TCF Bank rude and billigerant

I work in Afghanistan. I told the bank, TCF, that I would be traveling in the Middle East, SE Asia etc. For the 5th time they have jacked my ATM card for o reason. I have been doing this work since 08 so they know I am in these different countries, I always call and remind them prior to any trips. I had the same problem again today. No access of my ATM card, didn't work. I called the branch in Rochester Hills MI and spoke to Amy, she became belligerent and actually yelled and then hung up. I wish they would not hire children. So I called the 800#, at least they did not yell at me and hang up. I would like to see this so-called employee terminated, maybe go back and get a real education on how to act appropriately in a place of business. Unfortunately I will be going back to Afghanistan so I can not close my acct until I return home. This behavior was the worse I have ever witnessed, even the Taliban isn't so rude. So Amy, good luck with your life, my issue with this bank are not resolved, and I can't even access my own money.

TCF Bank lost my deposit item/indiffernt mgr

TCF teller lost one of the items from one of my three deposits made at their drive-thru. I had observed 6 occassions in the last 5 months that tellers do not verify items in the deposits that are handed to them. They will give a receipt for the first dep slip in a stack of 2-3 separate deposits, without examing the stack, to see that they need to give receipts for the other deposit batches. So I began verifying all of my deposits, 2-4 times before handing my money to these incompetents. Finally, it happened. A $183 check went missing from one of my deposits & I was 100% positive that it was there, before I put it in the tube at drive-thru. After finding the missing $183 deducted from my checking account, spending 20 days and 3 calls to incompetent cust serv reps, and finally, demanding documentation (copy of front & back of my deposit slip) to determine if I made an error in addition, whether the $183 was one or multiple checks, so that I could trace it back to my check stubs to give the check issuer accurate info for replacement of the checks, I had to deal with an indifferent branch mgr (Jay Calhoun) who blew me off, didn't even get my name or bank acct info, didn't look at the documentation that I had gathered, nor the teller #, all which I had proof of. He kept insisting that I wanted TCF to give me my $183 back. Being a previous bank examiner & audit mgr, myself, I knew that would not happen. I was there to give him a "heads-up" on teller sloppiness, maybe check that teller's personal acct for a deposit of $183, maybe check their misc and/or suspension accts for a $183 unmatched item, in limbo. No. He was not interested in checking anything. Says they verify items at the end of the day (AFTER the fact). He didn't make eye-contact, was disrespectful of me (a customer old enough to be his mother or grandmother, a doctor, now & previous bank executive), told me that he didn't care, told me that I wasted my time gathering the documentation of the mishandled transaction & that I should have just gone to the check issuer to get that lost check reissued. But, the fact is that I could not get the check reissued without spending all that time & effort getting documentation for the check issuer. Then, on top of all that, I have lost the use of my $183 for 20 days, plus an additional 30-60 days that it takes an insurance company to go thru all their red tape, to get me another check for $183. and, Jay Calhoun made it quite clear that he did not care. I told him that I would take it to the top. And, I will. All the way to the CEO of TCF, Commerce dept and will warn all my patients, adult students that I teach at a college, my professional colleagues, my MN State Board colleagues, Facebook contacts, anyone within earshot, of my experience. I am prominent & well-known in the community and my opinion is respected. All Jay Calhoun had to do was just pretend to care and acknowledge my inconvenience and apologize, then all would have been ok. So simple. But, that is crappy customer service for you. No wonder the peons are poorly trained. Look at mgmt. It is ON, now ! And, Jay Calhoun does not even know my name. But, he will find out when I file the formal complaint forms to mgmt. I won't stop until I get an apology from someone.

TCF Bank unwarranted fees

I recently had my checkbooks stolen (3 banks), thus closed and opened accounts at all three banks including TCF. The other 2 banks worked with me as payments processed from ACH and checks on my old account, reaching out to me to confirm they were legitimate until I could clear things with on my end. In short, THE OTHER BANKS I DEALT WITH HAD OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE! Now for TCF... They told me I would be charged a fee if I had transactions hit against my old account, so I left some money in it for a know ACH transaction that would happen on a Monday (this being a Friday), knowing it was too late to change. That went fine, but the next week with another ACH transaction hit the old account TCF CHARGED ME A $37 SERVICE FEE AND DID NOT INFORM ME OF THE TRANSACTION OR THE FEE except by mail 3 days later. They then charged me ANOTHER FEE a few days later because my account had a negative balance at month end. That is TCF does I guess - they intentionally do NOT work with you so they can line their pockets with fee income. I three times went to a branch stating my case that as a loyal customer who is dealing with an unfortunate theft situation, that I would appreciate TCF reversing these fees. Each time the branch said no, saying it was my fault the account I thought was closed did not have sufficient funds. To make matters worse, last week I wrote a letter to their corporate customer service as a last ditch appeal for common sense. Their response... THEY TOOK MONEY OUT OF MY NEW ACCOUNT TO ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE BALANCE ON THE OLD ACCOUNT WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION! If that doesn't tell you all you need to know about TCF's priorities and corporate values, I don't know what does. I am closing my accounts with TCF today even though I just paid for new checks and this will cost me more money out of my pocket, but there is no point dealing with a bank with such low moral standards and selfish priorities. I encourage everyone else to consider the same and NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH TCF!

TCF Bank deactivated check card

I made a relatively large purchase on June 10th with no difficulty, and everything went well until june 25th when I attempted to use my card, only to have it declined. I called TCF and they informed me they deactivated my card based on "questionable fraud" on the 19th. (B.S., I used my card up through the 23rd with no problem) I asked if they tried to contact me and they said they "sent a letter" informing me they deactivated my card, and said they also sent a new check card on the 19th. I had received neither of these, so they offered to get me a new check card. It is now July 3rd, and I just received a letter informing me they closed down the new check card I never got. Time to find a new bank.

