I ordered certainteed vinyl windows from the company Viwinco. The seller provided the warranty, but he didn’t tell me for what parts or for the whole window this warranty was. When I called them and asked about warranty, the agent told me that they would send the specialist to my place. But the specialist refused to repair, because this warranty didn’t work for it. I understood that this guy wouldn’t use my warranty, but I was really upset that they didn’t explain me it before. So I want to warn other people, and don’t buy from them.
Viwinco was one of the largest manufacturers of "Certainteed" windows. In reality there never was a Certainteed window. They sub-contracted the production out to around 37 different companies with slightly different quality levels depending where your "Certainteed" window was manufactured.
Viwinco was caught in the crossfire when PlyGem purchased Certainteed Windows and Doors in Sept 2007. Then Metal Industries negotiated a 10-year agreement with CertainTeed Corp. to become the licensor of CertainTeed brand windows and patio doors in Eastern half of the United States. PlyGem continues to be the licensor for CertainTeed brand window products in the Western U.S. and Western Canada.
If you have Certainteeds that were made before 2007 - Certainteed will indeed honor their warranty. You will find this on their website:
