I've been working at STC for about 3 months now and I can honestly say it is the WORST place to work. I have never been treated so unfairly by any of my past employers. The hours suck & the rate of pay is terrible, might I add that there are several girls that work with me that have been there for a few weeks & make more than I do. The district manager, Amy(she calls herself "The bomb.com"), is nothing but a complete b***h to everyone, including the clients. I'm sorry but snapping your fingers while shouting out demands, calling your employees "lazy" and "stupid", and throwing hissy fits & throwing binders across the salon, screaming "I'M OVER IT!" is NO WAY to treat your employees. And she was just promoted to DISTRICT MANAGER! Wow, way to go STC! You have yourself a winner! I'm sorry, but I do not get paid enough to put up with that kind of treatment. Yes, the employees get to tan for free & get great discounts, but I promise you it is not worth it. I cannot count on both hands how many girls have actually walked out & quit because of Amy. She is nothing but a fake, Jersey Shore wannabe piece of trash. I have heard her tell other Salon Directors to write an employee up for no reason at all, "but to make it seem like its for a good reason so I can get rid of her." She has an issue with not liking certain employees, including myself, so she personally picks on them & makes them do the most degrading things. I was actually just told by a fellow employee of mine that she is trying to get rid of me simply because "she does not like me." Not to mention, she bends & breaks several rules at STC. Employees are not allowed to tan between the hours of 4 pm & 8 pm because those are the busiest times of day. Amy will just enter herself manually through the T-Max system, grab a bottle of lotion off the shelf & take it to her tanning room, then when she is done, puts it back on the shelf for someone to buy! So I would just like to say Amy, the day you fire me will also be the day I kick your fake a** followed by me spitting in your face.
Also, if you do not sell a lotion, you get punished, written up, & more than likely fired. You are constantly under pressure & being criticized about selling anything & everything in the salon, which I understand is how they make their money, but NO ONE wants to buy a lotion every single time they come in! Especially if they had just bought one the day before, seriously who has money to spend like that EVERY single day?! If I didn't work there & was just a regular client, I would NEVER want to go in there just because they are SO pushy about lotions & other products! I personally am not a person like that & I cannot stand people who are. STC will go above & beyond when trying to trick their clients into buying products, like lying to you & telling you what YOU want to hear about a lotion or any of the products. For instance, several girls at my store will tell you they use Luminary or Blend Face or the UV teeth whitening system just so the client will buy it! If they spent half as much on actually paying us a good rate of pay as they do on our stupid "training seminars" the story might be a little different, but its not! My point being is NEVER work at Suntan City, especially in Knoxville, TN, unless you want to work the worst hours for minimum wage & get treated like you are a slave by the biggest, fakest ### in Tennessee!

I worked at the one in Knoxville (Fointain City) and I feel the exact same way! I was hired of full time, and the first 2 weeks I got a solid 40 hrs. After that I was getting 2-3 days a week, and usually was told to go home cause we were slow or they just didn't need me that day. However, after they sent me home, my mom would stop in to tan and they would have a line 20 people long out the door.
I for one, am not a great salesman. But the job I have now is in sales, and do damn good at it. But you're right, they expect you to make "valid suggestions" to every single customer, no matter when they bought their last item. My salon director was a total ### as well, and as for the DM, ###! The girls I worked with we're super super sweet, except for one, but I guess you can't expect everyone to be cool. I got fired from there because I asked off for a concert and got someone to cover my shift, and they didn't show. Thought it was ###, because I had never been late or called in or missed work or anything. Oh well, the only thing I miss was the free tanning.
Yes... that 23 year old who thinks she is a manager! The one who obviously has had NO management training what so ever! Shes the only one dumb enough to take a job making nothing and has to travel back and forth from state to state and live on the road. What an exciting life...NOT! I'm sure she doesn't make squat either since none of the other employees at Sun Tan City hardly even make enough to eat on. That's why shes pissed all the time! She takes her anger and frustration out on young college girls because it makes her feel big. Amy...girl you need to attend some management classes and learn how to treat employees. I am sure your employer will be hearing from the labor board real soon. Busted! Get your ### off your shoulders and learn how to be a leader with some class.
DON'T WORK AT SUN TAN CITY N BIDDEFORD MAINE either! You are written up for the smallest issues no matter how good of an employee you are. AND the employee that calls out all the time and is always late but there numbers are high so they can get away with it...THE Manager is has her head stuck right up the district mangers ###! The store numbers in biddeford have never been so low until LISA started running it. She is 50 and tries to act like a 20 year old. She can not train her employees at all. she can't handle it always tans the least amount of people so her ppta stays up. I have never been trained so awful in my life. VERY thourough by reading a big binder but that is it. She stays clocked in and leaves the salon all the time. NOT TO MENTION leaves new people there by themselves and when they have not been throughly trained writes them up for things. I have heard from numerous employees there they left because of her and many empoyees transfer. She does not have a good attitude and no drive. how aree her employees suppose to?
