I bought a Tissot watch roughly two and a half to three years ago.
The value of the watch was R6000.00.
Roughly a month ago, the mode button would stay stuck in when pressed causing the functionality of the other three buttons not to work. After a while, the 'stuck' button would release itself and the watch would be fine until the same button was pressed again.
I decided to send the watch in for repairs thinking that it would be a simple fix.
I just received a quotation from Swatch Group of R3 825.00! I phoned the Swatch Group and queried the price. Marlene Sunker, the manager, told me that I needed the watch casing replacing as well as a full service.
After pointing out that the casing had nothing to do with the functionality of the faulty button, she replied that it was an option for me and that I did not have to take it! She said the reason why the casing was on the quote was due to dents on the rear side of the titanium case. I have never seen any dents on the rear side of the TITANIUM watch. Not taking the casing would knock off R1500.
That leaves me with a bill of R2250.00 to repair one button that occasionally sticks.
Is this legal?

I just spoke with a Tissot repair representative who said that they would not honor the 2 year warranty because we bought the watch on-line thru AAFES - the military webstore. Their company voids any warranties of watches that are bought on-line.

I being a watchmaker myself dealing with repairs must agree that these agent's have lost the plot. All of these should have been very simply repairs but I deal with these people every day and they are very exspensive for no valid reason.
just my 2 cents worth

It seems steep given I dropped my TAG and cracked the glass, and then had moisture get into the watch, the total repair for a mess up was R2500.00 for the glass and servicing the watch, as for the optional extras like the hands and dial, that totalled another R1, 500.00, but it was clearly spelled out to me.

I also had another TAG with a sticky button on the chronograph, to fix plus a service was R1, 700.00 and if the case needed refurbishment another R800 (which I didn't take as I am always knocking it, or my wife is dropping it).
