I took my son's kitten to VCA animal clinic because she had a URI from the shelter I adopted her from. They refused to honor my free vet appointment I recieved from the shelter, charged me 300 dollars on treatment and medicine that made her symptoms increase. I took her to a shelter vet and spent 50 including medications. She was better within two days..

In Colorado, animals are considered abandoned if there has been no contact from the owners for 5 consecutive days.

You ought not own an animal, let alone 2 or more, if you are unable or unwilling to provide them the necessary care they require financially or otherwise. In my eyes this is on the same level as child neglect.

To the owner--this VCA hospital cared for your animals at their own expense after you abandoned them. They were treated until well enough to be fostered by hospital employees until such time they could be adopted. You ignored multiple attempts to contact you by phone and by mail--NOR did you ever show up at the hospital to take claim of your animals. THAT my friends is abandonment.

The neglect and eventual abandonment of these animals is entirely your own doing. Shame on you for trying to pawn off that responsibilty.

If you had wanted to claim ownership of those animals you would have been at that hospital demanding their release or their treatment---not cowering at home or online berating a hospital that did nothing but save your animals lives and find them good and caring homes.

If there was any decency in you, you would acknowledge the truth, and attempt in good faith to pay back those who saved the lives the animals you ABANDONED.

I called the VAC hospital in NYC, and asked if I could bring in a ferral cat to be euthanized. I drove across several boros, at night, only to have the vet tell me no she wasn't going to euthanize the cat. She didn't even look at the cat once, which was in a cage in the corner. She advised me to go to animal control, however both 311 and animal control told...

VCA gives customers a discount card which states "board your pet for 9 days and get the 10th for free. At VCA Animal Hospital in Clearwater, FL. I boarded my pet for 9 days. When I asked to have the discount card validated for the 9 days, I was told that they count each boarding stay as one day. Only day was validated. This contradicts what is stated on...

Since December 2009 I've paid over $12, 000 in vet bills for both of my rescue dogs who became catastrophically ill (bone cancer and brain tumor) at the same time. Both were eventually treated at VCA Lynnwood. I had an issue with one of the bills and I was simply told that if I didn't pay by a certain date they would send it to collections. I was upset that...

VCA Animal Hospitals performed unnecessary surgery on my dog

A pre-op biopsy was never performed on the two growths on my dog's body.

Post-op pathology reported the growths were completely benign. This fact could have been determined without surgery. VCA has caused my dog unnecessary pain and suffering, has caused me emotional anxiety, and cost me a surgical and medical bill past $1, 500. Additionally, when sutures were removed 2 weeks post-op, I was informed my dog was "healing well". My dog subsequently chewed open a section of the wound, requiring further veterinary attention, at an additional cost of $328. Also, my dog will always have a permanent disability in one leg as a result of the totally unnecessary surgery. It is not known at this time how the disability and surgery aftereffects will affect my dog in the future. When queried as to why a pre-op biopsy was not performed when in the office to have the surgery repair performed, the veterinarian on duty replied, "sometimes we don't".

Since the surgery was unnecessary, which could have been determined by a pre-op biopsy lab test, I feel VCA was deliberately trying to make a commission on this case by going ahead without a pre-op biopsy. My dog would not have required a second visit for surgical repair if a pre-op biopsy had been performed, and I said that to the veterinarian on duty.

There was no response from the veterinarian; the lack of comment "told " me all I need to know.

I feel VCA owes me restitution in this case, adjustment of the fees is definitely in order. There is totally substantiated evidence from the pathology lab that the growths were benign. VCA cannot dispute the facts.

A good veterinarian will sit down and discuss necessary procedures and other that are not. Animal clinics such as this are more interested in financial gain and not animal care. I found a vet that is responsible and does not financially rape you. I stay away from all clinic like this.

Growths are sometimes removed on animals that are benign. The reasons being that they are causing the animal discomfort because of location or size or that a vet feels that they could become malignant over time. Makes no sense to do a preoperative biopsy if the growth needs to be removed anyway.

I myself would be grateful to hear the word benign after the removal. I lost my dog last year to a growth that wasn't benign. I'd gladly change places with you.

VCA Animal Hospitals cruelty

I can't even find the words to tell you how traumatizing the experience with the VCA animal hospital was. I brought in an injured wild animal that was struggling to live for 6+ hours, and I wanted to put an end to its misery. They turned me away and said that they could only do so if I was to pay them upwards of a hundred dollars. I was unable to do so which led to the poor thing dying a slow death, gasping for air because of the lack of compassion they showed at VCA. I was appalled at the lack of compassion shown towards the animal, and realized this place is only in it to make a large financial incentive.

