Yelp.com Fraud

Yelp contacted me to advertise I said no. Within three months my reviews were all filtered and what few negative reviews here were are left on. Every time a customer puts a good review on my business they remove it to the filtered area. They called again to ask about advertising I expressed my concerns the woman told me maybe I should advertise and see what happens. This company is trying to extort money for leaving good reviews. They need to be stopped. I will be contacting an attorney it as a small business money iSight I ope this will help

Yelp.com Free speech? Real reviews by real people?

Yelp claims that it is "real people, real reviews" — they are only true when Yelp likes them, or Yelp has gotten advertisement income. When a friend complained to me that yelp filtered / picked and chose reviews it liked, I was skeptical. Turned out he was truthful.

We found this 5 star rated electrician in Sacramento. He is on the top of the list. Turned out he was overpriced and not that great. We gave up working with him. But while searching further, I found another electrician who has probably 10+ genuine, good reviews. All of them got filtered out. I guessed he refused to advertise on Yelp.

I recently am fighting the plastic bags bans and bag fee throughout California. There is a witch hunt going on making these thin plastic bags the greatest evil on earth, though they were cheap to make; hence take less resources. Many of us use them as trash bags which are thinner than the "formal" trash bags, and for doggie waste. Many were brought back to stores to be recycled. And the 10c per bag fee imposed on ALL retailers turned customers away. Folks like me have boycott shopping (discretionary shopping) since SF imposed the fee on 10/1/12. Yelp did not like my "talk / discussion", and my blog "repealbagfee. blogspot.com". So it suspended my "talk privilege".

I thought this country guarantees free speech. The greenies can write all kind of nasty comments on me. Yelp was okay with that. But when I called for civic activism in a civil manner, Yelp was not happy, for I stood on the way of law makers and greenies, the politically correct side.

Actually, Tripadvisor has the same problem, too. Tripadvisor deleted reviewers comments on bed bugs (!) in some hotel. And Tripadvisor's major source of income is from advertising. No wonder. Checked out reviews on Yelp on Tripadvisor.

I guess all this is understandable — they are all corporations. And law makers — aren't any better.
So, take what you read on Yelp and Tripadvisor with a grain of salt, and cross-check on each other website that the hotels are free of bed bugs... Our friends stayed in one in Japan. It was — full of bed bugs. When they complained to the inn keeper, she said "that room too..."

Yelp.com Yelp is a complete rip off

Small Business Owner here and I'm here to tell you Yelp is the worst! ONLINE EXTORTION! Had a couple good reviews on yelp months back but the yelp listings was on the 9th or 10th page on google organically. Got a negative review and then all my good reviews... about 29 got somehow "filtered" so that my potenial customers only see the negative review... this negative review is now on the FIRST page of google in searching our particular catagory online... once that review went live the sales folks at yelp kept calling and implied if I paid that somehow my good reviews may re-apper. They tell me that a customer has the right to say negative things which is true but my clients that have posted good reviews have a right to have them seen as well! Yelp tells me that they have no control over the "filter" seems odd that none of my good reviews can be seen and the only bad one can... NOT FAIR!
YELP IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF... no other review site filters... you get the good with the bad... google local... angies list, service majic, home pro they all post both the good and the bad... IF you are a small business owner... never register with yelp.

Yelp keeps filtering out legitimate reviews. As soon as a client puts a review on my http://www.yelp.com/biz/a-night-to-remember-sacramento they filter them out!
This is driving me nuts! how can they justify filtering out only the good reviews?
I am open to a class action lawsuit against yelp if someone starts one up!

This site is a very biased site. They blast negative reviews all over the web. They hide favorable reviews and in some cases actually remove them for no reason. That is unless you advertise with them. If you pay their advertising fees the negative reviews will disappear and the the positive will be highlighted. How do owners of these types of scams live with themselves. Oh well one day they will be judged whether by our courts or a higher one!

My rational and concise complaints were all removed from yelp.com.

Yelp has thus negated its purpose for existing which is to provide both the bad and good consumer experiences.

Will no longer waste my time posting on yelp.

For years, Yelp has been publicly accused of extortion—asking for money from businesses that are automatically listed on the site in exchange for preferred placement on the site. There are also accusations of abruptly vanishing positive reviews and suddenly appearing negative reviews.
Yelp has been doing this to me for several months.
They call me wanting me to pay them a minimum of $200.00 a month to advertise. When I refuse and warn them not to call me anymore, they take a few of my (5 star) reviews and hide them.
I had 13 (5 star) reviews and now I only have 4 of them... the rest are hidden.
Yelp continues to call me (even though I told them not to). And every time I refuse to pay (or I complain about their extortion scam) another 5 star review disappears.
MEANWHILE, Another fake (1 star) bad review suddenly appears on my yelp page... the person wasn't even a customer of mine.
I contacted yelp and rode-their-### to remove this review for violation Yelp's rules. Yelp not only left it up, but when I hung up the phone, another % star review was taken down.
It's clear that Yelp Flags small businesses that don't pay the extortion money and bullies these businesses untill they do.

