My husband got a quote from Tuffy for some AC repairs. We elected not to have the work done with Tuffy, but they opened a credit card in our name for the total of what we had been quoted for the work. The first credit card statement arrived at an address where we had lived the previous year - the address was certainly never provided by us. We are now fighting the credit card company and the collection agency. This has been going on for 8 months, and is still unresolved.

As an aside, when we got quotes for the same repairs from 2 other auto service stations in the area, we were told by BOTH that Tuffy quoted us on several items that did not require any repairs.

Upon filing complaints, we discovered that Tuffy has an unsatisfactory rating with the Better Business Bureau.

I have had work done on my mazda at Tuffy's here in San Carlos Park Fort Myers in the last 3 years.Every single time I get my car back, something else is wrong out of the blue. I had over $3500 of work and labor costs. The most recent was them replacing one of the valve cover gaskets they installed in Nov2015.It has been leaking oil STILL. After they supposedly did that, the engine light is always on, The TPS light comes on intermittently, the power while driving the car is hesitating. And the battery is being drained overnight. I have to disconnect the battery every night in order for the car to start in the morning. I have been doing this since September 2015.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB on this shop, where the manager hides when I come in.
So, far, their response is they are going to let the owner know. He already knows as I have emailed the corporate office 2 times already these past 3 months. Who in their RIGHT MIND would take their car back to the place that is sabotaging it? They refuse to have any other Tuffy shop look at it.
I feel like I am going to die in this car soon. It feels unsafe. I am so disgusted with this shop. I don't think it is fair to have me bring the car BACK to them. One of the employees there told me the battery is draining due to the amp in the radio? The radio has not been touched since 2007. There is nothing new that was done to the radio. Yet when I went to pick my car up at the shop, it was dead. So much for taking the radio fuse out. Advanced auto where I bought the battery ran a test and said the oil that was leaking out of the defective valve cover gasket, leaked onto the alternator causing it to short out. Tuffys ignored this advice. So here I am not knowing if I will die in this car soon.

Like Den, I owned a Tuffy shop... for over 20 years. Because I didn't sell enough unnecessary repairs, I ended up losing it. There's just not enough legitimate needs out there to survive. The rough economy forces ALL SHOPS, legitimate or otherwise, to sell all they can in order to survive. I didn't ...and look what happened. BUYER BEWARE.

This is not true, Tuffy auto service's are independintly owned and each owner or manager of the stores are different. it's just like our government, some are honest and some are not.
