TCF Bank nsf charges after tcf tok money out

Tcf Bank just pulled a pretty awful maneuver on me. They took all the money out of my checking account ($187) to cover a business account of my father which was overdrawn and apparently has my name on it (even though I never signed anything or knew about it) and then charged me $105 dollars worth of fees to cover about $25 dollars in purchases that I made while I still thought I had money in my account and transferred in $150 to replace the money they had taken away.

I called customer service and spoke to two different people, where it was explained that even thought i still had money in my account their new policy after april 1st. was to withhold money for charges that had not gone through yet as though the funds were not available. They then offered to take half the amount off the fees.

So they took money from my account without notifying me, then charged me $105 for $25 dollars in NSF charges even though there was about $40 in my account. They then reduce the charges by half to $50 and act as though they're doing me a favor?

I am tired of all the hassle that has come with my TCF bank account. I always feel like money is being extorted from me when they charge $35 so that I could have the luxury of over drafting my account for a cup of coffee but swiping all the money from my account and then charging for NSF charges?

I am going to close my account this weekend, and i advise you never to open one. Get a respectable small bank, and save yourself some grief and some money.

A bank ledger will not garrantee you to have a positive balance. I keep a electronic ledger in quicken and I checked their website. I had a conversation with the TCF idiot over the phone telling him his TCF online ledger is worthless because it is not up to date at the moment the purchase is made. He told me if I had a book ledger on my own this wouldnt happen. Well when TCF charges surprise maintenance fees without you knowing, what difference will that have. I think I will close this worthless account and go to Harris Bank. Their online ledger is updated the second the purchase is made. No surprises. Maybe the TCF programming idiots will learn from other successful banks.

I have a TCF bank account I just opened recently, and I have had no issues with them in the past either. I banked with TCF for about 5 years with a joint account with an ex, and when that dissolved, I closed the account. I opened a new savings due to the awesome 3% interest that they give. In all my years with TCF, I never ONCE had a problem.

From the way I look at it, TCF has thier policy on NSF issues, and they followed them, and were nice enough to reduce it by 50%. Your MAJOR issue here is with your father putting YOUR name on an account. Simple solution would be to have your dad pay you back for all of the NSF fees, and the original amount.

I don't understand the issue with people being lazy and doing their bank ledger 'in their head'. If you keep a bank ledger, and are smart with your transactions (I.E. - not FLOATING checking, and such), you won't have an issue. I know that my ex used to do the 'in the head' method, and she was ALWAY overdrawing her personal checking with TCF, because she was/is an idiot...

Maggie, my father has nothing to do with this. I just responded to derhutgeist's post with my own TCF story.

In a perfect world nobody would, frieri423. But then again in a perfect world a bank would not charge for the money they have not paid out yet either. Why don't they treat the deposits the same way then? Why do they resort to such tactics as not notifying their customers about the change in rules?
To folow up on my initial post. I have compained to bank overseeing agency, TCF refunded 5 NSF fees to my acount. I since stoped banking with TCF and switched to a small local bank that actually cares about its customers. I have not had any NSF or any other fees since then.
It is useless to talk to you, frieri423, I am sure. You are getting paid with the money that is collected in such a manner from the customers... It is not good business to have people do research and figure out what is the best way to screw your clients. I am sure the bank will go down sooner or later, and I hope it is sooner.
Have a nice day.

I work for TCF. I understand the new policy sucks but its logical. If you keep a checkbook register youd be fine. Some people try to swipe their card and put the money in later. Only use the card if you have money! lol come on!

oh yes! How do you like their new policy about pending transactions applied as if they were posted transactions? I had a nasty surprise this morning too. When I called today (04.29.2009) about NSF fees I was told about the new policy. When I asked why they did not notify me, they said they did- in february statement. I said that I did not receive statement for April, or, to think of it, for March or February. Representative told me that was because I signed up for electronic statements. I said I do not receive any statements in e-mail either and she answered that they are only available online under menu option "Statements". WOW! Of course, now that I think about it, I should have caught the fact that I stopped receiving the statements in mail, but we all lead busy lifes and have more than few accounts to take care off...

TCF Bank overcharged

I've been a customer of TCF Bank for a couple of years now and have had a lot of overdraft fee issues. I thought they must have been my fault for miscalculating and not knowing how transactions post, but yesterday I found out that TCF Bank has been ripping me off the whole time.

On Feb. 12 my account balance was $205.14. I made four purchases totaling $45.23 bringing my account balance to $159.91. The same night I checked my account balance online and noticed an ACH transaction pending for $200 after the purchases that I made earlier that day. So I recorded the ACH transaction in my register and brought down my balance to -$40.09. I subtracted a $35 NSF fee amount because that's what the bank charges for overdrawing the account. My final account balance was -$75.09.

Yesterday, Feb. 15, 2009 I went to a TCF Bank and deposited $160.00 to my account to make it current and have a balance of $84.91. However, when I got the deposit receipt I noticed that it stated a -$20.09 balance. I was confused about what was going on. As soon as I got home I checked my account online and noticed that I had been charged $140.00 of NSF fees for the transactions that I had made on Feb. 12, 2009 before the actual transaction of $200 that had made my account negative.

I called TCF Bank and spoke to a man named Sebastian who told me that the reason why I had been charged the NSF fees for the other transactions even though I did have money in the account at the time was because TCF Bank posts the transactions from greatest to smallest, even though they weren't made in that order. He said the reason why the bank did this was because they want to pay off the more 'SIGNIFICANT' amounts first like car payments, mortgage payments, etc., so it would be less inconvenient for the customer.

But to me, this method IS inconvenient and they are not being fair or ethical. They charge the customer various NSF fees by manipulating the order the transactions post. I know Bank of America got in trouble for the same thing and TCF bank should suffer the same consequences as BOA.

I understand i was in that same situation tcf bank charge me a total of $175 in fees and that is not right, tcf is taking advantage of us the tax payers when we just bail them out. That is okay they will fail again because the banks are so foolish. the president should have let them fail.

its perfectly legal, it was probably in a disclosure you received (but never read) when you opened the account. Plus if you only write checks when you have money in your account you should have nothing to worry about. blame yourself for spending money you didnt have instead of blaming the bank.

TCF Bank fraud

I have had TCF National Bank for several years now including all of my business accounts. I have had some minor issues here and there and they have been generally good at resolving them. This is NOT the case when there is fraudulent activity on your account. Several days ago I noticed unauthorized charges on my TCF.com online statement. I immediately called in and the rep told me that I would need to fax in a fraud report. We then went into the details of my account and by that time 8 legitimate purchases I had made were now overdraft fees. The rep informed me that they would be credited back to me after the investigation was complete. He told me to wait 10 (ten) business days.

Because the fraudulent activity cleaned out my account I have now reached over -$390 in overdraft fees. I asked to see if there was a way to expedite this and he said no. I faxed in the paperwork and called the fraud dept 2 days later (they claim all requests are processed within 48 hours so they will show in the system). The rep I spoke with was kind of rude and told me that I have not shown up in the system in two days. Additionally she told me that it usually takes 3-5 days to show up and it can be 10 days after that before I receive a response!

I, like every other person on earth have bills. I informed them that I need my money to pay my bills and their answer is "sorry, nothing we can do". "Wait 10 days". I have constantly asked to speak with supervisors and the same result. Sorry. Can't do anything. I tried to email them to let them know that I can't even get anyone helpful and they don't respond to email! I looked for a corporate number with no suck luck.

