I received a call today from a lady named Jenie Pastor stating that this was a 'last ditch effort' to contact a neighbour regarding an 'urgent' 'personal' matter. She refused to state any details including the company name, reason or anything else. She made it sound like I would be doing my neighbour a great favor by helping her contact them. The call came from a Towson number [protected]. She gave a return number of [protected]. A search of the web revealed that this call came from your URS.

My phone number is on a no call listing and this type of unsolicited call is clearly unethical and under handed.

These are statuatory violations of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. Each violation is $1000. Please research the laws and contact an attorney in your area. 15 USC 1692 is the law reference.

You know what else is under-handed? Your neighbor breaking a contract and not paying their delinquent account. I'm sure URS would probably not call you if it was illegal to do so. I'm betting they have a few lawyers who let them know what they can and cannot do. All you have to do is let them know that you do not wish to give your neighbor's information out to them, and tell them to never call you again. Yes, it's that easy.

I have a very common name, I get these unsolicit calls rather often searching for others. Unless the company is reasonably sure I am the person they are looking for they should not be able to call me. Calling a neighbor, friend relative is also a violation. Please don't think that these people follow the law, they live in the dark and grey areas, often the 1 in a 100 chance that someone will report them and they will get a $1000 fine is worth it to them to get their collection off the books. Also be aware that many of these agencies are buying old and often settled debt in the hope of collecting on from people who have forgotten or simply don't want to be bothered with the harrassments. I got calls from a defunct store trying to collect on a paid in full account. Luckily I am a pack rat and had saved the receipt. It turns out a company had bought their "books" in a bankruptcy sale and was trying to "shakedown" old customers.

WOW! The lack of intelligence from individuals with incorrect answers is priceless. I started doing research in regards to people giving bogus and false info in regards to collections and it is not surprising to seek the lack of intelligence here. First off read the laws, understands that it is not illegal to call your neighbor and also the no call list does not apply to collection company's. Also understand many people are struggling to pay the bills where some are just deceitful debt dodging idiots that make life hard for the rest of the people in this economy. If you really want to get a laugh look at how many people "lie" or should I say, misconstrue what was said on the calls, the FTC shows the facts. oh, and Tammy Williams, you don't have to create a bogus story to act like your a victim when it's not a true story at all, to many want to be victims already. Pay your bills.