VCA Animal Hospitals no confidence

At the VCA Hospital at Sierra Vista, AZ, we received notification for needing to update our dogs for Bordetella (Kennel Cough) in the mail. When I showed up the vet insisted that I had to get all shots for my dogs, even though all of the other shots still had several months to go before needing to get new vacinations. I asked them why was it necessary for them to get "all" shots and I was told that "this is the way we do this in the hospital". For example, our dogs have a current rabies shot (was vacinated less than one year ago) that is good for 3 years. A three year shot is "legal" in AZ. They insisted on giving the shots. As a result I paid a fortune for unnecessary shots, and I have another source that I can used that charges much less for shots than VCA. It REALLY appears that they are trying to make money (profit) at the expense of animal care. I can't trust their judgement now, because I don't have confidence now if different tests, lab work are really necessary, or is a quick way for them to make a buck.

I feel the same as you do. I noticed an abrupt change in direction when VCA bought out my vet. Animal care came secondary, PRESSURING you into a lot of tests, many totally unnecessary, came first. It's frighteningly apparent they are profit driven now and as a result I am taking my cat to another vet who has not succumbed to whatever tactics VCA uses to buy a practice out. If you don't agree to all they say they need to do, they try to guilt you in to it or make you feel like a bad pet owner. I don't trust them-and I don't necessarily blame the vets, I blame what VCA is apparently telling them they have to do or whatever incentives they are using to get the profits they want.

VCA Animal Hospitals poor attitude and care for pets

I took a very, very badly injured kitten to VCA Palmetto Animal Hosp. in Conway, South Carolina and over 30 min. later they finally decided they could see him. They wanted to stablize him.(he had a very bad injury in the shoulder and could not use his leg at all) They waited 4 DAYS before they xrayed and took him to surgery. He died because of the severity of his injuries and lack of concern by VCA. AND they charged me almost $900.00. NEVER AGAIN. I love animals and believe they have a right to decent care and I don't mind paying but they let him down, me down and all animal lovers everywhere.

VCA Animal Hospitals rip off

I took my cat here. I knew she was very sick, we adopted her after her original owner died. We had her for only 1.5 years and nursed her back to relative health. We took her here because she was having a hard time breathing. The vet said the diagnostic tests, just 2 x-rays would cost $165., then if they couldn't find anything from that they would have to put a camera down her throat... I couldn't afford all this. He gave her a shot of cortisone saying this would help her but just for a short time. It did and it gave us time to think what to do. They said euthanasia is $123 when i asked. But the next day, her breathing became so labored again so I brought her back the next night to euthanize her. I told them when I came in what I needed, that I needed her to be put down. The girl brought me in the room and called a vet. in. I told him what was going on with her, and what the vet said yesterday and told him I needed to put her down, I was crying. He said he would get his stethescope. He listened to her, we talked for a bit, I thought he was just being nice. I told the girl I wanted to be with her while she was put down, and they had me fill out a paper on what I wanted to do with the remains. I asked if any of these options cost more and she said no. Then she took my cat, saying she was going to start the IV. They brought me to the front to pay and asked for $230! I was shocked. They said the extra was for the vet to examine her. The vet came out and we argued about the unanticipated cost $100 for him to listen to her lungs but they took that cost off. Then they were going to charge me $75 for them to dispose of her remains when earlier they told me it was no extra cost, so I told them I would take her home and bury her. Then, the girl who took my cat to start the IV comes out with Samantha wrapped in a towel, again I was shocked and said, "I told you I wanted to be with her" and took my cat and ran out the door.
This place is horrible. Not only a rip off but a bunch of liars. They are predators who try to prey on you when you are vulnerable. Please, spread the word, never take your animal to this place. A horrible experience, it was horrible that Samantha died, scared, without me with her. They took that away from me.

VCA Animal Hospitals failed to properly diagnose blood tests result

VCA Smoketown, Pa diagnosed our 14 year old jack russell with high liver enzymes and gall bladder levels extremely high after senior blood test results for 300 dollars.

They recommended a medication formula for another 100 dollars which we followed daily no other testing was done and were told to come back in a month.Fourteen days latter we had to put our precious pet down. There was no compassion from Smoketown!VCA is in it for the almighty big business dollar. We received more concern and compassion from the oncall vet at our local PETS emergency center then we did of our vet of 14 years!

