I contacted this company by email and received a rude, blunt and unhelpful response from Peter Smith.
I pointed out his attitude and manner were unprofessional and this is the reply I received.

I had an unfortunate experience working with TIm Burchell and ukprivateinvestigators.com UKPI
he has taken the deposit and and disappeared, four weeks later after chasing him 20 time, he said that he is waiting for the rest of the money from me, but he never even started the investigation. I refused to pay becase there was nothing he has done, he then refused to return the deposit saying that he wasted his time! DO not even think about working with ukprivateinvestigators.com

They have tricked me to pay them for extra services, but it was a bulls*t. They just sent me some credit check report...?
Why do I need it, you promised a full report on my ex!

I have received the information, but I am not entitled to the 30 day money back guarantee as the information was provided to me after the 30 days. I just hop that the trace information is correct.
UK Private Investigators - UKPI - Tim Burchell - Took my money but did not provided me with the information
I can't believe I was so foolish to get involved with this company. I emailed him to trace my cousin, two days later he sent an email saying has traced her. I found it strange there was no invoice, I can't explain it but my gut feeling told me it was a scam, so I delayed payment, then he threatened to take me to court so I thought he must be genuine. So i sent him a cheque, he claimed he did not receive it, he didn't even wait a week to receive the cheque in the post and sent papers to court.
I immediately put the money into his account plus the court fee. So far I have not receive the trace information which I paid for.
Now I come across a site (http://uk-private-investigators.pissedconsumer.com) where many people claims he scammed them and realise my gut feeling was telling me the truth.
I got my friend to call up and give a fake name and a fake trace to see if its a scam, she told me no one was answering the phone for several days.
Hes not replying to my emails, or text messages.
Its my own fault for not checking out this company and reading the reviews in the first place.
Please do not use this organisation.
I lost £170 of my hard earn money to this crook, please don't make the same mistake as me. Others have lost thousands so Im a little grateful that I didn't loose as much as them.
Please give me advise on how I can get his licensed revoked.

We would just like to thank Robert Harris (Robert Singer) of thelocaldetectves.com for these posts. He has been writing fake negative reviews about us since we reported his "company to The ASA for misleading and false advertising. We also had to report his to Sussex Police as he was making threats to us also. ALL evidence of this can be viewed upon request. We have been trading successfully for 23 genuine years and if ANY of this rubbish were true, we would not still be trading!
They also work as ukprivateinvestigators.com under name of Tim Burchell, AVOID!
Accused me of threatening my Mother and being a suspect to use for helping Criminal Convicts out [protected].Complaint for them to be paranoid and concerned about false judgement a Judge is waiting to correct their failure to assist me December 2013.
This company operate a scam. They cliam to trace missing people. They then e-mail to say they have found the missing person and ask for their fee. You then get an e-mail telling you the person is dead and no other information.
Under no circumstances have any dealings with this company. You have been warned.
Thank you for posting this. It is always a worry when dealing with personal matters and I would like someone who operates in a tactful and professional manner. I will avoid this business.
