What a scam! Don’t waste your money! UEI completely mislead my wife into signing up for a course as medical assistant.

They had us believe there would be no problem acquiring a job in her field and that they would help with her employment. She was told she would be making between $14-$18 an hour as a medical assistant and that this was a solid career move with room to advance.

I am an out of work General Contractor... and with our savings dwindling and no relief in sight from the crippled economy, we made the decision to send my wife to school. I co-signed for the loan on her courses and she promptly began.

It was not long after she started before it became clear...this was not what we bargained for. Her first instructor did not last long and after being replaced, the new instructor and students realized they were not learning proper techniques, grades were not being reported and homework was not being followed up on. The confusion was extremely disturbing to us and that was just the beginning.

The classroom environment was equivalent to high school. . Students and teachers alike waste valuable time on classroom parties, love quarrels, and fighting among each other. My wife was actually threatened with physical bodily harm by another female student one day. This verbally vulgar person falsely claimed my wife, who always minds her own business, blew the whistle on her after she cheated(common among students) on a test and was caught. Never mind the fact she is cheating her way through life, never mind the fact that she can’t use a sentence without saying the ‘F’ word, never mind her personal hygiene and appearance but she actually wanted to beat my wife up!?...What’s wrong with girls today? What’s wrong with their parents…and most of all what is wrong with UEI for allowing this kind of non-sense?

My wife once told me she and a couple other students witnessed a condom fall out of her instructor’s lab coat during class. WTF…is this guy doing with a condom in his lab coat…maybe it’s for some medical procedure…yeah right …that’s why he turned bright red and became evasive when they told him about it.

Needless to say we counted the days till her program completion. Despite all the trouble my wife studied hard, did her homework, and never missed a day of class. She graduated with honors and a 4.0 GPA.

My wife then went on to her internship which was no picnic(8 hours a day with no pay). This went on for a month at a cost of $ 175.00 thanks to gas prices. She never missed a day and received 100% credit as well as great recommendations.

It has been 6 months since completing her course now. Our first payment on the loan is due in July and after distributing countless resumes online and in person …still no job. She only landed two interviews in all this time only to find she was not chosen. One of them was not even in her field of work. First of all… employers here in southern Ca. only want you if you can speak Spanish (thanks to all the free health care…don’t even get me started…). The other big hurdle is you have to have experience. How are you supposed to get experience if no one gives you a chance. From doing research I found out you have to do voluntary work or work below pay grade (around $9/hr) for this experience. My wife did not graduate at the bottom of her class…she graduated with a perfect 4.0 record and perfect attendance. I can’t believe this counts for nothing. She is more than qualified.

Again, we were mislead into thinking we were investing in a legitimate career. My wife and I sacrificed a great deal since this all began. My wife continues to send out resumes with no takers. She has become very discouraged and depressed at times. We now have a 9, 000 dollar debt on top of all this. We feel hung out dry by UEI and can only advise anyone who is thinking of enrolling. Don’t do it… if you want to go to school go to a real university. Don’t listen to all the false promises. What a mess this has caused in our lives.

Based on what I witnessed, I can’t help but think many of the graduates UEI are pushing out of their school are poorly trained. Employers know this and will not take a chance on these under qualified new graduates until someone else has a chance to train them. If UEI were putting out quality graduates instead of quantity graduates they might have a better relationship/reputation with medical facilities, clinics, offices and hospitals and therefore be able to find their graduates a job. In other words none of these places trust UEI either. How could they possibly find anyone a job? You might even be better off not to have them on your resume.

Why does anyone need this?

Stay away from UEI!

Brenda,

Funny how you say you are not obligated to be bilingual...yet my wife was not hired based only on the fact that she does not speak Spanish (yes discrimination). Of course it will always be another reason, employers can say anything, and they’re holding the cards. However they do tell her often as she hands out résumé’s, "we are looking for someone who speaks Spanish...while the other nurse’s aids working in the office are conversing in Spanish.

My wife also speaks another foreign language... fluently...just not Spanish (SOL, I guess). I am also finding out that some of her classmates were hired. These student's were not the brightest in the bunch and they're attitudes and attendance were not great...but they speak Spanish.

Hey supastar, I am glad I could help out...I am also half Mexican and I'm in the same boat. I am so tired of Spanish speaking people discriminating against me because I don't speak Spanish. They ask me, "Why"? I tell them, my parents never spoke any other language in the house except English. As a child I really didn’t care about learning a new language...you just want to be a kid, you know. These idiots act like they went out of their way to learn a foreign language. However that's the language that was in their home form the time they were very young and our schools got stuck teaching them English. I guess when it boils down to it, for some, that’s all they have... so they have got to beat someone up with it as much as possible to feel better about themselves.

