I was employed with this company for 4 years. Before I met Dr. Maurice McClain I was in a very bad place mentally and physically. I had no self confidence, and I didn't think I could do anything in life. He helped to groom me into the woman I am today. Before I met him I was living in a hotel in the worst part of Charleston, SC. Long story short Dr. Maurice...

Urban Development Solutions sponsors young black people to go door to door to sell magazines in predominantly white middle class neighborhoods in order to "help inner city kids". They misrepresent themselves as a "leg up" sort of organization, and sell magazines for "Midwest Clearing INC" at inflated rates. (See Midwest Clearing INC complaint). I confronted...

After researching this group, I found that they were recruiting people out of our shelter to perpetuate their scam. If you have been scammed by them, I have a phone number that should work for your contact. The gentleman who claimed to be the owner is Rodney Rankins was quite a pleasant person. But I am very concerned that he left our shelter with three...

Urban Development Solutions Magazines never received $175.00 worth

Purchased 4 magazine at $40 each plus a 15.00 processing fee on 06-20-08. On 08-11-08 spoke with Kate, about not receiving any magazines, she stated one order was not processed and the other has upto 120 days to be shipped. I informed her at that time that I would like to close this and receive a refund. She informed me that there policy was 120 days for shipping after the order had been placed. Since one order was placed on 6-21-08 I would have to wait 120 days in order to cancel, only if magazines were never received, well they weren't. The Second receipt was never processed so there for she could process it today 8-11 and I would have to wait another 120 days before I would receive a refund, again only if the magazines were never received. And those were never received, it is now 01-05-09 and have not seen a check or a magazine. I sent in a letter to Urban Developement Solutions on 10-01-08 to po box 18324 Golden, CO 80401 (this is the address the website gives for cancellations. I also sent a letter to the address that Kate had given to me [protected]), which was po box 18324 Golden, CO 80402. Both letter were identical and contained my name, form of payment, their receipts numbers and an explaination as to why I wanted a refund. Kate also informed me that the number I called was just an answering type service, that they were not actually Urban Development Solutions, but another company.
01-05-09 to date I can not reach company, phone number states all operators busy leave message. And there was never a response to the letters I sent. I can tell you it was two african americans, in their late 25's, both claiming to be from the inner city of chicago and somewhere else. They were currently living in NJ and travelled about 2 hours to solisite me and my neighbors. Another neighbor has had the same experience. One of the boys had a speech impedimont. I do not advise helping them as they called it, because this so called company has taken them in and given them room and bored and this is how they make extra money. I have seen them in our neighborhood before. I have both original receipts with the name of one of the boys on it. Please contact me if you have any questions or information anyone can provide.

Urban Development Solutions Magazine Subscription Service

A few months ago I purchased a couple magazine subscriptions from a young man who stopped by my door. I have yet to receive my magazine subscription, and the check was cashed months ago. Call me a sucker... oh well.

That being said, I would like someone who has their phone number/email address/website (one that they were actually able to get through to someone) to please email it to me.
I will be taking legal action to end this problem if this does not get worked out. I know the amount is somewhat insignificant, but to me it is the idea that this group thinks they can do this. I have plenty of lawyers that I am willing to utilize to get to the bottom of this!

Urban Development Solutions incorrect information posted

Urban Development Solutions is a legitimate company whose young people work very hard to satisfy their customers. Unfortunately, sometimes an individual is frustrated or confused and then posts incorrect information (UDS is NOT a scam!). If there is ever any question or concern about this company, please direct it to India in customer service at [protected], or [protected]@americancashawards.com. It is my pleasure to support both the young person at your door, and you, the customer! Thank-you

