Stevens Moving & Storage Moving Scam UPDATE

UPDATE: I sued in small claims court in the County of Nevada, CA(where I moved to) and won my case for $1770.00, the defendant didn't show up to court, nor did he appeal within the 30 days allotted. I have process served Eran Bar, the Agent for Service of Process. He goes by Ron Bar and was served at 422 Queens Lane, San Jose, CA 95112. His email address is [protected]@yahoo.com, his cell number is [protected], other numbers are [protected], and [protected].. His dba's are run through their official corporation as C H S Transportation Inc (be sure to put a space between the letters when looking it up at the California Business Portal for the Secretary fo State Debra Bowen), his rating with the BBB is F. Through my research he has gone by the following DBA's; S Van lines at www.svanlines.com, Stevens Moving & Storage, www.stevensmove.com, R1 moving & storage at www.getapacker.com, Better way to Move at www.betterwaytomove.com, and also We are moving relocations. Notice a couple of the sites are templates and look the same, with different names and numbers, and ring to the same location! I have noticed also he advertises for workers on several Israeli web sites. This man has been doing this for years, I have seen complaints dating back to 2006. He must be stopped from doing business this way, and I hope you'll help by suing him for what he did to you too!

Same scam happened to me by these guys. Is this some kind of Jewish Russian mafia? The head mover that showed up was Russian, but when I heard him speaking on the phone with Ron it he was speaking in Hebrew. I speak 6 languages and can pick up words and accents to identify at least another 20 languages, so I thought that was intereting listening to Hebrew spoken with a Russian accent. I spoke with Ron on the phone to complain but of course that was going nowhere quick, so I hung up on him. I can speak Spanish fluently, so I asked the 2 Honduran and 1 Mexican day laborers that accompanied the Russian Jew, and they said this always happens and sometime they drive off with people's goods and take them to a wherehouse. The clients always fight with the driver and Ron on the phone. I called the Sacramento City Police, but they wouldn't get envolved because it was a "civil matter." So all my goods were held hostage and the Russian Jew extorted 3 times the quoted price out of me. From what I'm reading it could have been worse. Has anyone thought of filling charges with the district attorney's office, or is that a waste of time? So, how do you put someone like this in prison or at least out of business?

Stevens Moving & Storage Moving Scam

This company made a good-faith bid to me for a one-bedroom move and promised a less than 3 hour move (20 minutes from one house to the other). They slow-walked the move and took 7 hours to load the truck (then I was charged double that for unload). They charged me an additional $1994 for bubble wrap and packing tape. The 3 movers from the company constantly glared at me and made derogatory remarks in Spanish about gay people and I couldn't wait to get them out of my house. There was a safety factor to take into consideration, in addition to the illegal costs they charged me, and these guys need to be out of business.

Research before the move at BBB/San Jose showed no complaints for 'Stevens Moving' but I found out later that this company keeps changing it's name to avoid detection: they also operate as "A Better Way 2 Move" and many other names, all have same parent company: CHS Transportation. CHS Transportation had lost it's license on 10/13/2017 and was not a legal mover at the time of my move.

If you have been scammed by this mover, notify the CA Attorney General's office, Fraud Division, CA Public Utilities Commission and the BBB of Santa Clara County and the BBB of San Jose. These guys need to be put in jail.

Check your moving company's parent owner, if it's CHS Transporation, do not use the mover.

I have been scammed by these guys, too, and sent them a certified letter a week ago. The Post Office just returned it to me (unopened). Maybe they're finally out of business? The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration pulled their license on 12/10/2017.

My e-mailed quote was 3 men/$80 plus $20 fuel surcharge with a 3 hour minimum. I spoke with Mike two times on the phone; I emailed him an Excel file of my belongings and again verbally told them what belongings I had to move. I had two calls with Mike assuring me my one-bedroom move would take 3 hours. They slow-walked the move and took from 9 am to 7 pm to move my belongings 20 minutes from one house to the other. They charged me $1994 for packing tape and bubble wrap. After negotiating $400 from the bill, my move cost me more than $2700. Do not do business with this company. The three men who moved my belongings kept referring to me, in Spanish, as a [censored] and queer; they didn't know I spoke Spanish.

