TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Scam college program

Hello.

In June of 2007 I enrolled in this school in Broomfield, WI.

I was an adult looking to return to school.

I was sold on many amazing opportunities by taking the Med coding and med assistance program.

Come June 2008 the program suddenly ended. I was told I ran out of time. I had at least 2 more classes left.

I've had many interviews since 2008. I've been told repeatedly that these credits are worthless.

I tried to enroll in a college again in 2023. I was told that none of these credits would count. I can safely assume I spent 8000$ for nothing. I want my money back.

Desired outcome: Total refund. 8000$Business location listed as permanently closed.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu More lies and nonsense. Don't sign up for this scam fraud!!!

I wish I saw this before I signed up for this Program back in December 2020. I finished the program back in July and I honestly I wasted my money attending this program, mentors, instructors don't really reach out to you or contact you unless you are behind on grades, other than that no contact. What they also don't tell you is that you have to pay 2 loans. One through paramount 'classroom loan' and the student loan through great lakes. 6k for paramount and 9k for student loan. Total amount of the 2 loans is 15k! Waste of money. I wish I could sue this program! My financial advisor Todd Brock is a complete waste of time. He lures you into the program, he tells you this '' You don't IT experience to enter this school or get a job'. When in fact you do! Money wasted. Don't go to this school!

Desired outcome: hopefully to get refund or stop paying these 2 loans.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu I am complaining because my computer career did not hold up their commitment to help me find gainful employment.

In 2015, I was laid off from AT&T with 30 days to find employment within the company. I attended a job fair featuring seminars on Job Searching that was held by MYCC's career coach. He was very compelling and committed and I believe that if he was still with MYCC, I would not be having the problems that I have had.
Although I am not very technical, the coercive recruiter insisted that MYCC could prepare me for advancement in a technical career. Initially, she lied & said the City of Royse City was offering free grants for its citizen. We investigated, I was told only for individuals below a certain income. Nevertheless I allowed her to talk me into enrolling and taking out a student loan. In the meantime, I did find a job within AT&T, so my goal was to get my Certifications and get a better job.
While I was attending the approximate 9 month program, their stellar career coach resigned and went to work for Robert Half. After that, career coaches came & went, a couple were at least consistent with providing opportunities, however it dwindled off to the point that I never received any job opportunities. They did help me find one job, it turned out to be a 100% Commissioned Sales Job for a New Start Up with a total of 3 employees including me and the owner. Because they were unheard of, I spent a year Cold Calling & Pounding the Pavement, only to lose money while never earning a dime. They could not even reimburse me for expenses.

Desired outcome: I would like to have MyCC pay off my Student Loan & we can call it even.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Schooling

I was quoted something like 23k for the tuition equipment and software. After a month or 2 of classes I discovered this was a rip off. I immediately withdrew from the classes and still owe 7400 plus to this company in a personal loan. The company shows you fake hired reviews of success and the company in general. Everything they show you is a lie. No way anyone gets through this with any success. Instructors were horrible waste of an hour at the beginning trying to get class in order and then talk about not being suicidal and how to live our lives on the path to success every class. Then they would teach for another 90 minutes flying through the material giving answers to whoever if needed with no explanation. This company is a rip off and I do not apply enroll or go to this school you will be wasting your money. Go to an accredited university for online class not this false company out to scam everyone and their family/friends.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu It training / certification

I have gone there several years ago. I have been paying down my $25000 student loan from them which I received nothing!

They are a certification mill. You do get certified, however they promise you job and resume help which I did not get. They promise you hands on training which I never received.

My instructor couldn't even speak English! They fired 2 instructors during the 2 months I was there.

It is a total rip off! Do not waste your money like I did!

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Computer Training

MyComputerCareer.com is a certification mill; however, they 'sell' you on providing 7 certifications within 7 months with most leaving with 1 or 2 at best. $20k is high price to pay for 1 or 2 beginner certifications which are outdated... You would be better served to go to http://www.quickcert.com/ search for certification desiring (by checking job postings for qualifications and get that one or two to start) for 1/10th of the cost in much less time, then complete a few others after landing that entry role.

MyComputerCareer 'sells' you on thinking they'll land you a $50-70k job after graduation, but really you'll only get $14-$15/hour ($30k job) and be in debt $20k or more...

Makes sense to go to QuickCert or another pay by the course and move into IT as experience is what matters most in landing $60k or more IT roles.

Google MyComputerCareer and you'll find 'real' stories are ones of ex-instructors and students and more generic are the Galati family members FAKE posting about how great their company is as to scam you out of $20k or more ($24k online-seriously!)

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Information Technology higher education

BEWARE! I too am a former Instructor of MyComputerCareer.edu. This company is a Certification Mill and not a good one! They say they provide 15 certifications within their program; however, most leave with 3 or less. ($19997 for 3 certs is insane)

Unless you already have extensive IT knowledge, you will struggle with little to no real help (they just stress clocking in/out-not valuable assistance)

What they don't tell you is that out the 20+ persons who start a class, only 3-4 will usually get a job! And may of those get help desk jobs making $14/hr. I've heard from way too many students about the disappointment of not earning what was promised during the consultation (sales pitch-like used car salesman).