I am a small business Owner of a Nail & Beauty Salon in NY who concurs with the above comments about Yelp. They are definitely driven by their Sales Department who conspires to make you buy into a monthly note ($$$) in order to keep your good reviews up and not filtered. Even after sending many emails in reference to my complaint it was just a wait of time, and really make it their business to punish you by taken down any reviews that make your business be more competitive in the area your located. So, if you are thinking about uses Yelp to promote your business look out for the trap! Your better off creating your own web site than put up with their nonsense. Good Luck

The same thing basically happened to us. The question is "what do you do about it?" I emailed Yelp to be able to respond to the negative reviews, but cannot access the account that I set up with them. After several emails requesting a conversation with someone to fix the problem, I am still waiting (since Sept 2013) The bad reviews are visible and all of the good reviews are hidden, although a month ago, the good reviews were also visible (or recommended). When I checked today, the same good reviews visible a month ago are now "not recommended". Why? who knows that Logic?
So I am guessing Yelp is some sort of automated Droid, incapable of making coherent decisions, or it is a run by a group of unethical humans with only some sort of profit motive driving them. Either way - i believe It will self destruct in time.
I will spend my time improving my business and trying to listen to my customers to provide the best service possible. We are doing better than ever despite Yelp. I do not use it anymore for recommendations of any kind because it is not reliable.

I am in the massage business in New Jersey, and having the same problem with Yelp.com
I will just paste an email letter of complaint that i sent to them a few hours ago. I don't even want to be on their site anymore
I just want them to delete my business, but they refused to do so. is it legal for Yelp to prevent people from
removing their listing from their site?
This is the email i sent them tonight: Dear Yelp.com:
You have moved 10 reviews for my business to your filtered folder, four of them within
the last 2 weeks or so. This is clearly an act of bias and hostility on your part, against my business; and it is
a disturbing invalidation of your FAQ on Filtered Reviews.

It seems like you are conducting an orchestrated campaign to maintain a low rating and a
very negative image of my business in the eyes of the public. You are very much aware that businesses such
as my own, are easily vulnerable to 'nasty' public comments. In the meantime, your sales people have
contacted me to purchase advertising on your website.

I reaffirm my request to have my listing deleted from your website, Yelp.com for reasons stated previously, and
for new reasons stated above.

Yelp are being protected by the BBB as I reported them and was told even though they state quite honestly "if you pay us we will help you big time, but if you refuse get ready to have your online reputation destroyed" there is nothing the BBB can do because they told the truth up front lol.

The BBB even admitted that they had been told by Yelp the same as me when they were contacted the very fact they were honest meant they would keep their rating!

YELP is practically ruining small business' reputation like real estate agencies around Boston, YELP surely is being paid for by bigger real estate to post only negative comments about these business and filter the good reviews. I find this practice by YELP unfair, hateful. My good reviews about a great small real estate agency in Brighton were filtered. YELP should be fined, or put OUT OF BUSINESS by authorities because it seems if they are NOT PAID, they trash small business everywhere in USA.

Yelp.com Something consumers should know about the yelp extortion

Something consumers should know about the yelp extortion: the lawsuits made to yelp.com are they back again in 2013? Beware of false yelp reviews! On small businesses. Go to pixsym.com/yelp-extortion for your self a disclaimer, on this post contains quite a bit of personal conjecture. Online reputation management for small businesses is one of my personal passions. Managing a company that helps businesses utilize new media successfully is something I really take pride in. The thought of review sites taking advantage of user generated content to eek extra cash out of already-tapped small businesses really (And I mean really) irks me.

October of 2011 a class-action lawsuit against yelp claiming that they were removing negative reviews in exchange for advertising was dismissed with prejudice (Meaning they cannot be sued again for the same reason). It s now january of 2012 and already it seems the complaints of extortion are not going away; in 2013 instead they appear to be growing more frequent in numbers as awareness has risen that something fishy could be going on at yelp.
As I come across blogs that talk about yelp, a quick scroll down the page to the comment area brings forth a slew of business owners claiming that yelp is still filtering reviews based on whether they advertise. Here are a few places to read recent comments:

An article that started out talking about yelp s review filter lives on in the comments with many angry small business owners.

