University of Phoenix [UOPX] misleading information

The University of Phoenix talked me in to re-enrolling in their MFT Program. I told them I didn't think I could do the course work because I was still attending the University of Nevada Reno and working full time. I also commute one hour each way to work. They assured me I could try it for a while and it it was too much I could withdraw. Part way into the semester I could see I wasn't going to be able to do the program. I withdrew and then the letters, phone calls and harassment started. Although I received no credit, no school books and nothing but a lesson from the "School of Hard Knocks". I owed them over a $1, 000 for the use of the on line books and the portion of time I spent attending the class (probably 3 classes). I have been paying $30 a month towards the bill, but that is not enough to satisfy them so they have turned me over to collections and I am getting harassment phone calls. I have 28 Master Level credits from BYU and UNR and none of them were accepted by UOP. My adviced to anyone considering going to UOP is run as fast as you can to some other school.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] terrible experience

I was a student of University of Phoenix. It began when I was pressured to sign up, instead of just calling for information as I first intended. I should have never signed up for this school. When I wanted to leave the school because I felt that I wasn't learning anything, they dared to fine me over a thousand dollars for classes I only took for a couple of weeks. Now they're threatening to turn over that amount, which takes me at least two months to save up due to a set budget(I live by myself), to their corporate collections office. Why would any legit campus have a collections office? And why aren't they being honest about my money?

I mean that I had 1100 dollars saved up for my Boston trip later this year, but I sent it in cash (In a panic) because of a threatening letter they sent me, threatening to turn my money over to collections. I got a harassing phone call at work from the school (Namely a 'Lynn') threatening to turn over my account in 72 hours. I kept telling them that I sent the money last month and there is no way that I owed them anything.

I'm suspecting that someone stole my money, but I doubt that anyone will actually confess to it. Although they claim that they would fire someone who did that, I don't think they would. I'm greatly upset and worried about my credit. I'm even more worried that they will continue to harass me.

They stole my money and lied about me not paying them. This I am certain of.

I just want to say to always send a check or money order in the mail, after you have made a copy of it. Never send cash to anyone in the mail. Unfortunately, there are thieves at any college or business and they won't think twice about stealing off of someone.

I am glad to hear that someone is suing UOP. I found the whole experience at UOP to be a nightmare. I worked with peers who could not spell or finish a proper sentence. I am not saying I am perfect but I enjoy working with students that are true graduate school material.

Ellen, I hope you get every dime that is owed to you. Good Luck!

I have quite a long story - and not the time to type the whole thing out. What I will tell you is that I am currently seeking legal counsel to deal with the problems that UoP has caused me. I paid off my student loans (from my UoP attendance) in June of this year. I went to the UoP in 2004. Shortly after my student loans were completely paid, checked my credit report and saw that there was a collections statement from UoP. Assuming this was simply an error that they would remedy I called them and kindly asked that they remove their entry from my credit report. The guy I spoke with (John - who was very rude) refused to listen to me and just kept saying, "You owe the money." I explained that my student loans were paid in full and he said that it didn't matter. He told me that they had to send the money back to my lender. I called my lender and they said that they have no record of UoP ever returning money to them. The lender asked me to get proof from UoP that they actually sent the money back to someone - so I called them back and as you might guess - UoP said that they didn't need to prove it and that the 'burden of proof' lies with me and that I would have to work it out with my lender. So now I'm quite angry because I do not owe them a dime (that's what student loans are for) - they have an entry on my credit report for several thousands of dollars...and I'm out those several thousands of dollars because I paid off my student loans. I have tried multiple times with them - kindly asking that they remove it from my credit report - to no avail. So...as my father said - I will now find an attorney and sue them for every nickle allowable under the law. This is NOT a frivolous lawsuit. I am trying to buy a new car - and would like to buy a home in about 3 months but will have higher interest rates because of their fraud.