I agree with you ...Who Cares I'm Me.

Supastar do yourself a favor and go to an accredited school...be diligent and do your research... and stay away from those crooks.

Most of all…

Good Luck to you

As my Husband pointed out, we are extremely unhappy with U.E.I.

I Graduated in U.E.I. It really sucks they don't help you at all. They give you the run around, and waste your time and gas, like we can afford it. There just sitting on there ### all the time. Every time you call them they transfer you to another person that doesn’t know anything or they tell you, it’s not there department. After I called them many times, the career services person asked me if I can come in so she can help me find a job, which did not happen.

Instead they put you into the room with a marketing person to sell there diet products and waste more of your time. I sat in Friday traffic without any accomplishment... Yeah! Thank you for making me angrier. She told me it's better than nothing. So they are telling me that were going to sell diet products instead of what went to school for... no way!

Stay away from U.E. I. Scam

Misrepresentation is a lie...period! We were sold a bill of goods they did not deliver on ...and then sent the shills out to call all of us lazy. Even the ones that worked hard and did everything they were supposed to...Ok jessica 909

I followed the schools advice on how to take off when my much wanted pregnancy turned into a dangerous situation, and because of unclear sonograms it did not get terminated until i was 20 weeks into a 40 wk gig. That messed with my mind a bit and having a mental health diagnosis, and unmedicated because of the pregnancy i went to many different ppl at the school, explaining what was happening and that i needed to pause my education for two months max, to get my head back in the game. the lady i landed in front of said "oh well that's a lot of paperwork, lets just do it like this... " i asked but won't there be repercussions? i want to do it the right way, i want to finish this. "It takes awhile to be approved and if u want to be able to miss this week's class we will just have to do all the assignments on time, and then go to labs if u feel u can.." Now i have done a lot of work on myself and that is the only reason i didn't get pushy about it. i thought she's a professional, so i'll trust her, she wouldn't steer me wrong."

Then ok, my bad, i forgot payments started and never saw any email or call saying hey, u missed a payment, until i'd missed around 5. Then the pressure was intense even after i explained i hadn't been hardly working due to my mental state, my 8 year relationship ended, and i was close to being homeless. still almost daily the calls of can u pay anything? if not u will default and owe it all at once! I like to eat at least once a day too, i mean i kinda have to, to stay alive.

Then all of a sudden i get an email, your schedule has changed, i go in and they were like no u should of been here yesterday. So on Mon i go in, i say i'm not sure which classroom i'm supposed to be in can you tell me? After about a half hour i'm directed to my class, the same one.

Then one day halfway into the module they say you have a new teacher. This guys an [censored]. He immediately had preconceived misconceptions about me that caused him to act very unprofessionally. As an American with a Disability there are certain concessions I need to be able to do the program. Not only did he embarrass me infront of the class, when i let him know i'd be needing to speak to him about some things, he shut me down, fast and hard. "no, please don't" were his exact words. I asked that next time he had something like that to say, to please pull me to the side, away from the class. "We aren't doing things the way you want them done" he says. I couldn't help myself, I say, "no its just whats professional" I let the school know what happened and that i no longer am comfortable taking his class. im told there's no way to change in the middle of a module. i'd have to go back to his classroom or fail the module. after speaking to my mom and therapist they agree with me its not smart to go back into his classroom. i have anger problems, so to avoid a bigger issue i decided to wait till the next module and go into my new class. i was told id be called or emailed with my new schedule. i wasn't. if i had not checked in i'd have missed even more.

So i miss class because i got offered side work, $500! that would help greatly! And i get kicked out.

I should be able to allow life to happen and not be kicked out, especially when i was following what the school said to do! i did my best to do things the right way, and now ur school needs to fix it or face a lawsuit. and i'm not even gonna touch on the [censored] education because so many others already have. Unfortunately i need my certification, and my money is tied up in you guys. your employees were lazy and guided me to disaster after promising to lead me to a better life...

all i want is to be allowed to continue my education, otherwise ill be letting the dept. of rehab and the fasfa peeps just how u guys get down.