The we hate yelp facebook group exposes concerns from users and business owners alike
If yelp, is in fact, doing everything on the up and up, they are still facing quite a predicament. On one hand they don t want fake reviews to cause consumers to distrust them and on the other hand they don t want businesses and their reviewers to distrust how they handle their reviews. And in the mean time... Thousands of people each day are making buying decisions based upon the visible reviews on yelp.
As a business owner, what has been your experience with yelp? Good? Bad? Indifferent?
Let s talk about it in the comments below...
I received one bad review on yelp. From a customer that kept demanding a $500 item they did not pay for (After I had already given them several free gifts.) subsequently, yelp removed every single good review I have... But left this nasty review. According to their supposed filter system... This bad reviewer with no other reviews, no friends, and no image... Should also be removed, eh? Several of the positive reviews I received were from verified yelp members... Who even posted pictures of the events I photographed! Yelp still removed them. So now, rather than 12 good reviews and 1 bad... I have this one hovering nasty review with 1 star. When my good reviews started disappearing is when they started calling twice a week to hit me up for advertising. Again, the claim that they could have my filtered reviews looked at to make sure they were valid and restored. This is how they extort money out of us?!
Samara hart

Jessica, your frustrations mimic that of so many. Your story is yet further proof that yelp s review filter is hurting far more than it s helping. Whether yelp is manually or algorithmically hiding reviews, it s a disgrace.
Daniel negrea

Same story for me.. Refused their advertising and in 2 weeks
All my reviews are gone..:)

Untrue statements made on http://yelp.com toward jd lawn care service by joe kristufek from westmont, il. Only to bash and slander their business becouse of a late fee charge that was issued to joe k. For not paying his bill on time by the due date.

I am a business owner and my website designer signed my site up on Yelp and told me it was a useful tool to get your busines going. Well, initially no one really paid attention to this much - I hardly remember to get my clients to yelp us, until recently, I had to let go of a staff for dishonesty, and bam I started to get new clients telling me to look at yelp. made a couple of complaints to yelp letting them know that some of the reviews on their site are false, never heard of these clients names and some totally off on their 'supposed' services done, and one even got the city where I moved from incorrectly, which I found strange, I would hardly tell a client where I moved from - but anyways, I got worried and so I started to ask lot more of my clients to yelp us. Then, somehow I think my call to them triggered their sales team and they're actually using a different tactic on businesses now due to their earlier lawsuit. With our business, they blocked or filtered all of our good legitimate reviews and fronted all the negative reviews fraudulently put on by the ex-staff (my assumption of course). The coincidence was that right after I called them to complaint I got 2-3 emails asking me to pay $290 per month to get my ratings to 5 stars - they bluntily told me that they have 10-15 email accounts that are elite rated by yelp (suppose to mean frequent reviewers) and that they can put out 5 star reviews for me on yelp and anytime there's a bad review is put on they will mask it with their good ones so my stars stay up. I bluntly told them what I thought of that kind of fraud reviews, I said to them then nothing really is legit then on yelp - if anyone paying this price can get a 5 star rating then what's the point of the public going to read on this and trust this? Well, you think I ever got a reply back on that email!

I had 11 reviews which showed up on YELP, all positive. Then they began calling asking us to advertise with them. When I told them that I wasn't interested in advertising just so they would not put competitors adds on my free page, all of my reviews became filtered. I have emailed them several times but they will not respond.

The more and more complaints like this that I read from innocent small business owners such as myself, the more outraged I become, as I am too a victim of Yelps shady practices. Frequently, I search the web for reviews from customers and in 10 years, have not had one negative until recently after doing a search, came across a negative review on Yelp, Yahoo and one other misc. pet sitting site from an annonymous user. These reviews popped up shortly after taking an individual to court on a personal matter. I contacted the annonymous user "Chris T" demanding he remove the phony review, but got no response therefore I contacted the companies directly. Two companies gladly removed the obvious fake review, however Yelp on the other hand did just the opposite. I had a 5 star review from a legit client in 2011 that was unfiltered. The new phony review was in filtered. I complained about the phony review and suddenly the positive review went into filtered and the phony negative review went right up front into unfiltered, so now that's the only review showing. As a business owner, I am supposed to be given the opportunity to respond to the complaint, however all 4 times I responded, they were removed from Yelp. Last month, I filed a complaint with the BBB and Yelp denies doing any of this, stating that their filters are random. This is a complete and total lie, as I have screen shots showing my response as a business owner and them disappearing almost immediately. Now that I've complained I swear Yelp is making this personal. How is Yelp getting away with doing this to innocent business owners? I've been in business for 10 years with an outstanding reputation and am now a victim of Yelp showing my business with a 1 star rating based on a fake review!