I worked with MYCC, I know the executives "Tony Galati and Amy Onuska (Tony's sister)". Don't cross Amy!

Most of the staff are Galati Family members who 'push down' all their work to the non-family staff members. Galati family members show up late, take long lunches, naps at their desks, leave after 6-7 hours, then have you fired if you 'turn them in'.

Like another former employee stated, they oversell, overcharge, and under deliver. They continue to focus wholly on sales and not student success. They have few scruples and will sell to anyone they can whether qualified or not! They are not selling anything you cannot get less expensive elsewhere (check out New Horizons!-they do better job for less). They make a fortune per training center while selling their 'lifetime career services' which is actually just an introduction to a recruiter. Set up LinkedIn account and you'll meet your own IT recruiters. They say they provide resume writing, but those writing have never hired IT, nor have IT experience. They just use a generic template.

Although I know that some of the staff do their best to do what they can. They have sold themselves into believing that they are changing lives. Overall they are selling a 'bait and switch', then tell the students their failure is due to their own lack of effort. Their marketing misrepresents the job market and opportunities available. The jobs go to those who have, or can represent some type of experience. No experience, no job (maybe $12/hr help desk)

They require co-signers for student loans. This is a huge flag and demonstrates that they do not believe in their own product delivering $60, 000/yr job as they promise.
-I've seen them miss-represent what they deliver, even lie about the cost comparison as they hold themselves up to the 'best' colleges and universities.

If you want to pay $20, 000 for someone to read and quiz you on past exams, I'm sure you can find great tutors at Kumon or Tutor Doctor for much less.

Sooner or later, ACCET or State Department of Higher Education will actually review their 'lack of curriculum' and sales tactics and shut them down. In the meantime, you've been warned.

Do yourself a favor and go to New Horizons or your local community college for a IT degree, or use "competency based learning"(Google that-suggested by another here and works) -For a better career & a better life with less debt without MyComputerCareer.com

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu For-Profit designed to take your money