Currently TCF National Bank believes it's OK to charge customers overdraft fees because of fraudulent transactions. TCF also believes that terrible customer communication is OK. It is also their policy to wait up to THREE WEEKS before giving you your money back. I can't even wait until this is resolved... im sure they will jack up the overdraft fees too.

I have contacted them several times and if I receive a legitimate resolution this will disappear. Until then, the world needs to know what kind of crap they are pulling.

TCF Bank holding money hostage

On Saturday 3/21/09 I called Northwest Airlines to book a flight. I was quoted a price by the NWS agent which was agreeable so I authorized the purchase using my TCF Visa check card. I was told I had until midnight on 4/22/09 to cancel should I choose.

On Sunday 3/22/09 I look at my TCF account online and there is the flight purchase with $20 direct booking agent fee but there is also an additional $75 charge added by Northwest that was not discussed during the reservation conversation. I called NWA to find out what the deal was and they explained that it was a miles redemption fee because a flight less than 21 days in advance. I explained that I was not informed of this on the phone or I would have never wasted my miles on a domestic flight with this high of a charge added. They apologized and said the agent should have mentioned it and canceled the reservation for me, saying that a credit has been issued back to the card.

Monday comes then Tuesday and still no pending credit showing on my TCF account. Tuesday afternoon I call TCF to inquire about it and they said there is no credit showing in their system and the only thing they can do is wait for the merchant to send them the credit. They suggested I call NWA back.

I call NWA back and they assure me a credit was issued back on the card on Sunday 3/22/09. They said that if it's not showing on my account yet, that I would need to talk to my bank because it's in their hands.

I call TCF back right away and tell them what NWA said. The TCF customer service agent begins her scripted answer, saying, "It can take up to 10 days for a credit to post back to your account and until the merchant issues that credit, there is nothing we can do." I explain that the merchant did issue the credit electronically so there should be something showing in someone's system somewhere. If not in TCF's system, then surely it must be showing in the system of the contracted credit card company that provides their customers their TCF Visa check card. As if I had never spoken, they repeat the same story they gave me the first time, that it can take up to 10 days. I finally got frustrated and decided to give it another day to see if something would show pending on Wednesday.

Wednesday 3/25/09 - Still no pending credit showing. I call TCF again and ask if there is anything pending, they say no. I went through the story again with the agent and this tells me that it normally takes up to 5 days for a credit to be issued. I asked if there was some way to contact their contracted credit card company (which is no great secret to most educated people although TCF likes to pretend it's their card) to see if they're showing a credit being issued by NWA ? She says "No, there was no way to do that." I began to argue with her because I know perfectly well that someone there at TCF has an 800 number for the contracted credit card company to look in their system for a transaction being processed that involves my card number and Northwest Airlines. She insists this is not possible saying there was no number to call and that I will just have to wait the 5 days to see if it shows up. If it doesn't, she says I will have to call NWA back, apparently starting this whole process over again. I said this is not acceptable and the call was escalated to someone supposedly above her.

This next woman begins the conversation by telling me it can take 30 days for a credit to post to an account and it all depends on the merchant. Now it's gone from 5 days to 30?! I tell her, "All I'm asking for, is for her or someone at TCF to call the credit card company and find out if it's in process so I can know who exactly I need to put pressure on to be accountable for this mistake." She said then starts to argue that it's only been 24 hours since the credit was issued and says "It's too soon, no one will have a record of it. " What?! I ask, "How is that possible if NWA issued this credit electronically, then it's in someone's system somewhere. It's not as if they're waiting on paper mail!" She continues to say, "That's not the way it works, sir." and goes through her story again, insisting that it depends on the merchant. She then starts throwing out longer amounts of time at me, mentioning "months" for this to possibly be resolved and that's when I tuned out.

I tell her, "So basically, I'm screwed until somehow somewhere the money miraculously appears back in my account". And she said, "Yes, that's basically it." I then explained that I thought she was lying to me about not being able to verify this credit and that I would take it up with someone in person at TCF and hung up the phone.

How is this okay that TCF can refuse to provide a logical explanation or at least offer some course of action other than, "You'll just have to wait and see?" If someone walked up to me on the street and took $75 out of my pocket, I could have that person arrested. Why is TCF any different?

TCF Bank customer service/antiquated system

Opened account on 2/27/09 Received checks 4 business days later. 10 business days later I recieved debit card. Could not activate debit card due to PIN being different from what I originally entered when I opened account. I went to branch on 3/17/09 to correct problem. Employees stumbled around for a few minutes and then finally handed the card back to me and said another PIN would be mailed to me within 2 to 3 business days. Today is 3/24/09 and still waiting for PIN. I also discovered that the PIN was actually not requested from the branch until 3-19-09, two days after I requested the PIN myself. I am almost one month out from opening account and still unable to use it. They told me I could deposit money but that I would just have to get cash from a teller until the debit card situation is corrected. I'm a little concerned about doing that given their antiquated business practices. I spoke to a customer service rep on 3/24/09 on the 1-800 line to try to resolve the issue but she was no help (Sharonda Ex 4509) I asked to speak to a supervisor. She would not talk to me. I did get her name, Izzy Ex: 4063. This banks business practices are from 1985. They should really explore advances in handling customer service issues in a more timely fashion.

Any other bank would be able to fix the PIN issue at a branch. TCF branch employees are like Keystone cops bumping into each other and stumbling answers because they have not been trained properly. The worst part it is their "supervisors" who act that way. I cant imagine how a regular associate behaves. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK!

Same thing has happened to me ..I live in Phoenix and bank at the one in Chandler..They have ordered me 7 pin numbers and 3 debit cards..it has been 2 1/2 months since i opened the account...they blame it on the head office instead of their own stupidity...its like when you goto a mom and pop shop and there is a bunch of 15 year olds running the store...they have no idea what to do in situations..they have little to no training..I bet if you just call the branch and say you are from corp. and need to verify some info you could prob get some private bank info from one of the idiots that answer the phone...in fact i was tempted to call and pretend to be from corpo and tell them to give me 4 50.00 gift cards cause of all the problems i had...it might just work...they hire anyone that turns an application in and they don't train them on how to act around customers...they talk all ghetto when they are talking about your money like they are running a dice game or somthing..its sad...

TCF Bank manipulates posting of trnasactions resulting in outrageous overdraft fees

PoudTCFer:

The fact that the bank posts transactions from greates to smallest caused me to be charged 4 NSF fees instead of 1. the AUTOMATIC ACH was pending after the transactions that I had done during the day, therefore it should had posted in the same order.

I work there, and from what we are taught TCF apys the largest to smallest to avoid the return of large amounts which are usually the most important (I.E. mortgages, car payments, etc) !

TCF has done this to me.. 3 times over the last 6 weeks. I have never had a problem overdafting and i used to band out of state.. which caused longer posting times. Nope NOW its just a scam.. looking at when things are posted is comical that they can even get away with the ### they are pulling. Right now i have 6 NSF fees. ANd that is just the start... Leave this bank while you still can. They are a total scam! So is the "ProudTCmotherFer"

Transactions normally take 1 to 3 days to post onto an account depending on the merchant. According to your timeline...the NSF's are legit. Do not blame a financial institution for your incapability to balance your check book. It is not TCF's fault that you did not deduct an AUTOMATIC ACH from your register.