Yelp.com Long story short, I don't trust their review filter process at all anymore

Here's the thing about yelp - great user experience and great, honest reviews. I used to live by them. Then, I tried to help my mom set up an account for her business. She got a bunch of 5-star reviews from her clients. As a business owner, she was thrilled to see her yelp page (And thus website) showing super high in google searches for offers in her area. Thrilled, of course, until yelp filtered every single review. Not just 1 or 2, but all 6 of the 5-star reviews her diligent customers left. : (Try contacting their support to ask them questions about this kind of thing. First, try *finding* their support! It doesn't really exist. They'll give you a canned response talking about why they filter reviews. Yes, I know that scammers will try anything to get their businesses up high in the ranks. But 6 different reviews from real people my mom shakes hands with every day? I don't think so.

I've since learned that is a pretty common and very sleazy yelp practice to make you pay for additional services. My mom can't afford that and why should she? With word of mouth, her business was doing great. Just wish yelp would help me fix her page, and it makes me wonder how many other businesses have low or non-existent reviews because of all this.

So yeah. Long story short, I don't trust their review filter process at all anymore. : (sad, because I know I personally put a lot of time and effort into my reviews.

Yelp.com Yelp is more about the reviewer than the business being reviewed

I think too much of the time, Yelp is more about the reviewer than the business being reviewed. While it can be helpful for gathering info on a restaurant, I leave it at that, and then use additional sites to supplement Yelp. I just don't find it very helpful.

Yelp (like Angies list) are phony. The nature of comments are diddled with. You can pay to have negative reviews removed. See elsewhere on this site (and others) where this is discussed. I caught Yelp removing 2 negative comments I posted - probably got paid to do that. Eff 'em. Waste of time.

Yelp.com Yelp fraud and scam

We believe that Yelp is rigging their system to filter out great reviews on businesses that do not advertise through them.  The salsesperson calls us everyday to advertise but since we did not advertise with Yelp, we noticed all of our 5 stars reviews were filtered out.  We wrote to them to inquire about the only negative review and ask that they remove it since it was an attempt from a questionable legitimate client.  We expressed our concerns about the truthfulness of this review since we never had such a client.
We have flagged this questionable review and asked that Yelp investigate and after a week we got no response.  We e-mailed the company again to inquire about removing this fraudulent negative review.   We got no response from them, however we got 5 calls from their advertisement department asking us to advertise with them and we can get our company to top spot.

We logged into Yelp and now found that all our 5 Stars  were filtered out.  Since we can't get a hold of the people at Yelp,  we expressed our concerns with the advertising person from Yelp.  She told us it's not her department but she believed that Yelp has any algorithm that filters out certain reviews.  We believe that Yelp is using their service to force businesses to advertise with them and filter out 5 Star reviews on businesses that don't advertise with Yelp.  It is fraud and we urge all victims to report to BBB or call FTC [protected].

Even for consumers, Yelp represents fraud. I just had horrible experience with an auto transport company in Burlingame, CA. They damage my auto and refused to honor any damage claims. They got so scared of my review that they offered $100 off to anyone quoting their response to my review. Yelp filtered it out within an hour after the business posted their response. I followed up with yelp and they game me a standard BS. The big question is how in the world they can filtered it out even when business posted their response. Obviously, they were paid by business and they helped.

I got several calls in the last couple of months and they kept promising thousands of calls and clients ready to purchase. The thing that really bothered me is that I asked on several occasions what my worst case scenario would be... and it was three months of advertising at $300/ea. As soon as I signed the agreement (which everything my salesperson said was, "we will work with you, you will get so much business, etc") my yelp calls actually went down... I am on month two and have gotten worst performance than when I was not paying for advertising. The part that really bothers me is that I WAS MISLEAD by the salesperson who said that I could stop after $900 (three months). Of course, now that I've talked to my account rep and her manager, they kindly told me I am screwed for 12 months. I want to warn every business owner out there to NOT engage with this company. They will say anything just to get you to sign and then you're on the hook for 12 months. All I have left to do is hope the thing pays for itself and WARN EVERYBODY.

Yelp.com Unethical fake reviews

Yelp.com deletes legitimate reviews 4 a fee. Yelp is a disservice to consumers because U can't trust the legitimacy of any review. Bad reviews R deleted if a company pays a fee, even if the reviews R honest and real. Apparently Companies that pay a protecting service don't have to worry about getting bad reviews. So whats the point of using Yelp if U can never know whats real or not be able to see what has been blocked?

