TD Bank unfair fees

I've been with TD Bank when they bought Peoples Heritage out. I like the simply free checking they offered. Well when Commerce bank bought TD Bank I thought ok, we'll go with it. Ever since they took over, I have paid them more than what I make working everyweek in overdraft charges from companies that were not authorized to constantly take money out of my account. When I asked about the overdraft protection you have to fill out a credit application. I don't have credit. So I can't get this coverage that I used to get under the old TD Bank. I'm outraged. I also don't get my overdraft statements until 5-6 days later due to it being mailed from New Jersey now. I've asked them to reset my online account so I can see my expenses and no one has done that yet and it's over a year later! Now I'm getting hit with $35 returned check fees and everything else. This bank is only looking out for itself. It's not a convience bank. They closed the Casco, Maine branch and makes everyone from the surrounding areas drive to Windham, ME which is 30 mins out of the way. What the hell? I'm tired of being treated like a number. You can't can't sqeeze blood out of a turnip. Well I think TD Bank found a way!

TD Bank/Commerce sucks. They are rude, careless, and love to blame YOU for their mistakes. I went to deposit a payroll check on a Friday, and carefully made sure to ask the teller if she was on the same banking day. She assured me she was, so I processed the check. On MONDAY, a check I wrote cleared and I received an overdraft fee of $35. When I wrote to customer service, they told me to call. When I called, they called me a liar first, then told me regardless of what the teller tells me, it has to be in before 6:00. Then they told me to go into the branch. When I went into the branch, they claimed they never said that it was in on the same banking day, and that they don't make it a practice to do that after 4:00. Talk about rude... And on top of this, they gave me some BS excuse about how they couldn't refund my fee because they had already refunded an overdraft fee from two months prior because of a similar F-up. Surprise Surprise!

So Anyway... I left them and went with another bank. If you're in NJ, Peapack-Gladstone is the way to go. They won't hit you with these insane fees, and are actually caring and accommodating to your needs. They will actually "WOW" and have gone above and beyond my expectations. Plus, they are still small enough so that their customer services hasn't been outsourced to a foreign country somewhere and their hiring standards are much greater. They hire competent staff, not rude, thoughtless, careless ###.

TD Bank is the biggest rip off ever. They steal your money right out of your account. They have online banking and the numbers from online banking dont match what "they" see on their screen. This is a bunch of ###! They claim their system updates in real time, but then they hold tranactions for days even though you see it removed from your balance. Its like magic that things appear later in time with a "fee" and no explanition. You have to call coustomer service and they have to search and prod then tell you such and such check/item was off. It dosent even show in the online banking. I know for sure they have a class action lawsuit in the future and I will be right on board. This last week they stole over $500.00 from me bouncing ### because of their fees, so I got fees caused by fees. Td bank your future in stealing is gonna be limited. ###!

I opened a free checking account only to find out 12 months later, it was not free. The have now charged me two maintenance fees and an overdraft fee, totaling $45.61. I want my $2 back. How are you going to send me to collections over a monthly maintenance fee and an overdraft charge on a maintenance fee. Close the account already. Really not America's most convenient bank. When I called in to ask about the account I was told that I had to give them a transaction. SO I had to log into online banking and research one. I never use the account and will be closing it. I will tell everyone who will listen how ridiculous this bank is.

They have the same WOW service in Canada, You see how they can screw you, make it look legal, and all you can say is WOW! - TD Bank got too big too fast, all they see is how they can get more "Green" out of your pocket. They call themselves "stores" to ensure you know, they are in the business to make money, your money!

For those of you inquiring about a lawsuit and are interested in becoming a class member, there is a lawfirm working on putting a class action lawsuit together. The more complaints and proof the attorneys have, the better the chances are at winning a substantial amount. Substantial enough for TD Bank to improve their business practices. I just finished sending in my information to the Trief & Olk Law Firm.
There is also a website where the firm is retrieving complaints from Go to http://www.bank-overdraft.com/cases/td.htm

Here is what you should do:

1. Keep all receipts for your debit card transactions to support your actual date and time of transaction.

2. Print the daily transactions reports off of the website DAILY, EVERY SINGLE DAY (This REALLY shows how they are re-ordering transactions, if you could see mine you would shake your head! BIG TIME... I got these thieves GOOD).

