AOL shut down Hometown web sites

AOL took my money to provide internet access and web hosting. On 10/31/08 they discontinued providing web hosting at Hometown.aol.com and refused to provide access to my data. If you have the same problem, I found a solution to get into the AOL FTP site without using AOL software (which no longer works).

Use an FTP client like FTP Voyager and log in using the following information:

URL = ftp.hometown.aol.com

default directory = "your AOL screen name"

log in = "your AOL screen name"

password = "your AOL password"

This won't work if you try to use anonymous log in

On October 30, 2008 I was informed that my AOL account had been terminated. I called customer service and was then transferred to the business office. I explained my situation and asked why my account had been terminated. After the representative explained the only thing I could do was send a letter to CAT, I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor also said the only thing to do was to write a letter to CAT. That same day, I sent a letter asking that my account be reinstated long enough for me to extract my saved information such as email addresses, phone numbers, and emails.

I have been an AOL account holder for over 8 years. I sent a letter, as I was instructed by the AOL business office, almost two weeks ago. I have yet to hear anything back from AOL concerning my account. I ask, again, that my account be reinstated long enough for me to extract my saved information.

AOL Cancelled svc and still getting billed each month

My Mother is 80 and has tried for close to a year to cancel her AOL service (she hasn't had a computer for months). TWX*AOL SERVICE 0808, [protected] continues to bill her checking account each month. I don't even understand the charges. She has tried calling them but they say they can not help her unless she gives them her e-mail address and password. She has not used either for months and has forgotten them. I have now stepped in to try and resolve the issue but getting the run a round. I have provided my e-mail address for feedback.

file a complaint with the BBB, better business bureau, file a complaint with the federal communications agency, add up all the charges that she was billed, go to civil court and file a lawsuit for the amount and 1, 000, 000 dollars in punitive damages.

the lawsuit will get thrown out, however in the process, you will receive a full refund and the billing will end.

might even be a chance the judge despises AOL Time warner and decides to hear the case. might get lucky, if so... you owe me a 15% cut of your winnings.

This might sound like a crazy solution to your problem but it may be your only hope. CANCEL the credit card they are using to bill her. Just cancel the card ASAP. I used to have AOL a million years ago, and I had a hard time getting then to let us cancel our account. Seems they are a crappy internet provider and as a last resort to losing lots of customers they want to hang onto everyone's coat tails. AOL is a dinosaur they has been dying a slow death for a lonnnnng looong looong time...you can get free email accounts with either yahoo or google & they are both totally free & good.

AOL Unfair billing practices

I pay by Credit Card. My bill has more than doubled in past two months and I can not reach a person at AOL to discuss it. I used the number on Credit Card bill for AOL and it sends me to bill.aol.com. When I get there, I cannot access my account, nor do I get a phone number to speak to anyone. What a scam they have going.
I am upset and just want to reach a person by phone to discuss why they increased my bill without contacting me or without sending me a notice via mail, that they were billing my account for double the agreed contract. I want someone to contact me since I am unable to contact them.
This is very upsetting to me.

AOL BAD DOGO ARGENTINO BREEDER

RESPONDING to last Complaint about Genius Dogo Argentinos selling dogs with no reg, papers & health issues:
I am sorry about your dogo. I have seen Julie Brungard at many UKC dog shows in MI & it is true that she just show all of her litter mate dogos against each other to get top 10 points. Julie Brungard is a very red neck person & she thinks she knows everything. I recall she asked a friend of mine to handle one of her dogs for her very poorly so that the one she was showing(it's brother) could win all the top 10 points. It is a very low life way to get points. If I had to win that way I wouldn't want to win at all. Julie Brungard has a very big ego & she is always telling others what to do & screaming at her dogs when at shows. Don't feel bad she talks to everyone like they are stupid lol... next time you are looking for a dogo try contacting the DACA & asking them for advise on good breeders!

AOL BAD Dogo Argentino aka Argentine Mastiff 'Julie A Brungard'

VERY BAD DOGO BREEDER Julie Brungard of DOGS OF GENIUS DOGO ARGENTINOS! I purchased my Dogo Argentino from the BAD Dogo breeder Julie A Brungard of Genius Dogos Argentinos. Julie lied to me, inbred my dogo, did not give me health guarantees as promised, did not even give me my dogos medical history as promised, Julie Brungard sells unhealthy dogos for high dollar & DOES NOT EVEN GIVE REGISTRATION PAPERS AS PROMISED & PAID FOR.