TCF Bank fraudulent charges

OK, so here goes. A few years ago I deposited a paycheck into my TCF bank account. No problem so far. THEN, I go to check my balance online and said that $275 was deducted from my account. I went into my local branch and asked why the hell they would do that. The woman looked it up and told me it was from an overdrawn account. I did have an overdrawn account, which was OK because I paid the $80 something dollars for that overdrawn account.

I also had the paperwork proving that it was only $80 and it was paid in full. I got a little pissed and called customer service and they asked me my account number, and SSN. She told me that the SSN I gave her did not match the account that was overdrawn on the $275. I asked her for the name on the account that opened it. Now my name is Jason with the last name that starts with a 'J'. The name on the account was 'J Jxxxxxx'.

I asked her if it was my twin brother Josh's account. She said she couldn't say. I grabbed my dad's tax records and found Josh's SSN, and gave it to the woman. She said that was the SSN that was associated with the $275 overdraft fee. I asked her why this was linked to me. Considering my twin and I have the same initials, same birthday, they linked that $275 to me, and since it was taken from my account, that was ok to TCF.

The woman ACTUALLY told me that there was nothing that I could do about it! So the next day I closed down my account and went to a bank that I know for a fact that my twin has never used. Do yourself a favor, don't bank with TCF. I just want my $275 back...

TCF Bank nsf fees/notification

I don't use this account often. I found that the 5 day hold on checks and the teller service to be very slow. So, I only pay a couple of small bills with the account. When I stopped a monthly draw with the account, there was some money left. I wrote a check over a month ago, deposited enough money to cover the check and still had a balance. The party held the check for almost a month, I was unaware of that. But, none the less, last week I used my ATM card to make some small purchases. My account balance was overdrawn by less than $10. They immediately hit me with a $35 overdraft fee. I bought a hamburger yesterday at Mc Donalds, with the overdraft fee, my balance was way over, it cost me another $35 in overdraft fees. I went online to check my balance today, less than a week after the initial NSF, and was shocked. I tried to call the branch, the phone numbers are not listed on the website. After going through numerous sources, I found the number and called. It was a fax number. I went online and called an 800 number and spoke with a customer service rep. She said they do not notify by email or any other way that you are overdrawn. So, being on Social Security as my income, I have to call my son, an active duty Marine, to ask for the extra $35 to cover my overdraft fees. I cannot close the account until I get the money from him. I am embarassed and angry. If they would have emailed me to let me know, and for less than $45 I could have avoided this and I wouldn't have used the card, now I have $70 (plus $7.45 and the cost of a hamburger) to come up with.
I would steer clear of this bank. The branch service was bad, and the fact that they don't let you know there is a problem with your account, so you could make it right.

I am an active duty Marine and because of this I have limited access to my checking account balances. I have been taught to balance all of my checking accounts from an early age as I am responsible for my accounts, not my bank or credit union. If I can do this from abroad, I would expect you could, too. Maybe your son could help you balance you check book each month.

When we first opened our account here, we deposited money from our Harris account. Once the funds cleared, I paid my bills online. Next thing I knew they took the cleared funds and put them back on hold causing all of the bills to bounce. When we asked why, they said Harris had told them the check would not be honored. We asked Harris, they said no such report existed and they never said any such thing. When we pushed the issue and demanded to see the report, the TCF Branch Manager had us tossed out of the bank!
Then the OD fees started, re-ordering transactions to cause you to bounce two and three times instead of once. Now they are actually re-ordering transactions from over the weekend to cause even more over0drafts. I check my balance on Monday and the transactions from the weekend are listed. I add money (cash) so I can pay a bill online later. The next day I find they re-ordered all of the transactions so that the cash deposit suddenly shows up after all of the other transactions, which are also suddenly re-ordered not by the date but all at once by amount.
Which is why we nicked-named TCF home of of the TCF Two-Step.

PS Repeated calls to managers and the office of the president (where advanced complaints are supposed to be handled) are never returned.

The only way (according to their website) to avoid this is spend $35.00/yr on overdraft protection (if approved), or write to some P.O. Box to have them not authorize payments when your balance is $0. (They way 'real' banks to it by default!).

Stay clear of them if possible. I only had an account there because they don't charge to count your loose change; unlike the 'CoinStar' systems that take 7 to 12%.

TCF Bank atm rip off

On October 9 (2008) our TCF bank card was used to withdraw funds from an ATM machine at the Courtyard by Marriot hotellocated at 2502 Crossroads Drive in Madison Wisconsin. The withdrawal was for $100. No money was dispensed but a receipt was given that indicated an error D1706 and that $0.00 was dispensed. A second withdrawal was attempted for $80 and was successful immediately after the first.

The problem was noticed days later indicating a $102.00 withdrawal from the account. The problem was shown to people at a TCF Bank branch and money was credited back to the account late in October.

The money ($102.00) was withdrawn again on December 4.

On December 5 we received a letter that they had investigated and that 'Our records indicate that the correct funds were dispensed at the time of the withdrawal(s).' They sent a copy of a print out called a V004 Transaction Exception System Visa Representment Request (created on 12/03) that had a highlighted section saying 'acqr cert atm in bal'

Discussions with the Regulation E specialist continued. I expressed my concern that our problem was with money not being dispensed, and not with how TCF transfers funds. Video footage from the machine was requested but were told that there was none. The receipt indicating the $0.00 dispensed was discounted as evidence because there was no date on the receipt and 'we could have gotten that receipt any time.'

Clearly TCF bank is working with some ATMs that omit information on receipts that would make them valuable in proving errors occurred. TCF's investigation seems to have consisted of them confirming that they withdrew $102.00 from account. Note that the 'service' fee still applies even though no service was received. It was not until December that any effort was made to verify MY side of the story by looking into camera footage or any other information.

I requested copies of 'all documents we relied upon in arriving at this conclusion' as I have the 'right' to according to the December 5 letter. I also requested a journal of our file indicating the people who we spoke with and to from TCF regarding this. I was told this may be unavailable and have not received it. I asked why we would make two transactions back to back within minutes and was told that 'people do this all the time' although we never have prior to this.

I have received a copy of the error receipt that had been faxed from a local branch, the Transaction Exception System print out, some kind xerox of a page print out showing our account number and the withdrawal amounts with everything else on the page blacked out with a marker with no explanation of what it was.

The Regulation E Specialist (Debbie who could not give me her last name) says the matter is closed. Despite the fact that TCF Bank has a copy of the receipt showing $0.00 dispensed. A receipt of a transaction not occurring properly is not sufficient evidence to show an error on the part of the TCF Bank or ATM.

Apparently it is my fault that the ATM network that TCF Bank uses does not require ATMs to include information on error receipts such as dates or times. This conveniently proves useful in any kind of investigation of error. I have not been able to find out what ERROR = D1706 means. I have not received any information on the owner of the ATM machine to date, or its make and or model. This prevents me from finding reports of problems with these machines, seeing if they do or do not have cameras and or video records of any kind, or of contacting the owner of the ATM and filing an additional complaint.

How sad is it, when the best bank I had EVER delt with, was in fact in CANADA. Royal Bank of Canada or (RBC) had everything posted IMMEDIANTLY when it hit my account. Checks, debits, bills, mortgage payments. If I touched it, it would out, posted and processed the second I did it. There was no delays, no waiting periods, no next business day b.s. And as for direct deposits - if it was sent - IT WAS THERE...