Having a great "experience" is not the same as learning, which the UoP does not help with. They want you to post "I am here" twice a day, three times a day, and walk away.

I dont think anyone can make you do something you do not want to do. To state such is not cool because at the end of the day the choice is yours about whether you want to go to school or not. Please do not blame others for your faults. Take the responsibility for your actions but to say that others did such and such is outright wrong. I am a student at the school and have had a great experience just like the other hundreds of thousands of students.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] bad experience

This school is charging money for a diploma, not for teaching; I want a refund and an entity that would make them do the job they ought to do instead of just taking the money from people with the promise of a piece of paper.

For people that don't care about learning this its the ultimate dream; but I want to learn, I want to know, I want good service and help, guidance, be able to remember and talk about it in a nice professional environment.

University of Phoenix have not idea of any of this and they took my money.

Even the Department of education is unable to do anything...

If anybody have this kind of experience with this university, please contact me, I need more people to take this to court.

I'm a service connected disabled Army vet and i got my gi bill Through the army. When University of Phoenix Would Two assignments I would have a question and it would take 24 hours for them to reply Or even get it. By that time The assignment that was given would be late And I would get a bad grade because of it.

I just finished my first year at UOP, and quit 2 weeks ago when I found out they were charging me almost 20, 000 a year for my associates on line, after they told me my whole degree would cost 20, 400. They did the same to my best friend, she found out during her first block of classes and told me. We both quit. Charging almost 40, 000 dollars for an associates degree I am earning from home is highway robbery. I even had a teacher who docked major points for a spelling mistake, but when she typed her discussion questions, she made mistakes too. I won't recommend this school to anyone, ever.

I currently attend university of phoenix in an online undergrad program. I started attending their in march 2010. I have had issues with getting help from anyone other than the counselor. I had attended local a community college and completed an associates degree from their. I transferred to a local state university for a year before started at university of phoenix. I had the hardest time trying to get my transfer credits waived. Has anyone else had a problem with this? I also had a prof which did not give me all the points for my final grade causing me to be put on probation. I tried to contact the prof multiple times with no response. I also tried to get my adviser to help me only to be told by him that there's nothing he can do. I have never had so many problems trying to get help for anything in the past. With university of phoenix I seem to not be able to get anyone to help me or at least give me a valid explanation. If anyone can help me by giving me some kind of advise as to what I can do. I'm not sure if I have a valid legal lawsuit but I am willing to do whatever it takes to get help with this. Please feel free to contact me my email is Mary_587@yahoo.com

I just finished my Masters at UOP, and I think I learned more then I did attending a traditional university for my undergrad. The work at UOP was not easy either. I had to write many papers and work on many team projects. As for financial aid, I only had 1 problem at UOP, but I ran into many problems at the state university I attended for my undergrad.

I just faxed uop my taxes signed today. I havent taken any classes or received any money from them. I had my suspicions of an on line degree. I went with it because the enrollment counselor stayed on my back and quite honestly it seemed to be a way to earn a degree while still maintaining my busy schedule. This is the first of these types of comments i've heard about uop and im wondering is it too late for me to cancel the process.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] harassing phone calls

I made the mistake of completing an online info request for the university of phoenix atlanta campus. I have asked them on six occasions to stop calling me at both my home and cell phone. I have even called and asked they delete me from their database. This is all to no avail. What part of do not call do they not understand? I would never agree to attend their university. Why don't they post their fees, tuition, etc. On their website. When i asked the representative, she wouldn't answer my question. Why not? Sounds like a scam to me.

If i had a wild guess, they probably have exorbitant fees and tuition. Do yourself a favor and pick a reputable college.

I am contacting the accreditation board and file a complaint. Not that it will do any good but at least i will have voiced my complaint.

I feel the same way. What a mistake to request anything online. I work alot so i am never home. They call my home 10 times a day my wife has told them to stop calling and they do anyway. Then they start calling my cell phone right after she tells them no more calling. I dont know what it will take either and i hate to have to pay to change my phone number on their behalf. So people do not contact the university of pheonix unless you want them to call 10 times a day.

