NetZero unauthorized charge

February 27 I was online checking my bank account online and noticed an authorization for $1.00 from UOL*Netzero never having delt with netzero I had no idea where these charges came from and made me very uneasy about how they got my credit card number I have had a paypal account for years so I never enter my card number in. Be careful and keep an eye on your account $1.00 might not be alot but if they do it 50 times it adds up.

NetZero Unauthorized billing

One way to prevent this kind of thing is to get a pre - paid credit card. Use it for your online purchases. There is no credit involved. . . It only has whatever cash you put on it, so just put enough cash to buy what you want and leave it empty when you don't need it.

Most hackers will test your card numbers by trying to authorize a small amount. . .

If it is compromised, the way mine was by net zero, which i just found out a few hours ago, you can easily cancel it and get a new one. If they try to take something off your card and you keep it empty when not in use, then they won't even get those test charges, which usually means someone (As in a hacker) is intending to go for broke on your card if they manage to get the test amount.

Here are a few links to some pre - paid options. . .

Http: / / prepaidvisa. Netii. Net

Or if you are looking for a broad selection to choose from. . .

Http: / / www. Creditcardinfo. Host22.com

Both are excellent resources.

Another nice feature is that you can have most of these cards send you an email notice to your cell phone, so you know what is happening at all times with your card.

NetZero Unauthroized Charges

I had canceled my netzero account over a month ago because I couldn't get my laptop to work with their service. The woman I spoke to kept trying to sell me stuff. I continued to say "No" and got very frustrated with her persistence. I was still saying "No" when the conversation was over and the account was finally canceled. I found a charge recently on my bank statement for $4.95 to UOL*NETZERO. I called them up and found that they had charged me for using Norton Internet Security after a 30 day trial. I never used their Norton software since it already came with my laptop a few years ago. I was able to get them to cancel the Norton charges and refund the $4.95 payment. They were able to confirm that I had not used there version of Norton.

I too am being charged over $11.00 each month on my credit card dispite the fact that I have called 3 times and ask to cancel. I would advise everybody to not get NETZERO ! Their service is so slow you can't use it and then they will not cancel. It is a rip-off !

NetZero Fraud against customers

I just signed up for their service yesterday. I phoned them with a question about my $14. 95 per month service. The man, who was from India added a bunch of services on my account without my knowledge. I have been all day trying to cancel them. All i get is the runaround. Even my emails are coming back undelivered and I am using their links. I will cancel my service but unfortunately I used a debit card and I will now have to cancel this card. This company is committing a fraud on a huge scale.

Beware of NetZero! I signed up for basic internet service with NetZero for a monthly fee of $10.95. After a few months, I called to cancel my NetZero service because I was moving out of state, and wasn't sure if I wanted to use NetZero in my new location. Three months later, I received a bill from NetZero for not only the three months that I hadn't used them, but they had doubled the price stating that it was for high speed internet and Norton Antivirus. I was outraged. To begin with, the very small town that I lived in when I had NetZero is not equipped for high speed internet, and this was the first time I had even heard of having Norton Antivirus. I called the NetZero number to rectify this matter. The number was answered by a person with a very heavy eastern Indian accent. They took my information, and told me they were transferring me to their customer service department, which I thought I was already talking to. While I waited, I was disconnected. I attempted this task twice, and both times I had to speak to a person with a very heavy eastern Indian accent, and both times I was disconnected. I emailed NetZero and told them what had happened. I received a reply stating that they couldn't cancel my account via an email, and that I needed to call the number that I had already called twice, and been disconnected. I emailed back and explained the problem again, and, as yet, have not received a reply.

I just noticed that NetZero charged my credit account $11.90 on August 27 and are charging the same again on September 27. I called and complained that I never opened up an account and do not want to. They said my brother must have used my credit card number. I asked if there was any usage and they said no, but he was just paying for the availability to use their service. I said Tony (Anthony), my brother, died July 6 so he wasn't using it. They said they would cancel the account, but would not reimburse my credit card account for August or September, which I think is unfair.

Used netzero for over 3 years, called to cancel account. Two months later account was slammed by company with so called back up service that I never authorized. Trying to cancel account when they slammed me was like pulling teeth. Will never recommend this company to any one. Beware of AOL type slamming from netzero. Very frustrating.