When I moved back home to the states, I figured open an account... I seen the "$50 free checking" signs posted and when I signed up for the account, I SPECIFICALLY asked questions pertaining to the information I posted in the above paragraph. They kept saying "yes yes yes". When in reality it was "no no no." I dropped them like a bad habit when "gas station" fund holds started.. but before that I had direct deposit. On friday at 12am it was in the account. I did my normal friday and saturday shopping and come to find out that Monday would roll around and I was hit with 300+ NSF. I had NEVER had that happen to me in my life and it won't happen again. I tried to close the account after everything was paid and they said "Oh we're still waiting on one gas station charge to come in" HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! When I was younger, I worked for a gas station. They processed and posted those accounts EVERY MORNING! SO IT'S NOT THEM WAITING AROUND ON THEIR [censor] TO DO IT. TRUST ME, THEY WANT THEIR MONEY JUST AS MUCH. But TCF makes their money if the account is messed up a bit and will continue to attempt to make you feel like its YOUR fault. I don't think so... So since they wouldn't close the account.. and stole over 300 from me easily in two weeks - I let it sit... OH then they called saying "How come you haven't used your account - I noticed that its in NSF for $16" Well... I could have went and paid the petty $16 but now its about proving a point. I don't need extra "credit" and I don't care so they can shove it up their [censor]..

TCF Bank worst customer service in banking industry

I absolutely dread calling the customer service line for TCF Bank. 9 out of 10 times, the reps are rude & do not fully explain the answers to your questions. Their tone is always condescending, and whenever you call they act as if they're doing you a favor by answering the phone. I have a business account there and I truly regret opening an account there. Please teach your call center staff to not use slang when speaking with your customers.

TCF Bank mortgage

I have been doing business with TCF bank for the past 9 years. Yet when I called in for a deferment on a mortgage payment TCF'S true colors came through. I had never been late with a payment.
I called and then was told to call back when I was one day late. So I did and then was told I needed to be 30 days overdue. I asked for the supervisor Vicky or Wendy and was told I was not even qualified since I was unemployed. Why did she think I was calling? If I was employed I wouldn't need the deferment. With the kind of stories they tell you one call to the next I am sure to be in foreclosure soon, thanks TCF, NOT.

We went to a mortgage with escrow included 3 years ago. We did the loan in December, so they took care of paying the escrow to the township. The next 2 years, we have yet to get our escrow check in December to pay the taxes in that year. Both years, they claimed they mailed the check to us. I can see this happening once and it got lost, but twice? Little hard to swallow. When we contacted them, we got different answers from the branch people in our state and also from the corporate in MN. No one had the same answers for 2 years in a row. What was really funny was that both of these last 2 years the check gets to our town treasurer right after the first of the year, so it does not get cashed until the next year. I am not sure if this is TCF's business practice to have the funds come out in a different quarter? Now we went to branch bank and paid our mortgage on the 9th of July, apparently the branch never must have sent the check to the corporate in MN, so they are saying we did not pay. Thank god my husband has the receipt, so corporate says to stop payment on old check and reissue a new and they will pay for our stop payment. This was talking to a Chris in customer service in MN. Low and behold - 5 days after talking to him and doing the stop payment and reissuing, they cash our old check (which showed up 18 days after it was given to their branch. We mailed the stop payment, the receipt showing when paid and the new check and now 7 days later, they cant find that information. Everyone you talk to has no clue what they are doing and banks like this are allowed to opperate. Then the best part is we have a 2nd mortgage and I only just found this out, that our escrow was done in our second mortgage, which we never signed documents for this it was to be in our 1st mortgage and we have the signed paperwork, and they raised us to 10.5% interest on the second of which almost $270/month is our escrow. So we are paying 10.5% interest on money that is ours? Not sure how legal that is. But they claim that is not how it is. We have heard so many stories from this bank, they need to be shut down.

TCF Bank rip off

I recently decided to change banks. I went from a credit union to TFC bank. I wrote a check transferring all of my funds from my credit union to TFC bank. I was told by the TFC bank manager that it would be quicker if I moved the money into a checking account vs a savings account. He stated that in a checking account it would only take 5 to 7 days to get access to the money, so I did...15 days later I went to make a withdrawal and was quickly advised by the teller that I could not access my account since the check had not yet cleared. I had written a check for $24, 599.00. I could not believe the check had not yet cleared so I went to the ATM to look at my old account and found that it had a 0 balance. I then contacted the credit union and was advised that the check had in fact cleared on 8/22/08 which at the time was 5 days before! I then accessed my new account with TFC and found that I had a current balance of $24, 599.00 so I withdrew $300.00. I then told the teller that I was able to get money from my TCF account via the ATM...She then advised me that I would most likely be charged over charge because my account had been placed on hold until 9/03/08! I went ballistic! How dare they place my account on hold when the check had already cleared the bank! I then contacted the corporate office and found they had placed the account on hold the very same day the check cleared the bank! I insisted on talking to the manager in charge of the corporate office and was advised that the manager would not speak with me! I spoke to the manager in charge of the branch at the Jewel Osco store on Eola Rd and he advised me he would ensure access the very next day! I went back the very next day which was a Sunday and he was not there! I advised the teller that I was in the process of talking to an attorney about suing them for this behavior! TCF was holding my money hostage! The manager was called and he did come in and was finally able to give me access to my money so I quickly closed the account! I am now a customer at the Harris bank at which I was advised that TCF has a habit of doing this to it's customers! A couple of days after I closed my TCF bank account I get a letter telling me that my account was placed on hold because of the amount of the check...the fact is they placed it on hold the very day the check cleared the bank! Then they had the nerve to tell me that the acronym (TCF) means The Customer First! I think not! Their acronym should be The Bank First!

I agree 100% with TCF has been nothing but a nightmare since day one! They move stuff around in our bank account to fit THEIR needs. ALSO they bounced my account when I had more than enough money. They also like to freeze the account when deposits go in.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. Everyone I have talked to at TCF (phone and at a branch) tells me a slightly different story and will not tell my why my money is being held hostage. The checks have cleared and the money is there, but they want to hold it until I have had my account open for 30 days! It's my money, why does that matter? It seems that they just want to make money off my money. I need to pay bills with my money!

Dear Sirs of TCF Banks

As of this day 09/10/2009 you are now officially notified that I/we will no longer be doing business with your Bank and to close all accounts. This is all do to the resent issues and or circumstances that have compiled in the last two years of my 20 Plus years with you.

Cancellation of Credit/Debit card with out my authorization.
Manipulation of posted checks.
No reimbursement for new checks that were never received.
Had to pay $3.00 ATM fee that I canceled out of at the machine.
Wrong deposits into my account.
Fines and fees for depositing a bad TCF check and no reimbursement when it was found to be a teller error at another TCF branch.
Internet user fees for Credit/Debit card usage.
Poor online account/statements” NO INTERACTION”
Many business will not except TCF checks

Below are explanations of above bullet points

1.Some time back mid 2007 I had opened a new account in just my name because I was separating from my ex wife. Then a month or two went by and your bank had canceled my Credit/Debit card with out my authorization. I believe that when the ex closed our joint account there was a bank mix up. “NOT MY FAULT” Thanks for all the embarrassment and inconvenience!

2.Some time back mid winter of 2007 I had three small Credit/Debit card transactions that were posted a day before a gasoline charge that was pending. I seen in my account that I needed to put more cash in to cover it so I did. This was just minutes after the gas purchase. So what did you do? Your bank have removed the three small Credit/Debit card transactions that were posted, then payed the gasoline charge that was pending, then fine me 3 times just before you posted the cold hard cash ( the green stuff) that I gave you.”THATS NOT RIGHT OR FARE” 20 +years don't mean nothing to you does it?

