Green Dot fake checks!

When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. This is even more proof of that saying. About 1 month & 1 week ago my cousin called me all excited about getting a check for $950 from GDE. She cashed her check, no problem, oddly enough she even checked with her Bank, which she was told it's a REAL check. My Fiance and I, who have a baby on the way, figured hey, let's try it! So we filled out the form, too. Yesterday he got his check for the amount of $2, 007.93. We figured hey, cool, we can catch up on some bills and put the rest to our wedding! That is until our Bank told us that the check is not only fake, BUT, US Bank (Which, if you've gotten checks from the "company" you know it's drawn on US bank!) and MoneyGram (Also listed on the check) no longer do business together. AND that the check number was cashed in 2003 BUT for a much smaller amount. Needless to say, we were very upset. I have never read any complaints about GreenDotMail.Com, guess I should have been searching for GDE all along. But, the bank also informed us that if we attempt to cash it that he would go to jail for a bad check, which we both find odd cause it's not really his fault, but, it's FL law, I suppose. We turned everything over to the police, since, thats what we asked to do. HOPEFULLY something gets figured out here. We'll see. But, I guess if you get a check less than 1, 000 it will be cashed? By WalMart or your bank! If it's over 1, 000, then forget even trying, you'll go to jail and the "company" GDE will just use your Social for whatever they'd like!

Green Dot fake check

On 04/24/09 I received a fake check for 2017.48. My bank verified it was a fake and went on the website and start pulling up all the complaints on this business. They said in the letter that it was a cash grant and to send green dot back 200.10 on a greendot card and fax it to them. I have reported it to the credit agencies but it would really be lovely if the authorities would catch up with these dishonest people. (Man can't see it all but GOD does and he knows you and you will be punished and most of the time your families too!)

I got one of these and tried calling US bank to see if the check was real. They said they would not verifie the check.I also called money gram who was used for the transaction they would not verifie anything, even when I had my bank call direct the would not help. These banks and other companies are helping theses scams go through because they make mony as well when you get charged for the bounced check.I think people should stop doing bussines with these companies and banks that protected theses scamers. They are not giving out any info that could be a risk to someone by telling you if a check with there name on it is fake.

Green Dot non manageable accounting

This stupid greendot crap is unbelievable. After purchasing a reloadable greendot visa and faxing all my personal info I never received my card. Then purchased a moneypak and went to load it an error pops up and tells me I will be getting a refund. Called the 1 800 number and they were extremely rude! I better get my refund within the 7-10 business days as they promised or I will make sure they lose a lot of customers. Warning! Do not purchase a greendot card! They will just screw up your money and your account not to mention half the merchants dont accept them! Thanks for reading my complaint.

Sincerely
Pissed off in boise idaho

I have had my greendot visa three years now and have never had a problem with it. I have never been refused by a merchant except to rent a car but that was because the rental car company did not except which they explained but I pay for hotels and gas and other merchants never a problem. I found that usually the way you approach people is the way they return attitude if you do have a problem and also read the terms of the agreement. Some times its the person loading the car or company. I always use Walmart .

If you want a live person, press whatever number it is to "report card stolen". That's info they take in person, not by mail or computer.

Never had a problem getting hold of a live person in this manner.

Update.
I just got my refund check in the amount promised, $109.95. I logged in to check the card I already have. The amount of fees incurred is $7.21. So I don't think they would have declined to let me activate another card because I had a huge fee outstanding.

The supervisor told me on the phone last time that my SS# did not pass validation. So I'm inclined to believe they do some sort of secret credit check.
What I'm going to do now is reload the card I have and hoping it takes so I can place my online orders I wanted to do last week. What A pain in the dick. I could have had my orders delivered and in use by now.

Idaho, I've had Greendot visa AND mastercards for three years now and have NEVER had a merchant decline to take them!

Magicman, I have no idea why they would be claiming you have too many cards issued to you if you only have the one mastercard but if you never cancelled the mastercard and just stopped using it, you probably have accrued fees. It states is the TOS that there will be a $4.95 per month service fee. If you owe fees, that's probably where the problem lies.

As to Greendot using a 3rd party verifier, yeah they do. So do banks, anyone issueing credit of any kind (credit card, store shopping card, even your check-cashing card at the local grocery store) as well as many utilities companies.

Just makes your day knowing that, doesn't it?

Green Dot can't access money/use card/get a live cust. service rep

I just purchased a Walmart MoneyCard/Visa Prepaid Card last month as a gift, not realizing that the activation code is on the receipt. After reading the instructions on the outside of the prepaid card's packaging, I was under the impression that the card was ready to be used. However, when it was time to use the card for purchases, detailed activation instructions were found on the *inside* of the packaging, where you find that you need your receipt, which lists the activation code. If the instructions were on the outside, so many people wouldn't be in this run-around situation. ..or maybe that is that the point--letting people put money on a card that they'll never be able to use...eventually, the monthly finance charges will go to the company, so they'll have your money anyway.

