Suburban Services Inc. / Dirty business rip off

1 United States Review updated:

I am a contract satellite television installer in the Metro Memphis, TN area. May 28, 2002 I started doing installs for Suburban Services (Referred to as Suburban from here on). I had one day of in office training, followed by a training day in the field. Since that training day, until Monday July 29, I had completed every single work order that passed thru my fax machine, and also I completed jobs that were added onto my route through-out the day. When my paycheck was actually ahead one pay period,

I thought I better bring that information to the attention of the office manager, her name is Laura, she actually told me if I didn't like it, quit. Well I didn't like it so I did quit. I know me being a contractor limits my rights as a human being in the work-place, and know they will not cut me a check, they still owe me approx.$2,000. I have none of their equipment, nor do I owe them any money for tools, or back-charges. The owner of the company, Roger Ayers, will not return my call.

Please help me help all other contractors to steer clear of companies that are here today and gone tomorrow. I am going to ask my local congressman to try and lobby some type of rights for sub-contractors. I wish you the best of luck in trying to reach these people or even have them return your call.

Suburban services inc. Is not a good company to work for. I want to have some info for job hunters out there thinking about working for suburban services. To be able to informed choices. If I would have had this info It would have sent red flags off in the interview. I don't feel I need to tell you not to work for them but just think about the things I say here before you take there job offer.

My reasons not to work for them are:

    1. It is not uncommon to work 12 hours for 150.00 then take 10 out for there Insurance 10% 150 is $15.00 then the gas that you used that day. avg $ 20. a day and also taxes you must pay. so lets say you pay $20. in taxes.. You take take home $95. You just made a big $7. an hour

    2. Ever check they "back charge" for your errors/ when you quit you will not get your last 2 checks do to all of the back charges. Now that $95. is about $80. you took home for the day. You just made $6. hour if you were lucky.

Suburban services inc. are the worst. I not sure how they are still in good graces with Dish Network. Maybe Dish treats there employees the same way. Ahhh rednecks and there racing cars. I love the fact that Suburban services never comes in first.

Let's talk about Suburban Services, Inc. customer service.

I have Dish Network, who uses Suburban Services as there in -the -field tech support. After experiencing several issues with satellite reception due to either cabling/dish/receiver which could not be resolved over the phone with in-house dishnet tech....Dish Network decided to send an outside in- the -field tech to investige and resolve the issues. Dish Network put me on hold while they called Suburban Services and scheduled an appointment. After informing me of the appointment time I asked who would be coming out to my home. Dish Network would not allow me to know the tech or company or phone number(company policy)! I was to wait for a call.

Since we have 2 accounts(diff. states) with Dish Network, I made absolutely sure before hanging up that they gave the correct phone numbers to the "unknown" company to confirm the scheduled appointment. Scheduled day came and went with no phone call or in-the-field tech. I called Dish Network the following day, again making sure phone numbers were correct on the work order, and waited on hold while they called "unknown" company to verify correct phone numbers and to find out what happened with the tech. I also asked (actually, demanded)Dish Network to have this "unknown" company give me a call immediately to confirm new scheduled time. Dish Network relayed my request while I was placed on hold...but, the call never came. Oh,and again, I ask for the name of this "unknown" company and their phone number, but to no avail..."company policy!"

Now, it is the day before new RE-scheduled time. I called Dish Network saying I have not received a confirmation call. Again, Dish Network called this "unknown" company while I was placed on hold, and relayed back to me that "unknown" company makes confirmation calls between 5pm and 9pm the night before scheduled day. (I still have no idea at this time who the "unknown" company is that will be supposedly showing up at my door....if at all!) Sure enough, a call did come between those hours....HOWEVER, not at my residence where we were experiencing the problems, but at our other residence in a different state!!!! The phone message left was to call their "800" number..and YES...finally the name of the "unkown" company....Suburban Services, Inc. located in VA.

Excitedly I call the "800" that evening at 8pm (remember their hours are to 9pm), but after staying on hold for 29 minutes with the "800" number with a ridiculous recorded tape message to either "stay on hold because of their high call volume or call back later", I finally gave up very frustrated. So, I decided to do a Google search on the "800" number which brought up the company name, location, hours or operation, LOCAL number and this complaint board. Following morning (8am) I call "800" number once again with the same results. I then call the LOCAL number listed on Google and immediately got a human voice....a lady in customer service. Hey, I'm feeling lucky at this point..a human voice!!!! YIPPEE!!

I inform her who I am and all the details that have transpired over the last two weeks.etc. She now can't find me in her system! Grrrrr!!! After discovering she did not have the right contact numbers for the state we were having the issues, she then found me under our other account.

In all fairness, this is not HER fault, but she does work for Suburban Services in their customer service department. Not only was she not sympathetic, but wanted to argue with me and prove how right she was in her explanations of all the communication problems, etc. This is not the right type of person for customer service. Also, she informed me there was not a tech for my area! WHAT???!!!! Does Dish Network know this? plus, other questions that I directed to her. She then says this is not Dish Network's problem and she will need to FIND a tech who can fit us into their schedule. I just need to sit and wait on a phone call back from her to see IF she can work something out. HUH?!

This is not acceptable as I have no idea when or if, I will ever get a call. I proceeded to call a local tech, which I will have to pay ....but, it will be well worth it. No wonder there are other complaints with this company, mainly from their own techs about not be treated fairly. This is a true reflection of this company. It starts with the owner and trickles down to the employees to the customer. If the employees are not happy and argumentative...then there will not be any customer satisfaction. Go to their web site (company name) and read their goals at the bottom of their Home page!

I worked for Suburban Services in Asheville, NC. I worked for 12 weeks. In those 12 weeks more than 12 people quit. I have been in contact with 5 of them. Suburban Services has not paid me the 3,800 that they owe me. The others that I am still in contact with are also in the same place I am. We added up that Suburban Services owes the 5 of us 12,436. I can only guess how often this happens.

Very unhappy with this fly by night group.

Suburban Services really is a crappy company to work for. I thank them for the training I have received from working for them, but not the experience I have had while working for them.

First they do not pay there techs well enough, when they would pay at all.

suburban would pay 75 for a 4 room install, company im with now 125 for a 4 room.

Suburban will charge you so much for equipment its ridiculous.

WORST COMPANT OUT THERE CAUTION KEEP AWAY!!!

I worked for Suburban Servives about 5 years ago. My chief complaint was not getting paid for the work performed. Usually you get paid extra for any additional work beyond a complete one room install. I have had quite a few jobs where I would install 3 and 4 room setups. But because Suburban Services had a hard and fast rule that a install tech had to complete 12 jobs or more a week in order to get paid for the extra installation work. And they made sure no one (except Roger's family members) got more than 11 jobs per week no matter how much you begged for more work. And they made sure those 11 jobs included extra installation work. Dish would pay Suburban Services for the extras, but Suburban would not pay the subcontractors. Basically Suburban Services ripped off it's own subcontractors. They owe me more than $8, 000.00 in lost extras

So anybody out there looking for work stay away from this company. You'll get the work but not the money for your efforts.

And I must add that Dish Network is a Fine company, I don't have any complaints with them. Just Suburban Services.