Well as I sit and fill this complaint out I have noticed... I Can NOT find an address on ANY correspondence, and also, I'm seeing where the only phone # provided is "for a nominal fee" - Guess I will also head over to BBB to file a report there.
I signed up for the free trial, my paperwork dated 5/4. On 6/3 I called to cancel and got the run around. I stated to the rep that I saw where they were trying to charge me, but that I was going to cancel & want a refund as I never did use nor do I plan to use it. I was told OK. SHe then quickly went into her "selling mode" and the catch to this 1 was I had a free trial until August. I repeated I wanted my credit and to cancel, never did use their service. She came back with yet another offer and I had to cut her off. Reiterated yet again the need for cancel & credit. She put me on hold, finally came back & said she could not issue Credit as the contract started on the 2nd not the 4th like my paperwork is dated. I stated I wanted to talk to supervisor and was put on hold for quite awhile (now this is where i start to ? my phone bill, am I being charged to call & cancel? ..."nominal fee") After explaining paperwork says 5/4, the supervisor agrees to credit my $14.95, BUT then tries to sell me something else. I told him their company needed to loose ALL my information, of which he said will be done.
VERY glad I never hooked my computer up, if they worked so hard at selling me more when I try to cancel, I can just imagine the junk it would have thrown on my computer.
I did receive my credit within 48 hrs, but when trying to find their info for this complaint form, I have realized they are quite sneaky in what little info they do provide. I will be watching my phone bill for my cancellation call to see what "nominal fee" I was charged.
Now heading to BBB to file complaint.

After cancelling my service with Netzero, they still charged my checking account for service I no longer had. The customer service representative said that I still had Virus protection with them. I told her clearly that the service was bad and I didn't want ANYTHING from them AT ALL. She still acted like she didn't understand and then I put my husband on the phone and he let her have it so that she admitted that I would NOT be charged for anything else and that the account was CLOSED. Netzero is a rip off and should be forced out of business.

I cancelled NetZero Wireless services last summer. Every time I tried to cancel this service, they would give me 3 months free. Finally I had enough and wanted to be rid of them. When I called, they said everything was fine and I was good to go. I would receive no more bills from them. Today I got a collection notice!

I called to cancel my subscription on April 4th. I was on hold for about an hour because everytime they answered, they would ask me email id, last four digits of my credit card and phone number and then they would transfer me to the cancellation department which never answered until I got disconnected and nobody would pick up and tell me that I would be assisted soon. I repeatedly called and requested to cancel my membership, but they would do the same and whatever I would say they would repeat the same phrase like if it was a recording that they would transfer me to the cancellation department ( even though that was the option I had pressed from the very beginning) and they would not care that I was going to be holding excessively again. Finally the fifth time I called I requested to talk to the supervisor he then said he had cancelled my subscription and that my cancellation number was [protected] and I asked whether he was sure I would not be charged, he said that I would not be charged and I would receive and email. I called the day after to verify and they said that I would not be charged at all and that no email would be sent...?... I asked the question several times. Today I saw my credit card statement and I was charged $9.95 for this months membership. The service on Netzero is awful. Customer service looks more like a recording than a person and they reallyn dont help. I spent an hour holding two days ago and I keep having a hard time trying to fix this. I will certainly not subscribe here again but I want my money refunded.

On Feb 27, 2006 I signed my mom up with this service using my credit card. Around Feb 2007, knowing that the service was coming to an end (I only paid for 1 year), I signed up with a different internet provider because netzero was constantly disconnecting and my mom was getting really frustrated with it. So we switched to USFAmily.net and have not had one problem with it. Anyway, I was on the netzero website May 2nd, 2007 and noticed that they had put my account as suspended. I was under the impression that if you dont sign up for another year, you dont get billed. Not the case. Now they are showing that I owe them money and have on my account history that they will be sending my account bill to collections. They tried to bill my credit card too without my consent. Thankfully I cancelled that credit card so they were unable to charge it. So I contacted them via email on May 2, 2007 and was told I need to verbally cancel it by phone. This is what the email said:

"We tried to bill your credit card for NetZero Platinum annual service on February 27, 2007, but the charge did not go through. Hence, your account has an outstanding balance of $119.40. Your NetZero Platinum service will be temporarily suspended.

