Swoopo.co.uk AUCTIONS -- DO NOT BID!!!!

DON'T BID ON THIS SITE: SWOOPO.CO.UK. YOU HAVE TO BUY BIDS -- WASTE OF MONEY.
SCAM BEING RUN. AUCTIONS NEVER END. WHEN AUCTIONS ABOUT TO END THE TIMER GOES BACK TO 10/15/20SECONDS. COMPLAINED TO SWOOPO 'THEY SAID TIMER GOES UP AGAIN YO ALLOW OTHER BIDDERS A CHANCE TO BID AND THEY ARE EMPLOYING THE SO CALLED 'GOING, GOING, GONE!' STRATEGY. ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. AUCTIONS WHEN ENDING LAST FOR HOURS -- NEVER ENDING AS BIDDERS THINK THEY ARE GOING TO WIN SO BIDS COME IN AND COUNTDOWN TIMER GOES UP AGAIN AND AGAIN INCREASING TIME OF AUCTION ENDING WHICH IS NEVER. READ OTHER COMMENTS ON SWOOPO ON THIS SITE. TRADING STANDARDS SHOULD GET INVOLVED AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SITE. i WASTED MY MONEY --DON'T YOU DO THE SAME.

JOINED SWOOPO AND PAID $ 37 AT ITS US SITE.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. THIS SITE SHOULD BE BANNED AS THIS IS LIKE SLOT MACHINE. YOU KEEP IN DROPPING 75 CENTS EVERY TIME THINKING THAT YOU WILL WIN, ONLY THAT THE TIMER THEY HAVE ON THIS SITE PLAYS AN ELUSIVE GAME WTH YOU AT THE LAST MOMENT. SOMETIMES THE COUNTING STOPS BETWEEN 5 - 1 SECOND INTERVAL AND YOU ARE TEMPTED TO PUT YOUR BID, ONLY TO KNOW THAT THE IT AGAIN WENT BACK TO 15SECONDS. AND THIS GOES ON AND ON AND YOU KEEP ON LOOKING AT THE SCREEN AND DROPPING YOUR 75 CENTS EVERYTIME.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE OTHER BIDDERS ARE. THEY MIGHT EVEN BE PROXY BIDDERS OF SWOOPO TO LURE YOU IN.

AND WHO KNOWS WHO WON THAT ITEM ? WHO IS THAT SOMEONE. IT IS ALL TOO FISHY.

SO DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS SITE.

Swoopo.co.uk scam or serious problems ?

To show my experiences with this site I have included my complaints and a reply from the site involved.

My first complaint:
I feel like i just got ripped off. I was bidding in this auction and i was
showing as the current bidder with a red 9 seconds remaining on the clock. i never
took my eyes off the screen and all of a sudden the auction ended and someone else
had won.during the 9 seconds i bid again just in case and was told i was the
current bidder. this doesnt seem right as i had used up about 30 quids worth of bids.

Their reply:
Hi Robert,

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch.

Occasionally, users tell us that even though they bid before the countdown ended
on their browser, their bids did not get placed and the auction ends. In these
instances, the most likely explanation is so-called "Internet lag times". These
are time-delays in the transfer of data between your PC and our servers. Mostly
those delays (lags) occur because single parts of the internet connection are
overloaded.

This, unfortunately, is a general problem with the internet.

There are a few ways of helping minimise this problem:

* While bidding on Swoopo do not download large data such as video or audio files
from the internet.
* Don't send emails with large attachments while bidding on Swoopo.
* Make sure that no other users such as family members, etc. are using the
internet while you are bidding.

I'm very sorry your bid wasn't registered by the Swoopo servers in time. To be
absolutely certain that you avoid the problem of "Internet lag times" don't leave
your bidding until the last second, or better still, use the BidButler
to place your bids. You might be interested in reading more about internet lag
times on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_lag.

I hope this clears things up, but if not, please don't hesitate to get back in
touch. You'll also find lots of helpful information at http://uk.swoopo.com/help.html

Swoopo UK customer support.