The company is rather unreachable, even though they provide two customer service phone numbers and a mailing address. Live people do not man the customer service lines, nor is there a section to contact the customer service department on their site. If you do not have an activation code, the automated phone service is a bust (you can't get past the first step without the code). Pressing zero does not connect you to a live representative. Although Walmart can assist you in reprinting your receipt (with activation code), you need to provide the exact date of purchase, or the register number, or cashier, etc.

When your money is concerned, keeping customers at this distance is unacceptable.

This has got to be the most worthless thing purchased! You really can not do anything with this card. What it is I believe is extortion!. I bought a gift for my boyfriend, easnt correct scope for gun. Took back ...wouldn't give cash back with receipt mind you. They said they put back on my card. This was 141.00. Still not on my card! It will take 10 days! Why u automatically took it when I purchased you should automatically put back. Why should I have to wait for a multibillion dollar corporation to return my money?

I bought one of these cards to pay for my school books. I registered it, and recieved my permanent card in the mail. When I tried to go online to check my balance and add more it wouldnt grant me access. Thank God I figured that out, I was going to have my social security direct deposited to the account! This card is a scam! there is no way of access it and there is no way of talking to a person about it! My card is now worthless, I am losing the money that I put on it, and there is no way to get it back! Another way that Walmart likes to screw with people because it can! And I thought that monopolies were illegal! I am now possibly going to have to drop out of school after recieving a grant to go, because I cant cover my books! I will never shop at Wal Mart again! That was the straw that broke the camels back!. We bought a set of dishes there once and they were all broke. The store took them back without a problem and gave the money back, but then put the broken set of dishes back on the shelf to sell again!

###ing thing sucks, as Bill O Reilly would say. OK for the temp card to make online purchases, but they require a social security number to send you the real, re-loadable card, how ###ing stupid, who would trust a retailer that hires bums and vends cheap Chinese products with their SS number? Not me. There are times when certain businesses deserve a fat, Size 14 steel-toed hiking boot up their ###. A word of warning, often i have had them charge my "monthly" maintenance fee more than 3 times over 10 days. Epic scam, I hope the lawsuit yall have going brings them to their knees.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER ! I tried to pay my storage fee on the storage co. website this morning .It told me the first time it did not go through. So I waited a while and went back to the storage's website and tried it a second time and it went through and gave me a confirnmation number. I check my balance on my Wal-mart money card and it told me that the transaction went through twice. I called customer service and the rep, Jackie, told me that it would take ten days to credit one of the transactions back to my card. I ended up being on the phone with the rep 30 min with her telling me that it will take 10 days to credit back to my card 3 more times. In this 30 min she put me on mute several times. I said " hello" several times and tot no response. ( I guess she thought I was going to hang up. But I have worked in customer service for over 30 years and I was ready to play her game.) The rep also put me on the music hold twice without asking me to hold. After the first thirty min with no progress I requested her supervisor. I had to wait another 30 min on hold for the supervisor, again with no proper updates from the rep. I had to ask her what we were waiting for. When the supervisor Cory finally came on the line she came me the same lines the rep did until I drilled her for more specific info. Then I was finally told that I should keep track with the storage company to when they collect the funds from my card to call them back and advise them, then it would take 2 bus days to credit back to my card. Then when I asked to be transferred to the customer service survey that they tell you in the beginning while being trasferred to cust. serv. rep, that she could not transfer to it. So I am posting this . Worst customer service ever . I will not being loading anymore money on this card !

Green Dot unauthorized billing

First, I know this is really long. OK, it's a novel, but my ordeal with this company has been ongoing for over a month now with no resolution.

On the night of March 6th 2009 my Green Dot Visa Debit card was stolen from my home. It was in my wallet, in a closed desk drawer in my Mother's bedroom in MY HOME at the time. The person who took it did not have direct access to my card but she was someone that I knew. I followed all of the rules on the following day when I realized my card had been taken. I contacted Green Dot first and had them cancel and flag the card as stolen. After the card was closed I wrote everything down and wrote out a statement for the Police as well as Green Dot.

The next morning I immediately contacted the police who came to my home and took my statement, gave me a police report number and then amazingly found and arrested one of the suspects and were able to find most of the merchandise that was purchased with my card. After all of this I wrote and mailed my statement for Green Dot. In the letter I explained exactly what had happened ending with the transactions and a total amount of money that was in dispute.

The now suspects (we found out the thief went and picked up two of her friends the day she went shopping with my card) had managed to spend well over $2, 200 before I was able to stop the card. Knowing I had to give them at least ten days legally for research I waited impatiently for nearly two weeks before I called Green Dot Customer Service. When I finally did call it had been 11 agonizing days and was told they had tried calling me (I never received ONE phone call from them) and the rep on the line said she could not tell me what the out come was because their Loss Management department had already left for the day. She went on to say that since they didn't reach me by phone they had mailed their response to me and I needed to wait for the mail to arrive and wouldn't give me any further information nor would they get a manager for me to speak with.

