I had the unique misfortune of working for THE BASEMENT DOCTOR as well, it was the worst company I every worked for. I really like Tom Johnston great guy, best person at the company. Their call center is a joke, had to depend on the salesman to sell to get a tiny % of the sale as bonus. Kept changing the bonus structure so you could not bonus, and pay very little per hour and expect you to work like your making $20.00 an hour. Nit Pick everything you do, belittle everyone that is not family, OH did I mention everyone is related and if your not related you are a nothing and they let you know it. One manager has OCD ADHD and takes everything like itsa personal attack on her if anything happens, and then over reacts makes a fool of herself and talks about her big Boss like a dog, and always says I'll find another job if she (her boss) keeps it up...she never does...the team leads are great. I left this company and never looked back just to find out a week later that they told the insurance company I quite 2 days earlier than I did so they would not cover some stuff. I have filed a complaint...They know their wrong but hope that their GOOD NAME will get them through...their good name is the only thing Good as far as the ethics go...my opinion.

I had the distink misfortune to work at the basement dr, it is run by a man name tom johnston who is SLOWLY losing his memory. This company will do anyghing and everything to steel money from their sales people as of right now they owe me over $12, 000.00 in back commissions. They fired me after i had a heart surgery and was put on linited work load when i said i could not run a lead because it called for me to crawl in a crawl space with my heart monitor they also charged me $250.00 a month to drive their car for work and i had to carry insurance on it also. They say they pay gas mileage agajn a lie what they do is give u a check for gas milage but deducted it out of your paycheck that pay period. As far as the sales part to all this they have lost their biggest supplier because they could not pay thier bills to them. They are a big scam from bottom to the top.And i now am in litigation with them i keeped all my paperwork and customer commision files .

Who do they think they are, if the code department did their job right the first time, when the original permit was issued we wouldn't have this problem would we. Most home I waterproof are less than 5 years old- are poorly built and poorly inspected! codes is just another tax with no service

Results of the Columbus Contractors Board Hearing of May 5, 2020, concerning The Basement Doctor's failure to pull permits allegations.

At the hearing on May 5th, Mr. Dave Daniels, chief inspector of the City Development Dept, and Secretary of the Contractors Board, testified that the City had access to over 600 names of customers which had work completed by The Basement Doctor, Licensed under the name of J&D Home Improvement Inc.

Mr. Daniels further advised the board that J&D had pulled over 140 permits in the City since July of 2007. One water proofing job in 2008 was found to have not had a permit issued, J&D promptly pulled the permit for the home where the work was performed. The work was inspected by the City and found that all aspects of the work was according to City Code, and the homeowner was 100% satisfied with the work. Many of the names on the anonymous list that was sent to the City, were found not to have been within the City of Columbus jurisdictions, so no permits were required.

No home owners that the City contacted expressed any dissatisfaction with the work performed, or The Basement Doctors ethics. The Board found that a permit should have been pulled in this one case, but took no action against J&D or Tom Johnston the licensee.