University of Phoenix [UOPX] - not returning financial aid dispersed to them

My husband and I attend 1 class at the University of Phoenix online program. We filled out financial aid and they received dispersments in the amount of $14, 000 on April 10th. My husband decided schooling did not fit into his schedule at this time because of the demands and withdrew from the program. I was unsatisfied with their MBA program so I transfered...

University of Phoenix [UOPX] fraud and scam!

I took one class from UOP, then had to withdraw due to my job. I was putting in way to many hours at work to handle even one class. I was asked to rejoin by one their representatives 6 months later. I tried again, but due to my project load I had to withdraw. UOP did all of the financing for the classes.

In the end, they said I owed 376 dollars, and I had 4k in loans. I said there was no way. I protested this amount since day one. I called them on several occasions about the balance, and they said it was correct. I protested this through the credit bureau numerous times. They ended up charging off the balance, and making my credit even worse than it was.

I admit I didn't have perfect credit, but this probably cost me thousands in interest. Not only that, but I was paying interest on the full amount they received from the government. After 3 years of payments, they sent back 2419 dollars to the government saying that there was a mistake they found during an audit.

When I contacted UOP about this, they said that I was lucky they even did an audit, and I was still responsible for the interest since I was still enrolled. I said I withdrew, and haven't taken a class in over 3 years. The bean counter said I still had a web page.

I said so that entitles you to keep money that isn't yours, and he replied well in fact it does. I said so there is nothing you are going to do, and he replied no we do not have to, and by the way you still owe us 276 dollars? What do I do? I doubt hiring a lawyer would be cost effective.

I was contacted las Friday by my finandcial advisor to tell me that I had insufficient financial aid, and I owe UoP $1225, which must be paid before I can resume classes. I was appalled since they have an advisor for everything, and I am the student dependent on their knowledge and expertise.
I was talked to and treated disrespectfully, condescendengly, and made to feel like I was less than a worm. The complaints I have read are very discouraging; however, I am not going to give up. I am going to register complaints against UoP to anyone that will listen. I will go to the press, CNN, and maybe even Fox. I am mad as hell, and I am not going to take it! Remember, there is power in numbers; that's why they (UoP) can get away with all of this horrible stuff. Stand together; go to the press; register complaints with BBB, and the U.S. Board of Education. If enough people speak, they will have to listen.

FEED BACK IS WELCOMED!

Can anyone recommend a lawyer who has file suits against UOP? Our class composed of four people was charged with plagiarism. As a class we submitted a faculty complains with over 20 pages of documentation. To our dismay the University investigation found our class a whole guilty. The investigation is bias and one sided not taking into account the class concerns. Now we need professional legal assistance. please contact me at mv_mere@yahoo.com

University of Phoenix [UOPX] scam and cheating!

You can pick up an Official Withdrawl Form at axiafaw.phoenix.edu, you must be enrolled to get this form. Trust me, no one wants you to find it and you will search and ask over and over again before someone gives you the link! If you are like me and you are in your first week and red flags are going off all over the place telling you to get the hell out of there... DO IT. I just paid $500+ dollars for eight days which consisted of about twenty emails to other students, four responses from BOTH my Instructors and six homework assignments! You will pay for each week you are in attendance that you do not get out! Get the form and fax it ASAP to the fax number your Financial Advisor gave you in their Welcome email. Follow up, cancel your loan agreements directly with the lender and DO NOT WAIT.

This is the biggest scam in the USA in my opinion. You will pay and pay and pay if you stay. The education is YOU teaching YOURSELF, and the Instructors don't answer your questions in a timely manner. In AXIA you will you will notice right off that many of the students (not all) cannot spell and know nothing about grammar. (Even the course material has misspellings and grammatical errors.) It is hard to believe that some of these people graduated from High School. I was an A Student in High School and I took a year of College at the Community College with a 4.0 GPA. There are no entrance requirements in AXIA and I was told by my enrollment counselor that those people are graded on IMPROVEMENT?