My response:
I was not downloading at the time and i had no other applications running. Although i have another computer connected in my house, it was not being used on the internet. My bid did register but in the space of about 9 seconds the bid jumped from around 88.50 gbp to 90.00 gbp all the time showing me as the current bidder and then changed to auction ended, i then thought i was the winner until the congratulations appeared with another bidders name.
If this is a common problem there must be a large number of people wasting their money bidding on items.
No reply as yet.
My second complaint:
Further to my recent complaint:
I decided to bid on item 128331
I made sure I had no other applications running on my computer and that no other computer in the house was connected to the internet and began to bid.
The item had loads of bidders but there were about 12 bidding constantly. The winner started bidding only a few minutes before the auction ended. I had only placed 18 bids. the winner placed 17. The other regular bidders had placed many more bids. Most of these were still bidding when the auction ended, myself included. I infact tried to click on 3 seconds but the timer jumped to zero as i clicked and the auction ended. I do not believe for one second that all the other bidders dropped out at the same time.
There is definitely something wrong here and I will be very surprised if there aren't a lot of dissatisfied bidders at this moment.
I will now attempt to make contact with other members via the internet to find out about their experiences with the site, before making any other complaint, and to help me decide if membership is worthwhile.
No reply as yet.
This company state they can afford to sell the items cheap because there is a charge of 40p for each bid made. the bids in general go up by 8p at a time but there are also penny auctions. This means that if something worth 200 quid sells for 100 quid it will have had either 1250 bids in the case of the 8p auction at a total cost of 500 quid to the bidders. Add that to the 100 quid the winner has to pay and they get 600 quid for a 200 quid retail priced item. In a penny auction they would get 4 grand in bids, plus the 100 selling price for the same item.
You would think that with this massive profit they could at least refund my bids or give me the option of buying the item at the winning price, they have plenty of them to sell.

I wish i had of researched this site before even wasting my whole day and money on this website! At first i thought what a clever idea buying bids so lots of people bid, that way the site gets its profit and the customer grabs a bargain... but its even more clever and sneaky than that, swoopo.co.uk must use internet programs or site mods to out bid the normal customer. I have very stupidly spent my whole day on this site bidding on a t.v only to suddenly be told "auction ended" even though i bid 2 seconds previously! Such a scam scam scam... i feel extreemly stupid! I can think of a billion other things i could have done today. I wonder how long this site will get away with this. Expensive lesson learnt!

If you're loosing that amount of money bidding then you must not be bidding right! You have to bid tacktically to win.
People that place bids willy nilly obviously do not understand how it works!

I have bid on numerous different items and won maybe half of them and only lost a minimum amount of bids. I do not understand how you have lost that much money!

I too have experienced same with swoopo. i bidded for an item at 3 secs. and it jumped to the end. I also noticed the rubbish items they have for new bidders. it got me thinking that they must have their special bidders who win big things and it does not matter how much or how tactically you bid, you will never win.

i have already spent £60 with as much as winning a pin. thanks for alerting me to this. i shall save my pennies for the future.

Swoopo. For those of you who aren't familiar with this site, it's supposed to be an auction site where you pay 50p to bid and get great items at ridiculously low prices. This is somewhat true but absolutely misleading. This site is a SCAM. More of a gambling site than an auction site. The products and bidders are the same all over the world.. AND before you doubters start to stick up for the site, check for yourself: go on both the UK and US site and see that the same items are being bid on by the same people, with the same time limits left! Also, and this is the bit that makes it a scam and not a legitimate auction/gambling site, sometimes it's not even the same product advertised in both countries, but has the same bidders, same amount of time left and the same winners. So, with only 200 LIVE auctions at a time, with thousands of people worldwide bidding on the same thing (or not, but are still in the same auction!) the odds of you winning are probably worse than the lottery and actual legitimate betting: so play bingo or bet on the horses instead, you're more likely to win SOMETHING!

This Penny Auction Watch site is Major scam(pennyauctionwatch.com). Also known as "PAW".

PAW is a front for these dishonest penny auction owners to make their sites look legit. Penny Auction Owners plant positive experiences on here(Complaints Board) and on the Penny Auction Watch forums(PAW) to bait people into playing and buying bid packs. Buying bid packs to bid on items? What a joke and scam!

Go to Flippa[dot]com and search "penny auctions for sale"

There you can see how these operates by the use of controlled bots on autobid to scam any real people into buying more and more bid packs until the reserve price has at least been met for that item that's bid on. They aren't in the business to LOSE money and will never ACTUALLY sell an item below value. If not enough real people are bidding on a particular item for a while, they will end the auction to a bot name. They will then list the bots name in the "Auction History" section to make it look as if REAL people actually win and auction is honest+fair.