Obviously if they let U know which review is fake and which one is real it would destroy all their credibility wouldn't it? Read their guidelines. It clearly states they do not remove reviews. Yet, they have removed 100% factual reviews that I have made. If you want I can send some 2 you and you can see if U can find them. Then explain why it is that a Company that claims not to remove reviews does exactly that.

Yelp.com Privacy issue

As an elite member of yelp from April 2011 to March 2012, the website encouraged me to post my real first name and real photos.
When I was being harassed by a gang of yelpers and wrote to yelps headquarters, I was sent a no reply email, that the yelp community polices itself.
Later yelp closed my account because obviously I complained too much about the people that were harassing me.
I never violated yelps terms of service, and yet, yelp sent me a letter claiming that I had 2 accounts and that was a TOS violation and they were closing my account with 200 reviews.
Marvin and Felix, obviously made up names of yelp headquarters employees, never really checked into the validity of this and simply push buttons with no due diligence to what is really taking place on this website.
A month later my photos and name were place on a tmblr page in a very negative way.
See below proof of harassment.
The member has been flagged more than any member I have seen. Yet her account is not closed.
I have never even had a facebook page, for the reason that I do not want my full legal name and photos on the internet
This can impact my career and I am not sure where my photos, and name, which were obviously stolen from yelp, will end up next.
Yelp does not consider this, nor take responsibility.
Felix and Marvin from HQ, are the most incompetent employees.

Yelp.com - Rude salespeople

Don't trust Yelp. I was considering purchasing advertising on Yelp to help my business. I spent 54 minutes on the phone with a sales representative. Yelp.com Allowing false review to remain

There was a false review that a wacko person made against my business since June 2010, I have sent complaints to yelp to remove this review since this is absolutely false! I don't know who this person is making this bad review against me, but yelp replied and inform me that they were not going to remove this review because they had an intelligent computer system that would decide which reviews would stay and which one would be eliminated. I am confused and angry because I am helpless to defend my small business against this computer scam artists. By the way, This person that made the bad review and used yelp against me asked me for $4000.00 and he would remove this negative review against my business. I am suspecting yelp is aware of this and something really nasty behind all this! Be care full of yelp!

I am the one who left the neg review on Yelp and you deserve every bit of bad karma that you get. You are dishonest and a liar. I never asked for $ to remove the review seeing as I will never remove the review because it is all true! I hope to God that this negative information about your scam of a so called business had put you out of business, you should have no place in any animals lives because you just do not care for them only for the $.

Rene Austacio Lopez is the most dishonest 'backyard breeder' of German Shepherds! He not only misrepresented himself to me --- but also, numerous other GSD buyers. He has been so dishonest that the County of Riverside Animal Control finally put him out of business! The only thing that Rene Lopez is interested in is money. He doesn't care for the welfare of his puppies and dogs he sells. I am glad that some people came forward and saved these dogs from their destiny of hell with this man. PLEASE stay away from this swindler...now I only pray he is never allowed to have dogs again. Mr. Lopez treats his dogs worse than puppy mills!

Yelp.com Failure to review fake reviews - manipulation of responses to hide their liability.

Hi Lucy,

I see that Yelp has moved my open letter to Yelp, and the FAKE "reviews" to the filtered page.

You seem to be doing an awful lot of juggling things around for a "filtering" algorithm that is supposed to work "automatically"

You first moved two of the FAKE "reviews" to the filtered page after my first letter to you, and one 5 star legitimate review, now you have moved all the FAKE "reviews" to the filtered page.

Is it that your moral and ethical turpitude causes you to think that by making the FAKE "reviews" more difficult to access you have fulfilled your responsibility to keep peoples reputations from being maligned? Or is it simply your bullheaded "we are never wrong" attitude?

Or are you simply too arrogant to admit that you are wrong?

Perhaps you would gain more respect as a reputable and reliable site for business reviews if you simply stood up and said: "We are sorry, we made a mistake, we apologize to you for the harm that may have been done to your businesses' reputation by our failure to act on irrefutable proof, and will seek to find ways to prevent this from happening in the future to you and other Yelp users".

Or, maybe take a lesson from the Japanese, and do the honorable thing. Seppuku. Oh but wait, that is for warriors, Samurai, Men of Honor. Well, just a thought, Never mind.

Is there some reason you would not want the public to see that Yelp still leaves up absolutely FAKE, libelous "reviews" even after you have been provided with irrefutable proof that these "reviews" are FAKE"?

You have been put on notice and provided with proof, and still you allow the libel to remain on my review page.

You are now legally culpable. You cannot say that you were not notified, and were not provided with proof.

I will ask you again. Yelp, please remove the libelous FAKE"reviews" from my page.

