To whom it may concern,

I would like to give feedback on the current hiring process at Walmart. I was called into an interview at the Burbank location, and was offered a part time position as a Cashier that I was very excited to receive. I had stated on my application and verbally that I have a full time position, and that my availability was in the evening, and anytime on the weekends. When I had finished filling out my paperwork, and was told I had the job, the hiring manager said that Orientation was everyday from 10-7 for a week or more at times and there was no flexibility during this time. I don't understand how Walmart can require this amount of time from people who apply for Part time jobs. Most people applying for these positions are in school, work another day time job, have personal obligations like family, and children, and so forth. I was very disappointed to receive the position that I had hoped for, only to have to give it up due o the strict Orientation time frames.

I applied for a job at Walmart online and called to request an interview. I talked to a Manager, Maria in Women's apparel department. I was hired on the spot, but was told it would take two weeks for my background check to be completed. I called back after two weeks and was told my background
check came back. I was told to come in for an orientation on a Thursday from 9-4p.m. I got a call on Wednesday from a Gwendolyn that she couldn't do the orientation on Thursday, she would have to reschedule for the following Tuesday. What is it with this place? I think there is age discrimination going on here. Walmart seems to be putting me off.

Walmart requires lengthy online applications. I have applied online 4 times. I keep getting emails saying "no job is open in that location please apply here" and the click re-routes me to Another application website. There are 4 Walmarts in my area. I want to work! It's impossible even to get an interview with the ridiculously long applications and being told to fill out yet another online application over and over. This has happened not only to me but to 3 of my friends.

My complaint is how this store does the hiring for new employees. i have 14 years experience in retail. seven years in management. i did the online application at the store in sykesville, maryland. to begin this complaint, the type of mouse i used did not work correctly. it was a ball that did not work. i spent more time trying to move it to the correct responses than i did to complete the actual application. with this in mind, i firmly believe they do not go into the system to check for any new applicants. i am looking for a management position with walmart that is close to my home. i have a lot to offer this company with my management experience and this was not an option with the application. i understand its a basic application, but how is anyone associated with the store going to know if it is not available? i was a dedicated employee in my last job. i also believe that this store hires based on family and friends. not necessarily based on experience or knowledge. walmart is number one in the retail business. i would like to think it is more advanced that the typical kmart when it comes to hiring. my application has been sitting in the "we will contact you " zone for 57 days. if the company is not hiring, why is it posted on line? am the the wrong color? is my age a factor? many questions.. i just wanted to let you know that with todays economy and people losing jobs, it would be nice to know that walmart is helping. suggestion. change the way you hire. going on line is basically allowing the computer to do the hiring. or, maybe the manager of the store needs to go in and update all applications.
its a great store. get more involved in the hiring business. meet and interview. its all part of finding the right person for the position that needs to be filled.

I'm 100% with you, muffypuff3. I have soooooo many complaints about Barb in Personnel at our Winona MN walmart that I may quit before I'm hired. I already signed a "Job Offer" there and now must wait an additional 2 weeks for the background check to clear because I indicated that I had a DWI in my younger years. On top of that, after they accepted me and had me sign the "Job Offer" they then disputed my times available to work. Did they even read my application? I want Barb's job! Don't need to know crap. Don't need to do crap!

Listen they gave you a whole week to schedule it, if you are unavailable then I guess you really didn't need the job. Work places can only be so flexable and it is one day out of your life .

I am a wal mart sales associate and I have to say that I strongly disagree with this complaint. The statement that wal mart doesn't check their application system is false. The personal associate checks applications daily. The personal associate has to follow certain guidelines in order to be considered for a job. Some of the main guideline are as follows...You need to have three vaild references and the references numbers must be vaild and working in order for walmart to contact them. The other guideline is to pass the test that you take during the application process. If you fail the test they will NOT consider your application. It's very important to pass that test. It's all about the customer and the customer is always right. The application only stays for a few days and it's drop out of the system. Please know what your talking about before saying that wal mart needs to get more involved with the hiring business because wal mart does have employess that work in the hiring part of wal mart.