Angry I hung up the phone since this was the first time I had actually experienced any problems with them. I figured I was just upset and was trying to calm myself down.

The next day I did in fact receive their response to my transaction dispute. They said that they were rejecting my claim on the basis that my card was not in my possession. They went on to say that they read my statement as 'I had given my Mother authorization to use my card and told her she could use it.' Which totally was a warped rendition of my statement. At no time did I give anyone Authorization to use my card. I immediately called them only to be told the Loss Management team was gone, once again, and no matter what I had to send them any response in writing. They then went on to say I needed to call back the following day.

Do these people ever work was the first thought that went through my head at this time.

I hung up the phone and wrote a response letter to them demanding my money be returned to me and went in to further detail as to what had happened. Nearly two more weeks went by and I finally received a phone call from someone at Green Dot. However, this person was only calling me to respond to my BBB complaint. Not my response letter. She went on, in an extremely rude tone, to explain that it was not their responsibility and they would be denying my claim once again. Only this time they were changing their reason for denial. She said that their reason this time was simply because the card was not in my possession. Well this infuriated me and I went off on her. I yelled so loud I scared neighbors. I began questioning the denial reason. Asking her how they expect someone to keep a card in their possession if they are asleep and she couldn't explain herself. She kept repeating the same thing over and over again. Throughout this entire conversation I am throwing questions at her and one after another she continues to answer with 'because the card was not in your possession Green Dot...blah blah blah.' Never giving me a real/valid reason for denial. I finally hang up and nearly have an anxiety attack and pass out...literally. Wake up four hours later and call my attorney!

This all took place on Thursday April 2nd, 2009.

I am so upset Friday through Monday that I can't eat, sleep or work. I'm extremely worried about losing everything at this point. By this time it had been over a month and I was delinquent in paying my rent now two months, the electric and water was due not to mention all other bills and everything was about to be shut off. I had just received my next paycheck to the new card they sent me and opened and had just been able to pay my rent and the bills by the end of the day on Monday when I logged in to my account and BOOM! they had credited my account. I was so excited! Maybe they had received the OK to credit my account and they didn't want to call but noticed I had missed the call this time. So as of Tuesday I had my money and everything was good. I was changing companies though.

All of the happiness was stripped away by 8 p.m. however when I went to the ATM and my card was declined. I immediately called Green Dot and this time something different happened. The recording told me I had dialed the wrong number. It said the correct number was located on the back of my card...the number I had called. It then disconnected the call without further explanation. I immediately called back and this time used my old basic Gold Visa Debit card that I have with them and what'd you know...it worked. Well when I got a rep on the phone I gave them my Premier account number and questioned this phone issue and they brushed it aside and changed the subject and then went on to say I needed to speak with Loss Management but said, of course, they weren't in at that moment. I demanded a supervisor and was placed on hold multiple times for over an hour. Then some guy answered the phone saying he was with Loss Management but he couldn't help me. He said he had 'emailed' the person working my account and she would call me.

To this day I still have received no phone calls. I hung up and have called them numerous time over the past three days questioning them and no one can tell me why my account was closed. The most I've been told came from the Dispute Resolution person who gave my money back to me. She was really the only nice person and most informative. She said she had no clue why they were doing this to me. She said no notes were posted but she could see the call to close my account came from their legal department. Stating I had caused them a loss due to the fraud claim and they demanded that the Loss Management department close my account. She went on to say that what was strange was they closed my account for no reason and never gave instructions regarding my balance and because of this she couldn't do anything. She said that the Loss Management department is over her and they are the only ones who can send my money now.

The Dispute Resolution rep then forwarded me to the Loss Management rep's desk. Of course the person didn't pick up their phone. In fact the phone did what it had always done in the past...it hung up on me.

Since Monday when I spoke with the Dispute Resolution rep both me and others involved attempting to help me have called and spoken to them each time being told someone would call me and nothing else. I even had my attorney call today and after over an hour of being placed on hold we had at least been sent to a live person who said they were with the Loss Management team. However this person, like all of the rest, told us the person we needed to talk to wasn't there. This person did however attempt to say they would not be giving me any of my money. We questioned them and threatened law suite. The rep then went on to say they would be sending me a check but they would not send it for at least 7 to 10 days. We demanded it overnight and they said they had not way of doing this...they are a bank. Yes they can. They then changed their story again and said that a check had already been generated. No check had been generated. The funds still showed up in the account that had the canceled card. They changed their story a third time. This time the guy was trying to say the check that was generated was post dated and had already been sent out and that's why the balance was reflecting in my account still. None of this made sense. We demanded a supervisor and he refused. Saying as always no one was available and someone would be calling us within two hours. It's now been 12 hours (midnight) and still I no calls.

