My personal checks have been declined more than once in stores in my small community! I have called the toll free numbers given to me and they confirm the fact there is really no reason to reject my personal checks that can be found in their files...seems now the ONLY reason is that my bank (credit union) refuses to disclose to them or any one other than the account holder the amount of funds in checking and or savings accounts. I spoke to my credit union and I was told that Telecheck knows better than to ask for such information because the credit union is obligated to protect their clients private information. I was also informed that not only credit unions have this policy but many banks are taking on the same policy.

For those that state...who writes checks any more? Many people write checks because they feel safer doing so. Period! My other complaint about Telecheck...the practice of stores running personal checks threw their Telecheck scanner with no requirement of the check being completely filled out or signed per the check writer and no ID of any form requested! That is complete insanity...any one can steal checks and have a shopping field day.

If there is a law suit against Telecheck I will jump in...not for any money but to slap Telecheck back down to earth and to quit causing shame to honest people. It is terrible to be declined per Telecheck in a local store, treated like a criminal by some and listen to other customers snicker as one calls Telecheck in the store to find out what the heck and still be turned down. Small communities gossip and I am sure my name has been slandered horribly!

I just had the same experiences, and after: three phone calls, public embarrassment, and Two Hours of wasted time, I was simply told to "call back tomorrow!"

Telecheck screwed me, too. $10K plus in my account. Same on that I use to write checks for thousands of dollars. Still, Telecheck bounced me twice for a $220 check to Amazon stating my largest check they've processed is $43. They suggested that I, "start with small check amounts and build up." Yeah right! Why am I ever going to use my bank account again? I'm not- I'm going to use my credit card every time. Sorry Telecheck! When I want to exceed my credit limit at least my cc companies have a review process. Hey Telecheck, try paying your executives a little less and spending a little more on building out your services to your customers. Think you can do that? Or are you like many other corporations whose sole purpose has been to squeeze as much as possible from staff level employee and customers. Jeesh, what is this country coming to? Time to speak up as a society and demand more for what we pay and give. Too much is being given to the top at our expense. Sad.

Today was my turn with the telecheck nightmare. After my check was declined, I immediately called my bank and they told me they had no idea why my check was declined as my account has more than sufficient funds and I could prove I was the account owner. The Home Depot checker and manager refused to talk to my bank, but they called telecheck again to provide a reason for my check being declined. After asking for all of my personal info., they told me my check was denied because I had no history of writing checks with Home Depot, which is probably true considering I used my credit card for all transactions prior to someone stealing my credit card number and creating a card which they swiped to go on a Christmas spending spree. I called the stores who had allowed the purchases and asked if they had taken down the I.D. of whoever made the purchases but, apparently, both stores had allowed purchases of over $100.00 each without even checking I.D., and, now, for the first time in my life I can't even cash a check, even with my I.D.? I don't know if the Home Depot store manager could have overridden the decision of telecheck, however, she said she couldn't and she gave me the option of opening a credit account with them, which is the last thing anyone would choose who had just found out their credit card account number had been used fraudulently. Considering the thousands of dollars I've spent at Home Depot, I would say they just lost a valuable customer, but I'm sure they think they're too big to fail. Time will tell.

We had over $3, 000 in checking account and the local grocery store declined a $41.00 check that my wife wrote. I had written a check at this same store a day earlier and my wife had just shopped at Walmart an hour prior to the local grocery store...without any problems writing a check there. I was HOT...as this was very embarrassing to my wife. Fortunately, she had enough cash to cover the sale. I called the local grocery store and the Manager that I spoke to said that she had had the same thing happen to her at this store where she is a manager. She gave me Telecheck's 800 number and I called them. I was then "routed" to the Philippines where I spoke to a lady that took the code off of my wife's receipt. She said that Telecheck can't check the amount in an account...that they have certain "perimeters" that they check for but wouldn't give those to me. She said that she was going to "flag" my checking account so that this wouldn't happen again. Why did it happen in the first place? We typically use a debit card on this account but we had used a card on a Target transaction and Target had recently had a scam where 40 million transactions were breached. We closed our debit cards and are expecting new ones any day. I plan on calling the corporate offices of this local grocery store and talk to their CFO and raise a serious stink about Telecheck. From reading other posts...my case seems to be typical.