TCF Bank bank fees

We've had a checking account with TCF for over 15 years, where we kept a small ($500) amount of funds to be able to access them via check or ATM. The account was "free checking"--no interest but no fees. When I checked my account online this weekend, I was surprised to find that TCF had changed the terms of the account and started charging me $9.95 a month in fees 6 months ago, without my consent. I went to a TCF branch today. They refunded 2 months of fees, but couldn't go back farther unless I was willing to pay $5.00 for each monthly statement! We closed this account and are opening an account in a credit union. We lost $40 in exorbitant fees, and will never again be TCF customers. I guess they can use our $40 to entice a new customer with a $50 sign-up bonus--sounds like a loosing business model to me.

I was just charged $140 for insufficient funds in the bank. TCF bank sucks the money from your account. Be careful. Before I made any purchases, I made sure that I had enough money in the bank. They even agreed with me on that. TCF will keep a transaction pending for the longest, even though the funds are available. They sieze the right moment to get you with all of these fees by posting various transactions days later. Don't even think about depositing cash, if its not before the extremely early cutoff, forget about using your own money anytime soon. I'm going somewhere else for my banking needs.

I agree. Same thing happened to me. But, when they changed the accounts back to no minimum 15 transactions, I was told that it applied to all of my accts at TCF. After, finding a fee for not having 15 transactions in one of my three accounts with them, I was charged $9.95 in that account. Customer service reps, tellers as well as those rude mgrs, (especially Jay Calhoun at Robbinsdale branch) is sorely lacking in training and customer service skills. No wonder we are closing our accts and going elsewhere. They just plain do not care !

I DISAGREE BECAUSE IF YOU DEPOSIT CASH WITH A TELLER BEFORE THE BRANCHES CLOSED EVEN IF ITS AFTER THE CUT OFF TIME IT IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR ACCOUNT FOR THAT DAY..
ITS NOT TCF FAULT THAT THE TRANSACTIONS POST 3 DAYS LATER.. THATS UP TO THE MERCHANT WHEN THEY PROVIDE THE BANK A CONFIRMATION OF THE TRANSACTION IN ORDER TO POST TO YOUR ACCOUNT. SO IF THE MERCHANT WANTS TO TAKE 3 DAYS OR A WEEK THAT UP TO THE MERCHANT NOT TCF.. SO IF YOU DECIDE TO GO SPEND THE MONEY FOR THE ITEM THAT IS STILL PENDING AND U MAKE UR ACCOUNT NEGATIVE THAT IS UR FAULT NOT TCF...
JUST BECAUSE YOU CALL OR CHECK ON LINE OR CHECK AND ATM MACHINE FOR YOUR BALANCE THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOUR BALANCE THAT IS GIVEN IS UR BALANCE TO SPEND..

TCF Bank closing an account/customer service

I have been dealing with this bank for a very short time. I am so glad I moved to Georgia and closed the account because there were no TCF Banks local. The staff never seems to know what they are doing. The branches in the grocery stores are super slow and they seem to take breaks 10x a day. I called on the 5th to the branch and told them I had $120 still left in the account and that I was now in Georgia and wish to get the credit balance sent to me. The transferred me to the main line which took for ever then I went through the options which have no option out to get to customer service. I was told to send a notarized letter by mail only! to the branch I opened the account with att: ANY TELLER. I did as instructed and had it in the mail that day . I called on the 9th the branch a few times to get the branch superviser Alendro Zepeta who always seem to have just stepped out. Finally I was told no letter came I called again on the 10th, 14th, and 15th (same scenario) Roberto now said he had the letter and promised to send that day a Cashier's Check.. Called yesterday 18th to customer service, they called branch for me because I called and Alejandro said it was not done. Alejandro told the customer service rep that he did it on the 17th. Today 19th no check still, called customer service and they now tell me the check was drawn on the 17th. Somebody is lying and I am now asking for supervisor to help with me. Now was told it takes 24 to 48 hours to process after branch does their part.
DON'T USE THIS BANK IT'S A CROCK! WILL POST AGAIN WHEN I FINALLY GET MYYYYYY MOOOONNNNEEEYYY!

If you were moving to another state, why did you check to see if there were any TCF branches near your new address? Did you not expect to do any banking in Georgia?

You could have easily closed the account in person while you were still in Chicago.

TCF Bank charging large fees to the working poor

TCF is unsympathetic to those having employment issues or that are trying to get by in these difficult times living check to check. Rather they are counting on a large number of overdraft fees by holding items until after business hours and sending larger amount transactions first to create the largest amount of overdraft fees. Even if the item is a $2 check, they will unscrupulously charge an overdraft fee even after mom calls begging to rescind their fees. We all want to make money, but must TCF make their money on the backs of the working poor and their children.

TCF Bank mistreated

I could not believe the way me and my children was treated at this bank... I went to make a deposit for $221.00 on a Sunday inside the bank... I wanted to verify the amount I needed to deposit with my insurance people so I told the Assist manager to go ahead and help the other customers... I had counted the money out to her four $ 50dollars bills one 20 dollar bill and a $1 bill... She took the money and started to help the other customer... I then came back to counter so the other teller could help me complete my transaction... The teller asks if I had giving the assist. Manager the money I replied yes... She then went over to her and the assist. Manager said she didn't have it... The teller asks me to wait on the assist. Manger so I could talk with her... Keep in mind I waited about 15 or 20min for her to come and assist me. The manger then begin saying she didn't have my money and that I never gave her the money... She never once apologized and said I’m so sorry let me do everything I can to try and locate your money... She had a very nasty attitude and stated that she would never make a mistake like that... The assist manger counted her drawer down and stated that all her numbers matched and she didn't have my money... I was getting really upset at this point and trying to keep it together... I told her that I was not leaving untie she gave me my money back... The bank was closed so she said well I will have to call the police to have you removed... I asked her if she could run the cameras back to see if maybe someone had picked it up... She said I would have to wait tell Monday. I refused to wait tell Monday for my money... I was so upset I started to cry in tears because I was being treated as if I was lying and making the hold entire thing up... After all the back and forward another teller came over to count her drawer down... After counting her drawer down he then figure out that she was over $221.00 over... She never gave me the proper apology as an assist. Manger should do in any situation... This was very unprofessional and in no way unprofessional... They made me looked like a liar in front my kids... I have never ever experience this type of service with any bank in my life... This was no way to treat anyone at all... I then closed my accounts and withdraw all my money from the bank.. This issue really need to be addressed by someone in charge..