I will get my money back one way or another. These people owe me more than $2, 200. All of this money came from a direct deposit from my employer and they are illegally withholding it. Even if I receive payment I will still be filing suit against them for damages and expenses and it will hurt. They will learn not to mess with anyone ever again!

include me in the lawsuit against them, I am working on my second time to dispute unauthorized charges to my card totaling around $750 and they denied the first time saying they are valid, this time I sent with my dispute letter an intended to be filed court document to take it to small claims court if they refuse again! same with Microsoft, I have had an account with them for years since 2010 which has any and all movies, games, map packs and what not that I paid for and rightfully own now and they go and perma suspend my account and are refusing to either refund me my games, map packs, and movie purchases or transfer them to new account. thinking about taking them to small claims too if greendot denies my dispute as I included the Microsoft charges.

#[protected] After the hurricane in Texas I filed Identity theft to check my back up card ...Green Dot for my extra funds. Any company that I have contacted since the concern has did what they can do to expedite the Texas customers. I explained to the these funds depended on me being homeless no one expressed any sympathy or went out of the way to assist me due to the circumstance. I was told I needed to send another form in because it was denied because of information that I filled out wrong. After submitting again they told me to wait another 2 weeks in which I was never called back since the initial time that I filed dispute. I was never questioned by a supervisor or representative by return of call. I had to call them they canceled my card so I was not able to talk to the customer service line without a card number it took me a couple of days to find another number for assistance to again receive customer service. It would be different if I disputed large amounts all the time. That would be a red flag for them to deny it, not only do I have to pay for new card they are telling me I'm denied in getting my funds reversed. Know one was given my pin number that information was filled out incorrectly. I sent it the corrected form with more supportive information and they stated that I will still need to wait 2 weeks. The fault is at customer service assistance because if I was guided correctly or ever called back by someone to discuss I would have fixed the issue along time ago. I don't accept having to wait another 2 weeks when I am homeless and they know the conditions with Texas inclement weather. They give you company Terms and conditions as if I dont work in customer service. I go out my way to resolve issues for mistakes caused by the customer service agents I work with. Not matter the compromise I find away to resolve the customer issue with one call resolution not 2 weeks. I'm able to verify payments and refund within 24 hours, if a customer has a problem with a charge. Even if It takes me an hour to complete and I have to call the customer back I as a agent take responsibility at the end of the day no matter how good a product can be if there is poor customer service it is not worth it

The only way I've ever found to get a live person on the phone at Greendot is to use their "report card stolen" option. Once you've got a live person on the phone, make them deal with whatever problem it is you're having.

Goole's an idiot who obviously knows nothing about laws regarding credit and debit cards to say nothing about laws regarding THEFT. Mark did everything right, straight by the book. Greendot is obviously jerking him around. He was right to get a lawyer involved but personally I would have THREATENED to contact the BBB if a resolution weren't forthcoming and only made the actual contact AFTER getting it as straightened out as I felt I was able.

I've never had to deal with their loss department, which seems like a good thing.

I can see here that "goole" is up to his "goolish" behaviour again here. This person is not on here to help but only to hurt other people with his judgmental remarks. Is there any way we can get this person's comments deleted or removed? He obviously did not join this site to assist others but only to increase their stress levels even more.

Green Dot at home work

I received a card in the mail stating that they were looking for people to hire to work out of their home, and in the process all you have to do is get your supplies, and mail the test assignments out and they will do the rest. They also sent to me a 950.00 check that I would buy my supplies with and keep the rest of the money, but I did this and check with my Bank to make sure that the funds were vertified and they told me yes, but on 4/6 it came back as a chargeback on my account leaving me and my family with no money at all to live on or eat with because the money we had in the bank is gone, and we have no way of contacting them because you get these numbers but noone answeres at all.
Everybody is telling me that I am SOL and My bank account that had my money is gone, and I can't reach the comany, and BBB cannot reach them as well and I've been putting in complaints but where is my money and I want it back. Now I am left up to contact the NEWS and telling them even if it makes a bad name for Green Dot I don't care. If I work hard for my money I deserve to have it and I just gotten scammed because they stated that the check was fraudulent and not real but it had their name on it along with paperwork and the cards that Green dot uses. I have all of the paperwork still along with the form that was to be mailed out to others and they also provide you with a list of other people names and addresses in the US. If anyone has gotten scammed by these people or have any information that can help me and my family out, please give me a call at [protected] anytime or by E-mail at [protected]@att.net
I need some help for my family and I because our Hard earned money is gone no and Bank Of America states that they aren't liable but they posted the check and they were told to make sure that the checks was vertified before putting it into the account.
Please help my children and I, Jana Wilkes

