The Salvation Army USA bell ringer

The man ringing the donation bell outside of the Giant on Cloister Pkwy in Ashburn VA Wednesday morning 12/6 was asking anyone who would listen if they would approve of the death penalty for Robert Mueller. This was completely inappropriate and tasteless. When someone is supposed to be spreading Christmas cheer and asking for donations for the needy, he should not bring politics into the mix, especially in such a crass way.

The Salvation Army USA management/ hours

I'm a newer employee and I get a new schedule every week like everyone else at my store. My manager at the store I work at asked on day if I could change my hours on 12/7/17, I told her yes as long as it was not Saturday because I had made plans with family. I went to check my hours the day she told me that she was going to change my hours 12/7/17 and when I looked I noticed she had changed three days after telling me she was only changing the before mentioned date, she had even scheduled me on the Saturday. I'm not the only one at this store that has had this happen to them. I believe it is wrong for the manager of the store to do this to us and would be very appreciative if something was done about it. Thank you

The Salvation Army USA customer service

Salvation Army Thrift Store
4640 Whipple Ave NW
Canton, OH 44718

Saturday night, cashier didn't take 50% off of a $6 item. Store was closed by time I got home to call. Closed Sunday. Went back Monday, 610 pm. The blonde lady working didn't know what to do because it was the other cash register. Told me to step aside so she can ring up people in the line and call her boss. She rings up 2 people and never called anyone. I asked her if she was going to call someone before ringing up the line. She said no. I was pissed. Walked out. Called the store. She answered. I asked to talk to the manager. She claims she was the manager. I asked to talk to her boss. She claims she was the boss and hung up on me.
That was absolutely rude of her to make me stand there and wait while she rang up the entire line without calling someone first. All for a mistake an employee made! She was a total [censor]... Sry, best word to describe her. She shouldn't be working with customer service. She should be in the back pricing.

The Salvation Army USA fausley & unprofessionally accused of tampering with tags

To Whom It May Concern:

On December 1, 2017, at approximately 5:35 PM, after an hour and a half of shopping, I was both UNPROFESSIONALLY and FALSELY accused of "tampering with tags" by Guthrude, whom identified herself as a supervisor, at your Redford location. I call this location my home location, because it's the Salvation Army store in which I frequent the most.

Guthrude rung up over 50 items, mainly clothing and brick, which were buy one/get one free (via a FB post) before coming across two items for $0.49 and $0.69 to accuse me of "tampering with tags." I was so EMBARRASSED while standing in line! Other customers in line/in the store were all starring at me. I've never been SO humiliated in my entire life!

When I shop at stores like Von Maur, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Lane Bryant, Torrid and other mid/high-end establishments, I never endure such treatment, lack of respect and/or humiliation. Even other thrifting establishments such as Grace Centers of Hope, Goodwill and St. Vincent treat me with more dignity and respect and they see me less often.

NEVER in my life have I been accused of such a degrading thing! Even Guthrude's colleague, another supervisor, whom always shows customer appreciation when I go into the store, apologized and offered me a $20 store credit (and she wasn't even the offended). She even mentioned how often I frequent the store and alluded to the notion that "tampering with tags" isn't my character.

I informed Guthrude that I spent over $20, 000 at Salvation Army ALONE this year and showed her bank statements on my phone to prove it. So, how DARE she accuse me of such a thug-life thing as "tampering with tags." I have class, style and grace (and look like it). I'm HIGHLY OFFENDED!

I wasted an hour and a half in the store only to leave out empty-handed and HUMILIATED. In addition to that, I missed out on the buy one/get one free promotion. Furthermore, my integrity was compromised and questioned. Something needs to be done IMMEDIATELY to rectify this matter.

I tried to work this out in-store (and not via an online complaint) when I asked to speak with a supervisor or manager. But, Guthrude rudely told me she was THE supervisor. When I asked for the manager's name/contact; she wouldn't give it to me. That, too, is unprofessional.

In closing, I'd like to make it known that Guthrude always has a nasty disposition when I come into the store. She's very short, rude and disrespectful to me (and other customers). I understand having a bad day every now and then, but she's ALWAYS cold-natured, tight-lipped and rude.

Below, you will find photos of some of the items I was accused of "tampering with" in addition to a photo of the employee in which I'm speaking of.

I can shop anywhere, so I REFUSE to be a victim of false accusations at a place where I shop the most and spend THOUSANDS of dollars annually. I'm expecting an immediate reply and compensation.

Yes you are right about "she claims" to have spent 20, 000, it may or may not be true, though I think it has no nexus with the "false accusations",

Replying to comment of

It says, "Though I did tamper with the tags", " they have me on tape", "admit to the truth", these are self-explanatory. It seems that the "false" removed from "false-accusations", unless there are some other facts that I am not aware of. In face of this the demand of compensation seems to be a ridiculous proposition.

The real point is "false accusations", accusations may be considered false until proven otherwise.

it is sad that a few give a bad name to a good-cause organization, need to be weeded out, after unbiased investigation.

