Misleading information before signing up
I registered a company last year and in a couple of days received a letter from switchmedia (looked like it was part of the Companies house) congratulating me for the new company setup and offering me a domain name for £6 for a year. I signed up only because it was £6 and never used the domain and just a few days back received an invoice for £118. Sent an email to their accounts and admin dept saying I dont wish to renew.
Had a phone call from switchmedia saying that the contract was for 2 years and I had to pay the invoice or they will start legal action. Asked the rude guy if it was a 2 year contract then why would he call it a renewal, the only answer for all my questions was "I have sent you the link to the terms and conditions". I have read the T&C (too late), and it says
"The Contract may be terminated by either party providing 60 days written notice save that no such notice shall be served until the last day of the Term or the last day of the Renewal as the case may be." Isn't the term renewal used wrongly here, a renewal must be at the discretion of both parties, how can a compulsory renewal be part of a contract? This company is a fraud but the amounts are not big enough to get the ombudsman or OFT involved. There may be many people who would have just paid because they didn't want the hassle. This company doesn't need happy/satisfied customers it must have made millions by now just using the terms and conditions. I'll give it a try by writing to the Trading standards just in case they bother to investigate.
Also it seems they have some kind of tie up with the companies house who send them details of new companies registered (probably for a fee), I would write to them as well.

Shockingly poor performance
Please take my word for this, I had the misfortune of dealing with a company called Switch Media in the UK, who said they specialized in web design. Initially they came across very professional but when it came to actually doing what they said the were a complete and utter disgrace. They would be on the phone and email very quickly when it came to stage payments but when it came to working on the site or fixing problems they would ignore phone calls, ignore follow up emails. They promised to build a basic enough site in 4 weeks. It has taken them about 14 weeks to build it. If this wasn't bad enough during these 14 weeks I have had to constantly chase them up to fix all sorts of basic errors on the site. They even launched the site with another companies contact details. To make matters worse in week 11 when the site wasn't even fully built and error strewn they again were on looking for final payment! Truly I cannot emphasis just how bad this company is to deal with. I also spoke to a colleague of mine who had a similar experience with them for Accenture. To sum up how they treat their customers, one of which I will never be again, the only support they have over the Christmas period is Sales and Billing. When I called over this period to complain about the fact customers credit cards couldn't be processed and they forgot to put in the recipient address for my products there was no technical support due back until 5th of Jan well no qualified technical support that could fix problems. They then of course try say a recipient address is an additional cost, they do this an awful lot, imagine asking for an ecommerce site and they forget to put in a place where customers can leave their address, as I asked them "When the order is Placed, where do I send the goods?" answer was "...ehh...that's an extra cost". Even then after the break I was ignored about 3 times and had to deal with a new individual altogether as the other ones were probably too embarrassed to talk to me. One word for www.switchmedia.co.uk - DISGRACE. Trust me stay away from this company.