You can buy your own Penny Auction from Flippa.com and start scamming also. So easy to do.

Also. Google, "penny auction website script" and see how these scams operate. The scripts are cheap to buy.
To build up traffic to your scam penny auction you must plant positive experiences on forums such as PAW(PAW is a front). You must also dispute ANY negativity or complaints on forums such as this.
For EX, tell the angry complainer that he must be crazy, use stupid bidding techniques and unlucky because you win all the time and just won a 52inch Plasma for 2 bucks. People WILL start believing you if you plant enough fake postitive experiences/reviews. JUST make sure to use different names each time you fake post. If you use same name over and over again telling everyone you win all the time, people will begin to catch on and realize it's just a fake post planted by the Penny Site operator/owner.

They cheat you and make a killing from people like you that bought into it. Some will even go as far as to advertise on social networking sites such as "FACEBOOK" and write stories of winning items for $4 and so on to get people to join the site.
I call it their, "Fake Social Environment" where they ask and answer their own questions attempting to be perceived as an honest and fair auction. For EX they will say, "I just won 12 Lap Tops for $40 and they all arrived today in factory sealed boxes! I love this site!"

Anyone can do this... so easy to make money. MAKE sure that the server that hosts your scam auction is located outside of the USA so you can get around federal gambling regulated laws. If heat gets to much, then shut scam auction down and create a new one. Repeat process.

Happy scammin'!

I tried to post that on PAW(pennyauctionwatch[.]com) to warn good honest people BUT they wouldn't allow it to post.. I wonder why? ;)

So i'll just post away on websites such as this.

You use to could post on PAW right away but now they have a Moderator that must approve your post first.. I wonder why that is? ;)

I think we ALL know why that is :)

THE DEATH PENALTY SHOULD BE BROUGHT BACK FOR THESE SCAM ARTISTS.hi everyone.ill keep this as short as possible.i joined swoopo.com last week and watched it for a while thinking that it was to good to be true, and it was.i bought 100 bids for £50 and watched one of their auctions for £1500.their last auction for £1500 sold for £219.46.so i let the bids that were being placed go up to £234.then i placed the bidbutler to bid for me from £234 to £250 using my 100 bids, considering they told me i would get my bids replaced if i didnt win the item.more on that later.so im sitting watching this auction for hours as it went up by 1 penny everytime someone placed a bid that cost them 50 pence.anyway my so called bidbutler bid twice as soon as i put it in place just to let me know i was in the game i suppose.then as i said i watched as various bidders bid on the item, especially bidders tianani and sunshine_777, and not once did my bidbutler bid for me, so i thought it was going to wait until near my £250 cut of price and bid frantically to put the other bidders of.but believe it or not the price went up to £249.90 with the main two bidders among others being tianani and sunshine_777.i was watching it and said my bidbutler should have jumped in quite a while ago now and why hasnt it.and to add insult to injury the auction ended at £249.90 and sunshine_777 won the auction.my bidbutler had 10 more bids were it could have intervened and won that auction for me because my cut of price was £250.if anybody doesnt understand what im saying about the bidbutler just go on their site and this will become clear.but come straight of it again once you do.anyway this made me angry to say the least and to add insult to insult to injury they then took my whole 100 bids and replaced them with bonus bids considering they only used two of them at the start of the auction.and bonus bids are not like the bids you buy because bonus bids can only be used on bonus auctions which are very few and far between and for useless items such as 20 bid packs.so i emailed them ten times now complaining and have given up since they are just ignoring my emails.twice should have been enough to make me realise but i wanted to make sure because i will make it my lifes mission to put these filthy, money grabbing gangsters out of business.please stay away at all costs friends and could anybody out there please tell me how i could post a proper detailed complaint like this complaints board has done so its up when people search for it on google or whatever search engine people use because if i was to write a proper detailed report and people read it they wouldnt touch swoopo.com with a barge pole.and i could be wrong about this but that particular auction for £1500 made £12495 in 50 pence bids for swoopo and the winner sunshine_777 placed 3264 bids which cost them £1632 and they still have to pay the £249.90 for the auction.so thats £1881.90 to win a £1500 auction.i would say bidder sunshine_777 is a very good friend of swoopo if you get what i mean and was placing those bids to keep innocent victims placing their bids and was always going to win the auction.PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE IT IS A TOTAL AND UTTER SCAM.