After graduation I was laid off, after reviving an bonus check for my great work, I was not taught what I needed to get into a agency, and without a job for over a year, I have tested for over 4 agencys and applied to anything remotely close to CJ, thank God I will never give up on my dream even though I feel I was dupped into attending, and I know of one girl that went on to be a stripper after she realized she will never make what she needs to pay them back or live without this option, me myself I could not do this because my daughter. Is 7 and anything she sees me do is influence to her, I hope, I and my children. Can come out of this. Mess okay. All I ever wanted to do is do something involving. Law and today. After graduating. Uei college, I am a home maker, extremely invaluable feelings, and had worked all my life, now not. Working for over a year, i hope. They get what's coming to them my hopes in my efforts. Have never. Felt more low

I have to agree that I felt disappointed when I attended at UEI college in Chula Vista, California. I definitely feel you for the discrimination against not being able to speak Spanish. I am half Swiss and Half Sicilian but was raised on the East Coast all my life. Needless to say I did not grow up with Spanish spoken in my home. I moved here after I got out of the Navy and it's almost an invisible requirement to speak Spanish to get hired here. I did the Business Office and Administration Certification as it was the only degree aside from the IT that you could transfer into an Associates Degree. My main teacher was a pompous professor who held a masters and attended Harvard. You would think this person would extend his knowledge and we'd learn more from him...WRONG. They started this thing where we had to go to like 3 different classrooms in everyday. During our trip to one of those classrooms we had to take a 10 minute walk to the other classroom and then sit there for 30 mins only to go back and waste another 10 minutes walking back. In this 30 minute class room, we had no computers, never did any work and just sat around and shot the breeze. In class I found out that our class was behind the curriculum stated by the school. We were supposed to be on like chapter 9 in one class and instead we were on like 3. There were times when I felt we should have learned more as I was very excited to learn about business and marketing in my class. We got tested on some questions and the answers were clearly wrong as I found the answers they should have been or the lack of support from the book that the answer was given from. Instead of accept the mistakes the teachers said "Well that's what the answer is and it didn't matter if it was wrong because he's the professor and he's always right. Not an attitude of someone who is supposed to be teaching. When I went to career services I went early and informed the woman that I did not speak Spanish so please put my in a place I can work. When I got sent to my Externship, I got sent to a lame racist tax agency Gonzales Tax Agency. I showed up the first day early like instructed and the point of contact for the job site who was supposed to be there never showed up. So I did nothing but file some paperwork. The second day I was informed that the point of contact would be there at 12 yet I was instructed to be there at 10. This time he showed up 2 hours late! Again, I did pretty much nothing and got no experience. Then the manager Mr. Gonzales informs me that he doesn't think it's a good fit because I don't speak Spanish and everyone in at the "agency" does (they were ALL Mexican) Why did the career service person send me there in the first place?! Obviously, like another posting pointed out she didn't listen or care about my success or even what I told her. I then got transferred to another tax agency Liberty Tax. I did really well here and even worked past my externship requirements because I was really looking to at least get hired. It was September when he informed me that he wasn't hiring till tax season in February! I told the Career Services woman I was unemployed since November 2009 and I needed a job that would offer me an opportunity. Why then did she send me to 2 dead end jobs with no hope of employment in the future?! I am now attending a REAL college (Devry) that has Bachelor programs available...btw UEI does not transfer to a lot of colleges as it's National Credit. If you want a good school go regional accreditation. Devry is also a school that offers online opportunities for those with schedules. They also have a much better portfolio of job placements than UEI. UEI is a poor man's replacement for a community college and although more cheap than average campus you pay for it in quality.