Rude manager at TCF Robbinsdale, MN. The tellers don't verify the items in the deposits at his branch and have made numerous mistakes in not giving me all my deposit receipts for the items that I hand them. The last incident, a teller lost my $183 check from one of the three deposits that I handed her. Later, I get it deducted from my acct. I had to make 3 calls in 20 days, trying to get documentation of the transaction that it was lost by the teller/bank and to determine whether it was 1 or multiple items, so that I can check my records for the stub, go back to the check issuer to re-issue the check. I went to Jay Calhoun, mgr at this bank. He was aloof, did not make eye-contact, didn't bother to get my name, account info, look at all the documentation that I had regarding the transaction, not get the teller # which I had proof of. He just blew me off, telling me that I wasted time gathering info (to determine where the problem was) & should just go to the check issuer to get another check. (I could not go to the check issuer without doing the research to get documentation, in order to get another check issued to me. That took 3 calls & 20 days.) I came to him to express that there is a problem with teller duties & cust service, maybe audit that teller's personal ckg account, check their misc and/or suspended items. He just didn't care. He thought that I was asking for the money to be replaced. I was not. I came to give him a "heads-up". Meanwhile, I have been deprived of the use of my $183 that they lost and additional time to have the check issuer, re-issue me another check. I told him that I will take it to "the top" and tell everyone that I am in contact with (my patients, students, professional associates, Facebook, etc., ) to warn others. And, I am moving my three accounts from TCF Robbinsdale.

TCF Bank lousy poor customer service

This bank has the POOREST customer service in the ENTIRE WORLD! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT bank here! I discovered that I am having fraudulent activity on my account, so who better to discuss some options to pursue, to help prevent these deductions from going through, then customer service? I walked into this bank, maybe at the end of the day, maybe dressed down in shorts with a scarf on my head, maybe black (african american) or MAYBE even broke, but NOONE I mean NOONE helped me with any of my issues. I even walked up to the vp of the bank "Mr." Robert E. Jones and he blew me off and sent me to another customer service rep (her name is Ganine) who was CLEARLY unhappy with her job! She proceeded to make a personal telephone call in front of me saying how upset she was and she was about to "blow a gasket". Well my suggestion is to find a job that u enjoy and maybe loose a few lbs and maybe, just maybe you can find happiness in your miserable life. Either way I have never felt so bad and HUMILIATED about being young, black, and broke. I will be closing my accts ASAP! Moral of the story DO NOT BANK WITH TCF!

I totally agree that TCF has the ### service ever and they nickel, dime, quarter, and half dollar their customers to death. I had an account with hem for many years and they were charging me 30 cents per debit card transaction up to $5.00/ month. I was like WTF? I have since switched to Educators Credit Union and they are great--never charge for debit card transactions AND excellent customer serrvice--they are always friendly and I;m still astonsihed even after a couple years.

TCF Bank dishonest polcies

I have been a small business owner in TCF bank for over 5 years. I am meticulous about balancing my checkbook to teh last penny. Over teh past few years i have had several instances of 5 or 10 dollars go missing. When i complained to the bank, they offered to do an audit which would cost me $85! I chose to let the missing money go. When is tarted the acct. i signed up into their reward points program for purchases made. I did not remember about it, till i got a letter in the mail yesterday telling me that the program is being discontinued and i should redeem my points. Went to the branch office today. The manager looks up my acct. and says there are no points. I asked her how that can be when i have not redeemed anything in 5 years. according to her the system resets every year and any points i have accumulated gos to 0. So in essence, i have no points and get no rewards. This is out and out dishonest and fraudulent practice. They sent me a note about discontinuing the program, but not a single letter about any points that i may have saved. Way to go TCF...build you banking foundation by cheating and deceiving small business owners. I will take my business to another bank which is not a fraud.

TCF Bank false advertising

TCF had a promotion online to receive $100 for making 10 qualifying transactions. Although I completed this in a the time frame they gave they refused to credit my account. When I called and spoke with a supervisor and asked to speak with his manager because he said that he did not have the "authority" to credit the account he told me I had no right to speak with someone above him. He was the team lead I highly doubt he does not have a boss. Although 3 repreesentatives prior ro him advised I had until 06/06/11 to make the transactions he said that actually the deadline was the 05/31/11 and even though you made them by then you only had 9 at the end of the day on 05/30/11. That does not make sense unless they were just trying to get out of paying the $100 to me. That is exactly what they were doing so do not expect to get paid if you signed up with them recently.

The next time TCF messes with any of you, call into the main office [protected]) and ask to speak to Mark Jeter (jee-ter) , if you get someone else, ask if they are his assistant and then speak with them (they will usually assist you by calling in their executive response team) - - OR file a complaint with the OCC (Office of the Comptroller of the Currency***) - -They make TCF behave!
Or - - if you are tired of all the letter writing and non-responsive nonsense:
email the chair and CEO:

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
Fax to them - [protected]
complete name, mailing address used by bank, your daytime phone, name & address of bank, acct # if relevant, detailed explanation of complaint, description of the resolution seeking., make sure signed & fax to [protected]

TCF Bank overdraft charges

the overdraft charges are based on manipulation of the date of the transaction. The account balance and transactions that I see online on a DAILY basis are discounted and based on the fraudulent balances and transactions on their side (which we never see). I received $175 in overdraft charges because THEY SAY my account was overdrawn $22!~!, which it wasn't based on the email account balances THEY SENT ME, plus my ONLINE account info! They MANIPULATE the dates and times of the transactions to the DAY BEFORE to assess o/d charges! They also charge on PENDING transactions, but if a DEPOSIT is in PENDING status, it is NOT considered until 2 days later and thus, they CAN CHARGE o/d charges.. Their practices hurt the poor and less fortunate and WE PAY FOR THEIR BILLION DOLLAR PROFITS... the wealthy and more fortunate ( the politicians who create the laws) do NOT suffer from the ILLEGAL, FRAUDULENT practices of this LOCAL MN bank!
Unfortunately, the MN elected politians will NOT do anything about their fraudulent activities and they will continue to PROFIT off of the less fortunate and PAY THE POLITIANS to ignore their unlawful practices.!