I am a current student at the Irving (Dallas), TX campus of MyComputerCareer and I have been enrolled since July of 2015. After a lot of careful consideration and searching, I feel as if I am doing prospective students a disservice by NOT making this extremely detailed complaint about this certification program. I want everyone to read this and I will spread it as much as possible; I will be completely honest in my assessment and then follow up with a couple of good things about this place. Let me first start off by saying VETERANS AND POST 9-11 GI BILL USERS BEWARE! You have a lot of cons about this program and by the time I’m done, I hope you take this all into account with your decision to potentially enroll here as there are BETTER AND MORE FLEXIBLE options. This school was designed for-profit and is maintained by people who are slightly more two-faced than Harvey Dent. Upon arrival everything seems glorious…people working diligently, classes being held, slides showing you the money in IT, and a bunch of assurances that they are designed with YOU in mind for YOUR success. Thanks for the bait and switch. Here’s everything they don’t tell you: 1. Location a. Cons - It is located in Irving, TX. The building itself is actually fine except for the fact that it is in the worst location ever relative to traffic. The school is closed Sunday and the hours they give you are not the hours of the school being open as the labs usually close an hour before the posted time. You get access to a parking garage but the access card only works for certain hours of the day, which is normally an hour before or after your class time. This is very inconvenient but it is all the can do since the property manager is horrible. The building is also a secure building so if you arrive after hours (the school but be open but the building is locked), you could be waiting for up to an HOUR before someone comes down to let you in. This is also the ONLY campus so if you work in Frisco, guess what? You have to travel an hour and a half to their terribly placed campus in Irving. b. Pros – They have mentioned that they are looking to open 2 campuses and relocate the Irving campus to another city. This would alleviate travel times for many of us, but nothing has been done yet and the process appears to move about as fast as an intoxicated snail. 2. Class Time & Flex Hours a. Cons – I am a veteran of the Air Force and I can only speak for Veterans here. BEWARE, THIS IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORST PART OF THE PROGRAM. All of the intelligence of their staff and these people refuse to see the problem with their design. There are 2 options for classes: day or night. Day classes are a full day in length (9 to 5) and evening classes are 6pm to 10:20pm. Well, considering 90% of us work the standard hours of 9 to 5, the most reasonable option is from 6pm to 10:20pm on two nights per week. HOWEVER, AS A VETERAN YOU MUST ALSO ATTEND AN ADDITIONAL 8 HOURS PER WEEK OF FLEX TIME to accommodate being a “full time student” to receive your BAH stipend. Think about this…you are essentially spending 4 nights a WEEK at that school for 4 hours minimum. If you break it up and do a couple hours each day, you will spend up to 6 nights a WEEK at school. Do you have time for that? No. We are adults here. I have a life and a family…spending 4 to 6 nights a week at a school is completely unreasonable. I also work in Frisco, which means I have to spend an hour driving to the campus located in Irving after I leave work at 5:30pm. When you arrive at school they have an iPAD that you use to clock in…but there is NO WAY for you to check on your time as you progress. The only way is to get with an instructor or the receptionist where they will print out your time in a ridiculous format that you have to manually add up. There are no benchmarks explained to you so if you don’t ask, they will not tell you until the halfway mark of the program, but by then they will put you on academic probation for not meeting your hours. Just so you know, you will need a minimum of 96 hours of class/flex time before you can move on to the next class, and at the halfway point of your program, you will need 288 hours of class/flex time or you will be placed on academic probation…regardless of your GPA. If you have an 85% grade and 265 hours of class/flex time, these people consider that academic probation because you didn’t give up enough of your life to attend the school. The funny thing is, the school bills the VA for the ENTIRE cost of tuition upon enrollment, so the next question is…why do they go back and amend your enrollment? It isn’t as if you are failing, but the school is completely unreasonable with the class/flex time and the design is poor. They are not friendly and if you do not keep up with your own time, they will not tell you anything until it is too late. b. Pros – None. These people are horrible in this regard. 3. Financial Aid a. Cons – Again, veterans beware. You will get the run around because the only person who can answer financial aid questions is the financial aid advisor who works about 20 hours a week and does not return phone calls or emails. Moving on, the school bills the VA for the entire tuition and fees cost UP FRONT ($19, 515.00). So let’s say you are someone who is in a financial bind due to unemployment and you decide you want to take out financial aid as well, so that you can receive the overage check. Well, pay attention to how they operate as they will hold your overage check for months before giving it to you….hoping you forget to follow up. In a situation I have complete knowledge of, a veteran enrolled and had 100% coverage from the VA for his benefits. The VA paid the school within 7 business days and the veteran took out financial aid to receive the overage to pay his bills. Well, MyCC delayed the first half of the payment for months claiming the VA had not yet paid even though the veteran showed proof of the payment from the VA. The story then shifted to the accounting department had the payment in the system and they also had the overage in the system, but it wasn’t updated in the books so it couldn’t be paid. The veteran had to file complaints with the VA and Department of Education to receive the first half of his payment. Only after filing complaints did the school finally release the check to him. Then for the second half of his payment at the halfway mark of the program, the student had attended for 70% of the class time and maintained a B grade, but the school refused to issue the second half of the overage check because he had not attended for 80% of class time which they considered to be academic probation. See the issue here? The program is not flexible whatsoever and is designed for profit only. b. Pros – None other than do not try to receive overage because they will do all they can to keep the money that is supposed to be issued to you. 4. Job Placement a. Cons - “We successfully place over 95% of our students in the IT industry after their first 3 months and certification!” Yeah…the position you are placed in is a $14 per hour helpdesk support role…so their numbers are heavily inflated. Career services will not work with you unless you have been enrolled for 3 months and have you’re A+ certification. There is only ONE career services manager for over 200 students…so don’t expect timely responses. Now I recognize that some people with no IT background actually desires this path and that works great for them…more power to you and I wish you all the best as you progress. For someone with an IT background, coming in and getting an A+ certification to be offered a $14 per hour helpdesk role is insulting. I have been an analyst in the IT industry for over 11 years and I wanted to use the program to progress into a certain field, and acquiring the most common certification (which is A+) means so little to me that it isn’t even worth the investment. What I am saying here is that career services doesn’t benefit you until you are into the Networking and Server classes. b. Pros – The Career Services guy is actually good once he gets back to you. He can help you move into the fields you desire, the con is just the amount of time it takes to get there. The school does work with a lot of clients so you will be able to find work. 5. Syllabus and Workload a. Cons – You will literally have no idea what class you are starting and when because they don’t tell you. You will just start attending class and then one day the teacher will say “hey you start XXX class next week”. Oh really? Why not just provide us a list of when the classes begin? Oh that’s right, your curriculum plan is terrible or is non-existent. The reason why this is an issue is because sometimes the clock in system will have the wrong class under your name or no class at all, so how can you correct it if you don’t know what classes begin on what day? Workload is terrible as well. You will have to go through the following: class lectures, studying within a program called CramMaster and then have homework in a system called Measure Up. Then you also have labs. Now…my honest opinion is that the school time or the CramMaster time is useless as it often redundant and conflicting information being taught to you. Why not eliminate CramMaster and have the teachers actually teach us something useful? The professors will do nothing but read off the slides…I can do that on my own. With 4 different sources of work and lecture coupled with spending a minimum of 4 to 6 nights a week on campus, you can see where the headache lies. If you fall behind you are entirely screwed…which means if you try to have a life outside of the program, you will fail because they design it that way. b. Pros – The work is self-paced. So if you can afford to spend an entire Saturday or Sunday doing everything, then you can get ahead and not have to worry. For those of us with families and strenuous jobs, we cannot afford that time. The bottom line is this…MyCC is designed to overload you with work and force you to spend the majority of your life there. They do not help you until you have fallen behind and there is no warning that you are on the bad path until it is too late. They will do what they can to keep your GI Bill money and not issue overages with ridiculous standards and they will do it behind a smile to your face. All in all, this program would be GREAT if the execution wasn’t done by clueless people. A few tweaks and this would be a great benefit. However, if you were to ask me if I would recommend this school and program, the answer is no until they fix a lot of the inner workings. There’s just entirely too much they require and this program is NOT designed for the working family…it is designed for the 18 year old kid fresh out of high school or the adult that is too naïve to see when someone is working them over. My advice is….wait until they work everything out before you enroll…there are better programs with way more flexibility.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Student Help and guidance

