TD Bank coporate thief & awful staff

I URGE everyone to pull all accounts from TD Bank if you like holding onto your money. I closed mine today, thanks to nearly $600 in ridiculous fees. Not only that, but all of a sudden, they've decided to get rid of their free checking accounts, which I had, and replace them all with accounts requiring a minimum balance, without any authorization from the account-holder. Luckily for TD (but not for anyone else), all these formerly "free" accounts were subsequently slapped with maintenance fees. I can't even imagine how much they made off us maligned customers from this sneaky account change.

TD Bank put in 2 collection agencies for $5 atm fee (non tdbanknorth)

Before, dealing with the present problem, one credit agency rerfused to collect anything over a $5 non TD Banknorth ATM, and hiring NCO...guess that makes it look official. What did I do? I simply told them, I was switching banks, as it was clear, they were sucking money out of us for anything. However, prior to this, in about 2007, I tried to close a checking account, as it was Christmas, and they were escalating $35 every 3 days...eating up my whole disability check, and I was a widow with a child, trying to go back to school...they refused to close the account. My money from social security was COMPLETELY taken. Never mind Xmas...I had no rent money. Also, after a huge surgery, this got me evicted. They had the nerve to discharge the account, AND charge me $280 more! I also want my money back, and feel it should be returned. It was legal loansharking. This is also to the ladyalso, who said their fees were awful. I left AFTER I read, that (oh, a NEW rule...people working wouldn't have time to read, $35, if one takes more than $100 inside of the three days of direct deposit. Don't most of us pay our bills around the first of the month? oH, TOO BAD, more money in their pockets, after your checkgbook is off by $35, and they have your charges, they will be sorry, but this is their policy!

Banks are NOT ALLOWED to take Social Security out of your account to pay charges they say you owe. In fact, even if they go to court and get a judgment saying you owe XYZ Co. $100 (or whatever) ONLY money you owe to an agency of the federal government can be taken out of your check. If the only money you had deposited when they cleaned you out (with the possible exception of amounts you deposited in a good-faith effort to bring your balance out of negative) was from your Social Security check, they violated the law. You can probably get it back with a simple small claims case (be sure to insist they reimburse you the court filing fee when you win) but you could also get a lawyer who would probably be happy to pursue damages, pain & suffering, etc. so that you win enough to cover your attorney's expenses. You can also try contacting your representatives in Congress and/or your state legislature to let them know how this bank treated you, as well as your state's Attorney General to see if they'll investigate -- banks are under increased government scrutiny these days -- and maybe also local media, with your poignant story of being a widowed mother doing her best and being abused by the evil bank. What Banknorth did to you is not just shameful, it's literally CRIMINAL.

TD Bank maintanence fee / overdraft

My wife and I have been with TD Banknorth for over 4 years now. We signed up for a free checking account when I started working there as a teller.

4 years later, and now no longer working for them. I still kept my checking through them because I like the free checking account, and they were in a convenient area for me. After dipping down to my last $5.17 cents, and still a few days from pay day I look at my statement and TD Banknorth had a fee on there for 15 dollars, throwing my account into the negatives. Before I could call them the next day, another fee was on there, a 35 dollar overdraft. I was furious.

I called them right away and talked to a real sweet lady who explained to me that this was a "new" thing they were doing to anyone who had their account go under $100. She then said my account was "not supposed" to go into the negatives. They were only supposed to bring my balance to zero. Isn't that great, take my last 5 dollars I have to my name for what? You are already making money off of what I have in there during the month. And how much maintenance do you have to do with money? Does it ever get out of hand? Does it mess up your living room?

When I worked for them all those years ago, they told me not to charge any kind of fees to anyone who had more than 20, 000 dollars in their account. Instead, I had to charge people living from paycheck to paycheck like myself, these stupid fees. Maybe we could have EVERYONE pay the fees, and cut them in half so that people like me, who need the extra money, can live a little more comfortably.

Why TD Banknorth takes from the poor and gives to the rich is beyond me. I'm looking into Credit Unions, and I will never EVER use TD Banknorth for anything...again.

This just happened to me. I chose the option not to have overdrafts when I opened my account.. Both my husband and I have a paypal account in which charged my card instead of his. This created over $200. in over draft fees. The transaction should of never went thru. It should of been denied. It is a week and half a way from Christmas and I can not buy the few gifts I wanted to because of this. I make little money so I keep a close eye on my account balance. If I would of known this in the beginning I would of never opened an account with TD Bank! I see many others have had the same thing happen to them and they signed a petition. Does any one know where this petition is? Is there anything I can do to fix this? This is totally horrible. Like I said, I make very little money and I work very very hard for that little money. If someone knows there is something I can do, please email me with the info. (Thanks) nickel421970@gmail.com and my name is Nichole.