Yours truly,

Jim Lamm

I am so sick and tired of this site leaving only bad comments about a company when I know for a fact that the company has done an exceptional job on the projects that they have done and furthermore this company is providing a lot of extra jobs for people that would otherwise be out of work.
Something has to be done about this site being negative about good reputable companies!
They constantly post old negative reviews and continue to do so unless you "sponsor" them what do they want? is it money?
That would be corporate black mail!
I work for a diamond certified company and that is a very good description of the type of business that we are!
please put an end to this sort of site!

I wrote two reviews. The first was about 6 months ago for a homeopath in San Francisco who helped me immensely, and about 4 months ago for a potter from Grass Valley whose ceramic pieces I own. I wrote two 5 star reviews, and they were "filtered". Why? They have a short video that explains why they filter, but it doesn't apply to me. Don't use YELP for opinions, because their own software doesn't work.

Yelp does not post reviews according to most current to older as they should. They will post reviews from 3 years ago as the newest and put a new review to the back. This is unfair to the businesses that rely on customer opinion. The staff at Yelp does not return calls, there is no customer service department, no help is available for the receiver of the reviews. We have been put at the mercy of a social network that discriminates by lying to the public who are looking for current reviews, who want to know the current opinion of other customers and want the reassurance that they will be receiving the highest service. Yelp deceives the public.

I posted 6 reviews on Yelp, and all but one were suppressed. I put a lot of effort into those reviews, which reflected actual experience. Most of the reviews were very positive. Only one was a one star. I have decided not to bother with submitting any additional reviews, because Yelp is using my hard-earned effort to enrich themselves. I understand that they are planning an IPO in order to cash in on what amounts to the efforts of many uncompensated reviewers. GIven their so-called filtering system, I can never be confident that the reviews that do pass through reflect an honest assessment of the business. This makes Yelp an unreliable rating tool.

They claim to have an algorithm that tests for certain strings of words, or something along those lines, and if found filters them. I think all it looks for is excess punctuation. I looked through tons of filtered reviews and the common factor I saw was multiple exclamation points, all caps, etc.

Hi jim,

Thank you for contacting yelp.

We've looked at the reviews by sean t, lindsey l and monika k, and since they appear to reflect the personal experience and opinions of the respective reviewers, we are leaving them intact. unfortunately, we are not in a position to verify that these reviewers have a conflict of interest with your business.

In cases where our team does not have enough grounds to take action on a review, we look to the business owner to contact the reviewer directly, and I see you have already taken this step. it is our sincerest hope that you will be able to resolve any issues or misunderstandings with these reviewers amicably.

Hi lucy,

So, your solution is for me to contact the individuals who put up the fake "reviews", individuals that I have never met, have never done any work for, individuals who have libeled me, and posted a vicious slanderous fake posts, and work it out amicably with them? what is it that I am supposed to resolve with them again?

1.) "their"staff", who is always hard to reach, often blames each other".

2.) "precision paint and tile is unreliable, does incomplete work, has un-experienced and"clueless staff"

We have no"staff"lucy, precision paint & tile is a sole proprietorship. I am the staff. I am the person who answers the phone, I am the person who responds to the email. no one else.

3.)" from our experience, and from similar accounts of our neighbors, I strongly recommend against using precision paint and tile."

A"review"is supposed to a recounting of the reviewers personal experience, isn't it? you are allowing hearsay from fictitious"neighbors"as part of a review?

4.) the" reviewer"sean t is from"montpelier, la"'.

Montpeiler louisiana is a bit out of my service area, by about 1, 000 miles.

5.)"I hired precision paint and tile to repaint my 3 bedroom condo in manhattan... first of all he wasn't insured and I had a hard time "sneaking" him into the building."

Yes, of course, any reputable client would"sneak"a contractor into their building and hide the work from both the condo board and the buildings management company, and, he owns a"3 bedroom condo in manhattan"and needs to"get his security deposit back"?

Uh, I don't think so. condos don't have"security deposits", rentals do.

I carry $2, 000, 000 general liability, and workman's comp, and have had a continuous policy for over 11 years. you have time to write your response, but not the time to call me or email me to verify this information? in the three minutes it took you to write your email, you could simply have called, asked a few questions and verifed information.

My insurance agent: please call them.

This alone is more than sufficient reason to remove these"reviews". it proves beyond any doubt that this"review"is fake. you cannot say that you cannot verify this. call my agent, then remove the"review"please. then please write a public apology for allowing an honest business to be libeled viciously on your site.

From you:

:"we are leaving them intact. unfortunately we are not in a position to verify that these reviewers have a conflict of interest with your business"

I see, if you are going to err, err on the side of the fake"reviewer"who trashes and libels an honest business person's reputation. do you really think this just to honest businesses?