I have probably waited too long to do this, but on behalf of my son I feel as though I must. He went to this place at the behest of his father to get a "better" chance at a career in computers. He got into the 6-month preparation school that promised career placement assistance. They placed him in a "career" alright, but the hours conflicted with this classes. When he went back to his "counselor" at the school", he was informed that the school only helps with one job placement and his options were to either rearrange his schedule or find another job; however, if he missed more than three weeks of school, he would forfeit his schooling. THIS WAS A JOB THEY PLACED HIM IN! As it was, he was laid off three weeks later, and lost everything anyway.

This was several years ago. Sallie Mae, the financial collection agency that is "in charge" of collecting the debt incurred by my son for the "help" he received from the "school" he attended is now threatening to garnish his wages. He has had nothing but trouble and hard times in this economy and has struggled to make ends meet for him and his wife and child, as well as for me. I know that everyone has a "sob" story, but his father committed suicide over two years ago and my son was thrown into the role of man of the house and has tried to help me keep the house and bills paid up, something he did not have to do, but he chose to do. This "school" did not do their part by helping them as they should have done. I do not feel that my son owes them a penny. As it is, I offered to pay Sallie Mae and payoff of $11, 000.00 about two years ago and they would not take it.

Both the School itself and Sallie Mae are horrible businesses. I will issue a separate complaint for Sallie Mae.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Training is a joke

Why did I use the username, "Abetterlife"? Because that is the key my computercareer.com uses for the wireless access to their network. A network that has a hard time to handle all the network traffic and sometimes it crashes due to a broadcast storm. To avoid an unreliable network, now they use wired access while real institution would fix the problem and let students have more flexibility which is the reason, we like wireless access. Just keep in mind that these people will be teaching you. This is problem number 1.

Let’s move to other problems with mycomputercareer.com. I graduated from this institution a while ago. I can tell you that some students will not receive one certification because they have not the ability to pass any of them. I have seen many students to just receive CompTIA A+, Network+, and the not counting MTAs and some walk off without any certs. The MTA are fairly easy exams, when students do their measure up exams, they will pass MTAs. However, I have not met any students, while I was
there, to pass MCTS and MCITP exams, whose include 70-640, 70-642, 70-646, and 70-680. These exams are extremely hard and even instructors and flex instructors are failing them. Instructors, who are teaching the material to students and try to prepare them for the exams.

When you go to their orientation and they go through the spiel, they will tell you that you can make $60, 000 and plus yearly as a professional, maybe if you have previous experience in the IT-Field, you might. However, be prepared to receive job offers, starting as little as $8.00 an hour. Most of the companies, my computercareer.com deals with are temporary agencies such as TechSystem, Modis, Kelly Services to name a few. While sitting through orientation, you will ask questions and not sure if the program is for you. They will tell you that you are so smart and can do it, counting on your self-esteem. Do you want to be called
stupid? Well, I don't. The recruiter, uses any method to lurk you in to believe that the program carrying a sticker of $19, 500, will be beneficial for you, but at the end of the program, you can use the completion of the program by either framing it or put it away because it is useless. Well, after you gone through the sales b****, they will directed you to Financial Director, hoping that you are not defaulted on your student loans, so FAFSA can be accessed and completed. Believe me; they will accept anybody, even
drunks who they will kick off the premises afterwards. Everybody who walks through their door is just a walking dollar sign.
The campus director is a very nice person to your face but she is fake like Front desk person, Recruiter, Career Counselor, and of course, the Financial Director. They do and say everything you want to hear by simply lying to you. By the way, mycomputercareer.com increased the tuition by $5, 000 almost a year ago because they decided that a tablet and one additional course would justify it.

Let’s talk about the hands-on experience; you should gain from the institution. We worked on Hyper-V technology while the labs were written in Virtual-Box. Most of the labs didn't work and frustrated most of the students. The instructor would read off PowerPoint slides in record time and skipping many of them. He would take a lot of smoke breaks and sometimes disappears for hours or didn't even come back. Our breaks were 3 hours in a 8 hour day. The flex time is a joke. You just sit in a room and do the work you could have done at home but for the Financial Aid purpose, mycomputercareer.com is required to have students campus for so many hours. At this time, one of the campuses is on probation for not complying with the financial aid standards. Well, after each course, we had to take our final exam which was a measure up test in study mode. If the wrong
answer was given, students could correct them and get an A on their finals. If students would have taken it in certificate mode, many students would have failed the entire program. Yes, it is memorizing the answers. I didn't have to read the questions anymore; I just looked at the answer, selected the right answer one and completed my test with an A. There were only 100-160
questions in the bank; it is easy to remember the answers. Learning material are books copied as .pdf files, software is from DreamSparks that is a Microsoft website for free software that is good for two years, and videos with some instructor talking about the material of the course which is not enough to pass the certification exam. There are pre-assessment tests, post- assessment tests, and labs that just contain the content of the videos.

