This book company called this scam a "contest". I bit and sent (e-mail) a picture of my cat. I was congratulated a few weeks later and told my cat had been selected to appear in their book, "The Most Adorable Pets in America" - 2011 edition. Then they wanted me to pay $59.95 (discounted) for a copy. Can they use my pet's picture without either giving me a copy of the book since I "won" in their contest or getting my explicit permission to use it? What a low-down outfit this must be.

I too sent a pic of my little pom dog and I too got a letter to buy the book, wasn't sure there wasa book so I didn't mail in for it so I decided to look up the book today just to see if I could find it and see if my baby was in the book and I found this article. My candy meant the world to me and my husband and would love to know others thought so too she is gone now so sure would like to purchase the book even with the high cost and yes we do need a better price or discount if our pets are featured! I also entered this and I did pay the $19.95 for the book. The book was delivered last week and it is ok. I was a little disappointed with the size of the pictures. There are 4 pictures on the top half of the pageand the bottom is left open for anyone's comments about their pets. Even though the pictures are small both of my boys are in there and it is on my coffee table for other people to see. I actually like it. I would not have paid $70 for it but I believe it was worth the $39.95 that I paid. I will keep this book forever along with all the other pictures I have of them. The book is a hard cover and actually very nice. Like I said I just wish the pictures were a little larger.

I fell for it at first. I entered the contest by sending my pet's picture. Then they sent me an email telling me I had won but to confirm i had to give them my cell phone number along with a payment ( I am not sure how much exactly but it was either 15$ or 20$). I was not going to give them my info much less any money. I do not have a cell phone anyways so i just cancelled the whole thing, yet they disregard that i had not fulfilled all the criteria needed to be a participant. They still bug me with my pet having won and being in the book. Just that in itself proved to me that this was just a scam. I just cannot understand that this has been going on for more then one year ( since i got bugged for the 2012 issue while other people here are talking about a 2011 one).

I don't have a cell phone so I cancelled it all, but since the picture had been sent in the step before, they still pretended to include me and yes of course, like everyone else, i won... I just delete all those emails since then. I did not trust them to begin with, and i certainly did not trust them when they asked me for money.

I too submitted a picture of my puppies...and my picture too was "selected" to be in this book. As soon as I got the email about their "special offer" I immediately suspected a scam. I am glad I googled the book title and found this forum and unhappy participants. They can keep my picture, as I did agree when I submitted the picture that they could use it. I agree with those that wrote if this is such a great book then they should offer us the book for free, because if it was not for us they wouldn't have a book to sell.

I sooooo agreee with what everyone else is saying. This is such a scam! I want to see my dogs picture in the book. But no, they want me to buy the book for $60! And also, they didn't ask for my permission to use the picture of my dog.. And really..is there even a book?

There is a disclosure at the bottom of the email which pretty clearly states that you are paying to have your animals picture published in the book. I received the email too and I had not submitted my pets picture - either someone else did or they pulled it from Facebook. I choose not to pay attention to the email - it's spammed now.

I also submitted my pitbull Gemma Pel's picture, like everyone else was selected to be in the book. I don't really care if I get a copy of the book but it would still be cool if it was real because then whoever actually buys it gets to see how beautiful my lil girl is, if its not real oh well what did it really hurt it only takes 20 seconds to erase the emails from them but they aren't getting any of my information that's for sure and anyone who was stupid enough to give them more than their email deserves what they get, you should gaurd that info with your life.

Yep, my puppy Diesel (German Shepherd mix), was so called "selected out of millions of entries to be entered in the running towards winning $1, 000."
At first I was excited thinking we might actually have a chance at winning a lot of money, I mean he is a very cute puppy.
They now send me an email literally every other day telling me I have a limited amount of days to buy a copy of their book. Which is $60.00!
I was like hell no! I shouldn't have to pay for my own dog's picture just because he is in a book.
THEY GOT US EXCITED FOR NOTHING! IT IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!