TCF will DO EVERYTHING IT CAN to MANIPULATE the DATES of the transacations as they hit the account and BACK THEM UP to create overdrafts ... i.e., $22 overdrawn and $175 in o/d charges, which was the child support ACH which hit the same day but they didn't post until the following day! If the posted it when it hit, there would NOT have been any overdrafts! Thanks politicians for the wonderful fix to stop this type of activity! ONLY WORKS FOR THE WEALTHY!

Direct Deposti made and checks posted. Made additional deposit and item was not posted same day when visiting the branch before 2 pm Bank did not post till next day on my account, Over draft charges on all checks totaling over 175.00 even after complaigning refused to reverse all charges and made deposit and still more over draft charges charged to my account. This bank has changed all the conditions made when opening the account including miminum deposit requirements. All transactions made from direct deposit should be made available immediately. Used account same day and received an NSF fund while visiting and making a purchase at Jewel. There is definitely something wrong with this bank. Funds are not posted correctly. Closing my account.

The same thing happened to me! They charged me on something that was pending...and told me that the company who charged me was supposed to pay my OD fees. The other company sent me proof that they swiped my card for $1 and that the charges were taked out on 7/20. My TCF Account shows the funds out on 7/20 AFTER my paycheck went into my account therefore looking at my true POSTED charges I was never negative. They are refusing to return the funds. It is very fraudulant. Because they said when I tried disputing a charge last year that they could not help me because it was "pending" and the company who charged me could actually not go ahead and the charge could be taken away.So in that conversation I was told "pending" was not real until it posted. But today I was told the opposite so they could justify their fees.

Yes, I have similar problems. TCF charged $37 for a $15 overdraft, which caused the next day to overdraft for two items ($75) and then the third day for an additional $37. $148 charged, primarily due to overdraft fees on an original $15 overdraft that I covered first thing the following morning. Talk about crooks. I hope the greedy ### get audited and sent to jail for life.

Beware of TCF Bank!
After paying settlement in class action lawsuit for overdraft swindles that bank is trying to get even in regular fraud. First, if you need to get mortgage or line of credit you will have to sign agreement that you will not take any legal action even in case of fraud that bank commits - while bank is dealing with federally funded programs from Federal Reserve Board. If you don't sign it, you don't qualify. If you sign, then bank can do whatever wants, and whatever even criminals are not allowed. If you think that FBI could protect you, you are wrong - they handle cases above $500, 000. Your state Attorney General will not handle it, because banks usually break federal, not state law. If you try to contact Federal Reserve Board, you waste your time - they will pass it to Comptroller of Currency which is very busy. And TCF Bank always will find explanation, e.g. submitting forged document with your signature which is transferred from another document, that you signed. Comptroller of Currency doesn't have such capabilities like law enforcement does. And circle is closed. And bank prospers quite well, each bank branch is managed by vicepresident, at each desk you can see manager or higher official. What you don't see there are customers despite that bank is offering $100 for any new account. The bank learned how to live without customers who only would write complaints, tfu. Hopefully all other banks will try the same, then nobody will care what banks are doing. Until then, don't try to sign any agreement with TCF Bank, unless you have a lot of money to waste.

Absolutely wrong if you think that somebody on welfare would be granted credit line and it would be granted by your employer. Now I am looking for more people like me who were screwqed by your employer, adding to it attempt of immunity by prohibition of liability lawsuits so it would allow to screw more and more people. Previously single mother from Minnetonka launched class action lawsuit to stop TCF Bank in swindling customers and she was successful. Do you think she was also on welfare ? I hope that if more and more people understand what TCF Bank is doing including illegal prohibition which denies fair due process guaranteed by 5th and 14th amendments to resolve grievances by fair court proceedings will prevail forever.

You must work for TCF, mustn't you ? Did you see the agreement ? It says exactly what I wrote - you will not sue them even in case of fraud.

A.) The swearing on here is ridiculous, it makes you sound unintelligent. Grow up.
B.) Being on welfare has nothing to do with what the original posting.
C.) There is nothing wrong with being on welfare as long as you don't abuse the system, so trying to belittle someone by using that term makes you sound ignorant...must be a Republican? I'm thinking so...
D.) Being on welfare and having bad credit have nothing to do with each other. Once again, if you're not abusing the system and reporting all your earnings, it is still possible to start a line of credit to better yourself. Just pay your bills on time, or early as well as taking out student loans, etc.
E.) I, myself, am a widowed mother of one, my husband passed in Iraq. I am one semester away from graduating and receiving my Bachelors' of Science degree for Nursing. I also hold down a "part-time" job, working 35+ hours a week. I receive no medical insurance through my employer. Pride is not an issue for me, so yes, my son DOES have medical assistance through the county. And yes, I DO receive a small amount each month to ensure that he is fed and in good health. Not all people that are on welfare are unmotivated ###s. I'm trying to give my child the life he deserves, and if that means putting my pride aside and getting help from another willing source, I'll do it. Anything for him.
As for the credit, I have a combined credit score of 726...and I'm on welfare.

Moral of the story is, keep your negative comments to yourself. If you were looking for a reaction, in which I'm sure you were, you got one. I suggest to "Here We Go Again" to not use being on welfare as an insult. Not all of our lives go as planned, and maybe you shouldn't lump us all together as a whole. Everyone's different, and everyone's story is different. Maybe when Equity42 said 'you must work for them' she meant it as a compliment. Maybe it sounded like you knew what you were taking about...you were the one that took it as an insult. Maybe if you would stop commenting on things that have nothing to do with you, you wouldn't be asked if you were employed by said company. Seems like common sense to me, but what do I know, I'm just another loser on welfare, right?