To wrapped it up. Before you consider Mycomputercareer.com, check out jobs as network administrator or server administrator and see the requirements. I will tell you, that you won't get close to the requirements because most of them call for Bachelor degrees and years of experience. Mycomputercareer.com might be beneficial for professionals who are seeking certifications; otherwise it is a hoax and a waste of money.

A person who wants you to avoid the mistake, many others made including me,

PowerPoint slide in record time and skipping many of them. He would take a lot of smoke breaks and sometimes disappears for hours or didn't even come back. Our breaks were 3 hours in a 8 hour day. The flex time is a joke. You just sit in a room and do the work you could have done at home but for the Financial Aid purpose, mycomputercareer.com is required to have students on
campus for so many hours.
There are pre-assessment tests, post- assessment
tests, and labs that just contain the content of the videos.

To wrapped it up. Before you consider Mycomputercareer.com, check out jobs as network administrator or server administrator and see the requirements. I will tell you, that you won't get close to the requirements because most of them are bachelor degrees and years of experience. Mycomputercareer.com might be beneficial for professionals who are seeking certifications; otherwise it is a hoax and a waste of money.

A
person who wants you to avoid the mistake, many others made including me,

I’m writing to retract the complaint I entered previously about MyComputerCareer in this forum. Due to a refund disagreement I had with the company that I thought was their fault, but later learned was the responsibility of a 3rd party, I became upset and overreacted. The school and I have settled our dispute to my satisfaction and I can vouch for the integrity of this organization and its principals. In my anger, I made several charges that were exaggerated or out of context. In particular, I want to address a few of the most serious complaints: 1. Income claims – While MyComputerCareer representatives do sometimes cite career income potential of $60, 000 a year or more they do not guarantee incomes or tell students to expect jobs in those salary ranges until they have gained some industry experience. 2. $8.00 per hour jobs – On this point, I was mistaken. MyComputerCareer typically doesn’t place students in jobs under about $12 an hour unless a student insists that they want or need the position. The average, according to their analysis, is about $17.50/hour and because of the nature of the school, most of those jobs are first-time career entry positions. Of course, more experienced students can do much better. MyComputerCareer actually helped to place me in a job at almost $20 per hour but I had to turn the position down for scheduling reasons. 3. Quality of Instruction – While I did have a problem with one of the instructors, he has since been fired and my complaint of 3 hour breaks was exaggerated. Generally, MyComputerCareer instructors are knowledgeable, caring, and work hard to help students succeed. Many of the in-class requirements I complained about are mandated by either the accrediting agency or the Department of Education and, it turns out, do promote better student outcomes. 4. Network & Server Administrator Requirements – Many employers publish job requirements for Network and Server Administrator positions that include a college degree. But not everyone does. MyComputerCareer graduates have had success at getting these jobs with the certifications replacing the requirement for a college degree. A lot of companies also hire for these positions from within. While a college degree will always be helpful, IT professionals who hold the certifications offered at MyComputerCareer and who perform well on the job are sometimes promoted to these positions without one. 5. MyComputerCareer DID raise tuition by about $5, 000 in 2013 but they had been selling the program at more than $5000 BELOW their other campuses and they made changes to the program that increased the amount of instructor-led training and hands-on labs, and added the tablet and mobile device course. In summary, I regret my overreaction and can endorse MyComputerCareer as a reliable solution and a good value for those looking to get into IT quickly and efficiently.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Scam

I signed up with TechSkills for their medical coding associate course of study. I knew I was in trouble after I'd signed up and some of what my mentor was saying didn't seem to make sense with regard to the subject and the market / what I was hearing from those outside of TechSkills and finding online, vs what the mentor was suggesting.

Each time I pressed for back-up to the info, it was suggested to me that maybe I wasn't really ready to study with them and perhaps I should talk to the director. Of course if I'd cxld I wouldn't have recvd a full refund and in the end I stayed. But while the mentor fussed that I did so much independently and seemed to not require the assistance others did, more often than not, when I did have questions, they were dismissed as to be addressed at a later time or not important to passing and getting a job in
the field, or I was asked to get with the mentor when they weren't busy with other students (and by my asking questions the mentor appeared to not know answers to, I seemed to make an enemy, and getting ANYthing done became much more difficult).

I spent a lot of time backing up, verifying and using outside sources in the industry to get the expert input and direction I'd actually chosen to pay TechSkills for rather than just studying on my own.

In the end, what suggestions the mentor did offer, a simple search on the web proved contradictory to what the experts in the respective fields recommended. Also, the first and only industry contact I received from the mentor, didn't seem to have a clue who this mentor was or sound like they'd
ever done anything with the mentor. This even though the mentor had presented the relationship with the contact as strong and long-standing with regular cooperation between them.