I completely disagree with anyone who states " its not the school it's YOU." Excuse me, but i am a 4.0 graduate of UEI college in Ontario and am livid at this school. I am a very hardworking and dedicated individual, and i have been trying to get a job for 6 months. When i met with the administrative rep she told me many things, which now i have come to find out were complete lies! Shonda (administrative rep) first asked me to write down on a piece of paper all of what i was looking to accomplish this next year. I had wrote down i wanted a career that i love, and to make enough money to afford an apartment of my own. She looked me right in the eyes and said you can accomplish this here at uei. She went on telling me about how "real" she is, and how she wasn't lying to me. She said that 8 out of 10 students get placed, and the reason why its only 8 out 10 instead of ten out of ten was simply because those people weren't trying to pursue getting a job. She also promised me that in career services they would help me with making my resume, and helping me get placed in a job. So me falling for everything she said, i went through with the pharmacy technician program. So a month before i was suppose to start my externship i went into career services to speak with Jennifer, who is the career service rep for the pharmacy technician program. There was a younger guy who told me i couldn't just go speak with her i needed to set an appointment. Well when i went to set the appointment he told me that i am only suppose to see her a week before im suppose to start my externship so i could fill out papers, and she then will start looking for my externship site. I told the guy it was very important to speak with her sooner because i wanted to get placed in a hospital not retail so i needed to know if there was additional things i needed or anything. He told me you are fine if there is anything you need she will help you at your appoointment the week before your going to start your externship site. So i waited, the day of my appointment with her, she walked into my classroom and spoke with us about the externship. She said that getting into a hospital there is a lot of steps you need to take and additional shots you need to get before even applying to extern there, and told us that it is probably too late to start the paperwork already since we only had a week left. I was so upset, so i stopped her before she walked out and i explained what had happened with the guy. All she said to me was, "well im really sorry about that, you can still try to get the paperwork in on time but other than that i don't know what to tell you." So i than just decided to go with a compounding site instead (i did not want to do retail) So i went to talk to her about getting me into a compounding site, she said i had to go look up places and give her all of thier information and she would call, so that same day i researched and gave her two pages full of compounding sites, thier phone numbers, addresses, everything. Everyday after that i went into her office to ask if she had made the phone calls, she said she was busy but she would get around to it. WTF? get around to it?! isn't that the purpose of her job, to help us students in getting an externship site?! I was livid! The next couple days roll around and she got student after student an externship site, and to get the students who are failing in the class an externship site before even helping me out really offended me. Also, i asked her to help me with my resume and she just glanced at it and said that one looks fine. Anyways, i ended up days after my last day of school getting an externship site at target. I finished my externship with a perfect score and good reccommendations. All Jennifer did after that was send me job postings from indeed.com which i could have done myself. And most of them are way too far for me to drive, plus they all want experience... now tell me why would she even send me a job post if i cant even apply there? She has also sent me posting for pharmacist jobs... what is she thinking? Plus I am not the only one who has the same problem, everyone in that class is upset because no one will help us look for a job, and we have this huge loan that we cant even pay for. When you work so hard at something to just find out everything was a bunch of lies is very upseting. I think it is totally wrong of them to lie to people the way they do... I understand that not everyone will get placed into a job afterwards but they should at least try to help you. My career counselor has done nothing but treat me like another number. The school might not be a huge scam, but from my personal experience they are there for the profit not the students which is very disappointing. If i had known that this is how it was going to be i would have just went to the community college, it would have been a lot less expensive.

I went to UEI and it wasnt the best school ill agree to that but I have a career in IT and Ive been doing it for about 10 years now and it all started with UEI :) I have friends that went there and did nothing with it and said the same thing it was a scam or a waste but they also did nothing with there life. I also have a friend that went to a university and got his masters and now works in retail. So its not the school you attend its YOU. People are just looking for a QUICK way to get ahead and when it dosent work its automatically a scam. I believe that no matter what you do in life you cannot give up even if it gets hard. You have to set your goals and go for them! I could have easily gave up and said it was a scam but i kept pushing to get into the field and it was because i had the UEI cert that got me in the door. No matter what school you go to it does not gaurentee you a job anywhere. So keep pushing and never give up and you will all get a position in the field you went to school for. Well good luck to all of you!

Wow I totally almost made one of the biggest mistakes in going to UEI. Thank you soo much for letting me know what it is really like. Its people like you I thank god for cause I would have been the stuck with a little certificate from UEI not having a job offer or nothing, man it must be so hard for you guys I really feel for you. And especially for the spanish thing, I'm half mexican and people always assume that I speak spanish all the time, I'm like noooo sorry, but i shouldnt be saying sorry cause we are in the United states where the dominanting lingo is English, and I know all the controversey about california really belonging to mexico blah blah blah, idk wat to think, sometimes i get mad and wish I actually did speak spanish. But who cares I'm me, but the thing I am really concerned with is that aspect of when I do plan on pursing a career in the healthcare field am I really going to be obligated to be bilingual? Dang thats going to be hard, I already tried to speak spanish, doesnt really work for me, unless I move to mexico for about a year, which is never going to happen! Well thanks again!

I agree home health might be an option. Why must these schools who say they are accredited not be liable for misleading and extorting money from those who only want to better their quality of life. Sure they say they are accredited, but your next question should be are they regionally accredited? Like most Community Colleges and Universities. Can you transfer any of your completed work for credit anywhere else toward a higher degree. If UEI answers yes they are LYING TO YOU. If UEI were as confident about their program(s) as they speak of when you enroll; then they should offer a guaranty for job placement or free tuition especially to those who do exceptionally well. To UEI I say BOO your just like all the rest of those businesses out there that exploit people who are hard working and productive in society. I guess Quality is a thing of the past and in UEI's case Quality never was.