WELL I WAS ONE OF THE EGOTISTICAL ONES THAT ENTERED OUR BERNESE MT DOGS AND YES I PAID $59.95 & GUESS WHAT?... I RECEIVED A BOOK! A VERY THIN HARD COVER BOOK WITH A SMALL PHOTO OF MY DOGS. EVERYBODY ELSE HAD LARGE PHOTOS AND PARAGRAPHS/PAGES OF STUFF TO SAY ABOUT THEIR PETS. SO I WAS PISSED OFF ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE PHOTO AND THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A STORY UNDER MY PHOTO FOR THE PRICE I PAID SO I E-MAILED THEM & THEY RESPONDED AND ACTUALLY PUT MY PHOTO IN THE NEXT EDITION, LARGER WITH A VERY LONG STORY I WROTE ABOUT THEM! THEY WERE VERY NICE AND COOPERATIVE. I RECEIVED TWO BOOKS FOR $59.95 AND NOW MY DOGS ARE IN THE 2010 AND 2011 EDITIONS. HAHAHA LOL! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE CONTEST PRIZE MONEY, BUT THEY DID REAL WELL ON THE BOOKS. AT LEAST THIS TIME ANYWAY. GOD BLESS ~

Just ignore. Block from your email. There is nothing you can do about. It's an automated email they send to everyone, every day. Chances are.. no one received all of the ticked off emails everyone has sent. Just something you have to brush off your shoulder. Just be proud you weren't such a gullible person to actually purchase the book. I too sent my handsome yorkie in. Hey! If the book comes out on shelves, pick up a copy and laugh :) If not, it's not the end of the world.

I just got the email this morning saying our cat was selected. Luckily, I did a little research before buying the book. I sent the company an email that I never want to hear from them again or I will press charges for fraud. Will see what happens.

The same thing happened to me . It was a contest - get votes for your pet and the pet with most votes wins $1, 000 and then entered into the $10, 000 contest. But to "vote, " you have to give your cell phone number. Now I am getting the same e-mails about my pet being selected for the book and to BUY the book for $59.95.

Hopefully all these complaints will bring an end to the scam or at least prevent other pet owners from falling for the same scam.

Me too. I figured it was a rip-off right after I entered the contest... I posted the link on my facebook and in order to vote for the picture of my cat they would've had to go through a bunch of advertising gimmicks. Ridiculous. I can't stand scammers! Wasted my time!

QUOTE (from Disgusted Self) "What a way to get a bunch of FREE photos of other peoples pets and then gain the fruits of our labor and not to mention stealing our adorable little family members for their advantage!"

UMM... what labor? You took a snapshot, pressed a button, probably had the picture anyway and dug it up or found it on your computer... also, they didn't "steal" your actual pet. They really didn't even steal the picture. You submitted it to them.
I fell for it too... I entered a picture of my puppy and have been getting e-mails. I just ignore them. They can use the picture. I really don't care, but I'm not paying them $70 for the book. I suspect every single picture entered will be publshed and you'll need a magnifying glass to see the pictures. Even when they say "your pets photo was chosen from thousands"... technically, they're not lying. They just didn't say, "by the way, those other thousands were also chosen!"
It is shady... but as for it being a true scam, I think we will just have to wait for the book to come out (if anyone ordered it, I sure didn't). If they deliver and publish your pets photo, then it really isn't a scam... misleading, yes...

BUT, the prizes that I vaguely remember being advertised... including a $10, 000 prize? if those were not real, that would surely be a scam. They would get around it though... I would almost guarantee that they did/will select a "winner" and the money will find itself right back into their bank account. Dishonest? yes. Scam? probably but who can prove it? If you ordered the book, let us know if it comes. For those of you who feel "violated", I doubt your dog's identity is in that much danger...

it is a scam i entered my pet golden retriever and supposedly my dog was chosen to be in a 10, 000 dollar competition, then they said they would put his picture in a book. i thought it would be nice to give as a gift so i purchased the book for69.95 and it never came... not only that but they kept taking money from my banking account good thin i found before they can take away all of... all i'm saying is to ignore them and don't give them any information!

I got the same email about my kitten and thought hey that would be a great book to have. then I decided to do a little research on amazon and barnes and noble and found out the book has never been published. I almost bought the book. I don't mind them having my baby's picture but I almost got caught up in the scam also. If I hadn't goggled it I would have bought the book. Beth Murphy

I just received an email informing me that my dog was selected to be apart of America's Most Adorable Pets. I can't imagine that they would have the right to use my dog's photo in some book that I have to pay for without some signed contract. Do they have the right to publish the photos since I submitted his photo? I wasn't aware that my baby's photo would be used for a book!

Have you read the details of the contest or any fine print on their website/email (whichever one that led your contact)? If they had written anywhere that your pictures may be published, then unfortunately, by sending them the photos you have given them your consent.

However, if there was no outline detailing it, I'm not of the opinion that they can just go ahead and publish without permission.