I'm pretty good at doing things on my own, but what really pushed me over, in so much as any faith in any weight that having completed a TechSkills program (with an A)might carry in a new career search, was getting emails and voice mails (many of which I've saved) asking me to re-send info misplaced or not recalled anymore, or to call to remind the mentor of something, or to make an appointment in order to set something up...and then when I'd follow up, it was implied that I was the one requesting the
activity or even demanding the attention over the mentor's students.

In addition to defending my actions/follow-ups as at the mentor's request, I always wanted to remind the mentor that I was also one of the mentor's "students" and am in debt thousands for that very poor decision.

Needless to say, on the occasions that calls or requests were initiated by me, the return email would simply overlook the subject matter questions, or I'd be asked to get back to the mentor when they had more time or returned from vacation time they were about to leave for etc (leading into another of
the previously described senario) etc.

I did complete the program, but am choosing to back it up with other courses and will not list TechSkills on my resume or use them in my job search for positions in this field, as the many miscommunications and confused responses of the mentor, while I was there, left me with a complete lack of faith that any verification calls that might be handled by this mentor would be handled well or knowledgably or, that said, professionally.

I would not recommend TechSkills so long as things stay as they are. When you pay or go into debt thousands and commit months of your life to something, you expect to get more than a stack of books and written worksheets and tests (the equiv of which I've found for free on the web through different sources, free lists of nec. books for study, and the web-based lectures equiv in the form of seminars/recorded lectures on their own for the cost of just the lectures etc).

Tech Skills was the biggest waste of money I have ever been through, like this person said, just a stack of books and crappy assignments that can all be found online, they told me "80% hands on training, rest for tests and work on the comp" It was more like the other way around, and now I am in DEBT trying to pay off this "student loan" for a bunch of ### teachers and it's all fraud. I would love to get my money back because they did not deliver. I do have a job in the field but thats because i found out I could get hired WITHOUT their services and could have done all of this FOR FREE on my own! They did nothing to help me, and by the time I got fed up with them and their crap, I was going to quit, but by that time of course I was still going to be responsible for paying for it. So i decided if I'm stuck paying for it anyway might as well stay, but it was the biggest waste of money and time in my life!

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Scam on tuition and classroom instrustion agreement

Beware of this school if they even still have the campus open in Independence ( was in existence as of 4-2011). I entered the MCSA program at the Independence (Cleveland, OH) campus and successfully completed my A+, Network+ and Microsoft MCP 270 (XP) certifications but was booted out after 13 months for supposed slow progress which I appealed since I was 1/2 way through my 290 course ( 2nd to last course needed). This blew me away as I was initially told a student could get up to 18 months to complete all courses by the admissions advisor- who is no longer there (a complete lie- get any extension promised at the inception of your tuition agreement in writing not verbally). The appeal was denied for no valid reason. This campus has very high turnover. All staff and instructors with the exception of the receptionist/admin. assistant left in a 9 month period from the time I enrolled AND for lie #2 there is no valid externship program through this campus- in fact two career advisors resigned or were terminated during my 12 months there- no career advisor on site for the last 4 months I was a student. Run and keep running. I was promised the world and was left with crappy instructors who did not qualify explanations of any questions I had during labs with the exception of one good, competent instructor this group of clowns did nothing to help me. If you can do labs independently with no instructor intervention then go for it but if you get tied up with technical questions related to the I.T. labs then forget it. You will not receive adequate help-especially during the 290 server course. I have heard other TechSkills campuses are o.k. (told this by a TechSkills employee-so consider the validity or lack thereof). But the Cleveland one is the epitome of a bad joke and they lost the Pearson Vue accreditation as a test center for CompTIA and Microsoft exams so I had to take my 270 vendor at another location. I am now left to complete my 290-291 courses independently but still have not been able to negotiate the balance of the student loan to TechSkills down to reflect responsibility only for the 4.5 out of 6 courses I was able to complete. TechSkills will promise the world and deliver the bare minimum- and I write that using the term loosely. Good luck!

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Took my education for granted and scammed me!

I started at techskills 6-10. They promissed me on the job training on all office equipment: Multiline phone, copier, mail machine, how to do all medical forms in the office, work at your own pace, resume, cover letter help. Well that was a joke! Your pretty much teaching yourself at their pace they set for you! There are no Certified Instructors! They are noneducated people like us with no education! The one's that get jobs are the one's being paid by techskills to make techskills look good! People wake up and use your voice and put techskills to shame! I am ashamed of this place that calls themselves a school!