I just simply wanted to change a domain registrar because Switchmedia charging double price on ie domain names.
I asked for az EPP auth code which I needed for a domain trasfer.
They refused to give it to me and explained If I pay another year upfront I can transfer my domain.
My domain, my property. They must not to refuse to give the EPP code because its illegal but after 8 days I still have nothing and they keep pushing me to pay.
My domain and email service have been blocked so I cant keep the contact with my clients and loosing time/money.
I also contacted a solicitor in the mean time and Iam right but even Im I dont have email services.
The only thing I can do if I want my clients emails I have to pay. THIS IS EXTORTION. They dont say it, but you feel it.
STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYBODY.
WORST AND LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE
Keep away from this company. It has a lousy customer service. The Control Panel is so difficult to use. The staff are so unhelpful, they even block accounts and emails. Being so many years with them has been a real struggle, the emails dont work for the staff and have to use hotmail accounts. Complete watse of time and money.
Have given 1 star, I would have given 0 stars or (-) negative if I could.
Nothing has changed, they are as ridiculous as always! You cannot contact them by email. In their yearly invoice they ask that one should confirm payment to a specific email. When you do this, an automated response comes to say that they do not monitor this email, and ask to log into the control panel and contact them through the control panel. When we try to do this, the message 'domain name not recognised' comes up. When you Google for their real email address - and that can only be found with great difficulty - that email will also bounce back saying that they do not monitor that email either, and are asking again to log in through the control panel, and with that, we have gone full circle, as this does also not work. So the company, which proclaims email, can itself not be reached by email... How ridiculous is that?!
I received the mailing for Switch Media shortly after forming a limited company. After one year my bill practically trebled, but it wasn't due yet. My bank manager offered to cancel my debit card and replace it with anew one. Sure enough, Switch tried to process the invoice without my authorisation. I went through some sort of cancellation process and was told that my account was cancelled. Then they tried again to get funds through my card. For the last two years they try to bill me by keeping the account open after telling me it was closed. This is just another facet of their predatory marketing strategies. They have been threatening legal action for almost three years now, and every year they try to hit my account. It has become an annual event. I would like very much to go to court over this "contract, " and have told them so. I believe that the renewal clause they so carefully hide in their terms can be overturned. Nothing has happened so far.
Just had the same bad experiences with Switch Media. I have used them for e-mail and domain hosting for the past two years and recently sent them an e-mail to advise that I would be closing the account in the near future, requesting month by month payments instead of the annual fee. My e-mails were completely ignored and I started to receive demanding letters, threatening legal action if the 2014-15 fees were not paid in full. This company should not be trading. I am ignoring all their letters and will be passing all correspondence, e-mails etc to my lawyers and Trading Standards.

Switch Media are rubbish! I go my company domain name sorted with these guys & I paid for this for a couple of years then got a domain name free with my website company so canx with Switch Media, they told me I had a contract? I don't & didn't sign any thing so for the last two years they have been billing me at one time I got (no joke) 48 letters in two days? I called & told them I'm not paying any thing & was told I have to pay every year £118 plus some extra charge of £30 or they will keep billing me till I pay. DO NOT DO ANY THING WITH THIS COMPANY RUBBISH!

I see Im not the only one. I had / still have a problem with them, I bought from them hosting and domain for my company. Everything was ok in the first year. After a year I received like 20 emails with information if I will not pay 150euro for hosting (which i didnt even use) they will shut down my company website. I was pushed to pay it, since then my email address isnt working! its been like 6 months like this. Im loosing clients, IM LOOSING MY MONEY! I've contacted them and they said :
"Hi Robert,
Please do check with bank as the service has not been paid for, only the domain was paid for. Your account is due in October for renewal. When you can please contact me on [protected] to make payment.
Regards
Philip"
what is complete ###! in reply I showed them my bank statement which SHOWS that the invoice was PAID. in reply from them:
Dear Sir,
Your account has not been blocked or cancelled I have again asked the finance team to look into our banks for the payment and they will come back to me. If you have problems logging into your account or uploading you would need to speak to our support team
BUT MY EMAIL ADDRESS ISNT WORKING STILL. So in the past 6 months I've lost who knows how many clients and how much money!
DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!
F8CKIN ROBBERS!
It looks like we are all getting the same treatment, so let's give them "10" for consistency.
This company is total crooks, I signed up for one contract never used their services because they were shockingly bad and customer services would keep me on the line for over one hour and failed to resolve my problem and then recharged me 150 GBP the next year without signing up for two year contract. Scam 100% avoid it!
I Completely agree with all the comments here.I am also a victim myself.I simply got a leaflet through my door after registering with company house for a 20Pounds domain name for one year.I decide to give it a trial by registering for a domain name but i discovered that it was not valued added to my business after few days and stop using it..After the second year they send me a receipt of 118pounds meaning they took money from my personal account with my authorization.I made several attempt to get my money back but was told that i was in two years contract. At the third year they invoice me demanding payment of 130 pounds which i completely disagree.Told my bank to dissallow payment from Switch media. They have called me on the phone asking for payment and threatening to pass my detail to third party if i refuse to pay.I am still in the process of taking them to court myself