I called a top notch college and asked if their credits transfer in, I was told that they do because the school is Regionaly Acredited, but if you have taken classes that do not apply to another schools degree program... you are wasting your time and precious money. The truths IS you need a school that is NATIONALLY and Regionally and there is a difference. Even a very good school's Career Development Program will tell you that many employers DO NOT WANT UOP grads! Call around and ASK, I did! These enrollment counselors are slick and they are paid by their enrollment numbers. I refuse to even talk to my counselor because he is dogging me to stay! $520.00 for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

RUN RUN RUN WHILE YOU CAN. SOMETHING IS VERY VERY WRONG WITH THIS SCHOOL. I have spent an entire day trying to get someone to acknowledge that I am WITHDRAWN. And... DO NOT go to class and get logged in by the computer if you are wanting out, you will PAY for that too!

Tell everyone you know to stay away from this school! I am just trying to keep someone else from the same thing. They will delay and delay and delay in telling you where to get the form so you will have to pay more. Get out while you can.

Today I am writing complaint the University of Phoenix want be advise to anyone about this school before you are enrolling with them. My big mistake I request information about this school online, I am full time working, I have no time for school so I decided take online class, so I went online and did not do any research about University of Phoenix, so I requested information. I live in Minnesota, one of counselor call me. His name MatthewSpoden, seem like he very nice guy, call me everyday at work, my cell, until I enrolled the class, so I enrolled online class, I go into online class room, any teacher told me or anyone has post message in the forum, honestly, I don't know what the heck are they teaching, I am Vietnamese and I am planing take AS Information Technology, hope when I finish the school I will have bright future, yeah right, I am so busy with working I did not have time post a message with not relate to what should I study, Mr. Matthew Spoden call me Monday, Tuesday of the first week, and tell me I have post message, day of third online class he did not call me, so a week has pass, I decide drop out cause if I continuous not work for me and I have no idea what are they teaching. Guess what, I received the bill for $524.00 only attend 1 week, also I received second statement $304.00, make me confuse, so I contact Financial Aid Office, all I got transfer me around enrollment office until I speak up I drop out the class not new student and the representative said. Oh! So could not get hold of the Financial Aid person, I don't paid the bill yet cause I request them copy of how much reward I have been approve for the FAFSA, they don't sent me nothing and planing put me on collection, so I received two page letter from Financial Aid Office and she said I must responsible for 25% tuition cost when I attended 1st week of the class and posted message in the class rom. So I totally understand now why the counselor nice call me posting message everyday for two of first day of the week . So my finally advise to anyone, before you are planning register this school, be careful and think twice before you do it, I research online and a lot people complaint with this school, here my advise:

READ THE SCHOOL POLICY BEFORE YOU ARE ENROLLMENT. ASK YOU COUNSELOR HOW MUCH YOU ARE APPROVE FOR THE FINANCIAL AID. THE BALANCE REMAINED THEY HAVE TO SEND BACK TO YOU.

ASK ABOUT CANCELLATION POLICY.

TAKE MORE TIME RESEARCH THE SCHOOL, ONLINE CLASS OR CAMPUS GOOD FOR YOU.

I DON'T THINK THIS SCHOOL WILL HELP OUT PEOPLE INSTEAD TRY TAKE MONEY FROM STUDENT.

BE CAREFUL UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX.

I agree with the MBA Student at UOP. I have been attending UOP for the last 3 years and I am in my last semester I will be graduating with a BS in Business Management and I worked very hard for my degree. When you are in college you are supposed to be an adult so of course it is going to be a lot of learning on your own. My instructors have always answered all of my questions in a timely manner. I even had one professor call my sell phone to see if I was okay because I wasn't posting enough in class that week. I have had no problems with financial aid. Unlike my local community college where I have to leave messages with FA and no one calls me by I can always get a hold of my financial advisor and they do return phone calls. As the previous person said no one can take away the hard work I put in to receiving my degree from UOP online.