Writen by my husband: This nightmare started in Oct 2007 when my wife contacted Julie Brungard / Genius dogos aka Dogs Of Genius Dogo Argentinos looking for a show quality puppy to show for fun. My wife found Julie in doing a search for titled dogos & contacted her thinking she had quality dogs. We didn't have any real interest in breeding but my wife thought showing would be a fun hobby because she showed in AKC as a kid.

Julie offered my wife & I a dogo aregentino puppy named 'Antigua' & her sister (who I later found out are BADLY INBRED Dogos!). My wife was worried about hips because of horror stories we read on dogo message boards about bad dogo breeders breeding & selling dogos with bad hip dysplasia so she asked Julie Brungard of Genius dogos about her health/hip guarantee & Julie told us she would be fully guaranteed to have 'good hips' until she was 2 years old. Julie said she will send us the guarantee, shot records & registration papers immediately after we paid for 'Antigua'.

My wife was also concerned about her being show quality because with flight she would be over $2, 500.00. Julie Brungard assured my wife that her dogos were all show quality & the best. I read an email she sent my wife in which she wrote that her dogos are show quality & that other dogo breeders such as Tim Parr, Debonair & a couple other breeders... have very bad headed dogos but hers are better .

At the same time she told my wife that her dogos were the number 1 champions so my wife was impressed but when I reread her emails I found several emails that stated she was showing all of her litter mate Dogos against each other every weekend & trying to manipulate the judges to pick the one she wants to win! She even emailed my wife a list of the points she would win to be number 1 in UKC just by showing her litter mate dogos against each other. Julie told my wife that she would show her other dogos bad & show Anthos Of Genius (I think ?, my dogs brother/allso inbred) well so he would get all points. So she basically cheats the system to make her dogo Anthos Of Genius look like a big winner. She shows dogos that are related against each other to accumulate points so she can say her dogs are big winners & sell puppies for a higher price. Her dogs wins are not respectable & should not count! If I would have read the emails sent to my wife before we purchased Antigua I would have never ever bought her!

After Julie Brungard made all of these promises to my wife we over-nighted her a money order by certified mail. After that we got 'Antigua' but NOTHING else ever again. My wife asked Julie Brungard repeatedly over & over again for Antigua's original medical regards, health guarantee & registration papers that we paid for & she agreed to send us she would never send us any of it!

After we asked many many times for the health guarantee Julie sent my wife a blank one that she did not sign so we signed it & sent it back to her asking her to sign it too. She responded back to us coldly like we are stupid, SHE SAID NO that she had to verify my ID which is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! She didn't need to verify my ID to SPEND MY MONEY or SEND THE DOG TO ME!

My name was on the money order & all airport documents etc how could I be any one else? Right then I knew she was making excuses & couldn't be trusted! We emailed Julie Brungard over & over again about receiving Antigua's registration papers as we purchased her as a show dog, but we surely couldn't show her with out papers! Julie absolutely refused to send me any documentation or UKC slip!

She made up a crazy story about needing to verify my phone number that she had since our first conversation, we did what she asked & then she said that she had to verify our ID & address again. Which is absolutely crazy because my name & address was on the money order certified mail from the post office & the Air port documentation. I sent Julie a copy of my drivers license which she said she never received. She also told me that UKC requires it (another lie) I contacted UKC & they said absolutely not that all they need is for the breeder to keep a copy of the address that they write on the UKC application for the new owners which would be the SAME address used on the Airport info etc that Julie had.

So to make a long story shorter we paid a lot of money for a dog with no papers of any kind at all. I did also have a dogo Argentino breeder judge look at her & he said that she is NOT even show quality that she is leggy, awkward narrow in front & has a very gay tail.

We love Antigua as our pet but even just as a pet she has not been a very healthy dogo. She has had bouts of RED MANGE off & on the whole time we have owned her starting with a bald spot on her neck that has grown rapidly & required many expensive dips from the vet. Upon x-raying her hips last week due to a limp we found that she has a subluxation in her left hip joint.