In accordance with our service agreement, cancellations can be made only via telephone."

This is incredibly irresponsible because I never signed up for another year so why do I have to cancel something I didnt sign up for? Also, I tried to call them and sat on hold forever, so I hung up. I sent them an email back telling them that I didnt pay for another year, didnt sign up for another year and so I shouldnt have to cancel it.

I agree, I keep getting letters saying I am $29.95 past due.My account is billed to my MC every month, and it has not missed being billed. Also, the account number they list is not ours, and going to our account info at netzero, we are not in arrears.I tried calling but all you get is a recording.I wrote a nice letter explaining the situation, and apparently it was ignored, as I never recieved a reply, but did get a final notice yesterday.I am considering hireing a lawyer to handle this.

I just received my bank statement today in the mail. I noticed that the UOL Net zero has been in my statements & i don't remember ever charging anything from them. so i looked at my files & realized that i've been charged a monthly fee of $14.95/mo starting april of this year. this is really a fraud. i have not authorized any payment for this. i have my own internet server, so why do i have to use them! i'm very angry! i hope the FBI will read my complaint & be able to ask net zero to give me back my money - that's $14.95/mo x 9 mos. = $134.55! but i'm going to call my bank & tell them to stop pymt. i hope this people get caught!

You may want to fill out an online complaint with...Internet Crime Complaint Center ( IC3 ) home.
I did and went through the same thing as you. This will put a stop to theft by these crooks. The F.B.I. gets involved. The more complaints the better.

Thanks for the answer, PJ. That is exactly what happened with me. Glad I found your answer here, because I was able to go to the Classmates website and turn OFF the automatic renewal option before it was time for renewal. You saved me at least $20-30!

I had the same thing happen. After some investigation I found out that the pre-auth charge was for Classmates.com. Apparently when you sign up for their service you are enrolled for automatic yearly renewal. I called them & cancelled the service before my current subscription expired. They tell me the pre-auth will fall off my account. If you do not catch it early enough you will have a very hard time recovering the funds. It's all in the small print when you agree to classmates.com terms & conditions! Hope this helps!

NetZero Netzero a company of swindlers

Swindlers and thieves try to find new ways ripping off customers and here is what Netzero has designed which also many other DSL ISPs have employed. During subscription process they don’t mention certain fees, particular $150 cancellation fee. They mention it several days later after subscription is complete and a customer received DSL modem. To avoid responsibility they establish 30 day money back guarantee during which you can cancel subscription, which they put in front in their advertising. In other words a customer is notified about $150 cancellation fee after he has started using the service. Now if you disagree with cancellation fee you can cancel the service getting your money back, but you’d have to send equipment back to them for your own account and look for another DSL ISP therefore very few people really do it. The problem is that connection speed which cost money drops down below dial up right after that money back period is over so it does not make sense to use it. However if you want to cancel the service which you cannot use anymore you would have to pay $150 cancellation fee.

How many thousand people have been already ripped off and how many billions of $$ was stolen from us, who knows? And what this dysfunctional government does about it? NOTHING!

I cancelled my Netzero Platinum service of $9.95 as of March 2008 and switched to AT&T DSL that same month. After speaking with a male service rep, I cancelled everything and they told me I wouldn't be billed anymore. A month later, I'm billed for $4.95 for the account I cancelled under a different plan and I call again to cancel. The female service rep. then tells me that I will not be billed again and now, August 2008, I am billed for $8.85 for the same account with a 'now' added Norton service which I never agreed to. I distinctly told her that I wanted my account cancelled again! I want to know where they're getting this information to keep billing me despite the fact I've cancelled over 2 times! I have enoguh to pay for with phone and college tuition, I don't need their services which I've cancelled and they still keep billing my credit! I've filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Comsission online and I suggest you all do it as well so they'll stop this.

NetZero Scam charges!