3. Print the pending transactions as well.

4. When complaining to TD Bank, rather than calling them - email them through the website for documentation and proof.

Save all of this info and remit to Attorneys

the posters here who work for the bank underline how bad TD Bank's customer's service is. o employee2 and other idiots working for a bank - I don't care how your stupid industry works! Their customer service is in Lewiston, Maine and Cheery Hill, New Jersey [censored]! And yes, it was an uncollected funds fee. One less idiot that TD Bank has to worry about. Sorry Peapack-Gladstone.
Oh, and "GEDES", you probably didn't get your line because your DTI is through the roof. TD Bank didn't give you a loan because they don’t give money to any putz demanding it. BOA does, which is why the government gave them billions for handing money out like water.

I have never heard such stupidity. I work in banking, and this guy obviously got an UNCOLLECTED funds fee, not an overdraft fee, because his PAYROLL CHECK was made available for use at ATMs and through his debit card as a COURTESY. Think of it as the bank loaning you money until they COLLECT the funds from the bank the check is drawn off of. If you write a check and it comes through on the AVAILABLE (NOT CLEARED) funds, they pay the checks you wrote and charge you for writing what is essentially a bad check, because the money is...wait for it...UNCOLLECTED. Sorry the bank doesn't honor your ability to write checks prior to depositing money in your account. Read your disclosure, and if you "didn't get one", ask for one and read it.

TD Bank td bank back dated a check to make it bounce when funds were available

TD Bank back dated a check to make it bounce when funds were available. They bounced a payroll check for one of my employees despite the funds being available. I had to run to the bank and wire the funds from the account the check was on to the employees account in a different state. The check showed up in the account on a Saturday when there was ample money available to pay for it but they back dated it to Friday when we had confirmed that it hadn't come in.

There was over 15, 000 available on Saturday and 16, 000 available on Monday when they made the decision to bounce the 12, 000 check. They seem to have entered the wrong date for the check date and then bounced it despite the fact that funds were clearly available.

Then when asked about it the branch which said on Friday that it hadn't come in, simply blamed their "back office" like they have nothing to do with anything. And the fact that I've been there for 15 years and do over a million dollars in transactions per year wasn't even enough to get anyone to care at all. They made up excuses and tried to blame me.

I had to go in and wire the money that had been sitting there the whole time to the employee that they bounced the check to. Nobody at the Hawthorn NJ branch ever apologized at all. Not even a lame attempt. They didn't offer to return the fees or pay for the wire transfer or stopping the check so it couldn't come back and be taken out again. They blamed the back office and made excuses.

I stayed with Commerce even though I moved an hour away because I loved them and they were great for a long time. Unfortunately TD Bank's attempts to make the service more efficient seem to have taken any power away from the people that were good. Commerce was an awesome bank, but TD Bank is definitely NO Commerce.

I guess no bank is perfect, but even when it's obvious that they made a mistake they clearly handled this horribly and only made it worse. The mistake was bad, but the response (or lack of any response) was equally bad!

Find another smaller local bank because TD Banks has clearly changed into a big bank with a big bank attitude! They kept the same hours as Commerce but that seems like all they have left from Commerce Bank.

TD BANK is clearly No Commerce.

TD Bank customer service is a joke

The customer service of this Bank is a joke. They have no idea what they are talking about, and give wrong/incomplete information.

I don't understand how JD Power can rank this Bank as the best in customer satisfaction. Thank god I don't have to deal with that junk anymore...

If you are looking for a good bank that does not nickel and dime you on everything STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK...

TD Bank fees and awful service

I am struggling right now and in the process of losing my house. I recently forgot about a check that I wrote for a $100.00 and had a rippling down affect that caused me to get $425.00 in fees. I called to get fees waived down and spoke to the main number and they credited me 2 fees now knowing that i was getting $140.00 more in fees. Look I understand about the fees and I understand why we get some of them but when you call and they decided to tell you that... listen to this, they switched me to the main store because they are only allowed to wiave 2 fees and after being on the phone for 30 minutes I got the manager of the Maywood store. I do not recall opening the account their but they switched me there anyway. The manager got on the phone and refused to waive fees and go on and tell me " YOU ARE GOING AROUND AND HAVING A GREAT TIME USING YOUR CARD AND HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY" Her name is Becky she is the manager and I want a written apology from her. I am having hard times and I am not galavanting around town using my card for whatever. i am trying to make ends meet and sometimes you make a mistake. There is no reason for here to degrade me and make me feel worse than I already do trying to salvage my house. I am sooooo upset and I never write complain to anyone but this is soo painful and awful, I have to speak my mind. Thank you all for listening. Stephen A. a distraught TD BANK customer.