Techskills has over charged me for a class i have taken. They are taking money from the government on classes students do not take. They made a student come to school after he had passed his exams due to they would get more money this way. Few people has got jobs from this school after was being told they help find jobs. Its all about the money.. not education. The government should go in an investigate this school. They are only accredited because of false information that they provide.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu INFURIATED

I started my course 03/09/2009 my graduation date was to be 05/21/2010; I actually graduated on 12/14/2009. When I first went through the interview process I asked what was their success rate for job placement after completion of the course I was told 98%. I was told that they have a great curriculum and that internship as well as externship will be available and much needed to help me gain employment in the career field I choose. I was told that you work at your own pace but your work does need to be turned in and tested out of courses by certain time frames. That was fine. When all was said and done I finished my courses and actually graduated on 12/14/2009..before doing so I asked the ladies of career services for intern and or externship to help me get actual hands on experience. I was told to give a resume and I did. I emailed it on 11/02/2009 which I still have the copy saved in my sent box. Then I had a meeting with the director of career services about my resume and possible intern/externship she asked me to send another copy of my resume because somehow it got lost or deleted..so again I sent my resume via email on 12/16/2009 (still have the copy saved in my sent box)..I received a call from her saying that she was going to tweek it so that employers would actually look at it..never received an email of this being done..made a phone call to her about my resume actually scheduled an appt. to visit with her so she can help me with my career venture..went in and saw her she could not find email of my resume..Luckily I had one with me she was to look over it and clean it up so she said and send me a copy to see what I thought. Mind you I already graduated all of this should have been done technically 1-2 months before I graduated I guess or would have hoped so.She then had to get my email address again because it wasn't saved so she could send me job offers via email...ok how many times did I submit my resume to their email address?.any who..I started getting the job offers sent to my email..I applied for them all and I'm still applying to them. On May 6 2010 I talked to one of my friends who was a fellow students who informed me of our graduation ceremony...WHAT? Our graduation ceremony was on May 14, 2010..my friend said that our invitations were sent out last week of March 2010...hmmm...I haven't moved my address is still the same..I mean I was getting all the loan paperwork from TechSkills sent to my address but NO invitation to my own graduation..hmmmm..I emailed the director of career services on May 7, 2010..I stated I graduated 5 months before my actually graduation date out of a GPA of 4.0 I received 3.8...working overnight, raising my girls and working 2 other jobs while I was in school this was devasting to me..I worked so hard for this and I didn't even get an invite to my own graduation...WOW...she apologized and email my invitation to me, she could not explain why or how I wasn't sent one..well I got to my graduation ceremony..my mother, my girls and my boyfriend was there to cheer me on..So I got past all that ;still applying to whatever they send me...then June 28, 2010 the ball gets passed from her to another director of medical placement..he doesn't know me he started after I graduated..I did talk to him on the phone briefly about what all happened and he told me that TechSkills lost their insurance for intern/externship for their students...hmmmm.so where does that leave me and those that are interested in enrolling now...since then I've been applying to everything they email me and anything Pharmacy related I see on the internet as well as in the newspaper...but I keep getting the same story from all the employers...I dont have any HANDS ON experience in a pharmacy setting...WOW...what can I say What can I do? Just throw my money away to pay off a so called education I will never be able to use...So now when my children talk to me about going to college or a university I grind my teeth...and tell them you will make the right decision follow your heart GOD will steer you in the right direction...I mean I was steered in the right direction..unfortunately I had people (TeckSkills) who showed that they don't really care as long as they make their quotas for enrollment...I must add though the day of my graduation when I walked the stage and received my certificate...The school director Scott King shook my hand and whispered in my ear he was so sorry about everything that I have endevored..I looked at him and said it wasn't his fault which it wasn't...I think the whole time I attended school their I think I might of seen him maybe 3 times in passing...but I'm a firm believer in first impressions...with that being said he was very genuine and I believed in my heart that he was truly sorry...as for the others ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS! and 11 months later I still CANNOT FIND WORK..and I have an education balance with them for $28, 700.00

I am a former Instructor of MyComputerCareer.com This company is a Certification Mill! I believe that the PROPER QUALIFIED person WITH EXPERIENCE, can go through a program like this and succeed. TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Students beware.

I am currently attending TechSkills, Indianapolis campus. Director Treg. Let me tell you about my personal experience. I live paycheck to paycheck. When our paycheck comes in we dish out so much just to live, we end up with about $65 for gas, food etc. for the next 2 weeks. the rent is duplex, low income housing, 540. The one car we have is 85 per week buy here pay here. We pay electricity, phone, and internet. Thats it. Might not seem like much to you, but for a guy with a disabled spine who is in the process of a 3 year court appeal, and is "liability" limited at work to only 10 hours per week, this is all we have. We wouldn't eat if it weren't for the fact that we work at a gas station and can get free food that gets wasted out at night.
Our solo jeep's differentials blow out mid 60mph, slamming us down to about 40mph in a 10 foot stretch, then eventually to the side of the road. Pay day is 12 days away.
I am sitting at 22% course completion, with only 11% expiration. being 11% ahead in my school, and utilizing the current Leave of Absence policy, and not having any other way to get to school, I apply for the LOA under extenuating circumstances for 2 weeks, to get the money to start the repairs, get my jeep back, and make it to school. Seems reasonable yes?
Treg calls the next day to deny my LOA saying it doesn't fall under appropriate guidelines. He tells me I have to make another 5 hours or get terminated. How I got there was no concern of his, or any of my instructors.
The very next day, the LOA policy is 'redefined" and extenuating circumstances are no longer a part of it. Now it has become medical/emergency with documented proof. posted all over the home page of my student panel, I decide to pitch a ###. I provide documentation, proving I am truly in need, and TechSkills just adds more insult to injury, by offering a paid bus pass raffle to students who attend on a certain day (remember I can't get there to be a part of this raffle.) Furthermore, they have gone into my past activity panel, and changed my LOA request parameters to make damn sure it seems like I did not meet the requirements, and have no case to prove I did.
All in all, TechSkills is just another company. Sure you might learn a few things here and there and even get certificates to work those fine jobs like tier 1 tech support (in India) but in the end, this company will rape you. Take it from someone who is bleeding $12, 000 from the ###, "Let the buyer beware."