TCF practices should be investigated. Twice I have started an account with TCF after they offered a promotion. I always deposit enough to avoid any fees. I use the initial acount as a test to see if I like the bank. I do nothing with the account except leave the money there. Twice I have had to fight with them about fees that were not disclosed or the accidedently charged (I do not believe them any more). This time they changed their fee structure without notice. All of a sudden they raised their minimum account balance to avoid fees, and started monthly fees of $9.95. Until you see the first fee, there had been no notice. I have a US Bank account also. They raised the minimum but sent out a notice so I could adjust or close my account. I didn't like what US Bank did, but that was fair. TCF is NOT. I have banked with M&I, Harris, NFCU, BMO, E*Trade, TD Ameritrade, and several others. None have been as deceptive at trying to steal fees from a simple account. I worked in banking for 9 years and am still a finance professional. I consider myself smart enough to be aware of what is right and wrong with banking. TCF is as wrong as their is. I feel bad for everyone that just trusts their bank and does not have an advocate watching their account statements. TCF is counting on your ignorance and apathy so they can take the little bit of money you set aside.

I agree and disagree. It's not only minorities they're f***ing over, it's everyone. I have 3 accounts with TCF (for now). The 1st one is with my mother. She had a stroke 3 months ago and has had suffered 4 more since then. Prior to the 1st massive stroke, she was having TIA's (mini-strokes). Because of that she decided to put together a durable power of attorney for me, should the worst happen. Which it did. My mother lives with us & with her income does most of the supporting of my family. I'm disabled and cannot work, have had a Worker's Comp case going on since 12/2009. As it stands, it looks like we'll be going to court. So I have NO income coming in on my behalf, in addition to that I've been a widow since I was 32 and have 4 children. Anyway, my mother has been taking loans out against her insurance policy to help pay the mortgage, insurance, bills, groceries, etc., stuff she normally pays for. I've been depositing them in our bank account. Two weeks ago I go online and it shows that our account has been closed. I called the 800 number to find out why. The person I spoke with was incrediabally rude and ended up telling me I needed to speak with the Branch Manager. So, I called her. She told me the account will remain closed until my mother can come in & sign some forms. I explained about the multiple strokes and informed her I had a Durable Power of Attorney to cover that. She then became snide & rude and restated that they need my mother to come in before they'll reopen the account. So, I've been working with an attorney about this. Yesterday, I went on to online banking to see what my personal checking account balance was. Guess What! ALL of my accounts, including my 19 year old son's had been closed! I was like, what the f***?!? I called the 800 number and was told that my mother needs to come in & sign papers! I asked them how that could be, considering her name wasn't on any of the accounts they closed. She told me to contact the branch manager. So I called the branch (different one than the other) and asked to speak with him. I was told he was with a customer and should be done in about 1/2 an hour. I left an URGENT message for him. Anhour went by, no phone call. So I called back. Again I was told he was with a customer, but they could take a message. I told them AGAIN that it was URGENT I speak with him, my accounts had been closed and I didn't have any money to buy even bread, milk or water for my kids. He says he'll give him the message. An hour and a half go by, still NO PHONE CALL! I called back for the 3rd time. This time I was told he was and had been in a meeting with the other supervisors for about 5 hours. I said, "That's funny, the last 2 times I called I was told he was with a customer." To which I got a reply of, "I don't know why anyone would tell you that. Can I take a message?" I left the same URGENT message I had the prior 2 times I called. Then I happen to look at my clock and guess the f*** what! The bank is CLOSED FOR THE NIGHT! Without me ever receving a phone call back to my urgent messages. So, I call today (Saturday) and am told that the branch manager is not in until Monday. I said I wanted to speak to the person in charge. So a lady picks up the phone, I explain everything to her. Her response? Joe needs to deal with this, he'll be back Monday. I told her that I now had absolutelt NO MONEY, for gas, food, etc. She says she's sorry but it can be dealt with on Monday. I said to her, it should've been dealt with yesterday when I left 3 URGENT messages for Joe and that in the meantime I would be putting together my complaint letters to the BBB, the consumer fiduacary board and the attorney general, then just hung up. THIS BANK HAS TOTALLY f***ED ME OVER! I just want to get access to all my money and get the hell out of there!

TCF Bank illegal nsf charges 5 on one day & I was not overdrawn

recently opened a checking account because of the promotional
"free" $100 ---- made deposits, etc. and used debit card to fulfill 6 of the 10 transactions needed to qualify for the $100. According to my records and the online account I was fine and my balance was never negative. According to the bank site at Cub Foods, they "POST" the
transactions whenever they feel like it and they claim I was overdrawn and proceeded to charge me 5 nsf charges of $35 in one day. I fought with them and showed them proof. I then asked why the card would not have been declined that day. They said I opted in for not having the card declined -- I did not. Why would I do that knowing I'd get an overdraft? Also Cub Foods did reject when I had $.45 instead of $4.92 but they still say I opted in and blah -blah - blah. My acct. should have $2.00 and they say it is NEGATIVE -$171.00.

TCF hold your funds for purchases made, but never uses the funds to pay your transactions. They hold all your purchases for days then post them by the highest one first causing many fees and bounced checks. If they process them when you made the purchase this would not happen.

"they "POST" the transactions whenever they feel like it" Actually their system of re-ordering transactions follows cost (I think) and many other banks do the same. Have you asked if they'd reverse the charges?