T=TOTAL D= Discrased.Employees all they do is free load coffee from male customers and giggle all day.I even saw one selling candy for her child's school on working hours while the line was almost outside.another TD bank employee told learn how to handle your money if you don't like our overdrafts imgine that!

TD Bank she put a carbage can on the counter to prove me wrong!

The lines to the teller are always long and do not move. Every time the line forms all the tellers are leaving their stations, there is only a cop, and 5 other people who are standing by the door and giving out lollipops. Pathetic. Over the 6 years I have had an account there (why that long I will never know) I didn’t have one pleasant and fast visit! Not one!

When I recently went to order a bank check the teller was rude and made me rewrite the slip 3 times and at the end she misspelled the payee’s name. When I have told her that she put the garbage can on top of the table to try to prove me wrong that I have spelled an attorney incorrectly. Nevertheless, she was wrong, did not apologize or thanked me when I left. I am not dialing the number to complain to the branch manager.

TD Bank bank fees and minimum deposits

TDBank North switched free checking accounts to "convenience" checking accounts in April or May. Did you get the letter? It said, among other things, that there is now a requirement to keep $100 minimum balance or face a $15 fee. Well, today, the bank imposed the fee. And drew my account down below $100 by a little. That will create a second fee in July.

I voted with my feet and closed the account. But here's the question. If TD Bank North has say 100, 000 customers in MA or whatever and requires each of them to take $100 off the table are they not taking missions out of the economy at the worst possible moment? That just doesn't seem right.

Somehow, I am being charged $25/mo. when my business checking falls below $1, 000 and $25/mo. what a personal checking falls below $100. Whining won't change their practices. We have to find a bank that behaves better. So who is that bank? I have gotten a copy of the Business Fee Schedule and Personal Fee Schedule from TD. Now I must do a comparison against other banks to find a better answer.

What banks should I investigate?

Hello All,

I am in the process of closing my account with TD BankNorth. It's a hassle but it would be foolish for me to keep paying them excessive fees. Here is the comment that I sent to their organization:

My suggestion is that you stop charging $15 per month for a "Simply Free Checking Account" (that was the account's previous name) when a customer's account drops below $100. It is a shame that your organization is taking advantage of struggling people during a recession with your excessive fees. I hope that your image is affected by all of the negative reviews that I am reading about your organization.

My fiance and I have 3 accounts with TD Banknorth and a car loan. We went and opened an account at a new bank and will be closing our accounts this saturday. Because we have 3 accounts that means we lose access to $300 since we need to keep a minimum of $100 in each. I called the Bank and the woman told me there are some changes going on since Commerce Bank bought them out and that I could change my account to an account that charges me a standard fee every month and allows a certain amount of checks I can write and blah blah... I'd had my original account since before it was TD Banknorth! I have direct deposit, which for lots of banks means no fee checking account! What? I agree with Mydogralph, what an AWESOME time to be keeping people from being able to use their own money?

I'm closing all 3. I know I'm only a drop in the bucket to TD Banknorth and they really couldn't care less...too bad.

TD Bank maitenance fees

Well, where do I start?

A little background info. MY husband and I have been TD Banknorth customers for about 4 years now. I have a personal (was called simply free) checking and savings, as does he. We then have a joint checking and savings account. Makes life easier and we both have our own "play" money and money to pay our independant credit card bills.

In April of 2009 I recieved a letter from TD Banknorth stating changes they were making, mainly about new fees...yippe! After reading through the fairly long letter, I was not worried. The only fees that would effect me were a monthly maitenence fee on my checking account, and that was only is my average daily balance was below $100. No biggy. I rarely fall below that amount, and if I do it's only for a few days at the end of the month.

So just today I check my balance online and there is a $15 dollar fee. My balance before the fee was $78. I spent a little extra money given the holiday weekend traveling. So I call customer service to see what the fee was for. Surely enough it was an account maitenence fee for falling below $100 daily balance. He customer service rep told me that letters were sent out to all TD Banknorth customers well in advance. I told him that I recieved that letter and read it thoroughly and noticed that it was an average daily balance. He then told me that no, it was if at any point in the month I fall below $100 that I would be charged the fee. That did not seem right to me, but whatever. Then I went into the fact that we have several different accounts with them and our savings has several thousands dollars in it, and didn't that count for anything. He then told me that I could transfer the money over from the savings to my checking to avoid the fee next month. I asked him what the point of a savings account was for if I had to keep transferring money to avoid a fee, when I still had money in my checking? He didn't have a response. I then asked him why the banks are kicking the middle man while he is down...it is already hard enough in this economy to make ends meet and now they want to charge those of use who can't hold a balance every day of the month above $100? His response was that this is what the banking industry is doing now and there is not one bank out there that has a free checking account. I think told him that the banking industry needs to reevalute their industry and that I will be switching to a Credit Union where there are NO FEES. He wished me good luck, and that was that.