I just got the same letter and check today from the Greendot grant company from Linda Spaulding..I knew it was a money scam, however I almost cashed it, because I did try to apply for a grant a couple of weeks ago on the internet. I am glad I looked at this site. I had a similiar situation to this one last year, a guy from the UK sent me 3money orders and told me to cash them in my bank account and I did. The money orders never went through because they were fake. In order to clear this up with authorities you have to go to the FBI, I went and showed them everything. If it's a check the bank will give you your money back. You have to get a form from the FBI and you will get your money back! Don't believe any big money making scams or deals from the internet, I always get e-mails stating I won the lottery and need to do this and that in order to recieve my big lump sum, if you have to pay them first for anything, it's a scam. Good Luck and I hope this helps some of you.

I also received this check for $975.00 from GreenDot GrantProgram asking for a 4% commission paid via a GreenDot Money Pak card. This letter gives off way too many clues that this is totally fake.
1) If you never applied for a grant then one isn't going to arrive on your doorstep.
2) If you did for whatever reason receive a grant it would come directly from that company or person and no commissions or fees would be due to anyone.
3) You have to give permission for anyone to check your credit history, they did not obtain it from anywhere without your permission.
4) Most all companies provide contact information along with a sign off at the bottom of a letter. This person wants to stay hidden for a reason.
5) Spelling - numerous words are spelled wrong in this letter and many grammar mistakes are made. If this was a legit letter nothing would be spelled wrong.

I know times are tough and to see a check that you just might be able to cash seems nice, but unfortunately it will put you in a worse place than you are currently in. Money doesn't just appear (although that would be nice) we all have to work for it. So just keep your heads up and keep workng hard. God Bless everyone.

How did you get mixed up with a soft ware company. Cornell Interprises
is a soft ware company that in the country of India.
They sell soft ware programs. They must be using the names of Americans on their software to try to get grant money. Won't work.
So they send you a fake check to put in your account and tell you this junk, that they can't take their fees out, so you pay them and get stuck with their fake check. This scam is as old as the banks.

Thank You all. I recieved a check today for $978.50, from GreenDot Grant Program. The name was Linda Spaulding and the company that was funding the grant was Cornell Interprises The deal was this was supposed to be the first installment of a $10, 000 grant and that I had to send them $401 on a greendot money pack to pay their fees because the law prohibits them from taking it straight out of grant money before they send it. I checked on the BBB site and couldn't find anything there no address just two fax #'s in case of tech difficulties with one. I was going to take it to the bank and have them check it but nw it is shredded. Because I recievedd fake Trevelers Checks once in the mail and when the bank told me to contact the cops they gave me the info to contact the Secret Service all I got was a hold onto them and we might get back in contact with you, that was 3 years ago but the funny thing is that guy had alot of balls to actually e-mail me and tell me that if I didn't send him the Travelors check or the money that was supposed to be wired that the FBI was going to show up on my doorstep with a warrent for my arrest (I'm still waiting to see that also). But thank you for stopping me from getting screwed.

Green Dot fraudulent practices

Well, in short I'm not happy with a credit card company that asks for your social security number over the phone, and then informs you electronically that your number is invalid. You cannot get your account started, and when you think you can by (giving the number) the phone call goes nowhere. It seems that many people are writing about this alleged credit card company and the losses are building up financially.

In addition, the account number sent is only 12 digits long when in fact the one the electronic message asks for is 16 digits long. There should be a more direct way of talking to these people, not their electronic message system. I don't know presently whether I can get my refund because I keep getting the runaround. I would not chose this company if I had to do it again. Moreover, it's been more then two weeks since I ordered and my card has not arrived. They want you to put your whole paycheck into their account. Don't do it. It's too risky!

Green Dot my refund is not returned

I had purchased a Green Dot card on March 24, 2009. I had put money on the money pack card from my Federal Income Tax. I put 45 dollars on the card. My prepaided rush card was not part of their prepaid cards so my money would not go on there. I call Green Dot the same day and I am still waiting on my money. They told me I will recieved my money within 7-10 business days. It been 2 weeks, that is just not right. They are bascially getting people money, that why you can not get a refund from the store. I say somebody need to make money off them by getting our pocket money back.

Write the Better Business Bureau in Georgia. Or file a proper complaint with the Ghost Company in California. Someone asked how to reach a real person on this card. when they come on and ask english or spanish do not press anything. When it asks the nature of your account press 1, then press 2, enter card # then enter zip code. listen to automation and press 3. This company will not cooperate with you to return your money in an orderly fashion. They are not an american company tho the main office is out of California. There is no one in California to talk to. I have had several supervisors hang up on me. To file a proper complaint, write Green Dot Visa, PO Box 1187, Monrovia, Ca, 91017.