3.Back in March of year “2009” I had sent off the form for new checks but never received them. So to play it safe I had to close that account and open a new one.”INCONVENIENCED AGAIN” This again had its own fines and fees that I had to fight to get removed. And never did get reimbursement for new checks that were never received.

4.In June 2009 I stopped some where to eat, went to get $20.00 from an ATM machine, when I seen that they wanted $3.00 for the transaction I canceled out.”OPT OUT” went with out. Then weeks later seen the $3.00 was removed from my account. Wow 3 bucks to say no to $20. Never seen that coming.

5.Just this August 6 2009 I was surprised to see that a check that I had made out to my Ex Wife was deposited into my account. Is she giving it back to me? Banks don't make mistakes or do they? Why is there no fines or fees for you?

6.Around Christmas of 2008 My brother gave me a check from his TCF account just a few days later your Bank had remove the amount that was given to me plus tagged on a $35.00 fee dew to insufficient funds. In the following days my Brother had found that a teller had put his money into his savings account and not his checking as his receipt had shown. Why was I not reimbursed? ”INCONVENIENCED AGAIN and a EMBARRASSMENT “and at Christmas time Way to go “SCROOGE”

7. On 08/19/2009 as I was trying to pay my wireless phone bill on line as I all ways have done. I was having difficulty doing so because a small window kept popping up saying something about TCF/VISA Security & Protection. I was not aloud to pay this bill until I signed into this program. I seen nothing of any kind of a fee for this service as I was signing up. The next day what do you know there was the fee waiting for me in my account.

8. Your online banking is a joke not only is there no customer interaction but it easy for you to Manipulate. Its time to trash the excel looking program! The new bank I just started in there online check works more like a check register when I write out a check I can all so type it into my account that shows up pending and when the check is clear they post it. Yours is set up so that any one that lives from pay check too pay check is sure to fail. I see this as discrimination
“PREYING ON THE POOR” unfair and immoral.

9.I have been seen more and more business with signs in them saying sorry we don't except TCF checks, not all checks, just the TCF ones. I was told that's why you offer the check card. Now I ask you just how long will it be till business start not excepting them?

In closing of this letter I do hope you can see and understand as to why I can no longer put my trust into your Bank. I have been told by your staff that all the banks are doing the same. Again you lie to me in the time I spent looking for a new bank I have not yet found one that is as corrupt with Manipulations, Fees, Fines, and teller incompetence. Maybe some day you will go back to the days when the customer is number one concern, and treat every one as an equal before its to late. For I see it time for your bank to set down and restructure your banking methodology, reeducate and/or retrain staff to fit the needs of the general public.

I think you have everybody beat-that's unbelievable but not a bit surprising. I have direct deposit and TCF bank denied my application for overdraft protection because of my credit score. This week they used 3 unauthorized pending debits to bounce $175 worth of checks (that would have otherwise been covered) and then bounced the same pending debits when they posted the next day for another jackpot of $105. They refused to stop payment on the pending debits and made me fill out a bunch of papers and said it would take 10 days. They told me they would cancel my card and cut it up (add 10 days for another card). Today I find out that they did not cancel my card that day, my insurance payment bounced and was returned (I had told them it would be declined), so that caused me a charge from them as well as another $35 from TCF. This weeks total is $350 in nsf charges. (over $700 Mar/Apr) I am writing to my Attorney General, Federal Trade Commission and TCF Corporate. I am posting this on all TCF complaints - you should copy and paste your post also if you have time. This is the reason...

Beware of the "make money from home" drones. I always wondered what that was all about. You should be getting around to 10 comments scolding you and some out and out insulting you. Example: Read your contract, blah, blah. // If you don't know how to manage a checking account you shouldn't have one. // Some will give you their sage explanation of how the system works and how you can avoid this problem like you're an idiot.

I finally figured it out when I posted a "ripoff" report on Discover garnishing my wages at 25% ...you can read it and see what I mean..anyway - every post was pro-Discover. People calling me a deadbeat, etc. I thought it was strange that so many people were sitting around defending Discover card in one night. It hit me as I was thinking "is somebody paying these people or what?" Ya, probably per post. So now, when I have a little extra chill time, which is not real often because I have a real job, I dedicate it to supporting honest hard working people getting ripped off and trying to prevent others from the same misfortune.

TCF Bank it is a big fraud

TCF bank will take your money and especially from the poor people. This bank needs to be investigated with their illegal practice. I'm sick of their customer service and they don't believe the customer is never right. I feel sorry for consumer this bank. They state their cash deposit after 2pm count the next business day, but if they had a pending transaction they will post it first than your cash transaction. This is one bank that is getting away with illegal practices and needs to be stop. Hopefully the government will look into their practices and closed them down.

This is the worst bank. They bought out my local bank. Now waiting for my second stimulus check it got sent back to the irs because the routing number doesn’t match. So I have to wait until I file taxes and claim the stimulus money so I’m told by the irs. But I won’t get any refund money until early March because I have dependents and qualify for earned income credit. So as I sit here struggling barely holding on this bank screws me by two months on stimulus.

I also agree they did the same thing to me, and had so many Over Draft's on me, that my bank account closed, and to make matters worse they are giving me a bad reference to when I want to get a new account with another bank, they are on a site where other banks can see that I owe them money, thanks to their Over Draft's and having closed my account. And they dont even have Theft Protection as a plan at their TCF BANK. brendo3030@yahoo.com

When I opened my acct I told them I only needed it to make payments, 2mths later I was being charged $19 monthly if I don't have 500 in my acct at all times. Then I made a deposit of 125 made 6 transactions 80 being my last why did they charge the 80 first and my small trans last that way they can charge me 35 nsf fees 4 the other 4 transactions. I admit I went over when I made the $80 trans but instead of charging me a nsf fee for the 80 they charge me 4 nsf fees for my small trans fees then charge me a nsf fee for the 80 meaning I was charged a fee for every transaction I made when all alone I had the money in the bank.I will never bank with them again. I wanna take they [censor] 2 court for $125

TCF Bank is a blood sucking fraudulent institution like most of the banks under the jurisdiction of the federal reserve money laundering system. These bank get all this stimulus money and support from big corporations and sports teams but continue to suck the people most affected by the recession dry.

TCF Bank sucked me into opening a $50 free checking account and 6 months later they are charging a $9.95 fee without sending out any notice except for a small note on their statement which I never read because I never had much money in the account. I sent TCF Bank a notarized letter as they requested to close my account because I could not afford these fees and the manager told me my account was pending closed and would not receive any more fees yet my account is still open and getting these fees that I do not owe. I opened a free checking account.
If I had a match I'd burn TCF Bank down to the ground along with the rest of the corrupt fraudulent institutions in the United States of America. A good thing I don't have match. Who does?