The site is not a scam. You are bidding, not buying. People act as if they have no idea how it works. You can lose money easily if youre stupid and not paying attention. But, you can win big aswell.

It is an absolute con. Look at this. They have the same people bidding on two acutions at the same time. So someone wanting an iPad bids and this also raises the price of a Acer HD projector. They are basically playing two sets of people off against each other. The cycle keeps on going. Disgraceful and should be shut down...

What can I say - I wish I thought of it. What a money spinner. Lyn claims to have won 49 times in 9 months - sounds like a stooge doesn't it? Suggestion is a powerful thing - the promises of big savings, as if!. You've only got to look at the site to realise all is not what it seems. Every bid adds 20 seconds, so with everyone bidding the time never really ends until the price gets to somewhere near the retail value - which on expensive items takes absolutely hours and hours. And when you consider each of those bids is paid for (a bid adds 10p) at approx 50p each suddenly something worth only £50 generates in the region of £250+ profit for the company. Of course some people will get things sent out otherwise it wouldn't be legal but legal doesn't mean it isn't a scam. They also have an "ended" auctions list which is just laughable. One of these ended auctions was for a £1700 macbook air that the winner only paid £17 for. I don't think so, clearly this is just a list of dangling carrots, any real auctions where top price is paid won't be shown...Too good to be true - it usually is !

I think Swoopo is a scam. I decided to try it after reading everything on the site and checking it out. I purchased the smallest bid package and bid on a few items and discovered that it doesn't matter if you bid closest to one second because all that means is that your bid just adds another 10 seconds to the timer giving someone else a chance to bid.
How you really win at this with this kind of strategy is to have enough bids left at the end when everyone's bid butler and single bids run out at the exact same time and no new bidders come on board. If all three of those things happen at the same time and you make the last bid then you win.
Why I think this is a scam is because when I purchased a bid butler package the bid butler apparently was so fast spending all my bids that it didn't even show up on the bidding chart. In fact when I looked in the bidding chart box only one of my 32 bids showed up and I only recall seeing 2 of them show up at all through the entire process. When the auction ended I looked at the bid history and still did not see my bids there and yes I counted the pennies. I lost the bid by 2 pennies and when I looked in the bid history my bid was missing.
Do not use the bid butler. Bid butlers spend all your bids at once and even though it says the clock won't go longer then 2 minutes, it does. What is happening is a bid butler package gets spent all at once (it bids against it's self, not others and that's how you get scammed). Each bid is worth 10 seconds so if you buy a bid butler package for 20 bids it will spend them all at once raising the clock another 1 minute and 40 seconds. If several people do it then that's how the clock got booted to another 5 minutes. The other thing that is misleading is the "Sold For" price and auction no. I noticed the last "Sold For" price is not updated which misleads new bidders and the auction no. did not change so it is the same item being sold over and over so does this mean it never sold or they bought a pile of them and have the same auction over and over? Anyone else see these issues? Thank you.

purely fraudulent and illegal, much less immoral.
My thinking is that they have a hidden bot too, interfering every second with a bid, trying to penetrate that hooker even further into your idiocy, let alone the ads all over the website about some baboon who got away with an iPhone 4 for $7.83

avoid it to your good, get involved to your detriment, but there is no Free LUNCH in the market. rule no. 1

Soopo are no way whatsoever an auction site as they claim to be. These guys are probably the most unscrupulous bunch of con-artists I've ever seen, even on the internet!

The math on this staggering, having just watched a LV bag selling for around £75 (which is a good price - if that's what you're paying but of course you're not) and done a bit of multiplication it turns out that £3750 was spent on this bag! Even if the winner only placed 20 'bids' on this it still cost them £10 more than the winning price listed, what about the other bidders who have collectively just flushed £3, 740 down the toilet? If you have a look at some of the TV's and electronic goods sold it gets even more frightening, Samsung TV sold for £168 meaning that Swoopo made £8, 400 on the TV! How is this legal?

In short the consumer is just not protected in this kind of situation. How this site legally exists beggars belief as it prays on the uninitiated and although the true definition of a 'scam' is slightly different this site is the worst of the internet and can be paralleled with any other exploitation of the public. As usual the bright-sparks at the trading standards agency seem to deem this as acceptable as they've done nothing to investigate Swoopo to any extent, and if they have done their 'findings' are nowhere to be found ... perhaps they were given 300 free bids to look the other way!