Malaysia Jet Brought Down by Missile, U.S. Officials Say

MOSCOW — A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 295 people aboard was shot down on Thursday by a surface-to-air missile, American officials have confirmed. The plane was traveling at about 30, 000 feet, according to tracking information from a military spy satellite. The satellite was unable to detect where exactly the missile was fired.
Military and intelligence analysts are using mathematical formulas, high-speed computers and other sensors to try to pin down the missile’s point of origin. Other analysts will work with the Ukrainian authorities to recover and analyze pieces of the missile and the aircraft to help determine what kind of missile was fired, the officials said.
The plane crashed and burned on Thursday in an eastern Ukraine wheat field near the Russian border, in an area roiled by fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian officials called the crash an act of terrorism. Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. of the United States, speaking in Detroit, said the plane “apparently has been shot down. Shot down, not an accident. Blown out of the sky.”
“This is truly a grave situation, ” Mr. Biden said. “Nearly 300 souls have been lost. The families need consolation and our prayers, and many questions need to be answered. And we’ll get those answers, and we’ll take action accordingly.” He added, “It’s important we get to the bottom of this sooner than later because of the possible repercussions that can flow beyond from this, beyond the tragic loss of life.”
Ukraine’s president, Petro O. Poroshenko, said in a statement that he was calling for an immediate investigation of the crash of the plane, which was en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Amsterdam. There were no reported survivors among the 280 passengers and 15 crew members.
Mr. Poroshenko said he had called the Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, to express his condolences and to invite Dutch experts to assist in the investigation. “I would like to note that we are calling this not an incident, not a catastrophe, but a terrorist act, ” Mr. Poroshenko said.
Malaysia’s prime minister, Najib Razak, called for an investigation at the crash site and the unfettered cooperation of local authorities. “Malaysia is unable to verify the cause of this tragedy, ” he said.
“No stone will be left unturned, ” he added. “If it transpires that the plane was, indeed, shot down, we insist that the perpetrators must be brought to justice.”
President Obama spoke with Mr. Poroshenko and Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, from aboard Air Force One.
Reporters arriving at the scene near the town of Grabovo described dozens of lifeless bodies strewn about, mostly intact, in a field dotted with purple flowers, with remnants of the plane scattered across a road lined with fire engines and emergency vehicles. “It fell down in pieces, ” said one rescue worker as tents were set up to gather the dead.

One passenger in a black sweater lay on her back, with blood streaming down her face and her left arm raised. The carcass of the plane was still smoldering, and rescue workers moved through the dark field with flashlights. Dogs barked in the distance, and the air was filled with a bitter smell.
A regional airline official said the plane had been flying at about 33, 000 feet when radar lost track of it.
For months, eastern Ukraine has been the scene of a violent pro-Russian separatist uprising in which a number of military aircraft have been downed. But this would be the first commercial airline disaster to result from the hostilities.
Despite the turmoil in eastern Ukraine, the commercial airspace over that part of the country is heavily trafficked and has remained open. Aeroflot, Russia’s national carrier, announced that it had suspended all flights to Ukraine for at least three days.
Malaysia Airlines, still reeling from the mysterious loss of another Boeing 777 flight in March, said it had lost contact with Thursday’s flight, MH17, over Ukraine but offered no further details immediately. Mr. Razak said initially in a Twitter post that he was “shocked by reports that an MH plane crashed. We are launching an immediate investigation.”
President Obama, who one day earlier had announced strengthened sanctions against Russia over its support for the eastern Ukraine separatists, spoke by telephone with Mr. Putin, who raised the issue of the reports of the downed plane, White House officials said. Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, said Mr. Obama had been briefed about the plane crash.
Later Mr. Obama said the United States government was working to determine whether any Americans had been aboard the flight. Russia’s Interfax news agency said there had been no Russians aboard.

There was no immediate word from the Kremlin about the substance of the Obama-Putin telephone call. The Kremlin put out a short statement saying that Mr. Putin had a previously scheduled telephone conversation with Mr. Obama.
“The parties had a detailed discussion about the crisis in Ukraine, ” the statement said. Mr. Putin repeated the need for an immediate cease-fire and objected to what he said was Ukrainian army fire striking inside Russia.
Russian news agencies said Mr. Putin also spoke by telephone to the president of Malaysia and offered his condolences.
Mr. Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, said in a statement said he was “deeply shocked” by the crash.
“A lot remains unclear about the reason, circumstances and those on board, ” he said. “I have just called with the Ukrainian president.”
The Dutch state news agency quoted tour operator WTC.nl as saying that around 20 to 30 Dutch and Belgian citizens had been on board.
Andrei Purgin, deputy prime minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the insurgent group in eastern Ukraine, denied in a telephone interview that the rebels had anything to do with the loss of the passenger jet. He said that the rebels had shot down Ukrainian planes before but that their antiaircraft weapons could reach only to around 4, 000 meters, far below the cruising level of passenger jets.

Amateur Video of Malaysia Airlines Crash
After a Malaysia Airlines jet crashed in Ukraine on Thursday, several amateur videos were posted online.
Publish Date July 17, 2014.
“We don’t have the technical ability to hit a plane at that height, ” he said.
He said that the plane had apparently come down in an area of Ukrainian military operations and that it was not out of the question that the Ukrainians themselves shot it down.
“Remember the Black Sea plane disaster, ” he said, referring to the 2001 crash of a Siberian Airlines passenger jet bound for Novosibirsk from Tel Aviv that the Ukrainians shot down by accident during a military training exercise.
Anton Geraschenko, an adviser at Ukraine’s Interior Ministry, said on his Facebook page that the Malaysia Airlines plane had been brought down by a Russian-made Buk, or Beech, antiaircraft system. Russian missile systems are named for trees.
A reference book published by Rosoboronexport, the Russian state weapons export monopoly, describes the Buk antiaircraft missile system as designed to target both low- and high-flying aircraft, to a maximum height of 72, 000 feet.
Mr. Geraschenko wrote that earlier Thursday people in eastern Ukraine supporting the central government had reported seeing a Buk system moved from the town of Torez toward the town of Snezhnoye.
A commander of a rebel unit in Donetsk, said, “We could have shot down three planes over Donetsk yesterday, but we didn’t because they could have been civilians.” He said the rebel forces did not have the Buk system.
In comments broadcast on Ukrainian television, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev and former heavyweight boxing champion, said the crash illustrated the risks to peace in Europe of the fighting in eastern Ukraine. “This is not just a local conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk but a full-scale war in the center of Europe, ” he said. “I’m certain the international community this time will pay attention and understand.”
Correction: July 17, 2014
An earlier version of this article misspelled the surname of Ukraine’s president. He is Petro O. Poroshenko, not Poroschenko.
Correction: July 17, 2014
An earlier version of this article misstated the title of Najib Razak. He is the prime minister, not president, of Malaysia. The article also misstated the direction a Siberian Airlines passenger jet was flying before it was shot down by Ukraine in 2001. It was flying from Israel, not to it.

