if it wasn't for my fiance i would be ### out of luck too. i almost fell for this ### too. it was a phillips 42 lcd tv from craigslist. HiI still have the TV. The TV is in perfect shape (take a look at the attached pics) and it comes with 18 months of transferable warranty. I am now in United Kingdom. I have been relocated here with my work several months ago. The TV is a US version and I think I can sell it for a better price in the US.Since I can't meet you and make the exchange, I would like to use a service that will help us with that. Please go here to see the procedure:TNT is a worldwide delivery company (like Fedex, DHL or UPS). You can see from their procedure that you will be able to check the TV before I receive the payment. If you are in a hurry, I will use 2 day delivery (shipping is on me).Let me know what you think. Thanks, Susan

don't buy stuff from the person sending you such messages

Hi,

The MacBook Air is still available, but I'm currently in Torino, Italy. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States and I had to move at my sister in Italy ( here I found a good job ) .
I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell the laptop locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.
I hope you are still interested. The laptop was bought brand new from Apple a 6 months ago. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
About the laptop I can say it is 6 months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $340 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The laptop is here with me in Italy.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.

Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Anna

I will attach the pictures again. I don't know what went wrong the first time.
I found a way to sell the laptop that will be safe for both of us. It's a worldwide delivery company called TNT. They have a service that will allow you to test the laptop before I receive my payment.
Please go to the TNT website below and read their procedure so we can be on the same page:

http://tnt-solutions.com/details.html

I will pay the TNT shipping fee.
If you agree to their terms please send me your name and address and I will start the delivery procedure.

Thanks,
Anna

Here is my runin with this person. Luckily my friend came across this board when I was talking to him about this. He had a similiar experience that I had remembered and became leery about this deal that was too good to be true.

Re: Apple MacBook Pro 15.4" Core i5, 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, 640 GB HD - $580

The MacBook Pro is still available, but I'm currently in London, United Kingdom. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States and I had to come back to my family.
I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell it locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.
I hope you are still interested. The laptop was bought brand new from Apple a 10 weeks ago. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
About the laptop I can say it is 10 weeks old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $580 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The laptop is here with me in UK.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

My response

Hi Bianca.

I am very interested, but how do you propose to exchange money and the laptop? I have been burned before and I'm sure you can understand my apprehension to buying something from someone from outside the US.

Do you have the specs on the computer?

thanks

Matt

Great info! thank you to whomever started this blog very informative, I also was captured by the ad and opened up dialogue with the individual "supposedly" selling the tv.The disclosure on the Craigslist site says it all:
DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 40" Samsung LED HDTV, 1080p full HDTV from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Torino, Italy.
I am selling the 40" Samsung LED, 1080p, full HDTV, 120 Mhz for $380 USD. I have attached some pics so you can see the condition of the TV.
The TV is still available and I hope you are still interested. This TV was ordered brand new 2 months ago.
About the TV I can say it's 2 months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $380 price is everything the TV came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The TV still has warranty for the next 10 months. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.

I am playing with that person now. I email her my fake address and name. I will email her a fake western union number. You can get a format from internet. It will keep her busy. We should all respond like that, so we will waste their time. Also, in response ask some questions, what color it is, etc. So they have to type specific answer, not just copy an paste. Also, always email the hosting company of the website that it is used for fraud. I have done it and they disabled the website.

Here is the string of emails, beware, I realized this was a scam when I went to send a scan copy of the TNT payment to the tntpayment email address, which was undelieverable. I called Western Union right away and got my money back and reported it to thier fraud department.

I did, and the email keeps bouncing not sure why.

I also attached it to you on the previous email.

This is looking a little fishy, can you shed some light?

I am in Italy next week.

Hi,

Did you send them the info at paymentdepartment@shipping-tnt.com ?
I don't know what light should I shed because it's out of my reach. I could ask you the same question because there was nothing attached to the email you sent me. This is fishy for me as well.
The easiest way to make some light in this situations is to give me the control number from western union and I will go in person at TNT and give it to them.
So please send me the number.

Thank you.

Weird, this is a bit too difficult.

I am in Florence on Tuesday, let’s ship it to my hotel and I will pay you through PayPal and release the funds once I have the iPad and it checks out.

To all the readers and interested parties of this complaints site.