TD Bank proof of how td bank screws people over.

Ridiculous. I also have a pending 35 dollar overdraft fee putting me down to negative 71.42. Before I went to get pizzahut, I saw the avaliable balance. Now this is the AVAILABLE balance, not the balance for the day and it showed me that I had $45.31! so I said. ok, pizzahut for 30 bucks? I'm good. Went out to get pizzahut and then the Playstation network that wasn't even pending ever! just goes through out of no where. From the looks of it, I am getting charged an overdraft fee for pizzahut because I already had -5.61 in my account because I was overdrafted for no reason before getting pizzahut. This makes on sense and I want to switch banks badly. 2 overdraft fees. one that I wasn't aware of, and the pending one I shouldn't even be getting!

TD Bank overdraft fee?? why?

It first started off where for some reason it said that I had 34 dollars available in my account. I wish I had proof for that.. -_- It shows differently in my history however. So I used the $30.81 on pizzahut. So I should have had about 3 dollars or so left. Instead, a few days later. I realized that an overdraft charge was placed before the pizzahut charge. I really don't understand why. So the pizzahut was finally charged with the overdraft charge (of course) and I haven't used my card since. So I thought I was overdrafted because I apparently didn't have enough, even though it said I did but that changed.. for the pizzahut purchase where I didn't have enough, but this is what baffles me.Today, I opened up the account online again and noticed that my negative available balance had gone down again! as of now, I am dealing with another Pending overdraft charge for another 35 dollars. I really don't know why since I haven't used my card since pizzahut!.

Maggie,
While i agree with your statement about using a check register. TD Bank has WAY to many unethical and imo...illegal practices... including the reorganizing of the days charges from time of debit or charge to the highest amount to smallest. This practice can add several OD charges to your account when in fact there should only have been 1. And as for the register? should they be used ? yes . Are they? No... Grow up TD its 2010 and Ya'll act like its 1970.

TD Bank review: bad banking practices, worse customer service

Since TD's take over from Commerce bank, the services with this bank have _significantly_ worsened. Among the worst of the worse is their customer service. We, as customers put our trust in the bank by putting our money in the accounts through them. Instead of appreciating that trust and treating customers with professional courtesy, I have found their staff to be repeatedly rude, condescending, and/or unprofessional (New York, NY branch near the UN).

The Commerce Bank staff (where HAVE they gone?) were, comparatively, congenial, professional, and approachable, everything that TD is NOT. Anyone reading this, who does not bank with TD, do not. There are many choices, and TD should not be among the choices you make with your money--unless they go back to the way Commerce Bank did business and worked. Unless they begin to train their staff (or get rid of the ones with repeated complaints against them).

To anyone from TD Bank reading this (would be surprised--pleasantly, if someone cares to read what the customers have to say), here's a question for you: Why do you call your bank branches "stores"? This is on your website, the business cards of your supervisors (whose numbers cannot be reached because they are "either disconnected, or no longer in service"?)!

TD is a sad excuse for a bank

I was a customer of Commerce Bank for years, and they were fantastic. Then it was taken over by TD Bank. Since then, every change that they have done, has made the bank worse and worse! The Commerce Bank's Bill Pay Online was flawless and your bills were paid quickly without problems. Now, TD Bank's Bill Pay Online is awful! When you click on it, it takes forever to load, and when you tell them to pay your bills, you had better expect them to be paid late. These are electronic transactions that should take no more than 24 hours, however, this new TD Bank Bill Pay system takes several DAYS to pay your bills. Often it takes 5 to 7 days! There is absolutely no reason for these delays.
The TD Bank website was recently changed again, and now it looks like a Playschool design. Forget about printing out your account details or balances from this new website, because it won't print properly. When I complained by secure message email on their site, I got a snotty response from some jerk saying it takes time to get used to the new changes. How the hell is that an answer? It's not. Unfortunately, that seems to be the new normal now for TD Bank's customer service. There is none, you have to take it or leave it. Well, I'm now looking for a better bank, that still believes that they should respect me, as it's MY MONEY that they are using to support themselves. If you are considering TD Bank, I would recommend that you look elsewhere. The original Commerce Bank was great, but they are long gone now.