I bought my card at a walgreens here in humble texas. I put 30.00 on the card and spent 15.00 online. I get an email message a few days later and it says I have a balance of 0.00... After taxes on the website i should have had 9-10 dollars left on the card butI will never deal with these people again...Even after the monthly fee I still should have money on my card, so im just going to deal with the wal-mart visa card. I have never had issues of depleted funds for no reason with them...

They are a bunch of foreign thieves. They're not even American.I have had two cards and both times I've had problems. I'm thinking of reporting them to the Connecticut attorney generals office...he loves to sue big companys that scam people. That's what this is all about. Greendot is nothing but a huge scam. If at all possible, a class action suit should be brought down on them.

Green Dot money not available

Not until after you made your "non-refundable" payment and receive your receipt for reloading their prepaid "greendot refill card" do you learn that you cannot even log in to add the funds for 60 minutes. If you purchase the refill card because you need to pay a bill online such as to get a service turned back on that was overdue, you will add an hour wait to the time it takes to have that service restored.

CVS, Walmart, and others do not have this restriction, only Walgreens.

Green Dot stole my money

On 02/06/09 at Rite Aid on Cherry and Bancroft I went to reload my GreenDot prepaid card not realizing it expired on 01/2009. It took the reload, but when I tried to use it to pay my bill, this is when it came to my attention. When I called Rite Aid, they referred me to GreenDot, where there is not one live person to speak with. Then I received another card in the mail. It was a mastercard, so I was thinking maybe they loaded my balance of 60.00 on that card so I tried using it and it said zero. So I called Rite Aid back to see if they had a live support number and they gave me a number where I reached a live operator and she said they could not transfer the balance of a Visa to a Mastercard so she would have to send me a refund and this was in the middle of Febuary and I still have not received my refund nor can I get in touch with anyone live...So basically they stole my money that I really need for a bill.

Here's a secret. You know how George Bush turned a blind eye to all the price gouging and consumer screwing by the oil companies? Because he was in bed with them?

Barack Obama, banks, same deal.

This outfit is a nightmare. I have never been able to talk to a live person. I went yesterday and bought a reload amount for $250.oo and it accepted it when I activated it, and I payed some bills, but it had been so long since I used it, I have forgotton my PIn # to use at ATM machine. I tried calling and get the voice mail prompts and tells me to go to the website to reset your pin number. Trouble is, it ask for your current pin in order to change it!DAH I wouldnt need to reset it if I had the current one. Oh well at least I can pay bills on it. You would think that this company probably does pretty good business for the less fortunate one like me with credit issues, so I am amazed that they don't kave an operator to take care of their customers. VERY POORLY MANAGEMENT WITH THIS COMPANY. I don't think they will be around too much longer.

Green Dot no live customer support and fees to talk to a machine.

I was told that activating a second would cost $19.00 and if I contact
the web site within 24 hours I would receive $10.00 rebate for adding the second card. I contacted the website as told but was not able to get the rebate page as promised, then I called customer service to complain and was sent from one recorded message to another with no human contact.
Greendot is a very unscrupulous company and should be made to meet the standards of ethics that will be of greater help to customers instead of taking advantage of people who have credit problems and can't get treditional credit cards

Green Dot overcharged

After having a Green Dot card for some time, I was offered a Green Dot Premier membership. The enrollment fee for this was 19.95 but if you signed up that day you would get 10.00 credit to your account if you sent an email to [protected]@greendotcorp.com with the correct information. This was in October, they charged me the 19.95, I never saw the $10.00 credit.

In addition, the monthly fee for the Premier membership is advertised 9.95, or 4.95 is you direct deposit more than 750 per month. My paychecks are currently direct deposited on to this card and total more than 1800 per month. Yet, I am still charged the 9.95 per month. The numerous times I have tried to contact their customer service, I have been unsuccessful, it only has automated options. This company is taking advantage of people who do not have many banking options, I would not recommend them to anyone.

I'm sorry but this is ignorant. Just because a product is sold at a store doesn't mean everyone is going to know every detail of it. If maybe we had a section dedicated to the cards and someone trained to know every detail then yes...We sell the stuff. We dont' make it. We don't use it. We don't taste or smell it. We're just cashiers checking you out for what you buy. They probably told you that information because it's what they were told it does.

Green Dot trouble registering card

I bought a Green Dot-Visa online shopping card at a Rite Aid store. I tried to register it online but none of the numbers, either on the envelope, on the card, or on the store receipt, was the right registration number. On the website, non of the examples of cards looked like the Online Shopping Card I have- mine is orange. I didn't just pick it up on the street somewhere, I bought it from a reputable store! How can I rectify this? Can the card be exchanged by Visa (after all, they put their name on it!) for a gift card, like one I used before with no problem? Will the store take it back? It hasn't been used! I really need this money- I spent $200 and that is a lot for me. Please help!