After getting these results from our vet we did further research on Antigua's line only to find that she is closely INBRED which absolutely disgust me! Antigua's parents Rena & Buncho are the equivalent to HALF BROTHER & SISTER it is listed on the DOGS OF GENIUS DOGO ARGENTINO http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/dogsofgenius_(cut & past).
My wife was intimidated by Julie because Julie Brungard is very rude & treats my wife like she is stupid so we have stopped asking Julie Brungard for any thing but we want to warn others not to ever buy a Dogo Argentino puppy from breeders Julie Brungard or Dogs Of Genius Dogo Argentinos ! FYI We did notice today that Julie has 10 new Dogo Argentino puppies for sale on her site so please don't support this bad breeder.

AOL 2 chgs of 12.95

I thought that this was to be a free service to check credit. This amount showed up on my May and June statement. The ref#for may is Zo48E8H5123M303ETL=June ZO48F8K18586DY1HVZ. I have never received a bill for this, but it is showing up on my credit statement. I would appreciate you looking into this for me. If I had a telephone # for them i would call them directly myself. I do not have a contact3 or an address.

Thanks in advance,
Linda Tiller.

I don't know who this company represents themselves as to get you to sign up but I never asked for nor have I ever received anything in the way of an e-mail, letter, nothing from this company; no report has ever been generated to, at the very least, somewhat justify these charges. This really sucks.

I agree, totally. I wanted to see my credit report, but I didn't want to see it all the time! Imagine how I felt when I started noticing the monthly charges hitting my bank account!

The thing is, you're supposed to be able to get your credit report free 1 time a year. I think, if you want to get it again that year it's something like $10. How did I get sucked into $12.95 a month? I'm stupid! :)

AOL Unauthorized charges on my debit card

For two (2) separate months now I have had $33.40 taken out of my bank account and have no idea who / what / or where this company is. There is no phone number attached to the withdrawls. I want my money back --- but if I can't get that then I certainly want to be able stop whoever this is from taking more! What do I do?

Again this month I have been charged for this service that I do not have! I contacted my bank and apparently AOL has to cancel the account withdrawl!@#$%^&* what sense does that make. The last I knew, AOL wwas not contributing to my account. Anyway, while I was talking with my bank representative she told me to go on-line and to try and get a phone number to cancel the withdrawls ~~~ and if this didn't work then to go into the bank and fill out a form.
While I was on-line I came across this phone number [protected] and attempted a call. Just as the person that posted the number, I was greeted by a computer and after much frustration I was transferred to a person that wanted my debit card number! I refused and decided to go to my bank and fill out whatever form is necessary to cancel this automatic withdrawl.

I lost money on TWX*AOL withdrawals to a tune of $238 for about a year before I noticed.

Call AOL's fraud number [protected] (I picked option 4), it's a bit easier than navigating their customer service (which just made me want to hit things with chairs). They'll send an affadavit to you. That's where I am in the process.

This article gives me hope I might get some money back: http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/07/11/AOL-to-refund-customers_1.html

I allowed a family member to do a one time only transaction with my bank debit card on 7/2009 for 21.00 in which i advised the rep from direct tv whom collected the pmt that this was a ONE TIME ONLY CHARGE and do not store my cc number because i did this as a favor! After reviewing my acct on 10/6/2009 i saw that a debit was taken from account in the amt of 558.60 without so much as a word! I'm PISSED! I contacted direct tv and was hung up on 3 different times then i was connected to a rep that said i would have to speak to the financial billing services department which comes to find out you cant talk to them over the phone only by fax? I faxed them on 10/6/2008 explaining that this is fraud and i dont have an acct and they should return my funds to my acct asap! I called back a different rep told me that they can withdraw funds because i allowed the 1st transaction! I stated to her that I have worked at a credit card company and that isnt true! Remember people>>> You can use your card to do what ever you choose to do but if it isnt a transaction that you actually made call your card company and dispute it on the grounds that if you didnt sign anything and the company which debited the acct doesnt have you listed as a company customer those funds will have to be credited back to your acct.