VCA Animal Hospitals delay in surgery

I am pissed because I made an appt to have my cat fixed with an office visit the same day and my daughter took the cat at 7am and I am was supposed to pick up my cat after work. Then they said they were over booked and could not do the surgery after she got there and made up a story that because he had his shots, they couldnt do it. They knew he needed shots. They also overcharged me for cleaning his ears. The office manager in claremont ca lied to me. I will never go back to vca because they lie and overcharged me

VCA Animal Hospitals worthless and expencive

I have a constipated dog and took him to the vca. 2 days and $2100 later I still have a very sick and very constipated dog. They didn’t do anything except run a bunch of tests, hold him for two days, increase charges, and administer two enemas a day. The things they were charging for were ridiculous! $85 dollars to administer shots. Not counting the price of the medication that was being given. $40 for an iv dispenser rental. That’s right; they charged me a daily rental fee on the bag holder for my dogs iv. Unacceptable.

This was one of the worst experiences of my pet owning life. I feel used and fully taken advantage of. I will forever and always recommend against the vca to everyone I meet from here on out. Greed in your moment of weakness is their business plan.

It's called a 2nd opinion. You ignorant pet owners should take some responsibility. Before you attack me, I take calls from you [censored]es all day. "I think my animal is dying! He hasn't been eating for 3 days, and has been breathing heavy and can't stand up anymore." "Can you be here in 30 minutes?" "Hm...welll...no, I have to pick up my kid from school. Can I just come next week?"

Your pet is suffering you say? Ask yourself ONE question: "Who has been taking "care" of my pet?"

VCA Animal Hospitals expense & ethics

To everyone on this board that is defending vca, you are foolish people not to be taken seriously. If you think their service is kind and compassionate and fairly priced, you haven't been to a good vet. They charge if you want to stay in the room when they put your dog or cat down. Outrageous!
Do your pet a favor, find a private vet, not a corporate owned money making false pretenses coldhearted facade of a veterinary therapeutic practice.

I warn you, stay away from vca if you love your pet.

My vet in PA was bought out by VCA last year. I didn't see any changes until I took my dog for a simple nail trim. Usually he needs to be sedated. This last time he was. My typical bill was for $27.92 and this time, with the new VCA prices implemented, it was an astounding $92.84! The sedation went from $17.10 to 69.84! This price increase makes gas prices seem low!

I will be moving all my pets to a private practice doctor who has the compassion for their patients and the economic reality of his clients!

I used to work for a vca hospital. They treat their employees as horrendous as their patients and clients! A money making racket! Cut staff in half provide less care to all alling pets.If you love your pet or are in the market for a job in the vet field. Absolutely stay away! You are nothing more than $ in their pockets! They are extremely false leading in their care. Honestly, they don't care. A BIG corporate business. That just happens to be a pet business. Very, Very sad.

VCA Animal Hospitals frustration

I am so frustrated with pvca pacific avenue animal hospital. They have been great with my two dogs. But today was the final straw! I have never rarely complain about the people or the vets but the price and the place is something to worry about. How frustrating is that... They no longer accept care credit? They never sent a letter out to warn the customers. They never called or left a message in regards to the change policy. How unorganized is that?!?! Just imagine how I didn't have the money to pay for my vet bills and was depended on the care credit to take care of that... But what if? Thank god I had cash! When I came in to have them express my dogs anal glands.. Of course that cost money (26.70) and then when I asked the vet tech, if I can come in to see how they do it since its so expensive, mind me.. I work full time, school full time and to go to pvca is very expensive. It is frustrating that you want to trust pvca because you love your animals and you would do anything to give them best, but when you pay a large amount of money and then to go back to the vet tech area where animals are being treated? Is beyond me. There is blood on the freaking floor, table, handles, its not alot but smears... Mind me, I work in the medical field, whether a consumer comes in and checks out the place or a vet doctor... Wouldn't they care enough about the place? To at least clean the god damn place? I did mention that there is blood, I might of been rude... But to understand that my poor babies are being treated in a dirty place and its crazy price... Is beyond me! Make up your mind. I will discontinue going to this facility. I would rather go to another cheaper place that really do care about cleanliness, good customer service, price-friendly!

VCA Animal Hospitals inferior treatment and service

I had been taking my cat to see the vets at vca berwyn for several years but the quality of service took a sharp decrease in the past two years.in particular, I had a vet who claimed she'd checked my cat's blood pressure before putting him on a medicine for anemia... A week later my cat went blind from an hypertensive crisis due to high blood pressure and when I talked to another vet they could find no notes of this blood pressure check having been done at all. And this blindness could have been averted had she actually checked his blood pressure before putting him on the medicine.

My advice is to stay far far away from vca berwyn. They used to be good but now, there is a lack of quality care and compassion which was most evident when I was trying to say good bye to my cat (several months later after his hypertensive crisis) before having him put to sleep and the receptionist kept running in to talk about money and fees.