Actually they have me on tape, and they want me to confess that I was tampering with the tags. They are threatening to press charges of theft if I do not admit to the truth. They are bullying me into confessing. Though I did tamper with the tags they did not have to embarrass me the way that they did. They could have talked to me quietly. I still want compensation from them for the embarrassment that they caused. Though It tampered with the tags they could have handled it differently.

The Salvation Army USA program fees/shelter fee

I lived in Florida from January 2002 to March 2010. I moved to New York March 2010 and then I moved back to Florida October 2017. As soon as I arrive in Florida October 2017 I got off of The Greyhound Bus and head directly to The Salvation Army Women's Shelter. I paid them $10.00 a night for every night that I stayed there. I am only allowed three free nights. For every night that I stayed there I paid The Salvation Army Women's Shelter $10.00 every night. I have ran out of all of the money that I had. I am looking and trying to get a job in Florida. In the meantime I need to live in a shelter until I can find employment. The Salvation Army Women's Shelter has informed me that I cannot stay in the shelter every night unless I pay the shelter $10.00 every night. They have not taken into consideration that I have already paid them all of the money that I had in my pocketbook. They are being heartless. They are not trying to help me to find employment so that I would be able to pay $10.00 a night. I cannot pay $10.00 a night without a job and without money.

The Salvation Army USA a picture that was posted / many upset and questioning christianity

The following Picture was posted on social media and as a Christian company many people are very upsetThat a Christian company would be against anybody let alone a gay person as the Bible specifically states to not judge others. Many are very upset, and many are saying that the salvation army's policy is to Not serve gays. Please confirm if this is policy or if social media has the wrong idea. I myself believe in all the help the Salvation Army offers people, and I would be appalled to know if this is the thinking of this company.

Legally yes, it can be discrimination. It is considered a protected class in most states. Not everyone believes what you do.

I am almost certain that the individual pictured does not work for The Salvation Army. While I don't work there personally, I have never heard of them having a policy that involves refusing to serve gay people.

The Salvation Army USA customer complaint

I was at the Salvation Army in Newton, Iowa.
I had several articles of clothing in the cart. I parked the cart outside the dressing room. So I could have them close to switch between what I tried on.
I know only 3 items at a time.
After I tried on 3 items, I put the 1 I wanted to keep, I was putting it back in the cart, and looking for the next item to try on, when the employee named Donna came over and starts being being extremely rude. She keeps saying you can only have 3 things in there at a time, and we don't want a mess in there.
Then she takes my cart of clothes I had not yet tried on up by the counter.
I had only 2 items in the room and the room was not a mess. Only those 2 pairs had not yet been picked up.
I have never been treated and talked to so rude.
I try on clothes like this and I observe and follow the amount allowed in the room and when I am done I always hang things up and put what I don't keep back where I found them.
I have done alot of customer service in my life. And if I had her as an employee she wouldn't be allowed to work in a area that she came in contact with customers.
The money I spend there helps the Salvation army accomplish tasks.

The Salvation Army USA service

The salvation army in Greenwood Mississippi social services representative needs a new representative. I went there for emergency assistance because I have 5 children and I'm just starting a new job. Yes I called as a last minute resort because I thought CMI was going to be able to assist me since I dont come all the time but they were out of funds. My lights are due for disconnect tomorrow and she was rude telling me she didnt have to see me, constantly staring at me asking me what do u need me to do. Whenever I ask a question she blank stares roles her eyes and tell me I'm making her job hard. So I left and I'm currently in search of another church to assist. I just feel like there should be a more compassionate person working here. My bill was pass due 707 I only asked for the 75 and that was to much to ask. The site is 45 minutes from me and I had to gather the information she told me I needed and get there. I am strapping to get to work to take care of my children. I'm not the type of person who needs help all the tome and I don't think that was fair.

First, this website is a public consumer complaints board and not directly affiliated with the Salvation Army. The minimum word requirement is set by this website. Secondly, I don't see any evidence of discrimination and I'm fairly sure there are democrats that serve in the military as well. Have you simply tried contacting them and asking about the situation?

And finally, "go duck yourself" is a very mature and classy addition to your complaint.

The Salvation Army USA the prices at the montrose, colorado thrift store

I have shopped Salvation Army throughout Utah and in Colorado and every time I go to our store here I am completely disappointed. I've never seen outrageous prices like in the Montrose Colorado store. When I questioned the manager, she stated; We compare our prices to Walmart. I questioned in shock, too Walmart? You are not a retail store, you are a thrift store. I mightest well go buy new at Walmart then. She just shrugged her shoulders and went back to what she was doing. They sell little that is thrift store prices, $7.99 for a flannel shirt $8.00 for used pants? it is not a wonder why they have an abundance of racks filled with clothing. they had a small folding table for $19.00, yes, they are regularly $41.00 NEW, but they were on sale at Sams club for $14.99 a few weeks back because I bought one. Common seriously? it is a thrift store, they should be selling for a fraction of the retail price. Last year they did a coat drive for Christmas we donated over 20 coats only to find them two weeks later hanging on the racks with price tags on them? Shame on them. I am so disgusted with this company, I will never shop nor will I ever donate to this company again! 11/15/17

The Salvation Army USA poor merchandising, poor customer service

I entered a store, 3612 Most fans Avenue, Brooklyn, NY prepared to spend $500 to furnish my new apartment. Half the furniture in the store has no price tag. I notified the lead sales clerk, a slightly heavy black woman, medium brown complexion wearing glasses. She offered me no assistance when I told her that I was ready to make a payment.

