after an extensive search online for various toll free number service providers, I chose to go with 800.com simply because they seemed to have all the basic features without monthly fees. After about a week of no activity, I called my own toll-free number to test. Turned out that the account was not active. They gave me various excuses about the new system and change to new carrier, etc. This is the same excuse they gave me when I originally setup the account a week ago. I had tested the number then and it worked. So now I don't know what the problem is. The bigger issue is that they don't either. They can't tell me what exactly the problem is or when it will be resolved. They think about a week but not sure... What a bunch of incompetent people!

Our company was interested in a vanity number that they had. We were informed that it couldn't be ported out but only leased and a subscription was needed in order to lease it. The subscription is quoted at $260 & the lease $970. This includes no services. It's absolutely absurd.

We had an 800 # with 800.com for a couple of months then found a much cheaper option with phone.com.
Discontinued our 800.com phone number YET continue to get $27.14 monthly bills in spite of having ZERO numbers on record with them... they claim I needed to call to close my account!
I've never had ANY business charge me just to have an active login/account.
These people are a ripoff!

Back in 2016, I had 2 800#s with another company which I wasn't really using but paying approx $3.60 for each monthly (plus 10 cents a minute) Around mid-2016, I was getting ghosting calls on one of them. Calls would come in - no one would be on the other end or I would get a bunch of static or background music and I would be charged for the calls. I would return the call with the number that showed up on my phone and each and every time, the caller would say they never never called. So there was definitely something weird going on and they (the phone company) tracked it to some sort of shipping office not far from where I live but claimed there was nothing that they could do about it. They would give me credit each month but I had to call in for it and it was an arduous process plus the calls were truly annoying. So I looked for a place to transfer the 800# to. I found 800.com and was delighted. I spoke to an accommodating friendly rep who helped me set up my account. The plans were great - in fact perfect for me since I wasn't using the 800# much at all. They had an Economy Pay as You Go Plan. I paid an initial $20.00 ($10 was a fee for set up and the other $10 was put on as a credit on my line) and 5.9 cents a minute. So basically, I was getting rid of that monthly charge and the minutes were cheaper. I got a few phone calls over the next few months (never even went past the $10 credit on the account). Since it was working out great, by July I brought over my other 800# (which was not used at all), so basically saving myself the monthly fee of $3.60 a month. The set up fee went up to $20.00 plus the $10.00 initial credit plus an extra tax (so $32 altogether) but also figured within 10 months it paid for itself and the other line which I had brought over was working out so well.

Then all of the sudden at the end of March of 2018, I received an email telling me that my credit card was declined (I had changed my credit card prior to that time). I knew I shouldn't have reached the $10 credit limit, so I immediately called only to find out that it had new ownership and the plans had completely changed. They transferred my numbers over to a $23.00 monthly charge which was ridiculous because that defeated the reason why I transferred the number in the first place (which was $3.60 a month at my old company). I explained the situation and they agreed to give me a 3 month credit. I figured at the end of 3 months if I didn't find another use for the 800#, I would just drop them. July 1st I got another notification that my credit card was declined. I called to cancel the 800#s. No one answered the phone. I just got a voicemail that told me to go to the website and speak with Chat or email them. I went to the website, filled in the form for Chat and was told no one was available on Chat. It was a weekend so I figured I would email them and requested that they cancel the #s.

I received a reply to my email that my 800# is valuable and that they transferred me over to a $5.00 a month plan. At this point, I decided I wasn't using the 800#s anymore, I wrote them back and said they were not valuable to me and again requested that they cancel the numbers. They replied back to me and said "You have two accounts both with "800" Numbers, I can merg them into one account" I called them back, this time on a weekday during business hours but got the same message to contact Chat or email them.

I wrote them back again and said,

Again, I am not getting the phone calls in this way to justify keeping them. They are not valuable to me. I don't want either number - cancel them and cancel my account. Thank you.

From here they never responded and they have not cancelled my account.

I only received a survey to which I answered accordingly.

So apparently, they just won't cancel your account and they will not give you any option to do so. They won't be able to charge my card since I don't have the one that they have on file but in the meantime, they apparently will just let the charges accrue. (plus they charged me back in May - so they didn't even honor the 3 month credit). I didn't get any invoice so naturally I didn't know and the card was declined then too. I won't pay them anyway since I officially asked them to cancel my account but it just seems they are a very unscrupulous company.

After being with 800.com for a year- I was pleased with their service. We did experience a few technical snags every once in a while. This last snag turned out to be a nightmare. My voicemail stopped working in a middle of a marketing campaign. All customers on hold heard a message "this account is not active". The worst was that their system is suppose to keep a log of calls missed- and this feature was down. It has been 4 days- and the number is still not operating.

I have gone with another provider- and 800.com still does not release my number to them.
Have no choice but to report them to the authorities.