I have had netzero for a few months and have had problems with the service. I called to cancel my service because I was tired of complaining. The young man on the phone said how sorry he was and offered me two free months service. He said they had been doing some work on the service and he really didn't want to lose me as a customer. Like an idiot I agreed. He said I would have another mail with the service too which I told him I didn't need. It ended up not being 2 free months but 24.99 extra for a megamail box that I didn't order or want and am still being billed 14.99 for the high speed dial up (what a joke). When I found out about the billing I was very angry and called them. they changed the 14.99 to 18.89 and didn't take the 24.99 off the bill like they said they would. I am livid! I have contacted a CLASS ACTION ATTORNEY to see if there is anything that can be done to end this wide spread abuse of the American public. If you are interested in this please e-mail me at: [protected]@aol.com Hopefully we can stop them. Don't think that just because it is a small about it doesn't matter, it does! From another site I found that Unitedonline who owns netzero has 366 employees and grossed $167, 520, 000 last year. I'm tired of having my pocket picked, how about you?

I had been used broadband for many years. Last month, I received my phone bill with extra $37 from netzero. I called them and they claimed I had ordered the dial-up service two months ago. Since I had never order or needed the dial-up service, I asked them if they can tell me who and how a person open a account without my knowledge. They cannot tell me anything on this matter. Anyone who know your name, address and home phone number can open a account on behave of you, then use the service and charge to your phone bill. After two hours on the phone with them, they finally agree this is a fraudulent account and cancel the account. From all these reading, I will double check my phone bill to make sure they had stop billing me. We also call the phone company(at&t) to reprot the abuse. It turned out at&t provide a service that would blocked any thrid party to charge to phone billed directly. We signup immediately. With 3 sons go thru school years, I am sure my name, address and home phone is not a secret.

NetZero Net Zero's &free& trial isn't free!

Signed with Net Zero for a one-month allegedly free trial. Credit card charged immediately. Within days, it was clear the service was poor (slow access when I was able to access their servers at all; very slow downloads). I called to cancel the account. (You MUST call.) Their rep tried to retain me as a customer by offering me several more months of allegedly free service! I declined. He eventually gave up trying to sell me more service and said he'd cancel my account. I told him my credit card had ALREADY been charged for that allegedly free month, and he said it would receive a credit on the next statement. No credit was ever received, despite my sending letters for several months notifying NetZero that it had charged me for a FREE month.

BEWARE NetZero's offer of a free month's service.

I just discovered that the same thing has happened to me! I will contact my credit card company and refuse to pay the bill. After all, the credit card company is MY agent, not Netzero's.

NetZero Unauthorized Charges, Horrible Customer Service

My husband and I live in Japan (military). I needed service for 2 weeks (home for the holidays) and spoke to NetZero reps. I was told it would be no problem . I signed up for a free service but was instructed to give my credit card info. I used this service exactly 3 hours in 1 day and it was horrible. I called to cancel and was told no charges wiould be made to my credit card. Well in January I was charged $9.95-after speaking to several rude people and being placed on hold forever (I was back in Japan and the time difference kills us) I hung up...but a few days later my card was refunded. But then in February to my suprise I was charge $25.00 for a cancellation fee ...for a free service? After talking to 4 people and 45 minutes later I finally spoke with a floor manager who again told me I used this account for 3 hours and I said it sucked...but he did say give him 48 hours and my credit card would not be charged again. I told Mark if it was I would get a lawyer and find more people who have hade the same/similar problems and do a class action suite. We will see if I get charged next month-until then...

We cancelled our Netzero about a year ago becuase it sucked and everytime we'd call for customer service, we got someone who barely spoke English and we couldn't understand them at all - they would try to get us to agree to some additional service and not address the purpose of our call at all. After several months, I realized that we were still being charged $4.95 per month! I called and again got someone I couldn't understand etc... It was so frustrating. He agreed to refund $9.90. I said "No, I want a full refund of all the months you have been charging me $4.95 with no authorization." Another representative called me back on a Sunday and offered me a reimbursement of half of the charges, stating that I agreed to continue Norton Anti-Virus charges. Again, I said "No, I didn't agree to anything but only asked for a full cancellation of thier services" and told them I would be contacting the Better Business Bureau. I did exactly that. I made my complaint and the BBB contacted Netzero for a response. The response was that they "didn't have my account information in their system and that I needed to submit my credit card number." I couldn't believe it - my rebuttal was not nice, and I refused to give the credit card number - they should have my "closed account" information by my phone number. My last response from them, was for a "full refund", but they claimed that I agreed to a "back-up service" and the only reason they were agreeing to fully refund me, was becuase this "back up service" had never been used by me. They claimed they were refunding me out of courtesy! Since I received a full refund, I cannot send another rebuttal, but boy am I furious! Does Netzero think we are all idiots? If Netzero is doing this to you, please contact the BBB - you can find the BBB on line and complete your complaint. Really, the BBB needs to know what's going on. ~Kari in South Dakota