I don't know what to do either. My husband was just about to start the state college when a friend referred him to UofP and he changed at the last minute. They said the pell grant money was on the way in 3-5 days and he got full financial aid and student loan. He was doing everything right, attending and posting in the classes every time he was supposed to. He even saved the pages to show he was there because I insisted. Now the money hasn't shown up and he is being autodropped from 1 class for not showing up for a week when we have proof he was there and his posts are still up. He was so sure this was a good idea and literally on the last day possible for him to transfer his financial aid is when he did it, they were in such a hurry to get it done before the end of that day. All I think is that he could be taking classes at the University in the next town and it would all have been ok, now I am scared that we have been duped and that they will prevent him from even being able to transfer in the spring. I don't know what to do or who to contact. I'm so distraught and I'm 6 months pregnant. I feel worried that they have ruined his chance at a degree. And now we will be in debt for the classes he's in with nothing to show. If you find out what to do or who to call please email me at soulfire76@gmail.com

Logicandreason, that is a funny choice for an online id, considering...

Ksmith made perfect sense, even if the original complainant did not. Interestingly enough, you seem to believe that poor communication skills can obliterate the point being made, and yet your post is also full of errors and poor choices in language. Going through points of "advice" which are little more than thinly veiled insults to those who have a different opinion than yours, I fail to see how accomplishing these will keep a person from getting scammed. Knowing what you want from your education, needs, all of that cannot protect you from those who may be trained to prey on these very points. Doing your research will only take you so far if you don't know where to find the information or exactly what you're looking for. Life is unfair, and there are no perfect people, but I cannot imagine how that would ever be an excuse to turn a blind eye to scams or poor behavior. I'm sure that wouldn't hold a lot of water for you if you were to be taken, but, of course, you must consider yourself above that and feel that it could never happen to you. Perhaps I spoke too soon about there being no perfect people out there? In any case, it would be a wise life lesson for some of you to realize that mocking others, and resorting to foul language and put-downs can only undermine your credibility.

That's not to say that I believe the UoP is running a scam or that there is anything wrong with the school. I have no idea and am on a fact-finding mission myself. Sifting through the complaints can be difficult since finding one story with holes doesn't necessarily mean there aren't real issues to be found. Unfortunately, "you get what you put into it, " works better as a nice adage than a world-worn truth.
Sometimes you work hard and you get fools gold, instead. I hope that this isn't one of those times. I'm off to keep looking. Good luck all.

I'm a student at this school. I totally disagree with you. I have had a wonderful group of people keep me updated and excellant teachers. Online school is a great option for those who work full time, which I do, and have a family, which I do, and have an all around busy life. It is the same with anything in life. . . know what your getting into. I highly reccomend this school to anyone. You get what you put into it. They are helping tons of people who are unable to attend a college campus.

That made no sense Ksmith. The person in this article is complaining about a university. They did not research, they cant type or use grammar for ###. They probably have no hope in the real world. Yes, UOP is way to advanced for them, ADULT SCHOOL at your local recreation center. AWWWW I hope I didn't hurt the persons feeling, if they can dish it, they should be able to take it.