Unfortunately I am the latest sucker who fell to an ad on Craigslist (64GB 3G iPad for $450). I wish I read this site before my money wire. I just lost $450, wired through Western Union on October 15th to the infamous TNT to a person named David Alexe ( Lanfranco Morett - TNT Payment Department, Torino Depot Via San Quintino, 29 Torino 10121 Payment Department General Manager: Antonello De Luca) for this advertisement:

I was stupid for not checking it out more thoroughly and sending the money before seeing any product. I was in a hurry due to travel and not focused on it well enough. It is good lesson to all, but shows what a [censor] world we live in and you can’t trust anybody!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THESE! Everyone just saved me from a horrible mistake. I was going to buy a 46" sony bravia for $370 from this lady who said she had just moved to Italy. She was going to pay all the shipping and all I had to do was "be satisfied with my item." I knew it sounded fishy. Here is the email I received from her:

Included in the $370 price is everything the TV came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The TV still has warranty for the next 20 months. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The TV is here with me in Italy.

This scam is US based.
The site they give you is US based.
Someone in the US is committing this scam.
173.192.221.44 is the IP for the site that tells you about TNT...TNT itself is not a scam, this site is. It's basically a crappy site put together by a hosting firm.
To anyone who did lose money, report it to the FBI's IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center...http://www.ic3.gov )

She also now goes by Bianca Genovese and says literally the exact same thing every time with the exception of the actual specs for the unit itself.

I responded with "Oh I see. I heard about you guys in the news about the TNT shipping scam..yeah no thanks."
...which was a lie, but hey, maybe it will scare them a bit :P

To Quincy Howard:

Before I found this website, I google'd reviews on the TNT shipping company itself, and I did find many reviews stating that the customer did receive the product they had ordered, but it had been broken or damaged during shipping, issues with delivery when the recipient is not home, etc. Many many issues, but many of these people did actually end up receiving their product, regardless of the condition. Now that is not to say that these people fell victim to this same scam, they may have been using the service through a completely different company or whatnot. I would recommend trying to find other reviews or complaints and see if there actually is a way to cancel your payment..maybe you could contact your bank and let them know what is going on, if you used a credit or debit card.

For future reference, an idea that a coworker of mine brought up when dealing with a questionable retail website; if the purchase you are trying to make is below $500, one idea might be to purchase a Visa Gift Card and use that for the purchase if at all possible, so just in case it is a scam, the scammers will not have your credit card information. Now, on the other hand, if you do use your credit card and fall victim to a scam like this, you might be able to go to the credit card company and hopefully they can cancel the payment or treat the situation as if someone stole your credit card and used it for said transaction.

Those are just a couple of ideas, I have never done any of those actions myself so I don't know if things would work out that smoothly, but hopefully this might help anyone else for possibly future encounters with scammers over the internet.

And to "evilbus":

When "Anna" tried scamming me, saying she lived in London, I too so happened to have a relative who lives in the same area. In my last post, I mentioned that she never responded when I asked her for her zip code so my cousin could meet her to do the transaction. But later that day she did end up responding, giving me what I assume to be a false address. She responded, "my address is:
30 Leicester Square, London, WC2H 7LA" which I find interesting that anyone would just give a stranger their full address, when I specifically said, "don't give me your address, just the zip code" when I still thought this was a legitimate transaction. I never responded to her and immediately flagged her craigslist posting, but that was my experience with this "Anna" character. I'll be interested to hear what she says in response to your post as well.

Hope this helps! Thanks again everyone and be careful!

This is still a scam... people be aware!

Ironically, I have family in Milano and sent this in response:

Hey Arianna,

I'm really interested in this, especially because I have a brother in Milano that I visit occasionally. I try to visit whenever I can to snowboard in the winter. I've actually passed through Torino a few times going to Bardonecchia...

I just spoke with my brother earlier today about this transaction and he will be able to meet you in person to pay for the TV and can bring it with him on the plane when he visits next month for Thanksgiving. This way you won't have to pay for shipping and he can just check it as luggage on the plane.

What is your schedule looking like for tomorrow? I can have my brother meet you any time you are available. I just need to give him a heads up since it's already almost 7:30 over there...

Thanks

We'll see what she responds with, if she does...

Good Luck!

This Arianna person is now going as "Arianna Snyder" but now living in Torino, Italy. Offering to sell a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV for $370 through the shipping place of TNT. Many of the messages that I got from her were almost exact wording as the above posts. After reading all of the complaints, which I'm glad I did. I sent her a message to end all communication with me and the transaction. I found the listing on Craigslist also, so she is still out there trying to screw good honest people out of their hard earned money!

So if you got scammed by this by the exact Arianna scheme that was mentioned above, is there anyway I can get my money back by any chance? What do you do if you sent the money off? This is so frustrating seeing this after I waited multiple days after sending the payment and being told to await the shipment. I should have known better... can anyone tell me what to do?