These same"reviews"were on yahoo local, citysearch, and other sites. I contacted them and the"reviews"were all taken down in less than 5 minutes,.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to yahoo! local, and citysearch for their outstanding customer service, and taking immediate action to right a clear injustice and mitigate the harm already done.

I would like to thank yelp for.. umm.. umm.. alrighty then.

To my clients over the years, thank you for your continuing support and repeat business.

__________________________________________________ _________

Lucy,
It is obvious to anyone that has even a very small brain that these "reviews" are fakes. Let me point out some obvious lies and comments that cannot possibly be true, and are easily verifiable.

1.) Their "staff", who is always hard to reach, often blames each other.

We have NO "staff" Precision Paint & Tile is a Sole Proprietor ship. I am the only staff. This is easily verifiable, but a businesses reputation is not important to you. You will allow any businesses reputation to be trashed with out making even the slightest effort to verify the authenticity of the "review"

2.) Precision Paint and Tile is unreliable, does incomplete work, has un-experienced and clueless staff.

Again we have no "staff" When someone calls my company, or emails the business, I am the person who answers the phone, I am the person who responds to the email. No one else.

3.) From our experience, and from similar accounts of our neighbors, I strongly recommend against using Precision Paint and Tile.

A "review" is supposed to a recounting of the reviewers personal experience. You even allow hearsay from fictitious "neighbors"

4.) The reviewer is from "Montpelier, LA"'.

Yelp is for local reviews is it not? Montpeiler Louisiana is a bit out of my service area, by about 1, 000 miles.

5.) I hired Precision Paint and Tile to repaint my 3 bedroom condo in Manhattan...first of all he wasn't insured and I had a hard time sneaking him into the building.

Yes, of course, any reputable client would "sneak" a contractor into their building and hide the work from both the condo board and the buildings management company. This is my insurance agent: I carry $2, 000, 000 general liability and workman's compensation, and have had a continuous policy with them for over 6 years. You have time to write me this email, but not the time to pick up the phone or send them an email to verify this information? In addition, this exact same "review" has been posted scores of times on the internet. on craigslist in particular, with only the company name, and individual name being changed. Your failure to even make the slightest effort to vet "reviews" and that you leave libelous "reviews" up, allow bad businesses to be lauded with fake positive reviews, and good businesses to be trashed by competitors is clearly indicative of only one thing. You care ONLY about PROFIT. Content = PROFIT. You could care less about the harm you do. Only profit matters to you.

Robert C Mangi Agency

6.) That guy is a biggest SPAMMER on craigslist! He is a rip off artist. Beware! Avoid at all cost!

This is a "review"? It seems to be missing any information about a job that I did for her?

From you:

:"We are leaving them intact. Unfortunately we are not in a position to verify that these reviewers have a conflict of interest with your business"

I see, if you are going to err, err on the side of the fake "reviewer" who trashes and libels an honest business person's reputation. That seems the intelligent and thoughtful thing to do to me.

You and your company, are completely lacking in even the slightest morality or ethics.
You allow businesses to be trashed, and send them a letter telling them basically that you could care less that an honest ethical business is being trashed and libeled on you site.

These same "reviews" were posted on Yahoo Local, Citysearch, and other sites. I contacted them and ALL OF THEM had the "reviews" taken down in less than 15 minutes. But of course, not Yelp.
You company, and the mindset of it employees is despicable.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Yahoo! Local, and Citysearch for their outstanding customer service.

To my scores of clients over the years, thank you for your continuing support and repeat business, To new clients reading this, these "reviews" are absolutely FAKE. Yelp is infamous for this kind of thing. Please search "complaints against Yelp and you will find literally THOUSANDS of complaints regarding this same issue.

Yelp.com Jacket never got cleaned but they want to charge me

On Monday, November 28th, I went to “Pentagon Row Cleaners - 1301 South Joyce St. D26, Arlington VA, 22202” to clean my dad’s sport jacket. It had many oily stains and I washed it but stains didn’t come out. So I went to the dry cleaning – I go there since 2006. Most of the times they are doing ok job, not perfect but good enough. Sometimes, there are some stains still there but you can see that they did try to clean and it is fine with me. The tall women who works there told me that all stains might not come out but they will do their best. She asked me for two days, so they can clean it better. They ask for two days to clean very often and I always tell them: “No rush, just please clean it well”. Today, November 30th, I came to pick my father’s jacket, thinking that it will look much better. My father loves this jacket. When I looked at this jacket, I saw very clear that nothing was done – NOTHING! This tall lady ( later I asked her name and she refused to give it to me) told me they cleaned it twice, did their best, stains didn’t come out and they will charge me $8.00 for trying. I can see that they didn’t try, because it is even wrinkled the way it was when I washed it, every little stain is there, absolutely nothing been done to this jacket! When they try to clean but can’t remove everything, you can see that. If some of the stains still there but you can see that they tried, and jacket looks pressed, I would’ve said: “Oh, well at least it looks a little better”. In this case they just didn’t do the work and want to charge me $ 8.00 for keeping the jacket for 2 days in their dry cleaner. I didn’t pay, left very emotional and my blood pressure went up just before work! Later this women called the manger/owner, his name is Steve Kim, and he told me that they cleaned it 3 times. Which one is this? 2 times or 3 times? He didn’t want to clean it again and that’s what I asked him to do. Please help me to resolve this and make them to try to clean this jacket or not charge me since they didn’t do any work!

