World Book Direct marketing [protected]) sends collection notices through Eastern Collection Corp even if we do not make a purchase. Be careful with this company. When I contacted the collection agency through email, they did not respond.

The collection agency is:

Eastern collection Corp
1626 Locust Ave
bohemia Ny 11716
[protected](phone)

Thanks,
Ravi

We have ordered the World Book Yearbook to compliment our set of encyclopedia for years. Today we received an invoice "An Important Reminder" that we are three months overdue on an invoice for $13.99 for a 2016 calendar. We never ordered such or received it either. I called their number--
[protected], which was answered very unprofessionally. After submitting our account number, the guy said it had been a "Promotional Offer" which had been marketed incorrectly. I countered that this was not an offer, but a dunning notice, and I wanted to speak to someone in Accts. Receivable about how they could have confused "promotion" with "past due". He said, "Well, you have a zero balance with us, so I don't know what else I can do for you." This is apparently a phishing trip, trying to get small checks with personal info from regular customers who have bought from the company for decades! What a shame that a once-reputable American staple like World Book has succumbed to what looks like cyber scams and mail fraud.

World Book Direct Marketing sends a bogus collection letter through Eastern Collection Corp. It is my understanding that World Book is based in Chicago, but they want the bill to be sent to
this mailing address...PO BOX 856270, Louisville, Kentucky [protected]. The customer service phone number is listed as [protected]. We recieved a bill for over $3, 000 dollars! Beware of this scam! The Eastern Collection address listed is 1626 locust Ave, Bohemia, NY 11716
Thanks
Ruth

I too have had a problem with this company back in April 2012 I paid my bill online. The kept saying they never received it. I told them to check their records because I know I paid and that it was their problem since they obviously couldn't keep track of their records. They kept sending me harassing notes, I sent them a copy of my bank statement showing I had paid. That wasn't good enough finally I had my bank send me the cashed electronic check which in turn I sent to them. Months later (Nov/12) I get a note from a collection agency on their behalf, threatening me. I call World Book Direct Market and after looking at their records they go opps we see where we received the correct info about your payment, it must of gotten lost in the mail or something? months later but its in their computer? any how the guy said he would let the collection agency know, I am still crossing my fingers that I don't get another letter from a collection agency about them. Besides that the whole time they kept sending me other books even after I returned them and requested several times I want nothing to do with their company STOP sending me books, I am hoping they get the message this time I am done with their crappy company, It wasn't worth the money spent on their system, I wish I had never heard of their company.

I have been receiving unsolicited merchandise and bills from this company. I called [protected] and the representative told me on the phone not to worry about it, that they would remove me from their list and stop sending books and bills. I have continued to receive both. They don't have a web site only a phone number and a PO box mailing addresses. They want me to take trouble of returning a book I never ordered before they will remove me from their mailing list. It's as if this company were designed specifically to bully people into paying for unsolicited materials. BEWARE!

The addresses on the bills are listed as:

World Book Direct Marketing
A Scott Fetzer Company
P.O. Box 10274
Des Moines, IA [protected]

World Book Direct Marketing
P.O. Box 856470
Louisville, KY [protected]

I have recently been receiving Unsolicited Merchandise from this company and have then been billed for the same. I have sent back the most recent item, and I am filing a compalint with the Postal Inspection Service.

I agree. I got a collection notice from the same company five months after I had paid my bill. Initially I wondered if I had paid it. I called World Book Direct and they told me that I had paid the bill and to send the collection notice back with their toll free number on it if the collection agency had any questions.