Here is my advice and I think it almost covers any issue anybody faces in collegiate studies.
~Know what YOU want from YOUR education?
~Know what your educational needs are? (flexible schedule, more hands on, etc)
~Understand your true motivation, and driving force.
~Consider some of the road blocks or obstacles that may come up, think of plans to work through them, and think which School can better adjust for it.
~Research on your own all the Financial Options that are available to students. (Pell Grants, Call Grants, Stanford Loans, Privet Loans, GI BILLS and Scholarship.) And understand the implications and benefits of each one.
~### what your education and the POSSIBILITY of a better future is really worth to you.
~Talk to your friends and family about creating a net of supporting you in the time you will be going to school.
~Make sure the school has been around for a while and is accredited.
~BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY TAKE YOUR EDUCATION IN YOUR OWN HANDS, DON'T LOOK FOR LAZY/EASY WAY OUTS, TAKE YOUR EDUCATION SERIOUS, DO REAL RESEARCH, and DO THE INTELLIGENT THING THAT ALSO FEELS RIGHT.
Lastly, do not expect there not to be unforeseen obstacles or things that happen which may seem unfair. Life is unfair, schools are not run or employed by saints/perfect people.
Good Luck

My experience with UOP online is nearly the same. I have been charged for tuition and fees for a refund that was male to to the student loan lender...how this resulted in a charge to my student account doesn't even make sense, i never received the funds but I am somehow personally responsible. This is obviously a major scam operation aided by Sallie Mae and ACS.

I think you commenters are EXTREMELY rude and arrogant. This person speaks English as a second language and your responses are completely uncalled for. How would you feel if you went to school in another country that used a native language that was different from your own and were made fun of and called a [censored]? Then again, this doesn't surprise me... I have noticed that UoP people seem very ignorant, so your bigotry comes as no surprise to me.

I am an MBA student with UOP. My company sent me there. Keep in mind that the school is designed for working adults with an education model geared to working adults. They teach application over theory. You are not buying a degree. What you are doing is taking concepts and relating them to real world scenarios. It seems that the degree may be 'bought' because there are no test involved. What is actually being taught are the skills necessary to be productive in the workforce and advance your career. Companies are addressing skills gaps within their workforce. Companies are trying to do more with less. How do they do this? They need individuals trained to have better communication skills, collaboration abilities, critical thinking and problem solving, information utilization, and adaptability and agility. The university's adult learning model addresses all of these skills gaps. Many companies (and students) don't understand what is being taught and how it relates to their jobs. If you want to be a future leader (the future is approaching quickly - baby boomers are retiring and many jobs will be available), UOP will give you the skills you need. You'll never take away the hard work I've put into my degree. I'll fight you all day if you try!

University of Phoenix [UOPX] - charged for classes I never attended!

I signed up with a rep named Micheal Dudding. There were some issues with the number of credits I could bring in and my financial aid limit. We were working through these issues. I was to start classes the following week. Mr. Dudding and the financial aid advisor called me and told me I should log in to get familiar with the site. Play around with the way...

University of Phoenix [UOPX] - unethical business practices!

I just want to urge anyone who is considering the University of Phoenix to please reconsider. First and foremost, the extremely high cost of tuition at the University is not a fair exchange for the subpar education you receive. You will be paying for shorter classes and peer learning, and from the research I've done, most employers do not recognize a degree...

University of Phoenix [UOPX] inadequately specified online java editor & program development environment

A grossly unfair, non-specified software development environment for online sw development classes, i. e. online java (a computer language) courses.

After having recommended your school, I am extremely disappointed in your inability to specify a general online development environment (for those students who don't have an sw online development java editor & java (idep) interactive development environment, available elsewhere). students are “hung out to dry”, i. e. no support! by you, not specifying a specific java editor (computer language, here java) in lieu of an english (natural language text editor) i. e. notepad.

Math is not english! in notepad a minus-sign, a hyphen, & negative-sign, all print as the same character (i. e. there's no need to distinguish). whereas in math/java a minus-sign, subtract-operator, or a logic not-operator each must be treated differently.in the absence of you not specifying a java editor, java students who choose notepad (an english language text editor) are in a “world of hurt”. therefore; “flash, you cannot safely use a natural language editor, for java source preparation! for each sw development course, you must specify the sw editor & the idep (interactive development environment platform). I know of three students who dropped a java class, probably because of this problem.