Telecheck is going down if it takes my last breath. We can beat this system if we ban together. After all we are free americans aren't we. They have gotten me twice. This last time was because of insufficient funds that were in my account. Then I went to my account and the check had not even been posted to my account. Then I looked for other checks that I wrote the very same day and guess what, yea they cleared. I am going to visit my lawyer.

I too have had a terrible experience with Telecheck while shopping at my local Office Depot. Fifteen years in business and this was the first time one of my checks has been refused, and twice in one week. Surely, there has to be some sort of legal action that can be taken against these bullies to avoid further embarrasment towards good paying customers. I've written several emails and made several calls to both Office Depot and Telecheck voicing my complaint.

The Telecheck CSR manager indicated two reason for the rejection of my business check. The first is because I exceeded my normal amount of check writing of one check per day, and the other was exceeding my normal check writing amount of $500 or less. I was also informed that Telecheck cannot guarantee that any future checks will be accepted because each check will be treated individually at the time they’re presented. Needless to say I didn’t receive any satisfaction or assurance that I can write checks at any business that utilizes Telecheck. And by the way, I write well over 150 checks per month of which many far exceed $500.00.

Telecheck can kiss my A**.

Just found out that a service known as Early Warning Service is part of TeleCheck"s information provider.

I called Early Warning Service and was informed that the reason our check was denied at Home Depot was that they could not find a bank account for us.

This is really funny being that Early Warning Service is owned by Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Wachovia banks...

Anyone, who has had an adverse affect with TeleCheck or Early Warning Service, please send a brief description of the problem you had, your name and address to:

I just ran into a situation Saturday at Home Depot with TeleCheck. It seems that Home Depot has started using TeleCheck. We have always written checks with no problems at Home Depot and have spent Thousands of dollar"s. This time our check was declined. Reason given by TeleCheck on Saturday was that our bank account was closed.? This morning ( Monday ) I called our bank to check our account and everything was fine. I then called TeleCheck back and got a different reason by a recording that ask for the Seven digit number and was told that we were outside of the risk guidelines of TeleCheck and would not be able to write checks at Home Depot.

I am going to contact our Attorney"s General Office and also our Attorney"s for possible action against TeleCheck.

I just had the same thing happen to me today. Except telecheck first told me they could not verify that I had an account with the bank. After calling my bank and calling telecheck again they changed their story and told me they could not verify my funds were actually in my account. I'm all in for a class action. Those people are stupid.

I had the same thing happen to me today at the grocery store I always shop at. I always pay in cash ( I usually spend less this way), but with holiday weekend I wasn't able to get to the bank before closing. Our credit union was also closed on Friday AND Saturday so I thought I would write a check. Big mistake; huge lines, $275 in groceries after a 1 1/2 hours of shopping and Telecheck says your check is NO GOOD! How embarrassing - and Telecheck tells me "sorry, we could not verify your funds because your bank is closed" Oh really? Isn't that what these stores expect them to be able to do? Since my family has sworn off credit cards due to the bailout, I guess we are really going to be a cash only family too. Nothing is worse than having your check declined at your local store when you know you have the money to cover it. A class action suits sounds like a no brainer- Telecheck and the retailer should have to comp their customers when an error like that is made. Any lawyers out there interested?

I have had the exact experience, twice! I was rejected twice within two weeks and the telecheck representative could not give me a reason. I have been shopping at this grocery store for 10 years and using checks. Now I will contact the store. We should not be forced into using our credit cards at the register. I would join any class action suit and I am looking into this in greater detail.