I took a 9 year old himalayan-persian cat into a vca clinic with pneumonia
in Farmington Hils, MI. They didn't check his bllod pressure either. They wanted to do a chest xray, and a bunch of other tests
I told them I was laid off and don't have much money on me. They said we can't do anything about that, and that vca governs
that ad you will have to pay for all services or none. I said give me some antibiotics and I will be out of there. He had pneumonia,
and had a stroke the next day, and couldn't breath. I caled them and told them, they said you will have to pay if you bring him in.
I said I don't have any money, can't you see him on professional courtesy, they said no. I said my fathers prcatice and my brothers medical practice see veterans and laid off people with no insuramce for free. They said we can't d anything about it. So I gave him
the antibiotic, but it wasn't fast enough, he dided from a stroke, which paralyzed him, and from pneumonia. Never go to a VCA Clinic.
No compassion there.

VCA Animal Hospitals poor service

I went into the local vca because my dog was not eating and vomiting bile during a time when my regular vet was out of town for the week.

The vca vet tried to sell me several items which were estimated to cost $600-$800+ and this would simply get the dog feeling "comfy" and allow for a single blood test which carried no guarantee of any diagnosis. The vet must have taken some sort of class on selling "value added services" as I felt as though I was on some used car lot. Asking what could I spend today and informing me of credit options if necessary. They just tried to sell me so much which I didn't need. A $60 injection of tagamet and another of $75 for essentially pepto-bismol.

What a rip-off.

VCA Animal Hospitals poor service wrong diagnose

My 5 Year old dog who was energetic and her usual self suddenly stopped eating and was not being herself, so I took her to the VCA of Delaware Valley Hospital where she was looked at by the Dr. who could not even see and he diagnosed my dog with Pyometra, explaining to me that she needed x-rays and blood work which I approved (never once did he ask about what I feed my dog or did she eat anything new) and if he would have asked me about the food I feed my dog, he would have known that My dog was eating Pedigree (which was recalled for salmonella) and that I had been giving her Vita Life Chicken Jerky (which is suspected of causing Kidney Failure) he then scheduled her for surgery the next day at 8:30 am, and when we got her there they accepted her and about 10:00 am a different Dr. called my wife and explained that my dogs kidney levels are bad and that he would have to giver her fluids and keep and eye on her (never once did he explain that he was not equipped to give my dog the proper treatment, but after billing me an additional $499 that we would have to take her to a 24 hour hospital that HE recommended, I expressed my anger to him that he Got over $1000 from me and my dog is still sick, well I took my dog to the Cares Hospital (not the one he recommended) and the Veterinarian there told me that after looking at the X-ray’s (the same ones that the Dr. from VCA Gave me) she determined that my dog did not have Pyometra and that she has Kidney Failure and that the best we could do to stop her from suffering would be to euphanaize her (I was not prepared for this and it was the worse experience in my 43 years on this earth). My complaint is that the 1st Dr. who looked at my dog should have been able to diagnose that she did not have Pyometra from the sample he took from her (he used a glass plate and got some fluids from her cervix and said he will now look at it through a micro scope) and if he would have asked me about the food I feed my dog This Dr. could not even read the estimates that he was handing me, he had to hold the paper within 1 inch from his eyes, so how in the world was he looking at sample he took from my Dog. I believe that once the 2nd Dr. looked at the blood work that he knew she did not have Pyometra, but even though he knew that he could not provide the care my dog needed (he said this himself to me) that he would give her some fluids and watch her Kidney levels, before he could do surgery for the Pyometra (I believe he wasted valuable time and charged me an additional $499 for his services) only to tell me that I needed to take her to a 24 hour clinic, He did not even have the decency to come out to meet me when I picked her up from his office to explain the condition my dog was in. I will never go to this vet again, he should have asked me what food my dog was eating (with all the dogs getting sick from it you think this would have been the 1st thing he asked me)

First of all SPAYING your dog would have prevented pyometria. NOT her diet! Although, the doctor should ask you about your pets diet, you have just as much responsiblility to offer any other information up to the doctor if you're concerned. I'm sure the doctor assumed you fed your pet something better than crap food pedigree, especially if you knew that there were reported cases of salmonella. Its called being a RESPONSIBLE pet owner. And trust me no doctor at any hospital wants to waste their time talking to someone picking up their pet when the owner is as irresponsible or as dense as you.

Serial vets: no one seems to stay long enough to see the same animal two years in a row. Office visits are seen as marketing opportunities to hard-sell the pet owner on expensive and unnecessary dental treatments, blood tests, and care products. A rabies vaccine and "yearly exam" that amounts to weighing and temperature-taking cost $86. Never again.