I still can't understand the logic behind this whole thing. They are making money of my husband and I with our savings account just sitting there (barely making any interest) and they they go and charge me a fee...Think of all the money they are making right now off all these poor people who can barely pay their bills every month. Stupid...just stupid.

So I highly suggest to any TD banknorth members to switch to a Credit Union ASAP before they get too much mroe of your money. Ridiculous, just ridiculous!

I've had the most horrible experience with this bank. I kid you not.

I received a letter last week stating that I was in the hole for over one hundred and fifty dollars. I checked my account and discovered that as of Thursday, that amount increased to two hundred and eighty dollars.

I went to my local branch and had the displeasure of being taken cared of by an extremely arrogant young person who basically told me in so many words that I did not know how to balance my check book and that he would credit my account for the two hundred and eighty dollars but "going forward, " I'd have to be a bit more careful! I repeatedly told him that I carefully monitor every transaction and do not charge or debit anything that is not in my account.

He would not listen. I was angry but happy to get my money and just left.

The next morning, I am expecting to see my money and nothing. I checked several times and nothing. I finally go back to the bank and speak to another young man who was also smug and arrogant. He accused me of " using services, " that had no right to! He practically accused me of charging/debiting money that I didn't have in the bank.

I got two statements from him. And I found a few interesting things: the first that they charged me twice for THREE transactions and that instead of two hundred and eighty dollars; they were supposed to credit me for three hundred and fifty. I am so furious. I live from pay check to pay check and this is killing me.

Further more, I called earlier to the customer service line because the bank was closed and was disconnected three times. I kid you not. I am on the phone right now (on hold) to speak to someone who is really not going to be of any help.

I am angry because there seems to be some type of problem with upgrades that they made to their system and they refused own up to it and instead chose to hide their issues therefore putting the customer in very precarious positions.

I am very angry and am seriously considering closing my account.

I am having a lot of problems with this bank. I do not know who made this site, nor do I know who reads it and if there is anyone out there who is seeking feedback. Assuming there is, I would like to share the following:

As an experiment I called TD Bank five times and spoke with five different customer service represen...tatives. When asked why I was calling, I said I wanted to find out how to close my TD Bank account and leave TD Bank for good. Not one person on each call questioned why I was leaving or even said they were sorry to hear this or even ask if there was anything I could do. I was shocked. Some of them were even rude.

My issues span from complications with their system to poor customer
service to no longer being able to directly deposit a business check
(they are now not ready until the next business day) to not even being
able to transfer money online from my TD Bank account to a family
member's account who is also using TD Bank. They ...don't use that
technology or system but "purport" and claim to be "America's Most
Convenient Bank."

My advice? Don't tell the customer service people on the phone about
your woeful experiences. They may not care because they have been
bombarded by other customers having the same problems as you. They are
also probably getting treated poorly at their jobs. Go higher up the
food chain and hopefully, this bank will change some of its policies
and turn around. I am not optimistic, however.

TD Bank bad customer service

I was trying to set up my online account after setting up an account with the branch today. I was locked out because the geniuses at the bank reversed AND combined my middle and last name, hence creating this very, long, obviously wrong first name with my first name as my last name. When I called to tell them I was locked out, and gave them my name, the woman on the phone began to quiz me like I didn't know my name. Surely, one would figure after answering all the big questions right, (like address, social security, and last deposit) I would know what my name is. But no, they continued to harass me, accusing me of impersonating someone. What kind of customer training do these people receive, if any? After a frustrating hour of trying to convince them of who I was, I gave up and decided to close out my account tomorrow.

America's Most Convenient Bank?

I think not.

More like, America's Most Obnoxious Bank.

Good riddance!

I never write reviews, but honestly this one is a doozie.
I like my bills to be balanced like any good person. I have a card with Ashley Home store that has a payment due on the 9th, that's bad, because I asked for the 15th explicitly. This leaves my 1st fortnightly check spending money $300 short.
I went into TDs account access number to re do my credit card payment with Ashley Home store. This was not explicitly said not to do.
They told me they'll switch me to credit
So I did
They gave me the number for the Ashley Store card.
It said to go online to WWW.onlineaccessplus.com
Entered in all my info correctly, even checked my husband's dog tags and other info with my mother in law.
They said they didn't get it.
They said call customer service. I used an old hack where you press zero to talk to an agent. All systems are down and they won't be up till Tuesday. Like what the actual [censor]. Why would a major bank subsidiarity close on a weekend?

Ongoing and endemic corporate culture of client exploitation. Ignore the client, steal hours of your time, give you incorrect information, if at all and then insist that you be thankful for the privilege of working with such an egregious self serving institution. WORST BANK IN NY! Melissa Hayes and her 3 supervisors deserve to be ousted.