TCF does have a very very very bad online banking system. They tell you that you can't manage your money etc and that online banking is a "tool". Well imo tools are actually things that help..TCF online banking is not only a huge eyesore and worthless. It does not reflect the proper amount of money unless you have a lot in the bank. For me as a student I rarely have money and my account and constantly have to watch my spending. For some reason I have been able to do this for years without any complications for 5+ years. Move to Minneapolis and sign up for a tcf bank account and I have gotten screwed out of entire paychecks from overdraft fees from this shady system they have online. If you put money in your account the stupid system posts it as available instantly within 5 mins. This is just fantasy money it doesn't really exsist unless you did it before 3pm. It doesn't matter the online banking "tool" tells you that it is available as of whatever even dated and time stamped. If you spend this money that is available you will get hit with late charges from every cent you spent. After doing lots of research this system only hurts people like me watching the bottom line at all times. They took like 300$ from me this last time(2nd and last time) and I was so furious. I put on my customer service smile and went to a branch location and told my sob story to this guy half listening to me. He just to get me out of his office since it was after 5pm "he was actually looking at his watch while listening to me" He refunded my overdraft fees since I guess he was bored and said ok wtf I will help this loser. He thought he made my day and all was well so after I was assured the money was back in my account. Took off my happy go lucky smile politely asked him for a withdraw slip and pulled all my money out to 0.01 and told that guy to ### himself. It was priceless to see the look on this guys face and well worth the time out of my day. Since then over a three months ago I switched to a different bank and guess what no overdraft charges amazing! TCF is making a killing from this policy change and super ###ing over people that have limited spending in the first place. If there is a place to lodge complaints or sign a petition I would sign that ### in blood. Terrible customer service terrible online banking and just all around shady business practices. For all those that say TCF is perfect and you are a long standing customer I can already tell you that you are not worried about having to buy a 1 dollar soda without bouncing your acct. Loose your job or all your money you would get ###ed over just like everyone else.

TCF = SUCK ### RIP OFF!

They changed their pollicy on 4/1/09. Now pending trans actions are held against your account and make the funds "unavailable". I ran this scenerio through with the bank manager, and she agreed, but seemed like she didn't care one bit.

-You deposit $20 in your account. Go spend $4 at starbucks on a cup of coffee. Then go put $1 in gas in your car, BUT the terminal at the gas station authorizes you for $20 (as most all of them do). When that $4 hits your account, the $20 "authorization" is "pending" and therefore the money is "unavailable" BAM $35 FEE! So you deposite $20, spend $5 and somehow are magically hit with a $35 dollar fee.

Funny that at the exact same time they changed this, they changed another pollicy, the amount that they will continue to authorize, when you're already negative! Before when you "cleared" ballance didn't have enough to cover a transaction, it was declined. But now with the new pollicy that's done away with, OH, but you can "opt" out of this part by sending in some letter to a PO box that'll fall through the cracks and nothing ever will be done with it! Now really why would you opt both of these at the exact same time. Well it's because they sneak the first couple overdrafts in there (even though you had money) but if they were to alert you that you were already negative (by declining your card), than they couldn't hit you for the other $500 in charges.

I personally RARELY ever have a problem with OD charges, cause I keep a close eye on it. 3 snow ball's this month with a total of more than $1000 in overdraft charges. All three times there was money in my account, more than enough to cover, but there were magically "authorizations" that made the funds "unavailable"... Get the ### outa here...$1000 when I actually had money in there?

As a customer I'm entrusting my money to a bank, I turst them to hold it, take care of it, watch after it, and make interest with it. I shoul NOT have to pay them when I'm doing a servie to them by LETTING them hold on to it for me. I'm LOANING it to them to make a piss interest rate so they can intern loan it back to me at 7-8% on a house 10-20% on a car or 15-30% on a credit card? Now on top of that I have to pay them out the ### because of how their magical system calculates things? ### THAT!

Becasue I did have issues with transferin money before when their online was down, I tried to get OD protection. I was told "Oh yea, no problem, with you're credit score we're going to give you the max ($2K)" Two months later, I got OD charges again, come to find out they didn't set it up. Not only that but they didn't give a ###. They had to repull my credit (which hurts my highly guarded score), and then they come back and tell me that I've had too many OD's in the last month that they can't set it up? WTF? Really? I have OD's cause those ###s didn't do their job right the first time, and you're not going to give me a line of credit cause you're affraid that I"m going to use it? How does that work?

I think what they really meant to say was, "If we set this up for you than our big wigs with inflated sallaries can't screw your ### as hard and take your hard earned money!"

Yes they did inform us though. Somewhere around March, it was on the last page of your statement, written in really small writing, disguised with a combination of legal, and "we're helping you" lingo, with statements like our debt system will be in "real time" (like it wasn't already before) sounding like they're updating to some cool new system. It was in that part with usless stuff that NO ONE EVER READS! Oh, and somewhere in the "we'll screw you" section of your paperwork when you first opened the account, you agreed that they could change pollicies to steal your money at any time, and you're ok with that.

Funny thing is ###s (probably who work there) get on here to defend them saying statement's like "well you just don't know how to manage your money", funny thing is that's the exact same attitude that the employee's there have too! I know that the complaint rate, and account clouser rate, AND the amount of online bashing has increase ALOT since this pollicy has enacted. Why cause we all can't manage our money? No you ### stick! It's because this policy SUCKS, and was soley implamented and designed to SCREW US out of our money... Again, why would you enact BOTH these new policies at the same time? Neither of them help us, One is designed to take the money, and the other to inflate the amount they can take. They word it like "we're doing you a favor by allowing you to purchase and by covering your purchases", the thing is though, by the time they're authorizing things because the funds aren't available you're well stooped into OD charges, AND to add to the confusion, they don't show up till a DAY LATER, so even if you think you got things straight, YOU DON'T cause they're already working on ###ing you again!

### TCF! And ### every last employee with the "I don't give a ###, it must be your fault attituede!"

I agree with honduuuH! I have neen a TCF customer since 1990 and no problems at all! When I spoke to the bank manager she said they changed their policies in April. If you saw Dateline last night they talked about how the banks are changing the way they post your transactions... This year the banks have made 38BILLION dollars ... I was a six figure salary until I lost my job and had to go on unemployment... You can't tell me that I don't know how to manage my money no matter how much money I am making I have a brain in my head so I CAN balance a checkbook! I may not have the cushion I used to so yes I get close to the wire but when you don't know until 3 days later that you have been hit with $175.00 and your balance on-line does not reflect it and then your hit with another $175.00 and then your account is TOTALLY out of control and your unemployment check is GONE! I will tell you this I will never bank with TCF again! And when I am making a six figure salary again it will be with a different bank!

TCF Bank keeps initial deposit money then closes account

TCF Bank came to my husband's place of employment in Illinois so we decided to open both a checking and savings account online. A small deposit was made into our accounts at a local credit union. As soon as we verified these amounts our initial deposit transfers were initiated. Now three weeks later we had not heard from them. I have just called and found out that they closed the accounts and will not transfer the money back to us. Nor will they tell us why the accounts were closed over the phone. We have to make a special trip to a branch for that and maybe we will get our money back. This is uncalled for. If an account could not be opened why did they take our money? Why can't we find out the reason over the phone or via email when direct deposit and the use of the website are encouraged. How can an account be closed when there is money sitting there?

Consumer beware. They will take your money and used it so you can't.

same thing happened to my husband, they opened an account for him claiming that they will deposit 100 dollars into his account, then the next day closed it because of a debt with TCF from over 8 years ago. They should have let him know upon opening the account. The only reason that he even decided to open an account with this so called bank was because of the promotion. Everybody knows TCF bank is a joke, we already have Citi Bank and Wells Fargo, thank Goodnes.

TCF Bank harassment!