Put down $200 on this *^#!* card and can't get it to work. Just want to get credit into Paypal. Bought one of these a few years ago. Said they would not disclose your info. Not long after a long letter in the mail said if I wanted my info to remain private I would have to do this and that. Said I'd never get another. Got this one by mistake trying to get paypak. Banks are PIGS-PIGS-PIGS. Especially the NY banks.

Hey I thought I'd try and help someone if possible... I just bought on of the Online Green dot visa cards also... I tried to register it but there was no right activation no on the card or receipt or package...
You have to go to www.mygreendot.com
and not to the regualar www.greendot.com
On mygreendot.com there you will see where to input the temporary card no that is on the card and to input all your information to complete the registration.
I went to an online site and the card verified after that NO PROBLEM.

Hope this helps! I was stumped for awhile also...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Green Dot theft - poor customer service

On January 7th, 2009, after changing jobs i was issued my pay from my new job. I needed to send a payment, I wasn't going to have time to get to the bank and the paymybill.com website doesn't accept Visa... so I decided to get a GreenDot money pak.

I went to the register and loaded the funds ($250.00 plus $4.52 service fee) onto the "Money Pak" and left the store, went home and attempted to load the funds onto my Green Dot Mastercard.

The load was unsuccessful, according to the website, the load had already been made to my card. So, I logged in and checked my account balance, but no funds had been applied to my card. I attempted to call Customer Service, per the back of the card, but couldn't reach a live representative, just recordings. Finally I followed the voice prompt to "report a lost or stolen card" and then didnt key in any information (they ask for card number and SSN) - at which time I was directed to a live person.

The "Customer Service Department" must be in Malaysia or the like, because while the representatives DO speak some version of English, each one I have spoken to carries an extremely heavy accent and is very difficult to understand. I give them credit for speaking a second language, but it speaks volumes about the company when they dont want to spend the money to have Americans answer their Customer Service calls.

The representative advised me that I would have to call "Loss Management" because the number I called doesn't handle MoneyPak problems, only lost cards. I was given a number and called it immediately the next morning upon arriving to work.

The Loss Management Representative advised me that they wanted a copy of the register receipt where the MoneyPak Load was processed, and if I had it, a copy of the MoneyPak card that I used to initiate the load. I made a clear and legible copy of the requested items put my name, office telephone number, cellular telephone number and home telephone number on the paper... and faxed them to Loss Management immediately.

Loss Management (also located somewhere in the Malaysian countryside) first advised me they hadn't received my fax, although I had two fax confirmations that stated that they had... and so I faxed again, and they said they got it. The representative indicated that he did not handle this type of claim, that he would forward it to another department and that these issues are resolved within 24 hours.

I called back the next day, after being put on hold and disconnected on 3 separate occasions, I got another representative, who advised me first that I would have to refax, then that she had found my information, and that it would be 48 hours until I received resolution on my issue. The representative started verifying my information and asked me if my telephone number was (814) XXX-xxxx. I live in the (304) area code, and had never given them an 814 number. (Remember my numbers and name are PRINTED ON THE PAPERWORK I FAXED TO THEM!) I was advised that the card to which my funds were deposited had already spent the funds, and so they would have to put a "Hold" on the card and get the money back from that account. I was advised that the information had been sent to a specialist for processing... I should call back Monday.

I called back Monday. After more headaches and disconnections, I finally spoke to a representative who indicated that they paperwork had not been submitted until the 9th, so that this was only the beginning of the second business day and I would need to wait, that someone would be contacting me by the close of business to let me know that my funds were available for me to use. The representative started verification of the call back numbers, and again informed me that my number was listed in their system as (814) XXX-xxxx. My number has never been 814 anything, so ONCE AGAIN... I gave the correct numbers to the representative, that they should have already recorded when they got my fax... or on the previous phone calls. I was told to call Tuesday and all should be completed.

I called the GreenDot Loss Management department today at 12:00 p.m., and was connected to Jason. Jason also had a heavy accent and was difficult to understand, but he advised me that they had started processing my request on January 10th (WHAT? I sent this in on the 7th.. and was told THEN that it was going to be 24 hours... and NOW I HEAR it hasnt even been started until the 10th?) I advised him of all the information above, and he put me on hold to come back and let me know that "the person who handles these claims is not answering their phone and I will have to have them call you back". After further verification, Jason advised that he would give me a call back, and the phone number he had on file was...

Guess what...?

I bet you know...

Yes.. it was listed as (814) XXX-xxxx. I advised him that I had given correct information to THREE prior representatives and that I was very upset/frustrated... I feel that the representatives have NO IDEA what they are doing, they have NO Customer Service Skills, either they don't document or read screens, and I am still out my money that originally I was told I would have back within 24 hours... on Thursday morning of the prior week... and fully FOUR business days ago, and SIX actual days from today.

