Universal Merchant Services / Early Termination Fees
I signed up with a neighbor that was a local representative with Universal Merchant Services-Transfirst last May 2008. I was promised excellent credit card processing fees with this great service. I discover quickly that I was lied to. When I asked for documentation and copies of my contract I would never get a response. I tried on numerous occasions to contact my local representative and they never returned my phone calls. After nearly a year of frustration, I closed out my merchant account. I contact the company via fax and certified mail and still no response. I contacted them by phone and they said they would get back to me with the documentation and still no response. I received a bill in the mail today indicating that I owed $540.00 for an early termination fee, I was expected to pay the bill within ten days and I am only allowed to contact them in writing. They have made sure that non phone numbers appear on any of their correspondence so it makes it difficult to contact them. They have threatened to send me to a collection agency if I don't pay the fee, yet they don't feel they should be required to provide any documentation or even a simple phone call to discuss the situation. I would seriously refrain from doing business with these people.