Ok, India, I'll believe you - I'm going to email you under my private email. Let's see if you can help
I ordered $291.00 worth of magazines on 12/8/07. As to April 29, 2008, I received only one of the three magazines, and have never received the "Prayers for Kids" book (which was $82.oo - but hey, I thought I was helping out folks). I also received a magazine I never ordered.

My receipt says Urban is in Michigan, but it looks as if Urban is now in Colorado. No one has responded to me ---- WILL YOU?
I would really like to see you post the link / create a PDF to your non-profit status, etc.

Perhaps then those of us who opened our hearts and wallets would feel a little less scr**wed.

I agreed to purchase a magazine subscription to help out the girl at my door. When I asked how much to write my check for, I was told $80. Most mag subscriptions cost 20-30$ per year, which is my kindly upper limit for charitable deeds. As I repeatedly questioned the cost, the price came down to $30, plus a $15 s&h charge. Folks, I would rather have given the girl $20 than given her $45 for mags for Ronald McDonald house. Your expectations are pretty high, and when I read comments like the one above, it makes my doubt whether RMcD House will see any mags, and of course, I have no way to know. Don't think I'll participate again.
! Report Spam
I was explicitly told that all the price, including S&H would be tax-deductible, since the magazines were "donated" by the magazine company. But right on the receipt (which I read later) it says the UDS is a for-profit. Their website says nothing about whether contributions are tax-deductible.

I would like to see a posting from "India" that supports the tax-deductible claim. Otherwise, I'll cancel my order.
! Report Spam
I totally agree with the above complaints. I was also told this would be tax deductible and the Children's Hospital would receive the magazines I donated. I have faxed in my cancellation form as of today, 8/2/08 and I am telling you in writing I am cancelling my order of 8/1/08 effective today. I have executed this return within your time frame, so I will be expecting a total refund of $45. If UDS is not a scam, as you say, I expect to hear from you within the 10 days you claim to respond.

Total Scam - On 5/15 I wrote a check for some magazines for $87. I put a stop payment on it after doing some research (stop payment same day as check written). Today, I see that the scamming, fraudulent Urban Development Solutions copied my check and changed the amount to $107, using the same check # I originally wrote. Citibank - my bank - cashed the damn thing even though the stop payment for that check # was good until 11/2008. They said because it was a different amount it got through. Keep in mind Urban Development Solutions did not even copy my signature. They TYPED my signature and it still was cashed!. Total BS. I am trying to get it fixed now.

Urban Development Solutions is nothing but a scam, perpetuating the stereotypes it seeks to counter. Nice going, and all for a few bucks.

On 6/27/08 a gentleman knocked on my door. He was very cordial and neatly dressed in clothes that he was clearly uncomfortable in. He spoke about second chances. I listened to this man as he weaved an intricate tale of his life in prison and his hope to overcome his past and be a good provider to his two small children (he had pictures!). He pressed me to buy more, but the selection was sparse (lucky for me)and I ended up with a year's subscription to US Weekly to the tune of $119.00, which incidently, was more than the cover price. Just as he was preparing to leave, the sky opened up...the rain was torrential. He asked if he could stay until the rain subsided but was concerned that he was going to be late for his rendezvous at, of all places, a church, a mile up the road. And so, gladly, I stepped into the downpour, got in my car, and drove this man to his meeting place, but not before giving him my brand new umbrella and a quick wave and wish of good luck in his future endeavors. It has now been 5 months and I have yet to receive my first issue. For the past five months, I have also been trying to wipe the word SUCKER off my forehead...to no avail.

I too was scammed in July 2008 by a young man by the name of Armahn Thomas. I wrote a check for 87.00 and still have not received a single magazine five months later. I really wanted to believe that I was doing something good to help a young man straighten out his life and be a good father to his twins which were to be born in September.
I have tried to contact Urban Developments via phone and email unsuccesfully.