I also was a satisfied customer of Commerce Bank. Got nervous when it became TD. Had every reason to feel that way. I have a "laundry list" to show it. The worst part...you can't complain when mistakes are made (and they are made all the time) the Manager and Assistant manager get defensive and nasty, if you ask WHY, WHY did this happen. I can't wait to close my account. What a bad experience! No loss to them, of course. But, they shouldn't be out there causing frustration, stress, pain and suffering. Shame on them.

I just open an account with TD BANK 2 weeks ago, I was able to open the account with $250, this weeks I took my coins into the the Bird Road branch and I used TD BANK, Pennie Arcade service, you drop your coins they give you a recipt and you can cash it or deposit the monies. On Tuesday I deposited $1, 027.32 in Quaters, Dimes, Nickels and Pennies...no problems at all
I return the next day with about $700 in dollar coins I have been saving aside for a rainey day, I started to use the change machine again I was approach by Erwin Bastian and ask me if I was a business account holder, I sai NO, I have a personal account, then he ask me if I was a coin collector, I reply NO, it was coins that I have been setting aside for a rainey day, Mr. Bastian told me that I could not continue to enter coins into the machine because that machine was for people with "small piggie banks" and that they didn't want the dollar coins, I explain to him that I was going to deposit the money into his bank...he refused my coins and told me with an attitude to cash in what I had put in the machine already and NOT put anymore coins.
He totally refuse my money, How can a bank refuse a deposit and have someone with an attitude serving people with a "Assistant Store Manager" title to his name.
I got so upset I threatting him on closing my account and he didn't care, he ask me for my drivers license and asked me if I wanted large bills or small bills of the money I had in my account, He didn't care about loosing a customer without knowing if I'm a wealthy person or a poor bastad!
What a shame!

TD BANK is the worst bank I ever had to deal with!
DON'T EVER GET A MORTGAGE WITH THEM!
- Unknowledgeable staff - don't know what they are talking about and all the employees assisting me had to get their manager to sit with them
- I got stood up by them after driving 2 hours through a winter storm to get to my appointment ON TIME!
- They do not reply to your emails nor calls in a timely fashion - usually 2 to 3 days
- I feel bulied by them just because I am locked into a contract! But when it's over, never again!

That machine is designed for personal use and for what you are saying you are a coin collector. Why would you bring in the money in different days? And nobody just saves dollar coins, the service they offer is great, just because you tried to take advantage of their system and wasn't allowed to do so doesn't mean they have bad service.

And a typo on my part, its 'speech' not 'speach' like i wrote it. Anyways, I'll add to my point, all banks are bad. The same reason everyone has horror stories lending or borrowing money from friends or family, should make it no different when you take from a bank.

The goal is to have enough money where the bank is paying you and you pay them nothing. Every bank, has some option where that is possible, in canada, they have minimum balances where they waive fees. You can use your credit card and make payments in the states free of charge and if you pay before the 21 day cycle is over its no interest. But people choose, that's right choose to pay fees.

Those are some tips.

Do some research at your local bank and you can save your money.

If its 'free speech' then wouldn't that constitute me having a right to express my opinion as well? The very thing you accuse me of is the same you are doing. In fact if you read my post, I gave many outs saying that if you acted accordingly then the bank is wrong, however, if you don't have patience and are rude or arrogant, its a human on the other side that can make mistakes. Just like you and me.

Its called Free speach and its a constitutional right to express it, and when I did it, after someone else you had an issue with it...interesting how free speech only works one way in your world.

Right its the bank's fault...LOL...

TD Bank - stole my money

So I called them up and explained that there must have been an unauthorized withdrawl/transaction on my account, and that someone may have stolen my information/card number. Here is where the fun...

TD Bank awful bank

I found out on March 25th that TD Bank changed my account number. I didn't receive notification, I just happen to find out when I dialed the 800 number to check my balance, and couldn't. I had spoken to a bank associate, and they claimed that since Commerce and TD Bank merged they found that their were duplicate account numbers from both banks so they just changed the account numbers. They said they took care of my direct deposits so the transaction would be smooth, and they sent me some free complimentary checks. Which might have been nice if I didn't already buy more checks because I had no idea they were going to do this. Then I had my paycheck direct deposited, or it was supposed to be April 3rd. I never got my paycheck. When I found out it wasn't in the bank, which was saturday. My fault, I work saturdays and probably shouldn't have a life. I called first thing Sunday. The associate I spoke to tells me she can't help me till Mondday because the direct deposit department doesn't work on Sundays. I asked for a supervisor, they don't work either on Sundays. Then she decides to verify my account by asking me about my last deposit. Naturally being a extremely upset person who doesn't have their paycheck I freak out. I tell her it would have been for x amount on April 3rd but someone didn't do their job by putting it in my account. Truth of the matter is I have banked with commerce since I was 18. I never had a huge problem with them, and if I had a problem they took care of it immediately. I don't get this crap of, they don't work on Sundays. They didn't just change my account number without notifying me. This is crap! I stayed after the merger with TD Bank because I loved Commerce. They were actually very convenient and actually cared when there was a screw up like this. It's a inconvenience when I can't pay my bills or even buy groceries for me and my son because they are so irresponsible that they can't put my direct deposit into my account. Yes, it was sent in. I have the stub. I guess it doesn't matter to anyone when it's your only income, to me I need it.