I had to close my account at this bank for their policies regarding NSF and "debit posting dates". They do free checking to lure in clientèle that may not have the ability to live more than paycheck to paycheck (means overdraft fees). Their customer service is atrocious (probably because they pay their tellers minimum wage)

And now, two years after walking out of that bank for the last time with a closed account paid in full, I can't open an account at another bank because they have me reported on CHEXsystems as owing them money!

I called their customer service and she confirmed that I owe them no money, but I have to go in and show them some letter they supposedly sent me to get it removed. Bull!

Why are they getting away with their practices. Is it legal what they are doing. Taking money from the hard working people who trust them with their money. I'm so sick of this bank practices. Who is the president of this bank. Seems that he/she hide in closed doors. They hired uneducated people so they just be followers on what they do. I know this bank will eventually get audit and they find out who is behind all this.

TCF Bank Deposit availability confussion!

A deposit made on december 21st 2007 of $250.00 check not credited until december 24th along with a cash deposit of $250.00 made the 24th of december. When checking the balance on his account on the 21st of december to purchase a christmas gift my son saw the funds were listed as posted. Tcf states that they may not credit your account the day of the deposit even though the receipt reflects this deposit and the balance shows the increase. It seems very convenient on their part that on the 24th all checks that came in over the weekend were listed as nsf even though I would think that since we deposited a check on the 21st at most, if they did not want to honor these checks they would be listed uncollected. But no, the checks were paid after being considered nsf along with a $102.00 fee for three checks that totaled $44.70. I called and was told that they could understand why we were confused and the deposit on the 21st should be listed as pending not posted. I decided to write a letter and a week later received a letter from tcf telling me that since we made no attempt to pay the nsf fees they would close the account and take further action. I sent a copy of the letter attached to that notice and stated that I had written a letter and did not get a response. Finally I got a response an update of my son's account (that reflects only what I already knew, they did not credit us any deposits until the 24th, considered this checks as nsf not uncollected) and they want $102.00 for the nsf fees, oh and an additional $35.00 for sending my account for collection even though I am trying to resolve this matter with them. I guess they wanted me to make a deposit to cover charges I still don't consider valid and even question the legality of them.

Upon initially reading this I was irritated at TCF. I sympathise with you, but they did follow their requirements for deposit. Posted does not entail credited. It is confusing, but it is the law. The FDIC does not require banks to make funds available for withdrawal prior to the next business day after the deposit is made. A cash deposit on the 21st would have been credited to your account immediately. My question is why not just cash the initial check on the 21st and make your purchases with cash?

Just realize that due to the holidays it takes awhile for things to process and as sad as your tragedies are they really dont care they just care that you had nsf's and all banks regardless of circumstance will do the same thing.

TCF Bank loss of money from tcf atm!

On 3 Jan 08, I requested a withdrawal of $ 400.00, from my TCF saving acct. what I got was $200.00 instead, Keeping my hands in view of the camera after counting my funds I turned to recheck the atm money slot and found a hispanic customer making a transaction, I could not see any money in the slot at that point. Keeping my hands in sight of the camera I entered the TCF bank which was located next door. I showed the money I had been given from the atm and explained the problem, I requested that a check on the atm's funds amount before my request and after my transaction, of course this wasn't be done, so I submitted a report. 16 business days later I found out that they had only checked the amount at the end of the business day, of course they found the amounts matched, complaint denied. I have talked to other TCF customers who had loss money too, one woman stated she had lost $200.00 too in the atm, and never got her money back. My money was a SSDI deposit, and this money is all I get per month. I have bills only partially paid and had to buy much less food this month. luckily I have a TCF checking Acct for my HUD relocation payments so I can make up the loss for now. I noticed the Bank Manager's near hostile responded, but checking the before and after cash amount of the atm and the 2 or more cameras covering the bank area would have revealed I never put anything into my pockets and came directly into the the bank area.

TCF has a system set up with their ATM network where it is impossible for anyone to present proof of ATM errors without a video tape of your entire transaction that you take yourself. Even in this case evidence may not be sufficient to have TCF admit any sort of fault. I even had a reciept from the ATM that said $0 was dispensed and that was not good enough. Their Regulation E specialists are a sham.

i found out that the atms that say tcf are not run by or controlled by tcf bank. it is ran by an outside company which doesnt care bout your lost or problems. it just offers tcf bank people free withdrawls and makes its money from people that dont have a tcf bank account and get charged the 2 bucks for taking out money. so really they cant check the atms for how much money you lost and should have called the number on the atm and they would have fixxed your problem.

TCF Bank tcf takes advantage of their customers!

I am furious with this bank. I set up a savings account so that I would have emergency funds. When I set up the account I specifically asked if the funds from my savings would be move to checking to protect against NSF fees and I was told that it would. I found out later that this was a lie. The product they offer for overdraft protection is a separate service and you have to apply for it like a loan. Anyway I had two tragedies happen within 2 weeks. Two of my family members were killed in terrible car accidents and i had to leave town. Upon my return my father in law was hospitalized for open heart surgery and my father was also hospitalized. I also come home to overdraft notices from TCF bank. They charged me $300 in NSF fees. I had over $600 in my savings which would have been more then sufficient to cover the charges on the account avoiding the NSF fees. I went to the downtown branch and asked to speak to a manager. She was extremely rude to me and sneered as I told for about my recent tragedies.I asked why the bank would not adopt the practice of many other banks as it pertained to savings accounts protecting checking accounts. She said that customers would be upset if the bank transfered funds from one account to other without the customers knowledge. I said you honestly think someone would be upset that you saved them from $300 in NSF fees? Yes, she replied. It is obvious that this bank uses NSF fees to take advantage of people who are having difficulties. Why else would they not allow an automatic transfer to cover a checking account. I was out of town with no internet access and no cell phone access. Needless to say that was the last thing on my mind when I was trying to bury a family member. This bank had no problem taking money from someone in a dyer situation.

They leave transactions and deposits pending in order to cause overdrafts, then charge $37.00 per transaction. I was charged over $500 for transactions that only occurred over a 2 day period. They prey on people and then refuse to help you while being rude and condescending. Stay away!

TCF received 80 million dollars last year in overdraft fee charges. I have had this account for many years and was happy with TCF until I got divorced. Since my income has shrunk considerably I teeter on the edge from month to month trying to make ends meet. Despite meager earnings, I own a home and car. I pay bills online according to monthly direct deposits. Every once and awhile, TCF deems it necessary to pay bills early, when I do not have funds available, which in turn causes a domino effect of overdraft charges. If you catch this happening, one previously was allowed to print the statement online, so you could prove what deposit and purchases where done at the exact time, which is no longer possible. If you watch your bank statement, they move and change the withdrawals around like a bag of bingo chips. This of course benefits them and YOU, will have no proof of their scam. I suppose I could take pictures of the online game of jumble, but would have to do so daily and then some!

Tellers claim, they can pay bills when they need to and not on the days requested. If you receive some credit back from them, you can not receive more credit within a 6 month time period. Hence. I was charged over 300$ in one weeks time. Bills were paid early, by them, purchases by me where not covered from 4 days previous to this event and they somehow THINK this is good customer service. Are you kidding me? This is illegal and unethical. TCF is in the process of being sued and I look forward to the outcome.

My advice...do NOT get an account with TCF and tell all of your friends as well. I have lost a lot of money from a bank I once trusted, who I thought was a bank of integrity. This is no longer the case.