Horrible, worst move ever. Very dishonesst, way underqouted us. We were qouted 451 dollars for a local move 14.4 miles away and then were charged 1600 dollars! They promised 10 warddrobe boxes for free and only brought 4, 1 of which was wet and moldy. they ended up collapsing under the weight of the clothes which wouldnt have happened had tehy brought enough. They promised reassembly after tbreaking stuff down and instead after being paid drove off! Only one of the 4 men spoke any english and it was not very good. Such a scam, you get movers to make things go smoother and so you dont have to do much but we ended up having to put away our own stuff and put items together. And for 1600 dollars! Outrageous.

This was the best move I have ever had because they made it seem easy. Moving is not easy, I have used movers about ten times, and there are always moments of anxiety. Not so with Stevens moving. They made the whole experience seem like a walk in the park.

On the phone and giving a quote, Sean was uncommonly patient, respectful, organized and low pressure. He gave me the time to collect my scattered thoughts and figure out what I really needed. I moved three times with movers who were "five-stars" on-line, and stevens moving put me most at ease.

The movers were fantastic. Punctual, respectful, fast as hell. They didn't grunt and groan like most movers, they cheerfully did stuff they hadn't expected to do (removed a light fixture so my couch could fit out the old door, figured out how to disassemble/reassemble my Ikea furniture, did a long haul at the new house when the truck didn't fit down my driveway). They were amazingly mellow about having to double-park their truck, and didn't run roughshod over my apartment.

Most movers won't do the stuff you ask them to do, complaining all the way. I personally find it very uncomfortable to have to boss around big, burly men who are resentfully doing their job. Not so with stevens moving's Callum, Paul and Nico. They proactively did things, and never made it seem hard. Usually I tip movers because I feel bad after they have appeared to struggle all day. With stevens, I gave the boys great tips because they made it seem so easy.

The price here is on the lower side, but in the end it cost less than others had quoted due to their astounding speed. When you also factor in the "no stress" factor, these guys are a bargain!

The reason i posted here and i will probably do the same in a couple of other sites, is the fact that i read some negative reviews about this company after they moved me and i then called their manager to ask how it is even possible, he said that their competitors post fake reviews on line to get more business this way, he said it's a "zoo" out there, how sad is that? i feel sorry for those companies, stevens just do it better.

We had our move this Saturday and I could not believe what happened. First of all Daniel (the lead) comes in with all this paperwork and shows me all these additional packing charges. While yes I do see there may be additional packing material charges I had no idea until my stuff was held hostage that tape and shrink wrap would cost over 1000.00 and be nearly half the bill. I was quoted $568.58 plus the additional 5% charge for fuel of 29.92 for a 5 hour loading and unloading and an additional hour and half for travel time. I was charged 2279.20. The total time for loading and unloading was 6.5 hours so that is only 1.5 hours more than what you had estimated so you can see the surprise in the final bill.

Also when Daniel came in he would not give me any kind of idea how much the additional packing would cost. I tried getting an understanding of the packing estimates but he would not even give me any ideas. He finally did say that each piece that had glass in it would be around 50.00 a piece, based on that I choose to move all the glass and mirrors myself. I also told him to advise me when anything was going to cost extra. He only did this for 3 items tv, tv stand and 4 chairs. However again he did not give me any idea how much he would charge to pack those items. The TV alone was nearly 300.00. I could have rented a truck and moved the tv myself for the packing they put around it. If some of these items were going to cost extra to wrap the blankets on the wood furniture I communicated that to be identified and I would decide it was not until my stuff was in your truck.

Further more I feel they really took me as they shirk wrapped items that did not need to be wrapped such as metal bed rails and a office chair with plastic with no pads. Why bother using the shrink wrap on those items how was that going to protect the item it wasn't it was allowing them to charge me for it. I had boxed everything (As my boyfriend is a warehouse manager and has access to boxes, shrink wrap and tape) and took the beds apart the only item they had to take a part was a desk that they could not get out without disassembling part of it. While I was assuming the cost would be higher than the estimate (specifically the travel time) I was not made aware that it would be anywhere near what it was again until my stuff was in their truck and it was made very clear it would stay there until I paid what was demanded.

I had four other bids all of which were 1200.00 to 700.00 less than what my final bill was.

I called them on Saturday but no one returned my call. I emailed Mike the person that sent me the quote on Monday and have not heard back from any of the emails I sent to him.