Hi, I just got the same scam on Craig's List...here are the emails

Email#1

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 46" Sony LCD, 1080p full HDTV from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Torino, Italy.
I am selling the 46" Sony LCD, 1080p, full HDTV, 120 Mhz for $370 USD. I have attached some pics so you can see the condition of the TV.
The TV is still available and I hope you are still interested. This TV was ordered brand new 4 months ago.
About the TV I can say it is 4 months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $370 price is everything the TV came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The TV still has warranty for the next 20 months. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
The TV is here with me in Italy.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have used the TV mostly for the news and movies, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
One more thing, the TV is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

Please get back to me and let me know if you like the TV if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Arianna

Well the [censor]! strikes again. Apparently she has a couple of macbook airs she wants to ged rid of... RIGHT?! this time all the way from GREECE, SHE IS GOING INTERNATIONAL WITH HER BUSINESS.

Similar to all the post here. I knew it was fishy right from the start, but of course i gave her the benefit of the doubt, and sent her an email asking if she has paypal account. She replied with the TNT service, totally ignoring what i said about paypal. Thats when i knew it was a scam, so i decided to waste her time, and play around with her a little bit since i was bored. She kept going off asking for my address and my name. Finally i got bored again and never answered again.

Be careful! I wish there was a way to put a stop to this and track this jerk down, but it looks like thats not gonna happen anytime soon. This [censor] actually thinks that they can steal money and probably identities from people with ease.

this is what she sent me...

Hi,

The MacBook Air is still available, but I'm currently in Athens, Greece. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States and I had to move at my sister in Greece ( here I found a good job ) .
The laptop is here with me in Greece.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
Please get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Anna

I almost fell for this scam as well. Thank you so much for all of you posting these. The listing I responded to was for a practically brand new Macbook Air being sold by someone named Anna Halley.

here is the first email she sent me:
"Hi,
The MacBook Air is still available, but I'm currently in London, England. Because of the financial crisis, I lost my job in United States and I had to move at my sister in United Kingdom ( here I found a good job ) .
I don't need the laptop anymore so I tried to sell the laptop locally, but with no luck. I was offered silly money for the laptop because of issues like - it is a US version or the warranty doesn't work here or that it has a US keyboard format. That's why I'm trying my luck in the US.

Then when I said that I actually have a cousin who lives in London and is willing to pic it up for me, I asked her what part of London she lived in and what her zip code was..she avoided the question and said:

"In what area lives your cousin?
I found a way to sell the laptop that will be safe for both of us. It's a worldwide delivery company called TNT. They have a service that will allow you to test the laptop before I receive my payment.
Please go to the TNT website below and read their procedure so we can be on the same page:

http://ship-eutnt.com/express.london.depot.overseas.transactions.html

I will pay the TNT shipping fee.

..I then once again asked for her zip code and she never responded..that's when I looked everything up and found this..so I once again want to thank all of you so much for posting these comments here!

Guys and Gals,

Hers is a fresh new scam from London, UK! Her name is Alison Stevens I got this e-mail from a scammer who placed an ad with "too good to be true' Nikon Digital Camera D3x worth $6, 000.00 for asking only a meager $1, 600.00!

Here are two successive e-mails I got from this scammer in 3 HOURS!

from Alison Stevens

" I'm really glad you're interested in this item. It used to belong to my husband the judge gave it to me after the divorce and I have no use for it. I just want to get rid of it as soon as possible because the money and time he spent on it was one of the main reasons for our divorce.I'm not really good at this stuff... all I know is it's working perfectly and has never had any problems. After the divorce I moved back to my mother's in London along with all my belongings ... this blasted thing included. I'll ship it using an international service at no charge for you. The listed price is the real price. I'll even send the shipping receipt to my husband so that he sees what happened to his beloved stuff.Because I can't explain much about the item technical stuff I'll offer a 10 day return option.
If you're serious about buying the item, email me back so that I can explain how this will work.

from Alison Stevens Tue, Sep 28, 2010 at 5:16 AM

The shipping company we will use is called TNT and is a well known shipping company here in europe.Let me explain how the transaction will go step by step: first I go to TNT with the package and start the delivery procedure, after I give them the package for you, TNT will send you a notification to let you know the process has been initiated, and give you instructions on how to complete the payment to their company's payment agent. After they secure the money they will release the package to be delivered to your address and keep the payment until you receive and check and test it.If all is ok with the item you need to contact TNT to give them the OK to pay me, if not, an agent will come to your house to refund your money and get the package to send it back to me.If everything is clear send me your name and address and I will go to the nearest TNT office and start the delivery procedure. Please let me know soon because I have alot of offers for this item and I would like to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Thanks again,

She is now Arianna Russell!
Still trying to sell the Sony Bravia TV. Does she think people are stupid? This is why google was made to save our butts. She is stating that she use to live on the gulf coast and that is why it is on craiglist down here. Then she tried to get me to use that TNT shipping thing and I was like um no. I told her i googled her and shes busted and not to write me again. When are these people going to get in trouble?

