Anyone who has ever dealt with Vonage will know about the problems they have with connection service, customer service and improper billing. One specific problem is Vonage will charge you a disconnect fee of $39.95 plus sales tax without any notice. Most customers are not aware that Vonage charges a disconnection fee. Regardless of whether you disconnect due to poor service, no service or any other reasonable need to cancel you will be charged $39.95. Unfortunately, most won't discover this until after their forced to cancel service. If you read the agreement, (and most have never heard of it or read it) you will soon discover that it’s written for the sole intent to protect Vonage, not you the consumer. You’re basically giving up all your rights when you buy their service. Vonage will use this agreement in their defense for charging you the disconnect fee. The good thing is this agreement is actually considered illegal. All agreements or contracts have to be written in a way that everyone can understand what their reading, not one that requires a dictionary to decipher. Also, most States and Local Civil and Criminal Jurisdictions will not uphold this type of agreement and allow consumers to file a lawsuit regardless of the language. I won’t go into the legal specifics about how it should be written but Vonage has absolutely no language what so ever for the protection of the consumer. A legal agreement or I should say one that will stand up in a court of law has to be fair; obviously Vonage is way out of bounds with the one their using. By their terms, you are giving up every right imaginable, including if the President of Vonage decided to shoot you...oh well, there’s not much you can do about that, you agreed not to sue anyone related to Vonage. That’s a little bit of a stretch, but you see what this could lead too. Vonage has gotten away with this scare tactic for many years, simply because they know most consumers won't pay $150.00 plus to file a law suit. Nor will most forgo using an attorney because the fees are not cost effective. The thing is you don't have too. Here’s what everyone needs to do, provided you are fed up with Vonage. Write or visit your local State Attorneys office and seek criminal charges against Vonage. Write your Local and State Representative and complain. If enough people follow through and file a complaint you will see legal actions brought against Vonage. Don't believe everything you read, just because Vonage has a No Class Action clause in their agreement, that doesn't necessarily make it legal. You’re wasting your time trying to resolve your problem with Vonage, take it a step further and let your State do the work for you. If a class action suit is filed against Vonage you will get your money back! Let's get together and put a stop to Vonage and their Scam. It will only happen if you make your voice heard! Do It Today!

I had been a customer of Vonage since 2004 and called to cancel my account as the charges had gone from $9.99 a month to $23 a month without any notice. I also discovered Skype could offer better service at a much reduced price. The customer service person offered to reduce my rate again which was great, but told them I still was not interested. I had to request 5 times to have my account canceled and the person then tried to essentially tell me I was stupid for switching since it isn't a real service. It is also very frustrating since the call center is based on India and they have difficulty understanding what they are being told. They also would not refund my month fees unless I called a different number and started all over again. Really huge pain... beware.

I don't understand why Vonage keeps on increasing its price on their service while their competitors are thinking of ways to reduce it or at least add features without increasing their service fees. I already switched to Onesuite VoIP service a long time ago and its much cheaper and better suited to my needs.

I agree with both postings above, as a vonage refugee with a record 2.5 hours on the phone waiting to talk to some dumdass that did'nt speak English and tries to politely kiss your derrier until the time of the kill when they hit you with a disconnect charge and give you some lame excuse. I agree they need to be sued into history and be brought to their knees. I have used in the meantime a new service that is out and their customer service and service blow vonage out of the water, its called Ooma www.ooma.com, Let me recommend that you read up on the site about their service and you make your own opinion. The service is free or 99.00 a year with the premier package, the only setback is that you need to purchase the equipment upfront, and if you decide to try I bought my equipment on Amazon, they have the best price on the unit.

We have had an awful experience with Vonage. We started with Vonage in Jan. 2006 and in Sept. of 2007 our router malfunctioned and Vongae sent us a new one. This is where the horror story begins. Vonage set up new phone numbers for us with the new device and took months to resolve the issue and numerous hours on the phone. Each time you call them, it take an hour or more and often you get disconnected and have to call back and start the whole process over again. We were billed for both accounts and have yet to be refunded the money, we had signed up a relative and never received a credit as advertised, and now that we have cancelled, they are still trying to charge us. I was told 2 weeks ago to mail the new router to them and there would be no charge. I did and received an e-mail from them confirming receipt of the device. Today when I cancelled the service, I was told, I had been misinformed and there is no credit for returning the devise. I was charged 120.00 plus for cancelling our service. They claimed I cancelled 3 days short of a year and therefore owe them for the device they sent me to replace their device which had malfunctioned. Then there is the cost of 39.95 for each line and we have 2. This is the biggest rip off I have ever seen and they just seem to get away with it. We are not done and will continue to fight them.

I completely agree; VONAGE has alot of hidden fees and misleading free trials with a catch. The catch is that if you cancel they charge you.