TD Bank rude tellers

I have been a member of this bank for many years and over the last 9 months, I have had the ABSOLUTELY WORST service I have ever had. There is one teller who has been there for over 2 years who is the most helpful, pleasant and outstanding teller I had ever dealt with. This teller goes out of her way to make my visit very pleasant and will take her time to add things on my deposit slips if needed, look up my account number if needed or just fill out of the slip. I came in earlier in the week and this teller was not there and I went to a young teller who was rude and told me that I needed to add up my deposit slip before I came up to see her. I explained to her that I would rather it be done by her to make sure my math is correct. She huffed and hesitated but did it. I was at the point to pull my accounts which total well over 100K. If I continue to be treated like this believe you me, this will happen. I have noticed that this teller is not there as much and I have heard from others that her hours have been cut. It is a shame because she is the reason that myself and many of the older population come there. She makes us feel very welcome and spends the time and doesn't rush us through just to get things done. I think that the bank needs to reassess her hours and realize how much she does for the population and makes us feel very comfortable! I hope that this does reach not only the bank manager but his superior and something gets done to this snippy young teller and the other teller gets recognizition for all she does for the bank.

TD Bank unreasonable hold on account

Most Convenient Bank? this is FALSLY Advertised byt this bank. After I had rented a vehicle from Hertz Rent a car and paid in full, Hertz continued to refer me over to TD BANK to remove the hold and TD BANK continue to push me over to Hertz to ressolve the issue. This Bank has conducted itself most inefficiently with service and falsly advertises it's deficient service as being something of competitive value. Contacting customer service and getting something done is a serious waste of time and produces nothing but headaches for the customer. This Bank is just one more reason why Americans MUST boycott the banking system!

Td bank is not a good bank for small business, they can ruin our business with this policy of holding check for 10 days. Also if you want to rent a car, please don't use TDBANK. They will hold your deposit for 1 month before they release it. This is not fair. This is ripoff
The regulating council should do something on this bank before they mess people business out.

I closed my account with a 0 (zero) balance. Four months later, they started calling me every day, telling them I owe them $111 for some charge that they said was "disputed" at the time when the account was closed, and therefore did not show on the statement at that time. I NEVER DISPUTED ANYTHING - they simply made the whole thing up, and I ended paying for the $111 twice (the second time after they forcefully re-opened my account).

I am still not very sure I got rid of them though - they ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO SEND YOU ANY STATEMENTS or anything showing balances, transactions, etc, "because you no longer have an account with us." They call you on Saturdays and Sunday, in the middle of the night, etc.

Oh, I forgot to mention - the reason I closed the account is because you MUST have a balance of $100 or more at all times, otherwise they charge exorbitant fees. If you have any respect for your money, find ANY OTHER BANK. They are the devil!

TD Bank terrible customer service

Terrible terrible customer service! No one fully knows what they are doing. All I needed was a change of address and new card with my married name. Everytime I made my trip to the bank they had new excuses. So after 3 trips to the bank and several hours sitting and waiting I finally got my new card printed only to find out later when trying to use it that it was not activated when given to me. Thenn I call customer service and they send me to an automated system to activate the card. So thinking it was activated once again the next day I try to make a purchase and all over again I find myself on the phone! On the phone with customer service again and they tell me my account was closed?!? Td bank seems to have many employees at their locations but no one that truly knows how to do there job correctly. I'm pretty sure the last person who gave me that card was not trying to help me at all. I'm pretty sure after this I will be taking my money and leaving td bank! Bunch of idiots who throw you back and forth!

TD bank will instate policies such as 1. your deposited work check does which previously cleared in total now will only be cleared for 100.00 as opposed to the full amount it used to clear for. obviously things do not get paid, without you knowing they charge you a maximum overdraft fee. They really want your money so bad they will rip you off to get it. DO NOT use TD Bank unless you want them to rip off your hard earned money. i also got sent to three different branches to try to resove this. they deny it is their fault which it clearly is. terrible customer service.

There is no way for TD bank to know if a check drawn from another financial institution actually has the funds in there account to cover that check. As a COURTESY TD bank once made that check AVAILABLE the same day. It is different from actually clearing, it takes up to 5 days sometimes for it to actually CLEAR. If for some reason the paycheck you deposit is no good, and you spend that money not only will it be turned on you but also the bank and it is a returned check and you are also out of that money until the issue is resolved. I believe it is a good thing for the $100.00 availability policy, it stops a lot more fraud and causes less returned checks. They have a next day availability policy, as long as your in by 6 pm, your money will be available the next morning. In some cases, Tuesday morning if you get there after 6 pm on a Friday because of the weekend.