Hello Henry,

You need to remember that your credit card was most likely compromised long before it was used on Aim Call Out. As well please keep in mind that todays fraudsters have most if not all of your credit card information including your name, address and CVV(Security Code). So in situations like that it is hard to identify a fraudulant account from a real account until somebody like you calls in to report the bad charge. As well it doesn't hurt to have your credit card company place strict rules on your card to inform you when you have any abnormal spending patterns appear. Before you start spamming companies with letters you might want to take some time to understand what fraudulant users are capable of these days. Here is a link to a video that shows some of what they can do. http://www.cbc.ca/national/blog/video/crimejustice/going_going_gone_1.html

I was sent something from twx*aol. To update my account. I thought they would contiue to take it out of my debit account, because they asked for a routing number. Instead they said they took it out of out of a checking accout and charged me $7.00 because thats what they charge over and abouve my basic $9.95 charge. They corrected thier mistake and would not return the $7.00 overcharge. To me this is fraud and the law should look into this scam.

AOL Terrible scam!

After unsuccessfully trying to cancel my account with AOL customer service I finally decided to cancel my credit card in March on 2007. Since AOL were not able to bill me any longer they began mailing me paper bills which I ignored. Why should I pay for something I don't use or have access to? In July or August on 2007 bills have stopped. In January of 2008 I received a letter from a collection agency that I owe AOL close to $70.00. I sent a reply to collection agency that after 12 years with AOL I have earned the right to cancel my services with them any time I want.

After I canceled my credit card and AOL wasn't able to bill me they shut my account down. The question remains: What are they billing me for? I understand with so many different companies out there that offer free email accounts AOL has lost a lot of subscribers, but that's not my problem. Get with the program and stop ripping people off.

AOL Fraudulently debiting bank account

Twx*aol services has fraudulently withdrawn from my son's banking account three (3) times a month in 2007 and january 2008 the amount of $32.90. He lives on a fixed income and works very hard for it. This is a scam that should definitely be addressed by this company and the law. Where did they get his account number? He does not have a computer! We want all of his money back.

I just discovered a week ago that I have been charged $32.90 for the last year and a half also by TWX*AOL. I went to my bank and was also told there was nothing they could do beyond the last 60 days. They also (sarcastically) asked if I balanced my checkbook. Of course I do but like most busy people I use a debit card and don't always remember to record my charges. I lose receipts. Who compares bank statements from month to month?!? It wasn't until I underwent emergency surgery and lost my primary income followed by the death of a child and was beyond broke that I took notice to this fraudulent activity to my bank account! I am under enough stress! Do you know how badly I needed the over $500.00 they have stolen from me?!? I too want my money back ! My computer prior to December was inside a box for over a year! I didn't even have access to a computer and this company was charging me! They need to be stopped but HOW?!?!?

I have been charged 32.90 two times in the last three weeks. When I called the bank they gave me the phone number to the chase bank that took the money out of my account. Chase bank gave me the [protected] number to aol. This has caused a overdraft of over 75.00 . I want my money back.

I just found out that TWX AOL Has been taking out $ 32.80 out of my bank account. I do not use AOL! This has been a faudulant transaction. When I went to the bank I was also told that this amount has been taken out since June of 2007. I was not aware of this! And I am mad a hell. I have never autherized AOL. The bank can only go back 60 Days. I asked who autherized this and how did this company get my account info. All the bank personel could do was say I don't know. I do not know what to do?

I noticed a charge of $32.90 being taken out of my account for 8-9 months now and had to close out my account. I have never used AOL so how they got my account number i don't know. I plan on making a few phone calls but don't know were to start. And the funny thing is i don't even have a phone line in the house, just cell phones.

Going over my bank account discovered AOL has billed for services I do not receive . I have no desire for the service. I do not even use AOL. If the FTC or FCC can't do anything about these charges, then congress should get involved and shut AOL down completely. If this a scam by someone other than AOL, it would be AOL's best interest to solve this problem before their company gets anymore bad press.

I was trying to get information from FreeCreditReport.com. I did not authorize any report from miniCreditreport.com. However, minicreditreport has charged my credit card $14.95 on July 03 2009 and probably also on my Aug statement that I have not yet received. I want to get my name cleared from minicreditreport and these unauthorize fees credited to my credit card account.