TCF Bank consumer fraud

I have a concern about TCF Bank. I've been a customer there for over 23 years, and this recent action that TCF has taken against my account is questionable, to say the least. As I've stated before in my previous posts, I'm filing bankruptcy, and this bottom feeder collection agency/attorney's office "Capital Alliance Financial LLC" AKA "Stenger and Stenger" law office has levied my bank account in order to collect funds for their judgment against me. Anyway, TCF Bank took $100.00 out of my account for their "service fee" for letting this collection agency levy my bank account. I called the bank, and the rude CSR informed me that this was "standard procedure" to charge the client a fee allowing the creditor to levy their bank account. I've never heard of such a situation; perhaps I'm naive, but this is just adding insult to injury. Any way for the bank to profit, I guess. :( Another way of gouging the consumer... Unreal. I welcome any comments or anecdotes regarding this situation. Thank You!

TCF Bank fees/customer service

TCF bank is the absolute worst! Their customer service is horrible, they will not assist customers in any way when it comes to fees being assesed, even when caused by unauthorized withdrawals. Having overdraft protection to keep these fees from happening isnt that at all, it only applys to one type of transaction, not all of them. Their supervisors/managers are a joke...they will do nothing for you regardless of the circumstances. Do not open an account at this bank, it is by far one of the worst choices out there! Id rather keep my money in my matress!

I have to agree TCF is one of the worst banks around. Unfortunately my bank Standard Federal from Archer and Kedzie (Chicago) was bought out by this bank many years ago and I have had much grief for years from TCF since then. #1 Their tellers are not trained well, I know the rules better than they do. Also, instead of taking care of the customers in line, the tellers are sent out into the Jewel to drum up new customers. I always see them reading magazines and browsing in the Osco section, bored, while customers are lined up waiting to be taken care of by one teller, infuriating! How about keeping your current customers happy instead of bored tellers walking around the store. Has TCF ever taken a
statistic of how many new accounts are being opened by these people walking around and how much time of their current customers waiting in line their wasting. I have called numerous times to tell them how the tellers at their Jewel do not know the rules of the bank they work for. How about using that time to train them properly so people don't get fees because of their incompetence instead of letting them walk around aimlessly and getting paid for it. Wake up TCF, if someone wants to open an account they will. The way TCF processes checks and debits are ridiculous as the others complaining have said. It is just to collect fees from hard working people. I cannot wait for the government to strip them of their choosing to debit the largest lst, even if it did not come in first that day (because its more important, who says they get to choose, whats more important for each customer. They just want fees for all the small debits) Banks have been ripping off the public for years and the government bails them out on top of it. Folks go to a credit union they have checking and savings and better rates. You can join any credit union for $25.00 which goes into a savings account in your name. They have better rates and leave all the banks behind for caring more about their fees to rip us off then keeping us, the customers happy.
TCF I hope the government in the end, takes your bank. I have had it with your incompetent employees and your voicemail system that never works properly. When I mention it to customer service employees that I have to eventually talk to, they say we are working on it. When I talked to a manager Terri, today, she said noone is working on it. This is just an example of misinformation i get from TCF employees. ( your old one worked fine, you should have left it alone) Please government take control of these money grabbing, deceiving banks.

TCF Bank has a "policy" of rearranging the order of your transactions, regardless of the date they actually posted, so that the largest amount will be withdrawn first. This causes the account to overdraft multiple times instead of just once. Lets say I have $100 left in my account and I bought something for $101. And yesterday I had bought 5 things ranging from $5-$10 that had all cleared. TCF would take out the $101 first (plus $35 overdraft fee), then take out the 5 items from the previous day (charging each with an overdraft fee). OK, some say I should keep better track of my spending then and not go over by that $1. But when I check my online statement and everything has cleared and I see my balance, and it is different than what is apparently in my account, how is that my fault? AND WHEN MY DIRECT DEPOSIT GOES THROUGH ON MY ACCOUNT BUT THE FUNDS ARE NOT MADE AVAILABLE TO ME SO THAT I OVERDRAFT, IS THAT MY FAULT? No. This bank is a complete joke and I've had enough of the fees. If I choose to opt out of overdraft protection, they will deny my transaction and still charge the $35 fee for a NSF! What kind of crap is that? Horrible, horrible bank. If you are signing up for the promotion, heed this warning. GET YOUR MONEY AND CLOSE THE ACCOUNT ASAP.

TCF Bank overdraft fees

If I have to pay overdraft charges, then it is because *I allowed it to happen, and I have. Why would anyone complain about over draft charges when they let it happen? Granted there are times when things can slip in on us and cause an over draft; but I have found that if your account is normally in good standings; TCF will reverse the charges.

Overdraft fees--my account was $20 short--the $35.00 fee caused other over draftver fees resulting in $170 in OD fees. Brancg managers do not assist but direct you to customer service - no personal service. I was told to go to a branch I do not bank with to discuss setting up OD protection. I went to US Bank and moved my four business accounts there. They sent a representative to my business to set up the accounts with OD protection. I have had a lot of OD fee that could have been avoided if the branch managers would work with you on setting up OD protection.
-
The tellers are great--but the policies are terrible---gouge the customers seems to be their tactic of operation.

While reviewing my TCF Bank account, I had noticed a new fee that was showing up on my transactions list entitled, "Monthly Maintenance Fee". When I opened an account with TCF Bank, I was notified that it was their "Totally Free Checking Account", due to me being a student at NIU (and if I were to have any convenience with banking on campus, i was notified that the only ATMs and the banks on campus were TCF).

The first "Service Charge" took place on March 17, 2010 - SEVEN months after I had opened my account. I hadn't checked my online banking as much as I probably should have in order to notice that this was going on. The only time I noticed this was when I went to review my account after making a purchase at the local Wal-Mart in Sycamore, IL on March 18, 2010. I remember specifically because I had used some of the money that was recently deposited into my account earlier that week for medication because I was ill - and I had wanted to see how much money I had left over after making a second purchase that week.

After seeing this service fee was implemented on my account, and not noticing anything like this previously on my account, I called the customer service number and asked them what was going on. To paraphrase, the lady I had spoken to notified me that this was an irreversible fee, and it was because my account had changed according to them, that month - she told me to look in my messages to see that my account type was changed. I followed her instructions, and I did not receive ANY notifications of any sort - mail, email, etc.- that my account type had been changed. The lady also stated that, because I did not have $500 in my account, that is why I was being charged this (I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT- which equals to NO MONEY). This is my first complaint.