TD Bank td bank seems determined to lose loyal customersc

TD Bank seems determined to lose loyal customers. Recently within a three day span I was charged $180 in overdraft fees. The reasoning behind this was the transactions are posted the following day so the account history I have online is pretty much useless and I'm ok with that. But then I had an authorized transaction the following day and I called TD bank to dispute the overdraft fee that was associated specifically with that one charge and they informed me that there was nothing they could do. Forgoing the fact that I just paid nearly $200 dollars in fees for transactions that came up to less than $100 dollars.
I just can't believe that a bank would be willing to lose a customer that has no problem paying these outrages fees over pennies. I put up with the whole online problem months ago, and the hour changes, but when a bank can't give a customer the same courtesy it's time to move on. I choose TD Bank actually Commerce bank because of the location, hours and friendliness, but TD Bank seems determined to purge all its customers.

TD Bank could care less about you as a customer or if you stay with them or not. They have this illusion that they will continue to grow no matter how much they abuse the customers. For the most part, they have done just that. However, history tells us that greed driven, deceptive and abusive businesses, countries, and even vast empires all eventually crumble when they behave this way. The best thing any customer who is dissatisfied with TD can do is LEAVE. There is the embarrassment of choice with regards to other banks. No matter what some of the hackneyed defenders of TD say on this site, most other banks are far superior to TD. I have finally cut ties with TD and very happy I did. Interestingly enough, bankers at most other institutions are very aware of TD deceptive practices.

I recently lost my atm card for tdbank I went into the bank and reported the lost and asked them to cancel the card needless to say a few days after charges came in on the card which td bank paid then turned around and charge my account $140. in overdraft fees then to add insult to injury when I called to find out what was going on about my account the crappy customer service rep had the gall to hang up on me. Absolutely the worst bank ever. Needless to say I closed my account with them and never got my money back. Beware of TDbank they sucker you in with all this nicey, nicey crap until they get your money.

I don't owe TD bank any money therefore your Thief comment is just another example of how clueless you are and how unsubstantiated any of your arquements are. The original poster was given excessive fees that he or she would not have had at other banks. At my bank it would have been much less expensive. Even if you ignore that fact and insult me or the poster it doesn't change the reality of TD banks' excessive charges.

Stealing money? What are you talking about? I don't condone stealing money. A line of credit must be paid back. With TD bank an emergency expense can put a person up to $210 in the negative in one day if they have multiple $35 charges (plus monthly fees) compared to paying back interest at much less expense at another bank with no monthly fees or OD charges. You can bank at TD bank if you want & I'll stay at my bank. My words are full of logic but you haven't brought any logic to this chat. I'm done posting with you.

Also, Perfect with your check register person: Did you know that sometimes people have misc expenses such as when their vehicle breaks down, or hospital bills, & etc. If they don't have enough money saved to fix their problems then they might struggle financially even temporarily & then get slammed by charges at TD Bank. It doesn't mean that they are irresponsible with a check register.

A check for $1000 from TD Bank could not bring me back to that bank. It's a matter of principle now.

You'd have to be wealthy or Naive to choose an account that issues you a $35 charge per transaction when your balance goes a penny below zero rather than a different bank account that offers a line of credit at 07% interest. It is very seldom that I have needed it but I'll choose the better bank account that charges me less in service charges. Also TD Bank will charge you $15 if your checking account goes below $100. (It was previously a Simply Free checking account before they changed it during the recession) I'll choose the bank account with no minimum balance requirement at another bank. It even bears interest. The issue is not that most people are less responsible than you, The issue is that TD Bank's accounts do not match up with the features of other accounts at different banks. If the concept of comparing features of bank accounts is difficult for you to understand than your screen name Tired of Being Stupid makes sense. BTW I have a lot more than $100 in my account now. I was putting myself through school, & working full time to support my family. Even though my wealth surpasses their current minimum balance requirements I'll never bank with TD Bank again because of the excessive fees and charges that they gave to me at that time of my life. You really should stop judging people that you don't know. I've read stories from people with disabilities being taken advantage of by TD Bank. They prey upon the less fortunate in our society at the worst times with their excessive fees. I hope that you never struggle financially as many others have while banking with TD Bank.

rwhidbee,

I switched to another bank & everything changed. I have no more monthly fees, no minimum balance for my checking account, & the checking account is interest bearing. They automatically gave me a line of credit of $500 at 7% interest. I needed to use the line of credit twice this year & it cost me literally pennies before I paid it off a day later. TD Bank would have charged me $35 per transaction. Bottom line: TD Bank has expensive accounts that are inferior to other banks.