AOL Change of billing method

Complaint against AOL -Change of billing method

Good Morning:-)

My name is Ethel Smith; my email address with AOL is Email User I have had this account with AOL for the past 10 years. I have made an attempt to find the AOL website that will allow me to change my payment method to prevent the increased payment of 2.00 on to my monthly surcharge. The following hyperlink http://bill.aol.com was include in the email that would all me to change my method of payment however upon entering my account name and password, I get this secondary question about my school. I do not even know what that question means? Am I expected to remember what my school is? This is just my opinion but it seems as if AOL does not want their customer's to make the necessary changes to save a few dollars in the longer run. I sent an email to AOL Plan Info.com with my concern on October 12, 2007 and no response.

If this behavior is considered good customer service, I would be irate and ready to end my service at bad customer service!

Thank you

Ethel Smith

I have been trying for 3 days to view my account. I must have forgotten my access word because it keeps asking me the name of my pet, and I don't have one. I have been a customer for a long time and now I can't even get someone to talk to me. I would also like some information on the different price plans. I would hope I can get some help with my problem. I also filled out the questions about my name, telephone number and the last 4 numbers on my credit card. I keep on answering it any they tell me it's incorrect. I am very frustated at this point. Thank you.

I accepted a plan from AOL where you get the first 10 hours free and then so much thereafter per month until you cancel. Well I only needed for a few weeks until my new high speed internet servcie was installed by a different provider. I do online school so I needed something to get connected for a short time. Anyway after the 10 hours I continued using it for about 2weeks then had it cancelled. I was recently on vacation in Florida and checked my bank account online and found a 100.00 deduction from my account by TWX*AOL Service. I just got off the phone with them about an hour ago and they said once I used my free 10 hours I had continued on using an additional 45 hours worth of dial-up. I can agree with that and still could'nt understand the charges. Well, they told me that they charge $2.65 per hour after the free 10 hours. I was sooooo mad. That makes no sense to me. Most companies charge on per month basis and when I heard this I just told what I thought of them. This is how they get there money by not stating this within the agreement. All they say is you will be charged after the free service but no where do they say on a per hour basis as I was just told. I dont understand how these companies are allowed to do this. Oh and after this discussion, Andrew continued to try and offer me services with them. I was like, Hey I know you are required to say this stuff but you just need to stop, I am NOT interested in any services from you. He continues with "Well I would like to tell you about a free CD we offer for no charge for tutorials through Video Professor". I stopped him again and said, " All I want is my money back, I would be willing to pay for the monthly charge for this service but for a 100.00 I could have had 5 months worth of unlimited dial-up through your service, as you are currently offering." He continues apologizing.I was getting nowhere and finally hung up! I WILL continue with this matter!

I am with aol and have the McAfee suite which I bought and paid for, and its up for renewal 2110, its a two year subscription, on my bank account I spotted, aol have been taking £2-49 per month for tje McAfeee for 15 months, can I get a refund? no. when I cancelled with my bank, the bank teller said it happened to her, but because she did not notice for sometime, she only got 6 months refund, and as she said, she must have spent more on calls trying to get it back.
Aol tell me it not their money it goes to carphone warehouse, Mcafee said i do not have it, only have what I pay for. when my contract is up I am going elsewhere, sick of making calls and having to say pardon, because I cannot understand the person on the line. sick to death of aol all together, now I see i am not the only one they robbing blind.

AOL is Garbage! Hopefully the company does fail in this every changing economy as their product and customer support is the worst. I was billed $47 for un collected billing from last year after they told me my Credit Card would n't process. No kidding! I not longer wanted your service and had asked that it be cancelled, but it never was and AOL attempted to charge my old Credit Card 4 times, Duh how many time do you try to process an invalid CC. When I spoke to AOL recently I couldn't understand the person on the other end as AOL farms out it's work to other countries, I was told that I had never tried to cancel my service, that AOL had excellent records and is never wrong. Bottom line is I paid to kept some non english speaking person from calling my home 3-4 time a night. AOL hope that a class action lawsuit ifs filed against you soon for bad business practices.

AOL Worst customer service I have ever encountered in my life

AOL has the worst customer service I have ever encountered in my life. I have been trying to access my aol email account for 6 months to no avail, simply because I do not have the credit card we made the last payment on anymore. It is IMPOSSIBLE to speak to any kind of human. I never want to use any AOL or Time Warner product again, which is very difficult considering the monopoly they have on the U.S. market.

AOL Unauthorized checking account deductions

It is some sort of online service from AOL that I have never signed up for and I have no account with them to my knowledge. But for months now a deduction of $30.90 has been showing on my checking account statement from twx aol service.