This occurred Saturday afternoon, approximately 2 pm, November 11, 2017. I walked out of your store heading for another store that I know will appreciate my business as apparently, the Salvation Army does not.

Exactly how much business do you lose on a daily basis due to your shoddy merchandising and indifferent customer service.

The Salvation Army USA rude manager

I called and asked an employee at the store if they still had a Michael Kors purse I saw the night before and was told yes. She stayed she could not hold it but thought it would be fine as my daughter was on her way and would arrive five minutes later. My daughter got there a few minutes after my phone call ended and the manager had taken the bag and bought it for herself! She was rude to my daughter and told her it was sold as soon as we for off the phone. Obviously there was not enough time for someone to have made it to the counter and bought it in less than a few minutes. So my daughter questioned that and she stated that she was the manager and it had sold as soon as she hung up with me. My daughter called me back while still in the store and I immediately called the store back. The girl who answered was rude when she answered the phone so I asked to speak to the other cashier and she refused. And then told me she was the manager and I had to speak to her. So I told her that she was very rude and we know there no way a bag would have sold that quickly unless it was to an employee. She got very defensive and rude. We have heard of story's about the manager buying things then selling them at a higher price on different sites for her own personal profit.

The Salvation Army USA administrative treatment of shelter staff

Unless you need the money, I strongly suggest not working at The Madison, Wisconsin Salvation Army Shelter on East Washington Avenue. The Housing Coordinator (initials are C.S.) continuously threatens employees that if they do not work certain shifts, that they will significantly lose work hours (possibly end up not on the work schedule at all). These threats happened regularly and made employees scared for their employment. This individual, as well as people above her, failed to take any action on when an employee submitted two complaints of discrimination/harassment regarding a supervisor. When the employee submitted the second complaint, the Housing Coordinator reduced the amount of hours that employee could work. Nothing was done to resolve this issue. Because of the continued harassment/discrimination and no action being taken, the employee ultimately resigned. C.S., the Housing Coordinator continues to treat their employees with disrespect and threats, possibly still allowing harassment/discrimination towards certain employees. These issues make it hard for employees to adequately care for the homeless population they are serving. This treatment can no longer continue and must be addressed.

Unfortunately at most what the employees can do is continue to report it to management and/or human resources. If there is true harassment or discrimination however, they could attempt to file a lawsuit if they wanted.

The Salvation Army USA salvation army

The Tampa Area command center, called for help about assistance and was hung up on and when I called back she continued to be verbally abusive and extremely rude. Refused to let us talk with anyone else and she refused to give me her name. I've never been so disrespected and hurt. She was no help nor did she try to help. It's sad she even has the opportunity to assist people when it's clear she hates them. Very upset and hurt by this.

The Salvation Army USA employees/ nutrition

Salvation Army of Temple, Texas (McClain Center of Hope) women and children shelter has employeed who once was a resident of the shelter, and with a felony. She belittles the clients, makes light and fun of their current situation, very disrespectful, has had several altercations (physical and verbally) with clients and staff members, threatens clients, and refuses services to them. Yet, they are full aware of this behaviour but pride themselves on not tolerating disrespect nor threats. She goes as far as threatening the kids that live in the shelter. Yelling and talking to them with such disrespect. Has jumped in several clients faces, followed them around the facility and intaginized them til they finally lashed back out at her. She teams up with two other staff members and make being in the shelter hell while she is on duty. We are also being served raw food (not fully cooked) served out dated food, limited portions, which for some of the kids and clients arent enough but expected to go ten hrs. without eating. Clients has also found, hair, napkins, and other things in their food. Staff members arent wearing proper attire when serving.

The Salvation Army USA fairbanks alaska salvation army facility

Salvation Army in Fairbanks, AK is very disappointing. The appointed Major has instructed the employees not to sell toys any longer, so they are throwing out donations or taking them home!
People donate in the belief that they are helping families and toys are to go to homes for other children and individuals to enjoy.
I have suggested in the past that Salvation Army implement a night worker or overnight worker who can price and sort, so there are items rolled out first thing in the morning. Too many of the workers sit and test, fiddle, and play with products that seem to never make it to the floor.
It is not difficult to manage preparation and sales of used items; however, there seems to be a real issue here in Fairbanks. Where are all the donations? Why's nothing ever put on the floor for sale? Same stuff day after day...
I would gladly come in and work nights to prepare items for the morning to be put out. in order to enhance sales in the Fairbanks location. Sales are plummeting due to lack of advertising, throwing away items, not putting sufficient amount of items out daily, etc...
This has gone on too long and needs to be addressed. With as many workers as there are, the tasks are not insurmountable. As stated, I would gladly step in to make this a productive facility... all it takes is common sense.
I apologize for the rant; however, I feel the need to make the company aware of why sales are dismal and do not want this facility to close down due to poor practices.
Thank you for your time and have a great day!