Tired of stupid, You are either wealthier than most TD Bank customers such as myself (I'm in the middle class income range & I've had more problems with TD Bank than I have ever had with any bank) and/or you work for them because you are choosing to defend a bank that is unethical & very expensive to the average customer. They raised minimum balances of checking accounts to Americans during the worst recessionthat we have had in decades. Of course there were going to be complaints from some people. TD Bank offers customers crap compared to what other banks due in regards to fees & services.

TD Bank worst bank ever

TD Bank is the worst bank every they have no right to charge anyone a surcharge fee every month, I would not recommend anyone to open a account with them, their service STINKS.In life people goe through things and it not fair that they should be able to do charge a consumer a 15.00 dollar surcharge that has been with them since they were COMMERCE BANK.Who every owns this bank now is a money hungry ***.I will eventually pay my bill but they need to have some type of concertration for people whoo have no job or iether or a fixed income.

Over the weekend, TD Bank merged with TD Bank north, I wish they prepare themselves for it. They are not having system glitches as one would expect...instead they have their whole operations on the standstill! Try accessing online banking - you are getting a message - If you need immediate assistance, please call [protected] - try dialing the number - what you hear is YOUR NUMBER CAN NOT BE COMPLETED AS DIALED! It gets even better, when you go to the branch, the manager will angrily tell you, that the system has been just integrated and they do not know how to work it. You can send a wire, but it the bank can not tell you when it will reach the recipient, you can not check your balance because the system in not allowing. To sum it up if your business has an account at TD Bank you can close your doors and go home, can run your business, can not do your accounting and TD Bank chose the end of the month to make you, your customers and vendors "happy". TD Bank is the worst ever, they delayed my mortgage for 1 month and I eventually lost the house. I tried to contact the load processor via emails/phone calls/voice mails, unbelievably she wouldn't get back to me day after day, and even week after week. I tried calling her suppervisor, customer service, they are not helping!(all the BS like send her email, she will get back to you in 1 business day..blala..) and now I have to deal with them for the fees they charging me.

Stay away from this bank!

TD Bank posting practices

I hope someone is investigating TD Bank's posting practices. I wrote a check and placed it in the RENT DROP box of my apt. complex office on Tuesday morning. As of late Tuesday night, the check had not been presented (as you would expect). Every Wednesday morning, my direct deposit goes in. The rule for direct deposit is: funds are available at the opening of business that day.

When I next checked my account, the rent check had been posted prior to the direct depost, and I was charged 35 dollars, which caused another overdraft and another 35 dollar charge, and a third...

How can a paper check presented at another financial instituion (I confirmed w/the rental office) hit my account on the same day and before my direct deposit, when it was not showing that night? How can they post debits BEFORE credits? Why do online payments go though when there is not suffcient funds and hit me for 35 bucks, instead of generating a no-cost message that my payment did not go?

Customers should be closing their account and fleeing these financial pirates in large numbers.

TD Bank's check posting policies are paramount to fraud.

I check my account online regularly, and when I don't check it online, I call the banking line to check my account balance. I had paper checks outstanding I knew were going to post to my account. On 5/5 the check still hadn't posted, so I went out and picked up a couple of things, knowing there'd be more money in my account on 5/6. At 12:01AM 5/6 the check outstanding still hadn't posted to my account. On 5/6 when I got up in the morning, the check posted to my account, but my bank statement claims it posted on 5/5, even though it wasn't there the previous night and even after midnight this next morning. So TD Bank not only posts the check to my account, and they paid it, but they charged me overdraft fees, not for the check, but for the two transactions I made the previous day that did not bounce the account, because those transactions were still pending, but when I made those transactions, I had plenty of money in the bank.

Now, another issue I have with them is this. I make purchases for oil, and it shows up on pending transactions. We use oil heat, and it's expensive. So I have $400 pending when I buy the oil. The next day, the pending transaction is gone, it hasn't posted to my account, it's just gone, and the money is back in the account like it never happened. 3-5 days later, the account actually goes through. That issue has never actually bounced my account, but what's the excuse for disappearing pending transactions?

