STEVE ALTMAJER / BEWARE OF STEVE ALTMAJER

1 Monroe, NJ, United States

We hired Steve Altmajer to install hardwood floors in our office room. I found him on craigslist, he sounded very knowledgeable and convincing, so we hired him. This was supposed to be a 1 day job costing $500. He asked for a deposit of $250 on the first day while writing the contract ( hadn't even started working). I told him that we will give him the money the day he starts but he said that he would need it to buy material. We paid him the money. He came following day and ripped off the carpet and took my husband's help to move the furniture. He said he would come the following day to install the wood but didn't come. On repeated phone calls, he sent a guy to install the wood. The guy installed it but did a very poor job. He asked for $200 for the work he had done. I called Steve and told him that since my contract is with him and the money is due on completion of the job, I would only give him money but he requested to give it to the guy( I also felt bad for the guy who actually deserved the money since he had done work, although not a good one).Steve promised that he would come the next day and finish up remaining work like installing show molding, painting it, putting the furniture back etc. So we gave the guy $200. But Steve never turned up. He kept on giving excuses one after the other ( someone died in the family, he had pneumonia, even after recovering from it he went to do someone else's job). He kept on lingering me for 2 weeks. I even purchased the molding which he was supposed to buy. Finally I got fed up from it since my whole house was in a mess and I hired another contractor who came the next day and finished the entire work.Ultimately, Steve took $250 for ripping up carpet !! Our job was small and it was not even that much money but the stress and mental tension that Steve led us to was just too much ...calling him everyday, leaving a voice mail, waiting for him to call back...stressful!!I hope that you don't fall to his trap after hearing my story.

Basically a big lesson : NEVER WORK WITH STEVE ATLMAJER, HE IS A RIP OFF !!