Similar to another complaint on this board, I was significantly overcharged by $800 for packing materials, namely shrink wrap. Items were wrapped that didn’t need to be, and I was charged $25 PER ITEM for shrink wrap. Wrapping the item in a blanket and taped would have been fine, but they insisted on using shrink wrap. That’s the scam they use to overcharge you. Also, I was charged the additional time it took to shrink wrap the items which added an extra two hours to the move or $260.

THEY ARE SCAMMERS. They tried to hold another customer’s furniture hostage until she paid the inflated bill. Luckily she called the San Jose police and was able to get her stuff at the price quoted. Unfortunately, the San Jose Police impounded their truck with my stuff in it since they didn’t have proper license, registration, or insurance. I had to rent a U-Haul and go get my furniture in San Jose and move it to San Francisco. To top it off, I am missing items and they won’t reimburse me for the lost items.

Don’t use Stevens Moving & Storage. They also go by Stevens Move and Advanced Moving & Storage. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!

There is truelly no justice if these extortionists have been getting away with this for years. Have their been no results from the Attorney General's Office?

Considering there are MULITIPLE people with the same major complaints...I'm inclined to believe them over the one person who had a good experience. I am one of the complainers who the company refuses to respond to. I will admit the grunt guys were very curteous...unfortunately only one of them spoke any english. My main issue was with the guy in charge of the crew who was lazy, and basically just handled the paperwork...why am I paying for 4 men when only three are working? So when you're looking at quotes realize you're not getting a 4 man crew, you're getting only 3, with one lazy annoying "leader". This was the MOST uncomfortable move in my experience, they left marks on walls and stains on the carpet, but make you sign that everything is fine before they actually complete the work. Lots of paperwork that should have been given to me before hand, including packaging material costs. They showed up 45 minutes early at 7:15 AM, and I was barely dressed before they came barging into our home without even knocking or asking permission to begin early. I paid almost double my quote, and yes was made to pay cash, and was only given some halfhazard receipt. But my biggest peeve was that they completely filled to overflowing out trash and recycling cans at our old house with "extra" packaging materials that I had to pay for. And since we weren't going to be around for the next trash day I had already canceled our trash service. So I had to call and request an additonal pickup which I find out costs more than an entire months worth of pickups, as well as go to the house the day before to put the trash cans out for pickup. Talk about unneeded hassles. Buying your first place and moving is hassle enough I dont need to pay a moving company for more! Big mistake!

We delt with a company called Advanced Moving and Storage, also know as BGT Transportation at 422 Queens Lane, San Jose Ca. It was a NIGHTMARE! Daniel also showed up and after 1/2 of the truck was loaded he started telling us about all these "Extra" charges. $1300.00 to be exact! Stuff that was in no need of wrapping and used a ton of tape. They also had a truck that was too small and tied our furniture on the back of the truck! I have pictures. They also were jumping up and down on it. Never produced a weigh slip and took was longer to deliver than told. We called the next day and the phone numbers on the contract were DISCONNECTED! Finally things showed up in our new state with a different non-licensed company and they damamded $4000.00 more in cash before they would even unlock the door. We called the police they came out and after a few hours of the driver and "Eric" in San Jose going back and forth on the phone the police made them get the stuff off the truck. It was DAMAGED and a lot was stolen. It looks like they dropped the refrigerator off a two story building. We also ended up with peoples boxes that we don't know. The driver then proceeded to spill his guts to the police about what a scam it is. We have called DOT, FBI, San Jose Police, IRS, and everyone else we can think of. DO NOT USE THESE SCAMMERS! Eric told everyone over speaker phone thanks to his driver that he was the "Isreali Mofia and we didn't know who we were messing with". These people are being investigated by the FBI.

I agree! They totally ripped me off too with shrink wrapping and taping items that did not need it done. My bill was 2X's the amount they quoted me and the manager in the local San Jose office was a real jerk. It was even worse because I felt like he was treating me with total disrespect mainly because I'm a woman and he felt he could get away with it. I would discourage everyone I know from ever using their services!

Thanks for posting your horror story on this website and /link removed/ I ahd almost signed them up for an upcoming local moce, but after reading your experience, I have decided not to engage them. (And I called them and told them so!) Maybe this will force them to improve their business practices.
