This malware popped up on my computer after my boyfriend mistakenly clicked on the icon, thinking it was my antivirus software. I then spent two days being inundated with pop ups trying to scare me into purchasing their antispyware program. It also disabled numerous programs in my computer, preventing me from removing the malware. I was unable to open my task wizard, control panel, Microsoft Word, or any other program that might be accessed to disable it. It even stopped legitimate antivirus downloads from running and would kick me offline with a screen message that would force me to shut down my computer.
I never purchased anything, nor did I ever authorize the download of this malware. To disable the program, I restarted my computer in safe mode with networking, downloaded a legitimate antimalware program (in my case, malwarebytes worked) and allowed the program to do a complete scan and removal of 25 infected files. This was the only way that I could get around this virus and remove it safely - system security disabled any other method that I tried.
I have tried in vain to call the "company" and complain, and I hope by filing this complaint, it prevents someone else from falling into their scam. They are using strong-arm and scare tactics to force people to buy this "product". While I didn't fall victim to their fraudulent practices, I would like nothing more than to get ahold of someone in their customer service department and do some yelling - but no one answers the phone!