Heres my story.

I started with commerce bank way back when. The service was exceptional!
I was very pleased with the level of service with commerce. Well all that changed about a year after they changed to TD.

Customer service blows now! The branch now hands everything off to the call center where you are put on hold for very long times and have to re-submit your identifying information to the next operator.

Lately while in Argentina my card stopped working despite having a permanent note on my account that I am a pilot and travel extensively and not to shut it down for suspected fraud.

They shut it down anyway. Told me I needed to come to a branch and get a new one. Being in Argentina for 30 days made that impossible. I have a second personal account so I figured I could transfer funds from my business account and use that atm card. NOT!

The online system would not allow it. Transfers worked many times before now it won’t allow it. So I have to take cash advances on credit cards to feed myself.

Additionally about two months ago someone cloned my atm card in Colombia and charger 6000 dollars in goods. I called the fraud department and they credited me 4000 immediately but told me I would need to wait up to ten days for the remaining 2000 to be credited to my account. It’s been almost 60 days now and im still waiting despite many phone calls!

Now they tell me the person who is handling my investigation is on vacation till October 16 and I will need to wait till she gets back before the investigation can proceed. WHAT! I could not believe what I was hearing. You mean to tell me there is no one else who can handle this matter. Incredible. They also told me they never told me it would be 10 days for them to credit the final 2k.
BOLD FACE LIARS!

It’s a shame the idiots in TD management didn’t realize why commerce bank received so many new customers in the short time they were in existence.
THEY LEFT OTHER BANKS BECAUSE OF ### CUSTOMER SERCVICE! AND NOW YOU’RE DOING THE VERY SAME THING!

TD is not nearly as customer oriented as commerce was. Im changing banks again as soon as I get home.

Its funny how only people living paycheck to paycheck have this issue, I'm with 3 banks, and will only go to a fourth when my FDIC limit is reached in all my accounts within each institution. I have noticed issues with each bank, but it never concerns me because I actually know what is in all my accounts at all times, and if one bank is down, I just pull out the access card for the other one. Most examples of people who I see are failing are the ones who are living beyond their means in one manner or another. And when something happens, put blame on the bank. Look no further then yourself, the mistakes the banks make they fix, and sorry normal people do not lose their cool and start shouting and yelling, uneducated idiots do that. Yelling never helps, it is a person on the other side, making a living just like you or me. If they are unable to understand or unable to help, hang up call and speak to another person. Don't try to put yourself in with us normal people, its insulting...

They should not be allowed to get away with the [censored] they pull on their customers. They make millions of BS fees every year. Most the time, it is their incompetent workforce that is responsible for the errors. Then after waiting 30 minutes to speak to a representative on the phone, you get told you are a liar, then told to go to the branch to speak to someone. Then you go to the branch, and the person who insisted when you asked if they were still on the same banking day swears they never told you that. Then you're FUC|

TD Bank giftcard fraud

My husband completed a survey at a local supermarket to receive a free $10.00 giftcard from TD Banknorth. The card had an expiration date of 12/09. The card was activated today with our understanding that we would have until December to use the balence. We received no indication that this card was subject to fees or a time restriction other than that printed on the card itself. TD Banknorth said we had a zero balence due to monthly maintenance fees. The customer service reps have been no help with resolving this matter. I just think that this is a perfect example of poor customer service and will we certainly never bank with them.

I have an old gift card for $250 that was partially used. I recently went to check the balance (was $100+) and the person on the phone I finally reached via the number on the card said it is no longer on their books!

She also said the monthly fees must have exceeded the balance, so the card is worthless!

I started banking in my town with Bank of Boston, then Family Bank, and then I believe Banknorth bought them. I have paid thousands of dollars in overdraft fees over the years.

Do people realize they are from Canada? They are probably just laughing at screwing all us Americans.

People have told me "Ah, all the banks are the same" so I haven't done anything-but I absolutely must change banks.

I'm beginning to think TD Banknorth gets away with more since they are based out of Canada. It seems a lot of laws do not apply to them. They are raping Americans and getting richer-and the US government does nothing about it.