Hahaha, I love it! These scams are so entertaining, it just really sucks that some people actually fall for them. I always 'Google' everything and I'm glad I do for these such reasons.

I've been looking on Craigslist for a Macbook (old or new) for my boyfriend when I saw one entitled: Quick Apple MacBook Pro machine for sale. - $500 (Tampa). I sent an email to the person on 8/9/10 and didn't receive a response until 8/11/10. That's when the infamous 'Laura Owens' started emailing me, here's the string of emails I received (I've also attached the pics she sent). The first one from her had a title from a Craigslist ad I never emailed:

Subject: Re: 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, 2, 66 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb Memory, 500 Gb HD, iSight Camera for $500

Hi, this is Laura and I am getting back to you regarding the 15" Unibody MacBook Pro from Craigslist.

I am now in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
I am selling the 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, with 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb memory, 500 Gb HD for $500 USD.
I hope you are still interested in buying it.
This Macbook Pro was ordered brand new directly from Apple on August 28th, 2009.
About the laptop I can say it is 11 Months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $500 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The laptop still has Applecare warranty until August 28th, 2010. The Applecare warranty is fully transferable to the new owner. You can also purchase 2 more years of Applecare warranty.
I tried to be a thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used.
The laptop has the Leopard 10.6 OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office 2008 with the original recovery disks included.
One more thing, the laptop is an US version and it works on the US power and plug system so you do not need a converter to use it in the US.

I will send an email shortly with the complete specs and some photos so you can see the condition.

Get back to me and let me know if you like the laptop and you wish to buy it.

Thanks,
Laura

Hello

I am glad to see you are still interested. The laptop is with me in the UK and if we decide to go ahead with the deal we will need to find a safe delivery and payment method.
I am looking to complete the deal within a week, so please let me know if you have the funds available at this time or if you will have the money within the week.
If you have the money I am ready to go ahead with the transaction right away.
Let me know
Cheers

Laura

Laura,

Although I’m very interested in purchasing the computer from you, I just feel that this transaction is too risky. If you have family or a friend who still lives in Tampa or somewhere around Florida and you could send the computer to them so that I could meet them in person to do the exchange; that would be better for me. I hope you understand, $500 is a lot of money to be sending to someone I don’t know for something I may not ever get. Thanks for all the information though, it would’ve been nice if you were still in the states.

Thanks,

XXX

Obviously we need a safe way to complete this deal that will allow us to make sure we receive what we are after.
I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the laptop within 3-4 days.
I was looking for a safe way to complete this sale and I have found a way for us to complete the deal safely and fast, and in this way you will receive the laptop in less than 3 days.
The solution is provided by the worldwide shipping company TNT.
They have a service which will provide us with a safe way to handle the payment and delivery of the laptop.
With this procedure you will have the chance to test the laptop before I receive my payment, and the TNT procedure will ensure my safety as well in receiving the payment. And since TNT will also take care of the delivery this will go very smooth and fast.
The procedure is explained on the TNT website. I saved the exact link so please click on the link below to the TNT website where the procedure is explained.

Laura,

I went to the website and it looks legit but unfortunately I Googled it and got a bunch of hits about this being a scam. It seemed too good to be true anyway, why would you be selling a macbook pro for US $500? The Euro’s exchange rate is higher than USD and all anyone would need is a converter. Thanks anyway. By the way, maybe you guys should look to change your names around and your places of employment (The Barnt Green Inn is a pretty popular place to work). Your emails are all over the internet.

Also, how much do you guys get paid to do these sort of scams (is it an hourly rate or are you salaried)? Is it a group of people working together or just one person and they get to keep all the profits? I’m actually pretty interested in this if you don’t mind answering these questions.

Thanks and good luck scamming someone else,

Just thought I'd chime in here.

This "TNT Shipping" company is basically using another company's good name, that being TNT Logistics, which I think has since been renamed to Cega Logistics.

Ceva/TNT certainly do not have their headquarters in some [censored]hole in Africa, that's for sure!

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 64GB 3G iPad from Craigslist

My name is Arianna and I am now in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
I am selling the ipad for $450 USD. I have attached some pics with it to this email.
The ipad is still available and I hope you are still interested. The ipad was bought brand new from Apple a few weeks ago.
About the ipad I can say it's in perfect shape, as I used it only for a few weeks. Included in the $450 price is everything that came with the ipad.
The ipad is here with me.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.

Please get back to me and let me know if you like the ipad if you're really interested in buying it.

Thanks,
Arianna

I have had an identical exchange with the same person/company/scam; they sure do have an impressive set of cojones... It looks as though CraigsList isn't doing their part to take care of these folks either:

Included in the $350 price is everything the TV came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The TV still has warranty for the next 20 months. The warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.