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Lack of Professionalism

Certainly did NOT receive the professional interaction appropriate for a school which professes to prepare the student for the professional world, particularly from my instructor.

In this economy, I am grateful that I have a job right now that I get as many hours as I can to work in order to keep a roof over my head. I therefore cannot complete assignments at the pace that a full-time student can. I was getting up at 3:00 in the morning to study for 4 hours a day before work.

Apparently, TechSkills is set up for an unemployed full-time student. It was not made clear to me what this pace would entail: harassment to complete my assignments per their lock-step pace and basically being called lazy by my instructor: in these words ""If you will just make a little effort" and UNclear, ambiguous communication as to what is expected of me.

Between my working 7 days a week on little sleep between studying and working and this insulting, petty comment was the straw that broke the camel's back. I quit after a couple of months into the course and am, of course, more in debt--(understandably still have to buy the software and pay for some of their time.)
My mistakes lay in 1: not doing my research and learning what questions to ask & 2: not going in there like a CSI investigator and literally interrogating them as to every single detail of their operation and what is expected of the student. If a perspective student doesn't do that, then they may find themselves royally screwed. Obviously, these folks are not going to tell you anymore than is absolutely necessary to get you in their door and get you paying the tuition.

Crap should have proffed read before posting and I would have caught some of the stupid mistakes I made in the above post. Skipped words ect. While I grammar isn't my strong suite the bellow posting at least contains all the words it should have had. :) I wish you guys would add the ability to edit a post after being posted.

Wow you are a dumb @$$ if you signed up for any type of training program when your working 7 days a week and unwilling to make time for your studies. Why would you sign up for training? When they say it's training on your own schedule it means you don't have to come to class at a certain time but you do need to study. It does not mean procrastinate as long as you want. If they didn't have time lines you wouldn't do anything at all, and then would complain no one pushed you. Everything is everyone else’s fault. Their time lines are reasonable but you do have to make an effort. As far as what is expected of you, they are very clear up front. Follow your syllabus (step by step instructions) Watch this video, read this chapter, do this lab, when done study for the unit exam, then take the graded exam. Wow when you’re done with that it opens up the next unit. Now they tell you to try and get through a unit in one week but if it takes slightly longer no problem. Just don’t go beyond 2 weeks. If it takes you more than two weeks to do one unit it means you are just not doing anything. The programs they offer are easily done in the timelines they offer. If you’re not getting through it then you’re not trying. Things aren’t going to just happen for you in life. You will have to make some efforts and yes, you might have to cut down the time you spend at a bar or playing video games to complete the work. If you think that training is hard you might as well give up on training all together. Try going to college where they expect you to complete task, attend class on a regular basis. If not that try some of the other training places where you have a week boot camp. If you take those you better already know the information. The boot camps are just to help you pass vendor exams. From reading your complaint it is clear that Techskills should have questioned you more severely to find out if you were actually serious and committed to training. There are other things to complain about this company and will be doing so shortly but your complaint is just you not being willing to put forth the time to do the training.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Money scam

7 years ago I signed up for a (membership) to Techskills(Kansas City) and was unable to follow through because of legal problems. I took the course for approximately 1 hour and was unable to finish. I had people get a hold of them to let them know that I was unable to finish and all they did was take the money and run. Now the lender (Key Bank, whom they don't deal with anymore) is holding me accountable for it 7 years later and have my credit report messed up so I can't buy a house. Now I am up in arms trying to figure out what to do to get this straightened out.

TechSkills / MyComputerCareer.edu Fraudelant practices

I signed up for a so-called membership over 7 years ago and was unable to follow through with it because of a legal issue. I too approximately 1 hour of classes from them before i was unable to continue. I had a friend try to get a hold of them to let them know what had happened, to get my money back and they refused and basically took the 8, 000$ and ran. I've tried to talk to them and they won't help me, so I got a hold of the lender with whom they don't deal with anymore (Key Bank) and all they want to do is hold me accountable for the money that I never saw for an education that i never received. Now, it has messed my dredit up and is holding me up in trying to buy a house. This has me royally pissed off. Does anyone know of anything that I can do to get this fixed?