Yelp.com - Yelp is not good for small business

I am an owner of recently open Thai restaurant. Below is solely my personal experience with Yelp that I would like to share. 1. Biggest mistake I made was talking to Yelp. Yelp.com Don't believe anything on yelp

Yelp is hot right now, I hope they crash and burn. Yes my account just got canceled, and I have just spent several hours checking out others experience on different sites. Go ahead, if your a business use them while they last. If your looking for a place to go, filtered reviews which lead to deleted reviews are more of the truth. Yelp will probably change this soon. Don't believe anything on yelp. Its a shakedown operation for businesses where positive reviews are the carrot and negative reviews the stick. For us, the curious public, its just a road they walk.

Who is this idiot Libbybastard? I have to agree, we have over twenty reviews on yelp yet only two show up. We have all positive reviews so shows positive, but the one that where filtered make no sense as to why they were filtered. If someone reviews a number of businesses on yelp why on earth would their reviews show up on some yet not others. A simple study of the filtered reviews for any business reveals that something VERY bogus is going on at Yelp. As far as I am concerned it is a completely useless and fraudulent website.

ALL as in how many? That means nothing to me. Was it 100? Did you have like 2? Yelp is used by Apple for it's search services. If you think Apple would align with a huge scam company, you're nuts. For all we know, you and your family put all the positive reviews up and Yelp's filters caught you.

The very ugly truth about Yelp is that until you pay to advertise with them, all your positive reviews will be filtered. A few months ago we received a phone call from an employee at Yelp asking us to advertise with them. We declined their offer, it was going to cost us somewhere around $350 a month. The very next day ALL of out positive reviews were filtered and all of a sudden there were two one star, very negative reviews posted. Ther are scam artists and the site is completely fake, created to bully business owners into paying them for positive reviews. They did the very same thing to my friend who ownes a Pilates studio in Miami.

This is true. When you search for my business a paying competitor comes up with 5 stars in bigger type than my listing. They are positioned right over my listing. I have 7 5-star reviews, every one of them filtered.

I totally agree, since they are doing advertising you can not trust them at all... They filter the revues if your are not paying for advertising, they will only keep your bad revues in order to bring more business for those other businesses around yours that advertise with them...DO NOT TRUST Yelp reviews they are only base on money the business owners are willing to spend in advertising!

Yelp.com Yelp algorithm solution

Announcement:

We have recently implemented a system to outsmart yelp from hiding our filtered reviews:

Step 1- first of all, if you're advertising with yelp, stop doing so and shift that money to optimize your own web site instead

Step 2- have a graphic designer make a yelp badge that is placed on your web site. It should say "we have... Filtered and unfiltered reviews on yelp".

Step 3- when a visitor clicks on the badge, it will go to another page on your own web site (Instead of going to yelp's. (Why help them get traffic and rank higher anyways)?

Step 4- on this page have your graphic designer get a screen capture (Picture) of all your filtered and unfiltered reviews and have them pasted together onto one page.

Now, all your reviews (Filtered or not) will be visible to all your web site visitors.

5- put a note on the top that says, "for your convenience we have placed all our filtered and unfiltered reviews on one page to see. If you'd like to go to our live yelp page, click here..."

Make the whole page clickable to your live yelp page  so no-one will say you're trying hide something or to be dishonest

Advantages of doing this:

1- your visitors will stay on your web site instead of being directed to yelp's

2- your visitor can't click on your competitors

3- no more being a slave to yelp's algorithm

4- yelp would not benefit from getting traffic from you and higher rankings on google

5- this whole process cost us less than $150 to implement

Just be sure to shift that $300 per month on yelp advertising and put it into keywords that people will search for.

Please pass this along to everyone you know

I wrote a 1 star review of Drain Doctor Santa Clara, an outfit that has other 1 star reviews posted, and which was issued a two count citation by the cal state contractors license board in my case.