I hope that sometime in the near future the banking regulations change specifically with this bank in mind. In the meantime, I will have to choose between Wachovia, Bank of America, Lakeland Bank, or Chase.

I just opened an account with TD. I deposited $250 cash via the ATM on 12/1. My receipt says $101 of that is available...ok fine. I then go out to get dinner and used my debit card. I got home and checked my account to see I was in the negative and the deposit I had just made didn't show up. I called and asked WHERE my deposit was and that I was in the negative when I shouldn't have been. Rep said he could see the deposit was made but there was nothing available to use due to the 'new account hold'. I asked well why is that not reflected on my receipt? He gave me some gibberish and I was telling him if I had used my debit card and been humiliated bc my card was rejected I would have closed the account and gone right back to Chase. Funny how fast that $100 became available. As of this AM 12/2 I now see the $250, of which $150 is pending. MESSED UP!

While I agree with Tired of stupid I just had the same problem with this bank and yes I am very diligent with my record keeping and I never overdraft. I went to a movie and purchased some refreshments then the next evening my mother bought the wrong food for my dog, he is allergic to corn and certain kinds of nuts. I called her and she said if I fixed the problem she would pay me back only after I explained the situation to her, when I got home she went back on our deal. I scrounged up the five dollars which I deposited the next day to cover the transaction. They kept my deposit pending until the next day intentionally (cash is cash and should appear immediately nothing needs to clear) so when the other pending transactions came through it would overdraft my account. The problem is 2 of the 3 purchases were from the same vendor and they should have posted them chronologically by date or by vendor they place the one that was from Sunday night first, then Monday night and last the final Sunday night purchase. It looks like this,
05/11/2010 DEBIT CARD VISA DDA PUR
CINEMAGIC QPS SACO *ME $.35 -$4.59
05/11/2010 POS DDA PURCHASE *0050
HANNAFORD 0389 WELLS *ME $7.35 -$4.24
05/11/2010 DEBIT CARD VISA DDA PUR
CINEMAGIC QPS SACO *ME $8.77 $3.11

Notice how I did not post any personal information by doing this.
There are two larger issues here, first what they are doing is unethical and I have seen many businesses be shut down for such practices, second unethical and all what they are doing is also illegal and could be classified as borderline extortion, see definition.

In the United States, extortion may also be committed as a federal crime across a computer system, phone, by mail or in using any instrument of "interstate commerce." Extortion requires that the individual sent the message "willingly" and "knowingly" as elements of the crime. The message only has to be sent (but does not have to reach the intended recipient) to commit the crime of extortion.
Basically they are willingly and knowingly doing this but will not admit the offense because if they do it would incriminate them for said crime. In my case the message was not only sent but received via the online banking.

Remember, almost all of the banks in this country are a member of FDIC who's job at the moment is to insure and protect 250, 000 dollars of a person's money and it is my understanding that any bank who has entered into an agreement with the FDIC has therefore agreed to protect peoples money. While some fees are fair and necessary there are limits and should not be allowed to con us hard working blue collar citizens out of their money.

It would be absolutely fantastic if someone out there would do the right thing and create a bank that was honest and fair. There are ways to make money without deceit.
I will leave you with a pair of quotes
Honor: It is better to fair with honor than to win be deceit;
Truth: Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

It's amazing that TD Banks policy is to post the largest amounts to your account first. The reason they do this is so when your deposit brings your account into the POSITIVE they can take out that large chunk of OVERDRAFT FEEs and put you back in the negative and then charge you for the six withdraws after that (which average 3-6 dollars). It's a total scam that lets them make money on a $2 cup of coffee. In 2 days I deposited $750 out of which they took $385 for overdraft fees... and they wonder why people can't make it today!

Why don't they charge a % of what they cover for you instead of a flat fee? Why because they'd make no money that way... The customer service rep I spoke with assured me that the BANK is not making any money with overdfaft fees.. HAHA What a laugher... I told her that I knew she worked at the bank so she had to be "PRO-BANK" I beleive that there is a special place that BANK big wigs will go to EVENTUALLY.