Even the turnover in my local branch has been a problem. Everyone good leaves. I guess they force people to work Sundays and cut their hours so they no longer qualify for full time benfits. It seems they do offer good part time opportunities for younger people who might still be college, but they have screwed some of the long time employees.

Simply said, they suck. I don't dream of winning the lottery since I never play, but I do dream that some day the government will put their foot down on Banknorth, and a real class action suit will get going. My dreams ends with that I end up getting thousands back they have screwed from me. That would be heaven.

When the hell is this law about overdraft fees going to be passed?

TD Banknorth needs to be called before congress and answer to their practices.

TD Bank - racist treatment

In response to the wake of a rise in bank robberies in New York it seems as if the bank employees in the TD Bank located at 43rd street and 3rd avenue in New York, NY have begun treating black male customers with suspicion, contempt and outright rudeness. Here's an excerpt from my blog: An unfortunate aspect of the recession has been a sharp rise in bank...

TD Bank - bank account

Okay well I have TD Banknorth, and here is what TD Banknorth does. If you have six items in pending and one causes you to go into negative, they assess fees for all six items that were in pending. So you over draft by $5 in one transaction, but get an instantaneous $210 in fees. Now if that's not bad enough, they'll post the fees to your account first, and...

TD Bank bad service

I used the free coin counting machine at the Rockville Maryland TD Bank "Store" on 12/18/2008 (~12:30pm) - I do not know how much I had in the full container, but it gave me $437. Then I can home and started to full the same container and after putting on $500.00 is was much less than half full, when I fulled it fully it had ~$2, 000. All of it was in quarters, the first time was just coins I added from my changes - the $2, 000.00 was was from rolls so I know how much I have.

When I called the "Store" they just said that they would tell the people that work on the system that it may be under counting. Did not take my name or number, like no problem, so they are going to keep the money (~75%).

So the first time you had all types of coins including pennies, nickels, and dimes. And you got 437. The next time you filled it up you put in all quarters and got 2000. And somhow there is a problem with the machine at the TD?

And you didn't know how much was in there, so you just choose to believe that it was the machine.

TD Bank False Checks/Scam

Received a check in the mail with letter pretty much offering to pay for government taxes on a lottery I won. I am grateful I did someonline investigation and found other complaints with exact check amounts and other information the same. The check amount is for 4920.00. Taxes are 3980.00. What a deal huh? On the online complaint board many are saying they are cashing these checks and then later the bank is contacting wanting them to make good on this check because it is a bad check. These items are being turned over to our local police department and states attorney. I am also contacting the radio station to warn others.

TD Bank FAKE CHECK-PART OF A SCAM

During this week, I received a letter with a check for $3, 950 in the mail from a company called TD Financial (addresses: TD Financial, PO Box 284, Grand Jct, CO, 81515 and Sooper Cu, 2454 Hwy 6 &10, Grand Junction, CO 81505). The check was issued to a member of my family. The letter stated that she won a sweepstake lottery for $450, 000. TD Financial referred to a ticket with serial number [protected].

I felt that the people behind this are scammer to capitalize on people’s woes in this economy down turn, so I decide to find out who these people are. I called the number [protected] Brian Smith) and spoke with a woman who called herself Mia. At first she did not know who or what I was taking about, but later she figured it out and told me to deposit the check, get the cash and call he before the deadline of 10/16 to claim the money then call her for she want me to wire the money for taxes on the 450K.

Well, I learned that we were not the only one who got this nice letter; my friend in NY has one also. I realized that this was a con job, so I cautioned her not to draw this check on her account for these people would rip her off and if she gives them money, she will never hear from them again. After I search on the Internet, I saw lots of complaints on the Internet about this company. DO NOT BE A VICTIM of this fraudulent bank scheme.

If you have gotten a similar letter, PLEASE DO NOT CASH THIS FAT CHECK

. Please circulate this message, he can shut this phony company for once and for all!

I received a letter stating my son has won the sweepstakes for 450, 000 thousand dollars just like many others. I called the number, spoke with Mia Avery as well and she encouraged me to cash the check because my deadline was October 15. I told her this was to good to be true and she stated she understood because it's life changing. I said to her, I will let my attorney check into this and her entire tone changed. Please do not get caught up into a scam of this magnitude. Many are playing on the emotion and the crisis that our country in today. Be careful, there is alot happening out there. If it feels like a scam, looks like a scam, and speaks like a scam, guess what? It is.

TD Bank incompetent customer service!