My second complaint complies of simply the dates the "Service Fees" were made. The first one dated - March 17, 2010, the second one dated - April 16, 2010 (a day before the first charge was made), and the third dated - May 18, 2010 (two days after the month time period would be sort of remotely acceptable (if the charge was acceptable in the first place). The timeliness of this bank is completely absurd and unpredictable. According to their logic, I am just supposed to "know" when they decided to take the money out of my account, and not go over, even though I barely had any money in the first place.

Sortly after this, I had refused to use my TCF account for anything else - and I am assuming the bank took the hint since they closed my account, and sent the money that they caused me in overdraft fees due to their own untimely will. I owe, I believe $90.00 in total due to just their fees. Thank you TCF Bank for doing nothing, but causing me stress and anxiety.

I agree with several of the posts here about TCF, but I'm sick and tired of this one. TCF SENT YOU FIVE NOTICES. One a month, for 5 months before they charged the first fee. If you don't choose to read the info included in your statement, the e-mails you receive, or other notices sent to you by the bank you are probably going to lose money. Hopefully you've learned from your mistake. BANKS WANT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY! Not just TCF, ALL BANKS! Don't be a sucker! They count on you not reading your mail.

Actually, if you read, I said that after checking, which I do NOT throw out any bank letters. I have a file that I keep each one in. So if you had all of the facts, maybe you would be able to figure that out on your own. As you can see in your comment, you have assumed that I have automatically tossed it out. (Especially since I stated, that I checked after being advised by the TCF customer service worker. Who also advised me that it would be in my notifications, which would be simply found online, which there was not one referencing anything to an account change. )

Thanks for your kind criticism. I hope you, yourself, can realize that you do not have ALL of the corresponding facts either - and since this is a public board, and I wrote this all free hand without another draft, like most legal document have - people make mistakes when writing. I apologize.

TCF = SUCK ### RIP OFF!

They changed their pollicy on 4/1/09. Now pending trans actions are held against your account and make the funds "unavailable". I ran this scenerio through with the bank manager, and she agreed, but seemed like she didn't care one bit.

-You deposit $20 in your account. Go spend $4 at starbucks on a cup of coffee. Then go put $1 in gas in your car, BUT the terminal at the gas station authorizes you for $20 (as most all of them do). When that $4 hits your account, the $20 "authorization" is "pending" and therefore the money is "unavailable" BAM $35 FEE! So you deposite $20, spend $5 and somehow are magically hit with a $35 dollar fee.

Funny that at the exact same time they changed this, they changed another pollicy, the amount that they will continue to authorize, when you're already negative! Before when you "cleared" ballance didn't have enough to cover a transaction, it was declined. But now with the new pollicy that's done away with, OH, but you can "opt" out of this part by sending in some letter to a PO box that'll fall through the cracks and nothing ever will be done with it! Now really why would you opt both of these at the exact same time. Well it's because they sneak the first couple overdrafts in there (even though you had money) but if they were to alert you that you were already negative (by declining your card), than they couldn't hit you for the other $500 in charges.

I personally RARELY ever have a problem with OD charges, cause I keep a close eye on it. 3 snow ball's this month with a total of more than $1000 in overdraft charges. All three times there was money in my account, more than enough to cover, but there were magically "authorizations" that made the funds "unavailable"... Get the ### outa here...$1000 when I actually had money in there?

As a customer I'm entrusting my money to a bank, I turst them to hold it, take care of it, watch after it, and make interest with it. I shoul NOT have to pay them when I'm doing a servie to them by LETTING them hold on to it for me. I'm LOANING it to them to make a piss interest rate so they can intern loan it back to me at 7-8% on a house 10-20% on a car or 15-30% on a credit card? Now on top of that I have to pay them out the ### because of how their magical system calculates things? ### THAT!

Becasue I did have issues with transferin money before when their online was down, I tried to get OD protection. I was told "Oh yea, no problem, with you're credit score we're going to give you the max ($2K)" Two months later, I got OD charges again, come to find out they didn't set it up. Not only that but they didn't give a ###. They had to repull my credit (which hurts my highly guarded score), and then they come back and tell me that I've had too many OD's in the last month that they can't set it up? WTF? Really? I have OD's cause those ###s didn't do their job right the first time, and you're not going to give me a line of credit cause you're affraid that I"m going to use it? How does that work?

I think what they really meant to say was, "If we set this up for you than our big wigs with inflated sallaries can't screw your ### as hard and take your hard earned money!"

Yes they did inform us though. Somewhere around March, it was on the last page of your statement, written in really small writing, disguised with a combination of legal, and "we're helping you" lingo, with statements like our debt system will be in "real time" (like it wasn't already before) sounding like they're updating to some cool new system. It was in that part with usless stuff that NO ONE EVER READS! Oh, and somewhere in the "we'll screw you" section of your paperwork when you first opened the account, you agreed that they could change pollicies to steal your money at any time, and you're ok with that.

Funny thing is ###s (probably who work there) get on here to defend them saying statement's like "well you just don't know how to manage your money", funny thing is that's the exact same attitude that the employee's there have too! I know that the complaint rate, and account clouser rate, AND the amount of online bashing has increase ALOT since this pollicy has enacted. Why cause we all can't manage our money? No you ### stick! It's because this policy SUCKS, and was soley implamented and designed to SCREW US out of our money... Again, why would you enact BOTH these new policies at the same time? Neither of them help us, One is designed to take the money, and the other to inflate the amount they can take. They word it like "we're doing you a favor by allowing you to purchase and by covering your purchases", the thing is though, by the time they're authorizing things because the funds aren't available you're well stooped into OD charges, AND to add to the confusion, they don't show up till a DAY LATER, so even if you think you got things straight, YOU DON'T cause they're already working on ###ing you again!

