The Norland Group Very Unprofessional Service and lousy staffs

I was recently contacted by one of the recruiter from the Norland Group, I was mad by their rude attitudes toward the candidates. The staffs in this company did not know anything about recruiting, the staffs were inpatient and do not know the job descriptions when they talked to the candidates. I heard their company through the website and found out the company has been in this industry for almost 17 years. This is unbelievable, how can a company survived in this industry in the past 17 years do not know anything about the recruiting process.

The Norland Group RUDE RUDE RUDE

Rude recruiter name Thi Nguyen called about a position and requested some information. I replied to the email with desired pay as she requested and put what she quoted as the pay. She immediately called me back, YELLING that she had not told me that was the pay rate (.50 difference btw) and that she is glad she didn't submit my resume to the company because she only wants serious applicants. REALLY? REALLY? Unprofessional and rude. I will be contacting headquarters

The Norland Group Poor Jobseeker Services

JOBSEEKERS BEWARE: Keep clear of jobs listed for a recruiting company under the name of THE NORLAND GROUP. They are located in California, but they have jobs listed NATIONWIDE.

MY STORY: I found an experience appropriate job listed through them, applied and was granted an interview. All seemed good at this point, was advised the very next day that I had a job offer & needed to fill out paperwork. As I was away from my home at the time, I asked that the recruiter e-mail me the docs so I had them upon my return. The recruiter waited until I called her from my home to send the paperwork (about 7 hours lost). I stayed up until almost midnight that night and spent OVER 6 HOURS filling out a packet of forms that was reminiscent of purchasing a home, scanning them to my system and e-mailing them back to this organization. I completed this by noon (EST) of the very next day (The Norland Group is in California & is 3 hours behind my timezone). I was advised I would get my "start date" when they were able to complete a background check. Here's the "kicker"...I've been in a job search (off and on) for a good part of the last 5 years, so I know the maximum amount of time this should take...it took the girl doing the check OVER 6 DAYS to accomplish a task that should NOT have taken more than 3 days. I coached her through a good portion of the check because she got stuck in a couple of areas and couldn't seem to figure out for herself what to do or where to go next so she moved on to something else! She NEVER bothered to call me to say she had run into any issues so I could help. I had to keep calling their office to find out where they were in the process or what still needed to get done! The point of this complaint is this: They "JACKED" around so long that by the time they had everything put together, the hiring company had become so frustrated in waiting that they found someone from within their other plant to fill this position! On the very day this recruiter from The Norland Group told me she would call me back with the start date, I had another interview with another company...but, I canceled THAT interview because I had been offered and accepted this job and was simply waiting for my recruiter from The Norland Group to give me the start date. All told, it took them almost 2 weeks to complete something that should not have taken more than 4 days! These people are interested in NUMBERS ONLY! If they have trouble with any of your information...they will put you on the "back burner" and you will VERY likely lose your opportunity.

MY ADVICE TO YOU: If you can find out who the actual company is (look for clues in the job description) and go to their website to search for the job and apply straight through the actual hiring company. You will likely get the job at more pay and as a regular employee and not have to suffer the loss of a portion of your pay or be a temporary employee through some lame recruiting agency such as this!

In response to "x-x": While I appreciate your rebuttal on behalf of this 2nd rate recruiting agency, your arguments don't hold up in this case for the following reasons: 1. The job I was contacted for by this recruiting agency WAS, indeed, posted on the website of the hiring company (I just didn't know it at the time...I found it later)...additionally, other recruiters had it posted with also. I know this because when I was contacted by this lousy recruiting company, they asked me if I had already been contacted by another agency for this position! They were pulling the information off the internet and posting it as a position offered through THEM! 2. The background check WAS being done by an individual in their office. I know this because I kept calling to find out the status so I could make sure things were getting done. I was transferred to the girl doing the check and found that while she was calling my past employers, she REFUSED to leave messages so they could call her back! I took the initiative to call and ask THEM to call HER! The other issue was that she said the school in which I had received my GED advised her that they didn't keep the GED records archived at that school, so THEY could not verify my certificate. When I called to find out how she was doing on this issue, she said SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHERE ELSE TO GO OR WHAT TO DO NOW... even after I E-MAILED HER A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL! I had to get online to the School Board of Education in my graduating state, to find out how they could go about verifying this information for this inept recruiting company. On the afternoon in which I was cleared and was told they would call me back when they had set my "start date", the hiring company had already decided they were going to pull someone from one of their other facilities to fill this position. It was because of this woman's laziness and ineptitude that caused me to lose this job! If she had have left messages and researched a little deeper, she could have had my background check done in 3-4 days instead of the 6 days it took her!

The Norland group is the worst company to work with, the staff were unprofessional. They can't help you to find a job and they always quote the lowest pay rate for the candidates. I do not understand how the company like that can survive in this harsh environment.

Just an addendum to the advice given - I have previously worked in recruiting and understand the processes of a recruiting agency. If you can find out the actual company, you are free to search and apply to any positions listed on their job board, but most often, the positions that recruiting agencies have access to are not available to the general public. My point: if you searched on the company website, you may have found a few positions to which you were interested in applying, but most likely, you would not have seen, interviewed for, nor received an offer for that position from The Norland Group.

As for the delay in the hiring process, I cannot speak for The Norland Group. I do know, however, that employees are usually required to clear a background check (among other pre-employment screenings), so it might be due to the background check company. I remember a few cases where the screenings took SIX WEEKS to clear. We called the background check company DAILY and provided more information than necessary, and still could not get them to move any faster. Unfortunately, we were bound by contract to use this specific company (per the client), so our hands were tied. Needless to say, those employees that received the offer could not wait - the background check cleared two days after they backed out.