As if i could not hate this bank any more then i already do...
After spending the day buying plane tickets and other items for an upcoming trip and using my TD Banknorth card for all of it, i figured i may as well order a new card finally since the one i have now is pretty beat up. I called the 800 number for them and went through to usual 10 minutes of repetitive phone menus that try and make you do things through a computer. I finally got a human and asked about ordering a new card. "No problem". She said. A new one will be coming to you in 10-15 days with the same account # but a new expiration date and a new 3 digit security code on the back. At that point i was happy and had that been the end of the story, there would be no issue. After all, in the past, when you order a new card, it's nothing more then a pieice of plastic till you activate it. Untill you do activate it, your old card works the same. Well NOT SO with TD Banknorth!. She proceeds to tell me that while my current card will function fine at any place i use it with a card reader, it will NOT work with ANY online or phone transaction that require an expiration date and security code. I asked her why and she said as soon as she put in the request for a new card, it instantly changes the info in the system. So now EVERYTHING i bought online today and over the phone will be DECLINE! I told her "Forget it, i dont want a new card now" and she said, the change cannot be reversed. What the hell? Why would you make PERMANENT changes to someones account that will cause any purchases they have made to decline WITHOUT WARNING THEM FIRST!. Had she said "Before i request a new card, be aware that any purchases you made online will be rejected" i would have told her forget it. But telling me AFTER the fact? I was irate. She then says, "Well the new card will be there in 10-15 days" like that makes it better. After screaming at this nitwit and then a supervisor, they agreed to fedex me a new card to be here in two days at their expense. It still does not help me NOW. Now i will look shady and have to re-do all these purcahses thanks to TD Banknorth yet again being run by total idiots. I hate this bank, but is there any better bank in Mass?

This bank is so horrible and they charge you fees and scam you and there customer service will do nothing or their hands are tied to rip you off. If you bounce a check you get a fee of $35 than every 6th day another fee for $35. It cost me about $280 to bounce two things for 12 days. When I have had a good account with them since I was 10. It has changed and someone is making a lot of money who the economy is at it's worst they won't budge or bend anything

Ok, most of the complaint sounds logical. However, any charges made BEFORE you called Banknorth were already approved, and therefore will still go through. Once you order a new card, with any bank, the security code and expiration date are changed and updated. After that, with debit cards, you can only use the old card for PIN based transactions, not for credit type transactions. This is true with ALL banks.

It sounds to me like you simply heard what you wanted to hear, not what the CS person was trying to tell you.

TD Bank lied to by several different departments

I've been a member of TD Banknorth for 5 years.

Approx 3 months ago I was laid off. I have several "Direct Payments" that are taken from my checking account from a few different companies. Having no income meant that eventually I was going to go into the negative- this was inevitable.

I called the Bank North 800 number to see if there was a way to "lock" the checking account so it wouldn't grow to an amount that was unmanagable- At this point in time the account was negative 400 dollars. The woman informed me she could not do anything on her end however if I called my branch manager they may be able to do something. I called my branch manager and he stated it was "impossible" to lock an account though he'd be willing to work with me in regards to the overdraft fees accrued when I was able to find employment. Having no options I said "Okay, I'll be in touch" and left it at that.

A few weeks later I started getting calls from services such as Verzion and Vonage telling me they were unable to take payments from my checking account. I immediatly logged into my online checking to see that it was negative 800 dollars. I called Banknorth and the woman I spoke with told me that my account was now "locked" due to my financial situation and credit status. I thought this was odd since I had been told by a branch manager this was "impossible". Again, having no options I thanked the bank rep and got off of the phone.

Today I got a job offer! Finally! After recieving my job offer I logged into my TD Banknorth online account to see the status of my checking account and it was GONE. I called TD Banknorth to see what was happening with my checking account and they told me it had gone to collections. I was in utter shock that it had gone to collections simply because I was never informed the account could or would go to collections. I asked to speak with a supervisor named Melissa who was extremely rude and was unwilling to hear what I had to say. In short, the supervisor named Melissa essentially told me that I was wrong and nothing I said was true. I was then given a number to the bank's collection department.

Unfortunately the collection department I needed to speak with was closed and I will need to call back tomorrow. I was explaining my situation to a woman in a seperate collections department and she was very sympathetic and she was 100% more polite and understanding than the supervisor Melissa. I explained to the woman in collections that I was befuddled by the fact that I hadn't atleast recieved a phone call in regards to my account going to collections at which point she told me they did make several attempts to reach me. I asked what telephone number they were calling and they gave me a telephone number that hasn't been connected to my house in over 4 years. This is surprising because I updated my contact number when my origional number was terminated, and I also updated my telephone number when I switched to Vonage. Apparently folks in the department I called were not doing their jobs.

Obviously I have been lied to left and right from all levels of Banknorth- from customer service reps, to supervisors, to branch managers. I hate to use the word "lied" because there is no direct benefit to any individual I spoke with for them to give me misleading or untrue information.

Simply put I believe this bank has grown to large and is starting to unravel from the inside out. I recall when I first joined this bank and it was a great place to save your money, unfortunately now there is a major lack of internal communication.