Totally free checking? How about ripping off America with bogus fees. Recently we paid TCF over 400 dollars in over draft fees. When you call the tele-bank number it gives you, your balance including any "Pending" charges...however the telephone system and the in bank system are different. We had 14o dollars in the account one day...took out 100 at an ATM. We were over drawn 40 dollars the next day and put the money in to cover it right away. The day following that we called the telephone system to verify how much was in there and were told we were over drawn 175 dollars. So we marched right on up to the bank for an explanation. When they printed out what the system had they showed us that at the time we had taken the 100 dollars out we didnt actually have that money in there because of other charges coming through. When we told them we checked our account every day by calling the telebanking number they told us it was not truly acurate. So i asked the teller "You mean to tell me i would have to come in here to the bank every day to get my acutal account balance?" and she told me "Technically yes." When we covered the over draft of 40 dollars i was given a reciept that said our balance was a positive 4 dollars. She told me well the teller at that time should have told us that we had over draft fees that were going to post the next day...I argued with her for about 45 min. Finally i said ok how much do i need to cover the amount i am over. She told me well you have two more coming through today (which werent on the print out we had been arguing over for the last 45 min) So i paid a total of 260.00 in OVER DRAFT FEE's

This brings me to today where i have had 7 dollars in my account becuase i dont use this account now because i cant afford the fees. I called it tonight and was told I was over by 7 dollars. So i immediatly got on the phone thinking that someone had been using my account. I was told...get this...that TCF holds all the ATM fees from the month and posts them all at the end of the month...oh but we wont be charged an over draft fee for that...NOT to mention there is a charge posting for 3.00 which is the monthly online banking fee...which i have never been able to use beause when i signed up it gave me an error that i couldnt access my account. Between the terribly RUDE customer service and the HIDDEN FEES...this bank is taking advantage of people and it should be brought to someone's attention.

Standing in the lobby at the bank they have no problem spending money on fancy flat screen TV's with nasty employees that obviously hate their job because they know they are working for the worst company ever. TCF even had a college stadium here in Minnesota...which they were able to pay for by screwing millions out of FEES they collect from us.

Would i ever recomend this bank to anyone? Never in a million years. They give you 50 to open a checking account with them...only to steal it back from you and then some in the end!

I my self have banked with a home town bank for about 10 years and have never heard of the bull crap that has been pulled on us in the last few weeks.

Dont bother asking for a manager...because the Tellers them selves are all supervisors and you can get a business card to contact the manager when she is back in...BUT SHE DOESN"T HAVE A VOICE MAIL>>>WEIRD!

They are a horrible bank! They're online banking is deceiving! They literally change dates around on your online statements so they can charge you overdraft fees on purpose! They take out funds for transactions after you make a deposit to cover the funds and then wait to apply your deposit so you are hit with NSF fees. Customer service and local branch managers are very unhelpful and rude and have NO IDEA ABOUT THEIR SERVICES and you talk to 5 people and you get 5 different answers! In the last 2 months, I have had to pay them over $1200 in NSF fees that were not my fault and good luck trying to get them back because all the say is " Im sorry but there is nothing we can do!" and now I am behind 2 months in my mortgage payment and these idiots are such a joke! PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK! HORRIBLE!

Open till 7pm for "you convenience" so they can take your money from you! Also, there is no point because even if you make any deposit past 3pm it doesn't even get applied until the next business day so any more transactions you make that day will go into overdraft and they don't care!

TCF bank, prior to new laws being passed in regards to bank practices, changed the account agreements of members, including me. The new agreement forces customers to pay the account fee if the balance is less than 500.00 dollars, even though I have opened my account long ago and it was TOTALLY FREE CHECKING, without such fees. It is clear, that the bank is engaged in such practices to victimized those who got stuck with TCF bank and are unable to open the account elsewhere. The fee is 10 dollars per month just to have the account open. TCF BANK also is fraudulent in charging online baking fees even though they advertise with adds online and in store stating "Totally free banking".
This is deceptive and requires attorney's general investigation in the headquarters of the bank's state. I have tried to discuss this matter with many reps, who state that they are unable to make any changes to account - they are unable to reverse the account to being free and without fees as the original agreement stated. I do not have the agreement, who dates back almost 10 years, but I am pretty sure they did not include a clause stating that they could suddenly make changes to the account to start charging customers. They did not warn the customers in advance, thus, making it impossible to increase the account balance to the required 500.00 or more.

STAY AWAY! I was charged two 4.95 service fee for not keeping a minimum balance in my account when I was never told that this was the case. I was toldy by the Elmhurst branch located in JEWEL that there was no minimum balance only to be told by the location in McHenry that there is a certain balance. Leads me to beleive that the tellers of the bank are not being trained very well. To clear this up I deposited 800 dollars into the account only to find that I was charged another service fee. This bank is a fraud and really reminds me of the idea that if something is too good to be true in life it proably is. Take my recomendation and stay away!

This crooked bank wanted to charge me to close my account, so I kept a small balance in it for years. My balance was 47¢.

Five months ago they changed my account so I would need a minimum balance to avoid a fee of $9. Their customer service said this notice was in the corner of one of my statements, but I have yet to find it.
Yesterday I got a statement from them and a bill from a collections agency for the $64 they charged to my account in NSF fees. No separate notice was give for the NSF status of the account.

I HAD an 800 credit score, but this bank has ruined it.

So, yes I am following the little blurb that I did see on my last statement asking me to tell people about TCF Bank.

The way the that they process youre payments from youre checking acount is very suspicious they hold off payment for extra days till youre account is getting low and then they process multiple check debit card transactions from three plus days ago, when theres plenty of money in the acount they process it that day they do this to create overdraft fees i know of three other people that say the same happens to them and they put paypal payments as paid when i checked the money wasnt transfered to paypal but they did so ahead of them selfs to charge overdraft.

S Greg: Just some points to poner: One obligation of a debt collector is to confirm that there was indeed a late payment rather than a clerical error, especially if such is disputed in writing by the consumer. Another good thing for a debt collector to know is that it is a very serious violation of numerous Illinois state and federal laws, including the FDCPA, for a debt collector to make any kind of threat to a consumer that he or she will take an action when knowing (1) that such action is not allowable, and/or (2) that they in fact do not intent to take such action but is simply using such threats as a collection strategy. Violators of such regulations expose themselves to rather severe fines and other penalties. A third point to ponder is that in Illinois and most states, there are specific statutory guidelines that are required to be followed by a lending institution prior to foreclosure, including the number of months said residential mortgage is late and the amount of time the consumer has to bring any alleged deficiencies current. It might also interest you to know that if a consumer disputes a debt or allegation of late payment, by law the lender must cease all collection efforts until they have investigated and responded to the dispute. Best wishes!

I worked for TCF and I had run ins with Vicki also. She would threaten all people. This is a common practice with that bank. Frank and Don came from the TCF Finco era and originally worked out of Wheaton.

Oh and I forgot to add that if they said they would foreclose tomorrow, it means they could have foreclosed before they spoke with you. However it sounds like they preferred to work with you to establish some sort of repayment plan because contrary to popular belief banks don't like to foreclose.

Also if tcf had sold your mortgage, your house would have already been foreclosed on. However tcf holds all of its paper, so they have leeway to negotiate with customers rather than foreclosing.

Pay on time and you can avoid the collections dept altogether. And your quote is not an inappropriate threat. People who say they will pay later seldom do. So banks and collection agencies often request payment at the time of contact even if it is much less than the amount owed as a sign of good faith and are then more willing to work with the debtor.