I just want to say that i worked for urban development soultions in when i started i thought that it was simply about selling magzines. but by me being young and in need for money i thought this would be a good experience because of traveling from state to state.Little did i know what went into this kind of thing in for me going door to door was new for me in uncomfortable.I always felt weird knocking on a strangers door to tell them things that was not true. In when i started alot of people knew what i was going to say before i said it i knew it wasnt for me at all.It always felt wierd to see people look at you like you was going to hurt them or rob them but how can you blame them when an unidentified stranger is at your door. I never did it to scam people i honestly did it to make money in i apologize that it happene to so many people i will never do it again.

Two girls from this organization came to my door a little while ago. They were nice and I wanted to help them out with their college pursuits. When they told me the cost would be $135 to renew 2 magazine subscriptions that I get regularly for about $15 a year I told them I was sorry that I had wasted their time. Not sure if it was a scam or not but there is no way that I would pay that much money. I have 4 of my own kids to put through college.

I really don't know much about the organization but I was referred to it by my dear friend who told me of her experience. She said it was fun, and she learned a lot, and made lots of money, at least 200$ a day and traveled. She said they people running everything took care of all her accommodations until she was making enough money to support herself. She told me all great things and that she joined for 6 months and made over 25, 000 throughout her experience. I don't know what to believe. Other blogs and complaint sites like this have people speaking in complete disagreement with what she told me. I was really thinking about joining. Does anyone have any feedback for me! I just turned 18 and am currently alone in the world as far as relationships and family and I really love to travel especially for free! So... if anyone thinks I should give it a try or stay away?... Any suggestions?

Hi author. I am a former employee of Urban Development and I witnessed first hand the manipulative ways of not only the CEO, but the managers and other employees as well. I worked for urban development in 2011. I come from a great suburban home and while my family does everything for me, I wanted to do for myself for a change. Due to the fact that I had to go through a background check I THOUGHT I would be working with individuals of class and integrity. Boy was I wrong. The guys there hounded me like I was a piece of meat. Unfortunately for them I am a lesbian and wanted absolutely no part of that. Even when I stated this, they still acted like dogs in heat and with no self control. Some of them were alcoholics, some of them did illegal drugs including crack (I can prove this) and it was extremely "ghetto". The managers and "drivers" who we're suppose to be of a higher character, constantly hit on me, discarding the fact that I was at least 17 years younger than them (I was 18) The men there are dressed to "look" like they have morals but I assure you, they don't. I have met felons, I roomed with a woman who was about 36. She was a felon and admitted to committing violent crimes. I was scared to be in a room with her. I witnessed her sleep with other employes for money. Why didn't I say anything? It's not my duty to play security. I had another roommate that did time in prison. She also sold weed and pills out of our room. Now about the lying, that was key. I was told to say I had a child, which I don't have, I was told to make up a sob story. I was told to say my mom died, that's not true. I have been to doors and personally heard people tell lies about their past. When I asked if I could mention that I was going to school (the truth) they said no. I told "the Jones's" my truth anyway. You are taught to scam them, make them feel sorry for you. This is something I refused to do. I hardly ever made quota and after a month of being "used" I decide to go home. The hotels were decent, some where very nice. You will get $5 in the morning and $5 in the evening. They drop you off in the middle of nowhere and you are to knock on doors for 6-8 hours. You do not get a permit. Just you and your ducat for 6-8 hours in the sun. You are encouraged to knock on doors with no soliciting signs by the managers, drivers and CEO. This I absolutely refused to do. I found it to be rude and inconsiderate. They make you work 6 days a week and if you don't make quota all 6 days, you will receive $20. $20 for working a 30-48 hour week. They might provide you a way home, they might not. When I was there, they owed an employee about $600. They told this employee they could have the money or they could provided them transportation home. They would not do both. They say prayers and god is a factor for them but how can you be so god loving know your ripping people off everyday by telling them lies? I was also told to target elderly people and young people. A "come back" for when an elderly person says "I'm sorry but I'm on a fixed income" would be "well thats great, I'm working on fixing my income as well". That is pathetic. The company says they do not allow or tolerate employees taking donations, which is true, they were very clear about this but employees still discarded this and take as many donations as they can. Especially when it's time to "jump" (Travel by van from one state to the next). I am now a member of the military and I feel sorry for the individuals who are still being brain washed. The CEO pretended to care. He would act like he cared about us all individually. Lies. He only cared that we were making him money.
His business practices were, unlawful, lacked ethics and any type of integrity. I would never buy anything from this company because the people they employ are not trustworthy at all. I have seen, with my own eyes, employees void out the order and keep the cash for them selves. That's my 2 cents. I will be glad to give further details or back up my claims with names, dates, places and more.

I hate to admit it but add me to the list of "Suckers".