I have been trying off and on for a few months to contact a real person at AOL to have this matter taken care of but only am able to connect with an automated phone system. I never get anywhere with this because I'm asked for my account number and I don't have one. I need help.

Just bought a new computer with 90 day free AOL service and used it for one day until I got on-line with SBC.

Within 2 days, I was charged $25.90 on my credit card, (which i never gave out to AOL) wothout authorization.

My question? How did they get my credit card number? Would I give a card number for a free sevice?

I am being charged for AOL Voice $9.90 a month, and $12.91 a month for AOL Service, my complaint is I don't use AOL I did at one time but cancelled, I use comcast service now to access the internet, also I was being charged $30.00 a month for AOL Service, after being charged for several months that did finally stop. My cancelling the AOL Service was due to after signing onto AOL, and used it for 2 months, I started having trouble staying on line, after a couple of days, I was told I could no longer use the service because I did not have a credit card, I told AOL that when I first started I was using my checking account, they told me they don't allow checking account use, had to have credit card, but yet the amounts that are being taken out now is through my checking account something is definately wrong, I want Aol to stop taking money out of my checking account for something I don't even use, there are AOL sites I do use on comcast internet that I was told by AOl that is free on the comcast internet service, and now AOL is trying to charge me, after sending me invitation to use the supposedly free sites, for free of no charge. Also when I was using AOL, that's what it was called, the service I am being charged now through my checking account is called TWX AOL Service and TWX AOL Voice, What the Hell is TWX AOL.

AOL - Fraudulent charges!

Rec'd two charges in the same month from this company that weren't authorized. When I called the number on my statement [protected] I was kept on hold for a long period, the phone was answered, "Credit Reporting" and then they asked me to verify my credit card number, then I was disconnected. This happened twice. It was then I called my credit card company, canceled my current card and was issued a new number.

AOL Charge for free service!

In June of 2006 my son bought me a Dell computer. My son-in-law installed it for me. It came with six months of free AOL. I have my own Internet provider, so I called and cancelled the six month deal. I was told by friends "good luck in cancelling as it can be a headache dealing with AOL."

My February 2007 Visa bill had a charge of $29.50 dated 1-07. I didn't notice it immediately and paid the bill. For some reason the Visa bills for March, April, and May were not received by me. There were a lot of things on my mind at the time and when it was finally noticed, AOL had charged me the $29.50 on 2-07, 3-07, 4-07, and now today 5-07.

My bank was able to have the late charges and finance charges removed and I paid the bill. Upon returning home with the statements the bank received from Visa for me, is when I saw the charges every month. Today, my daughter and the bank employee tried in vain to have AOL reimburse me for the 5 months worth of charges for services that I do not use or want.

I wanted to cancel my Visa card for a new one, but they told the bank employee any charges from AOL would be denied.

Thank you for any help you can give me in this matter.

I notified the post office of not getting my mail.

AOL False charges

We had false charges also. We called [protected]... the fraud department of AOL. It took a while to get the number, but call it and they should be able to help.

Be firm and make sure to get a confirmation number. And be sure to get the person's name and ID number (they will say they don't have one but they do). Get this information before anyone transfers you or puts you on hold.

They should send you some sort of affidavit within 5 days, and once you send it back, you should get a refund.

I wonder if there is any way to pursue a class action against AOL because they obviously don't verify who is opening these accounts. We have never used AOL.

AOL has falsely charged my sons checking account as well. They claim they can't stop taking the money out of his account because I dont have an account number nor will I give them the debit card that it is suppossed to be linked to. I explained to them my son i ssitting on the coast of Libya right now and they said well have him call when he gets back to the states... really? Well now that I have his POA, I can really get this taken care of. I feel sorry for the people I have to deal with. They've taken out over $600 including the bounced check notices as well.

I have not been a member of AOL for several years. I fully agree that trying to seperate from the service was a chore but their indifference to my request to eliminate the homepage is still a problem. The last time I was able to locate a phone number to speak with a tech person I was told that I would have to be a member and be able to log in so that I could get rid of the homepage . No one will help or even knows how to help. The indifference of AOL is astonishing. So, even though my business has changed the outdated and unwanted homepage still remains. AOL is a dinosaur amist good service providers.