Received notification that NetZero is going to further penalize those of us who pay their monthly charge by automatic electronic transfer from bank accounts, by increasing fee's, for an already problematical level of internet services. This is an absolute ridiculous charge to begin with, as all other companies, that I do business with, generally prefer electronic transfers and add NO EXTRA FEES.

NetZero does not appreciate the fact that many of us do not use regular credit cards, on line, because of security issues, electing instead, to use "One Time Virtual Card" accounts (which are obviously not appropriate for monthly billings). I would certainly not consider their offer to pay by the year, given their "poor track record" in refunding canceled services.

The only reason Net Zero has chosen to force the use of Credit Cards, by penalizing Electronic Transfer Customers, is it makes it much more difficult to cancel Net Zero service, without incurring additional expense on the part of the Credit Card user. (This accusation is verifiable by the number of complaints against United OnLine's companies including NetZero.

NetZero's ads are deceptive, concerning customer satisfaction, because I have talked, personally, to dozens and none are happy with anything about NetZero. When they try to cancel service, they are met with obnoxious customer service reps, of foreign extraction, who make it a gauntlet to cancel... I know, I tried this yesterday and gave up after an hour of transfers and arguments with people who spoke only "broken English" at best. I want NetZero to either straighten up lousy service and billing practices or at the very least, make it easy to cancel accounts without hassles and added charges.

Signed: Dan B. Dickey, another dissatisfied NetZero Customer!

I contacted Net Zero to find out what was going on with my account and yes it has been paid. I was experience difficulty with the dialing process is not going through. I contacted Customer Service for them to tell me that I need to contact Technical support which would cost me $1.95 per minuet. I told them I would not contact the Technical Service for them to charge me and guess what I have no choice. What a rip off to want to charge me for their problems.

NetZero Belled after cancellation

NetZero

I cancelled my account with NetZero about two months ago, or so I thought. I was looking at my account today and noticed that they had billed me again. After a long process of trying to get through to them via telephone, I cancelled again. They said that they cannot return the money they took from me even though they could see that I haven't used their service. To make a long story short, I would not recommend NetZero to anybody. In fact, I would strongly urge people not to use them at all. I liken them to a parasite, and feel that the US Attorney should investigate them for fraud and theft.

Netzero kept billing me after I cancelled my account for some security service that I never asked for.. I had same thing happen with some guy with broken english telling me it wwas free. I flatly refused that offer and said I want nothing but to" cancel" everything with "NETZERO" ..They charged my CC for 3 months before I found out... I will see if they are going to do the right thing. Best thing to do is not use Netzero at all. Go with a local service

I am going through the call and cancel thing now.
I called them in January '08 and what they didn't tell me, was that after giving me the whole sales pitch of you will get two months free just for being with them, and they would cancel my account, I get billed for the high speed accelerator that I deleted off of my system two months later.

They didn't tell me that they would start billing me again, usually when you call to cancel, that means CANCEL! Not start it up again, and be billed for the high speed separately.

So I call them again, and they give me the sales pitch again, and I could barely understand the guy speaking his version of English, and I ask him, can't you just cancel the service permantly, cause I don't want it anymore, and I deleted everything off my PC, cause I don't want the two free months?
He told me flat out no.

He said that I have to call two months later again, and tell them I no longer want the service, or they will bill me for the high speed, again.

So this is how they get to start billing you again.

Now I've called to cancel, and have to call two months later to cancel, again, and this better be the last time.

NetZero is the perfect name for these guys, try to cancel them, and you'll get ZERO.