As of this moment, I still am out $250.00, I still have no idea what is happening or if I will ever see my money again, and I am faced with poor customer service and no recourse to getting this resolved in a more timely manner.

My suggestion... Don't buy a GreenDot card, unless it's money you have to burn... and if that's the case... BURN IT... at least you'll get heat for a few moments until it extinguishes.

I am so glad that I found this site. All of the comments are interesting. I got a Green Dot card because Bank of America would not close my account as I requested and then kept adding up fees until the account became negative. So I was unable to open a conventional bank account. So I thought that I would try Green Dot. My part time employer did a direct deposit to my Green Dot account and yes, you guessed it. The people at Green Dot cannot find any record of it. They asked me to find out the trace numbers which I provided to them. They still can't find any record of the deposit. It's only for $104, but I live on disability and $100 to me is like $10000 to others. I need every penny just to exist. If I ever get my money out of them, I am closing the account as soon as possible. I plan to tell everyone I know that this company is a fraud. Their customer service eis deplorable!

I am in a battle with them right now..$750 was stolen from my account and after a million attempts of trying to get my money back, I've had no luck. I spoke to countless representatives. I've been hung up on over 10 times over the past year. I've spoke with 5 managers or more and they finally sent me a very unprofessional letter that simply said "we can not return your money. Sorry for the inconvenience". They didn't do any sort of investigation what so ever. It has already been over a year. I've contacted the BBB and sent numerous letters. Finally someone contacted me from green dot and guess what happens.."I missed the damn call!"...i called hr right back and she hasn't answer since. Now I am taking this to court. So my advice to you all of you...never put alot of money on a pre paid card! The company who sold it to you don't give a [censor] about you! you mean nothing to them. Basically if you money gets stolen, you are [censor] out of luck! And there is no such thing as customer service. Either open a bank account with over-draft protection or simly keep a safe.

I totally agree with you. I've worked at a bank and have banked with Capital One and Bank of America as well as Green Dot. I have accounts with each of those companies and I must say I've had issues with them all with the exception of Green Dot (Thank God!) I think it's just unfortunate that sometimes people fall through the cracks due to poor customer service or the rep not paying attention to detail when keying in someone's information. My purpose for using green dot is because I like to shop online and I use it for my netflix or redbox rentals. I dont' like to connect my primary bank accounts to any of those things or put it online due to all the hacking going on these days.

I hope you guys have recovered your funds and hope things work out for you.

Sincerely,

As for me, I have had Greendot for an exceptionally long time. I have victimized by ID Theft from Bank Of America over 5 years ago, and have had a GreenDot card ever since that, since I'm unable to get approved for any actual bank account or credit card.

Has served me better than Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc. I couldn't live without it.

As for your complaints of getting money put back on your card after you return the car. Credit to your card in those circumstances can take upto 10 business days, It depends on when Hertz and when the bank process those types of transactions. Some banks do them every day (troublesome process for their automated systems), or every 3 days, 5 days or every 2 weeks. Though I'm sure your bank will tell you that it will be returned tomorrow, They couldn't honestly tell you because it's not seen when it's on the back end of the systems as pending. Only when it actually HITS your account as pending.

As for the Moneypak being pre-spent...I've NEVER had that problem in the over 5 years that I've had my card. Don't know what to say to that.

As for your address and SSN...This is NOT a prepaid gift card...This is actually a DEBIT Card (VISA) that is registered to your name in "actually" a BANK ACCOUNT that is set up specifically for prepaid services thru GE Money Bank.

To open a bank account, you are REQUIRED to give your SSN, Address, name, etc etc etc...Just like if you went into Chase bank and asked to open up a checking account. That's why they require that.

But as far as I can say, I've NEVER EVER EVER Had a problem with GreenDot and sometimes I feel I would rather spend life with them then with a standard bank like Chase, Huntington, Bank of America, Wells Fargo etc

Got a gift, of a green dot card, from a friend and I am lead to believe by the Green Dot web site that I must relinquish address, social security number, etc… to use this card.

After reading this blog I would not trust this card supplier nor and anyone showing the lack of sophistication and subtlety or of critical judgment and analysis that would affiliate with it especially Wal-Mart!

I am happy this research has permitted me the dodging of this possible financial nightmare, but what of my friend. I am uncertain (due to the inaccessibility at the card’s site or by phone) of how much money he had put on the card as a gift to me and now he is out. I don’t want to tell him his gift was no good. I do want to let him know of the matter of significance and caution he should use with the purchase of products at so called trusting retailers (Wal-Mart).

Well I guess these types of operations will be permitted to prey on the unknowing by hiding behind bureaucratic technology cloaking pertinent information from consumers and pilfering their money with the combination of inaccessibility to data and expiration dates. And with the assistants of large retailers such as Wal-Mart will be permitted to directly plague the population in these hard economic times.