TD Bank usurious fees without notice

TD Bank in East Northport NY has so far charged over $570.00 in overdraft charges on transactions of a Debit Card. The Debit card is NOT a Charge Card, and when I complained several times I was unable to see the Bank Manager in person. He was unavailable during the working day and unavailable during working hours. Naturally, he is unavailable at other times. His response to my inquiries, related through an employee named Elizabeth was a curt "NO, we cannot help you" ...left on my answering machine.
The problem: Dunkin Donuts in East Northport NY had decided on 36 Mar 2010 to put through transactions, debit and otherwise, that for some reason did not get processed since mid-february, even though the transactions were approved by the banks.
The customers were hit with debit withdrawals-one for each transaction. TD Bank immediatey hit me with a $175.00 FEE, and then other substantial feees for over a weeks time to again over $570.00. I was unable to stop the process as the 'YES' Bank was not co-operative at all. I am still unable to have representation in this process and I believe ot is time for the Atty Generals office to get involved.

I expect the bank to work with me, the consumer-customer, to NOT CHARGE ME for Dunkin Donuts Error.
The transactions were approved and initally shown on-line as being taken by the bank.
Yes, You are correct, it is MY Money. The banks have taken the right to charge usurious fees against the consumer/customer without government approval, and without my right to take action against it.
This is equal to taxation without representation, and I for one, bristol against it.
We are being robbed by the banks and I will never trust them again, and if you cannot see it, you are either blind, too trusting, or a banker. The world needs to revolt against the banking system and make it more equitable.

TD Bank predatory lending

BEWARE ALL BUSINESS OWNERS. TD Bank may offer a small business loan. You may get the money. BEWARE that you may not be able to adjust or increase your credit line. I have 810 credit score. I was commended on my business plan. We broke all projections by two accounting offices. One of the accounting offices was even reccomended by TD Bank. I received a credit line from them however I beleive they lend you money to get you "in" and then LOOK OUT! I beleive they are purposly approving loans with a prommise of more funding after "they see how it goes". What is really happening is they are giving just enough for you to sign the paper and then they walk away. This allows them to keep collecting intrest without getting in deeper. This intrest is paying off their bad banking losses. After 25 years in business and with a long history of owning several businesses, this bank is the worst bank you can possibly do business with. If your are considering a loan or credit line with a bank do not sign with the devil. Borrowing from TD Bank was the worst thing I have ever done in business in 25 years.

TD Bank crap crap and more crap

I did receive the green book. It was basically "...bla bla bla we are adding new fees including maintenance fees bla bla bla..." Because of that, I went to the Newark, DE branch on Jan 29 and closed all three of my business accounts which all had zero balance. Comes Feb, 1st. All three account got charge the $25.00 maintenance fees taking the balances to -$25.00. I have been demanding since then that the accounts be closed to no avail, maintenance AND overdraft fees keep coming. I have filed complains with the BBB, FTC and Delaware Bank commission and I am waiting to see how it goes. Yes I would love to be part of a class action lawsuit and put that bank out of business but unfortunately, the chances of that happening are slim.

TD Bank td bank sucks and is unprofessional!

My girlfriend had an account at TD Bank and put 300 dollars on her card. On 3 different occasions, she tried using it and it wouldn't go through. The first time, she called them up and their explanation was that it only works at certain locations, which is bull, because it should work anywhere. So, finally, the third time, 3/12/2010, she tried using it, and nothing! She got on the phone, screamed and withdrew her business from the bank. They called back a little later, and it turns out that all this was because they misspelled her last name!

I had to use my card, and if I wasn't there, she wouldn't have had any money, and it's all TD Bank's fault! They're unprofessional, and I'm going to forbid anyone I know from using them.

Got a lawn mower through this bank $36.00 a month in order to pay it of quicker I set it up to pay on the 10th of each month and the 17th on my computer but I put in to pay $40.00 each payment I keep getting behind every month I knew this could not be right. When I called in to ck the lady told me that the payment was due on the 15th of each month and that by receiving it on the 17th it was late I ask her about the payment that I was making on the 10th and she said that didn't matter the one on the 17th was the one that they looked at and were charging me $35.00 late fee every month even thought i was paying too times a month so I was giving them one payment a month for nothing. I just sent in the bal. Paid in full. I will never use this bank again. They are worse than Well Fargo

I have a business account, I have lost over $4000 in overdraft fees and yes doesnt matter how hard I try to avoid this fees they always hit the account. And to those slick that always jump saying ohhhhhhhhh if you dont have the funds dont used it, well...I do have the funds but they trick you in all the ways to hit you with the fees. The goverment doesnt do nothing, the law enforcement doesnt do nothing, the bank and our local politicians doesnt do nothing...My bank account is [protected], I hope that someday 1 judge makes them refund back all the overdraft fees that they have take from us like they ruled in California to Wells Fargo.
