop it.

Craigslist fake ad entered with my address

I answered an ad on Craigslist for a handy man to build a wall. He gave me an estimate and had a small child with him, saying his son was on winter break and he would use the opportunity to teach him a craft. I paid half of the money in a check with the date post dated to the day of work. I was in contact with him up to the morning. He cashed my check and ran. Wouldn't answer phone, text or email. I did a thorough background check( yes, a little to late) and discovered he has an AKA and his wife has 7 alias'. I posted an ad on Craigslist warning others which was promptly flagged. A man contacted me and said he had ripped him of just 2 weeks earlier. I contacted the wife to let her know I knew who they were and her information. I said I just want my money back. Immediately a got a call from a different number, it was the scammer calling me with a threat. Within minutes my phone started ringing off the hook and my doorbell kept ringing. Someone showed me an ad on Craigslist with my address, phone number and it said everything was free, come get it. For the next hour I had over 100 phone calls and at least 75 trucks pulling up outside. Ringing my door. I posted an ad that there was nothing free at this address and flagged it but it took an hour for it to come down. There is a serious problem with Craigslist when people can just make a fake ad and send people to your door and give out your phone number. I guess at this point I need to stop trying to get my money back as this guy is crazy, a criminal with no morals.

Craigslist abuse

I was stalked, threatened, harassed. I had reported it to Craigslist and IC3 and nothing was ever done, the same men who preformed this are still active, destroying another countries culture, promoting prostitution and pre-marital sex, when i tried to defend against them, they used flagging software to block my posts and committed the acts above.

Craigslist craig's list is okay if you are a buyer but to be an advertiser was a real waste of my time

Craig's list is okay if you are a buyer but to be an advertiser was a real waste of my time. Each time I posted an ad to sell something the only replies I got were ###s who don't know how to read the part that says not to solicit me. The only ads that got the desired results were my cell phone ads and my software ads. I answered a couple of job ads on Craigs list that turned out to be scams. I stopped using this site and went elsewhere. If you want to use this web site that's up to you. Use it with caution. I don't reccomend Craig's List.

the only answers I received from Craigs List Ads for sale by me, were fromscam artists. I entered an ad for work wanted and it
was taken out by someone else within a day. I could not get the ad back on. There was nothing wrong with the ad and was fully compliant with Craig's List policies. I do not try on Craigs List anymore.

Craigslist scammer

Someone tried to scam me when I posted a desk on craigslist using the same two e-mail addresses that the other's have posted [protected]@gmail.com and [protected]@yahoo.co.uk I had this happen once before so I was on to him I am glad to see there's a place to post this kind of fraud

Hello,

Thanks for the response, just to let you know that am okay with the condition and price of the item, am ready for its purchase and am willing to add extra $20 so that you can keep it in my favor. My form of payment will be by sending you a Certified Bank Check via UPS 1/2days delivery.

I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the movers/pick up money will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable movers to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after check has been cashed, as i have other properties to be moved alongside with yours.

I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible. kindly get back to me with your full name and address including your cell and land number so i can make out payment.

Regards,

Williams

FYI people seems like at least 90% of personal ads in the casual encounters section are scams to link to other sites to get credit card info or some other sensitive info. Don't be fooled do the check on sites like this or others.

If the email address comes from something that you've never seen before (ie not gmail, yahoo, aol, hotmail) thats an immediate red flag.

The second red flag as those email domains as well, as they are free to get. Also do some back and forth before you send any sensitive information, often times the persons email address changes between correspondences.

General rules of thumb. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Take some extra precautions when interacting with personal ads, setup a dummy email address that doesn't have any personal info about yourself (fake name, address etc) there should be nothing that links back to who you actually are.

Be safe and happy hunting

Craigslist blocking my ip

i wrote to craigslist complaining about spam and it seems my ip has been blocked by any and all craigslist.org sites. this is very good business practice, instead of blocking the ip of the scammer they have blocked mine. seems that sprint offices and others must contribute to the financial well being of our buddy craig and he cares nothing about his users.

Craigslist scam sale

Someone called 'Dan', using an email address of [protected]@gmail.com, is 'selling' some laser tag guns on Craigslist in London. He claims to be in North Ayrshire, KA25 7HQ (insistent on telling you that in every email). However, his bank details provided - for a purchase of over £1400 - was under the name of V D Stoican.

Bank Details provided for 'Dan':
Bank Name : Barclays
Name : V D Stoican
Sortcode : 2**915
Account : **579263

He adds:
"10 Brockly View, Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, KA25 7HQ. Once you send the funds give me a copy from the bank receipt or a digital picture so I can verify.".

Dodgy, VERY dodgy.

Glad I saw this site, as other people had reported his name - thanks for highlighting it, and sorry to hear about other cases involving this guy.

Craigslist no voip phone verification

Worst online service ever.
What a remarkable level of incompetence.
So huge, yet so distant from what is happening on their own site.

Scammers are given free reign to post an unlimited number of scams.
While honest ' real ‘ considerate people are NOT allowed to post at all.
They can’t even manage something as simple as their own flagging process.
It’s like they want the scammers to take over their site

Phone verification system is a joke, with absolutely no verification alternative if you use a VoIP phone service.
They say to: “Check out the phone authentication help page”
Oh, DUH.
And then provide a fake link that appears to be helpful:: “Problems? Let us know.”
Yeah, right.
All you get is the same standard response every time with the same help links that you already read.
With no real person to contact.
I've been letting them know for over 2 years now and they couldn’t care less.
What a bunch of creeps.