### TCF! And ### every last employee with the "I don't give a ###, it must be your fault attituede!"

This week TCF used 3 unauthorized pending debits to bounce $175 worth of checks (that would have otherwise been covered) and then bounced the same pending debits when two posted the next day, the third a day later for another jackpot of $105. They refused to stop payment on the pending debits (why?) and made me fill out a bunch of papers and said it would take 10 days. They told me they would cancel my card and cut it up (add 10 days for another card). Today I find out that they did not cancel my card that day, my insurance payment bounced and was returned (I had told them it would be declined), so that caused me a charge from them as well as another $35 from TCF. This weeks total is $350 in nsf charges. I am writing to my Attorney General, Federal Trade Commission and TCF Corporate. I am posting this on all TCF complaints - you should copy and paste your post also if you have time. This is the reason...

The "make money from home" drones. I always wondered what that was all about. You should be getting around to 10 or more comments scolding you, some out-and-out insulting you. Example: Read your contract, blah, blah. // If you don't know how to manage a checking account you shouldn't have one. // Some will give you their sage explanation or technical logic of how the system works and how you can avoid this problem like you're an idiot. Just ignore them, especially the ones who mention check registers as they are useless when dealing with TCF. They conveniently removed the time of transaction off the account summary. Why would they do that? Proof that your money was in the bank when you used your DEBIT card maybe?

I finally figured it out when I posted a "ripoff" report on Discover card ... - every post was pro-Discover. People calling me a deadbeat, etc. I thought it was strange that so many people were sitting around defending Discover card in one night. It hit me as I was thinking "is somebody paying these people or what?" Ya, probably per post to cover their NSF charges. So now, when I have a little extra chill time, which is not real often because I have a real job, I dedicate it to supporting honest hard working people getting ripped off and trying to prevent others from the same misfortune.

TCF Bank fraud

I CONTACTED tcf bank WITwhom I have had an account with for over 10 years and have always been in GREAT standings and have enjoyed my services. I had a family member steal my checkbook and wrote 1000.00 in bad checks and I called them right away. I have beentreated HORRIBLEY! They closed the account in which fraud was done and I totally agree with that. I opened another one and the instantly CLOSED it. I opened it with an itital deposit of 125.00 and TCF took it and closed it as I mentioned. I have no banking services available to me AT ALL. I am being TREATED like a criminial. I have paid all but 318.00 to avoid the bad credits that will follow until the investagation can be conducted. I called to make a payment to them over the phone - they refused. They actually cleared ALL 10 checks that my family memer wrote ALL one day and cleared checks for her that I didnt even have money in my checking account to cover. They CLAIM they did this as a courtesey ! When, I call them the tone they talk to me with is not nice. I went in to TCF BANK .com to set up YET another account and I made a deposit of 350.00 knowing they will take it. I am a proud women and I have money, and I am trying to pay the bank until all this is investagated and they continue to treat me like a CRIMINAL. I am calling corporate office. I dont agree with them shutting my new account down . I have no way of banking. Its wrong what they do to us.

TCF will charge you a printing charge for your "free checks". I directly asked the person who opened my account if there was a check printing charge, and was told no! The $50 bonus that is supposed to be credited to your account the next business day after 10 transactions has not happened yet. It is 30 cents for each debit transaction! You have to use your DEBIT card as a credit to avoid the 30 cent fee. If you swipe you card at Walgreen's you will not get a choice to switch to credit until you are asked to enter your PIN...thus making you aware that it is a debit... Why aren't people outraged about these practices by TCF?

Can you believe that in 2010 you cannot e-mail customer service at TCF so the you have written prove of your complaint or comment? They want no record. You cannot directly call a TCF branch...yet for other matters, you can ONLY deal with a branch since the phone customer service supposedly can't do anything in certain matter... All so convenient...and fraudulent

If there is a class action suit, please let me know!

TCF Bank totally scams it's customers. They entice you to open an account, dodn't tell you about fees, then you get NSF fees on top of it. They ALSO charge you NSF fees when you have the money in your account, which then causes you to go negative, and then they charge MORE NSF fees! Then, they charge daily negative balance fees! OMG, their original NSF fee for NO REASON WHATSOEVER is what caused this nightmare to begin. It is a sheer horrific bank; don't fall for any promos they entice you with.

TCF (Chelsea, MI branch) changed me into different checking accounts without my knowledge not only once, but twice. I was unknowingly getting hit with a monthly $9.95 'maintence fee' when I easily had enough $ in the account I signed up for to avoid a fee. Then they changed me yet again, this time to an account where I needed to have 4 times the amount I had in order to avoid a fee. They got me for 50-60 dollars before I caught on. Admittedly I wasn't checking my statements (otherwise I would've gotten one fee and one fee only before I cancelled the account), but knew how much I had, so was clueless that they were raiding my account. Recenly saw a report on the news about an 18 year old whom had a similar thing happen at TCF. He ended up getting reimbursed. I am willing to file whatever complaints I need to and go to newspaper editoritals, etc.

I recently closed an account with TCF Bank in Chelsea, MI. Without my consent they changed my policy not only once, but twice. Suddenly I was getting hit with a monthly $9.95 'maintenance fee' while I had well over the amount needed to avoid a fee. Then they changed it for a second time to an account that was 4 times the amount I had. When I closed the acount a manager tried to tell me that I had signed up for that from the start. After I started to mention that I was filing a complaint, the clerk who closed my account stated, "Just so you don't think you're crazy, they did change your account. Twice. " Then ponted out the dates. I recently saw a story on a newscast where they did the same thing to an 18 year old and he ended up getting reimbursed. I will do the same and will go to several newspapers if I do not get my 50-60 dollars back.

INDEED - TOTALLY FREE = TOTALLY FALSE, which is a premise for investigation by Michigan state Attorney's General Office. Do not complain here, complain directly the state's attorney.

A few things:

You must have had a bad teller because I was told up front about the printing fee.

And that debit charge is soon going to happen with every bank because of law changes.

Though I agree that you should have your money if it's passed the ten days.