I do plan on paying off the checking account and then closing it. I also plan to close my savings account.

I will be opening new accounts with a much smaller, customer service oriented bank in my area. I suggest currect TD Banknorth members do the same.

I will leave you with this...

TD BANKNORTH SUCKS! STAY AWAY!

Hello. I was very ill for awhile and my credit did take a dip, I went for a secured loan after I had paid off all of my credit card bills, except for 1. I was denied a secured loan, even though I had the money to secure in my savings.
So, I asked why.
No mind you, I had another secured loan with TD bank which I paid off a year and a half early- no joke.
I was told because my account was left to a family member in case I died. Which is normal, I do not want them to go through hell to bury me.
It was the first time too, i explained.
Then I received another call and was told that it was my credit.
I explained that I understood that my credit was subpar, but it is a secured loan and I am giving you the money up front. I also said that I had just paid back my first loan 1.5 years early.
Then, I received yet another call and was told that I had applied for the loan at a branch, therefore, that is why i was accepted before, but the corporate end is more strict.
I said that they are one bank- not independently owned.
Bottom line folks, TD BANK sucks. They are great at taking your money and if you are a good customer with them- they will turn their back on you.

I have an extended family of about 18. All 18 of us use to bank at TD bankNorth. Then the green books arrived. I read mine, reread it, reread it again and was outraged. I picked up the phone and called all 18 relatives, because I know they don't read this stuff from the banks, and told them what I was reading. Some read it, some threw the package in the trash, some even dug them out of the trash to confirm what I was saying.
Needless, TDBanknorth just lost 18 accounts from my end. I went to a credit union.
I think it is ridiculous that they want you to keep so much money in the bank or get a monthly fee! There were 4 people in my household and each one of us had different fees. My daughter's, for example, was the most ridiculous. She is a full time college student and part time worker. They wanted her to keep 1000 dollars in the bank or pay a 17 dollar fee a month. What a nerve! GO TO A CREDIT UNION.

Banknorth DOES suck! They forget that it is because of their customers that they are even in business. People have been brainwashed over the past several decades into thinking they can't live without a checking account. HELLO, ...everyone can and SHOULD live without a checking account until the banks realize that they can no longer rip off their customers with utter disregard for ethical business practices. People should only deal with savings accounts that pay interest and don't have any maintenance fees. People need to wake up and band together against the thieves that call themselves 'your friendly local bank'. HA! I say Jesse James and Dillinger and all the bank robbers of the past are heroes, the banks had it coming, and they have it coming now. Between the EXCESSIVE FEES, 'creative' bookkeeping, and all the bull**** they hand us when they try to tell us that they are 'only following policy' when they empty our accounts every chance they get, we will all be poor. I'm telling you, you gotta start realizing your power and drop the checking accounts. Pay bills in person, with money orders, prepaid credit cards, debits from savings accounts and whatever other way there is. Send the banks a message, drop your checking accounts!

I'm no paticular fan of TD Banknorth but in this case I'm not sure what they did wrong. If you don't pay your bills any bank is going to close your account and send it to collections. As far as being notified, you should always keep track of your spending and shouldn't depend on any institution to tell you when and how much you overspend.

It is the attitude that our spending is someone else’s responsibility that has resulted in the current financial crisis we face. We need to live within our means and not blame others for our own actions.

TD Bank Fake checks

I received a letter in the mail saying that I had won $450, 000.00 along with a check in the amount of $4, 950.00. They have a name on the letter that you are supposed to call before claiming your winnings. Tax agent Kathy Sowder told me to deposit the check but didn't ask for my account number, so unfortunately I deposited the check not knowing the check was a fake, my bank called me and wanted to report me to the police for check fraud, therefore they closed my checking account. The purpose of this check was to pay the Non-Resident Government Service Tax. The promotions manager's name is Sam Garfield. I think that theses people that are trying to create scams ought to be in jail. This kind of crap is ridiculous. They also give you a serial number that you won on. Like for example: the serial number they gave me was [protected]. There is no such number, also the same for the address that they give you. Something needs to be done about these scams.

I have just recieved a letter today saying that I have won 250, 000.00 and that I needed to cash the 3, 900.00 check that was enclosed in the envelope addressed from the same scamers that all of you guys have mentioned. After reading, I did notice that they want you to deposit and then send them 95% of your deposit. I did not fall for the crap because ANY LOTTERY THAT ASKS YOU TO PAY THE TAXES IS A SCAM!If you do win, the taxes are taken out of your winnings from the state. So I say better luck next time silly rabbits, tricks are for kids!

"This kind of crap is ridiculous."
No, what's ridiculous is that you thought that corporations simply handed out free money. Do you live in the 21st century or not?
