State Farm claim processing

I am a long-term customer of State Farm. I have numerous policies including homeowners, 4 autos, business rental property, personal liability umbrella and many jewelry and art items under a personal articles policy.

Unfortunately life happens and my ex-wife and I separated in June of 2016. During the separation, 2 pieces of jewelry were lost. I don't have them and my ex-wife claimed not to have them either. When the divorce was finalized in July of 2017, it was apparent that the watch and bracelet had mysteriously disappeared. I contacted State Farm and filed a claim in July.

Things started off well and an adjusted contacted me, asked for the details and agreed that a police report was not needed and that my policy did indeed include mysterious disappearance and that I would hear back shortly about the claim. The next day I was given a list of jewelers to chose from to get an estimated replacement cost. I did this and things were moving along smoothly.

Then I received a call from Ms King from the Special Investigative Unit. She left me a voicemail to call her. I did and was told that she was so busy that I needed to book an appointment to have a detailed interview about the loss, but that she couldn't accommodate me for a couple of weeks. I booked the appointment. I was also told that a claim form and affidavit of loss were being dropped in the mail to me that day and that both would be needed to move forward on my claim.

Over the next two weeks, I did not receive either form in the mail. Ms King did contact me at our scheduled time and did conduct her interview. The questions were redundant, but I understand there is a process to follow.

At the end of the interview, I informed Ms King that I had still not received any of the forms that were apparently mailed out two weeks prior. Ms King assured me she would ensure they were sent.

About two weeks later, after several unreturned calls, I was able to reach Ms King so I could tell her that I had still not received the forms. She told me she was surprised and that she would email them to me right away. Why she couldn't have emailed them to me earlier, I don't know. I completed the forms and returned them the next day.

Then I heard nothing. Over the next several months, I received no communication at all. I left numerous voicemails and never were they returned. Ironically, the jeweler that State Farm had recommended, kept in touch with me. Every couple of weeks she would touch base with me. It was through her that I learned that State Farm was actually waiting for me to provide a copy of my divorce settlement. Once I sent that in to the generic claims email, I was hoping to hear something back. About a month later, the jeweler called and said she had learned that they were waiting now for proof of ownership. I asked why they didn't call me to tell me what they needed and she had no idea. I also asked why they needed proof of ownership when they had a receipt for the watch and a jewelers appraisal already on file? The jeweler didn't know either. So I left numerous additional calls for Ms King as well as making about 20 other calls where I didn't receive a call back. To be fair, Ms King did call once and left me a voicemail (this is now Feb timeframe - about 6 months into the claim). I then received to letters on the same day, dated the same day that said different things. One of the letters said I needed to provide a copy of the original receipt in order for the claim to move forward. The jeweler helped me track down the jewelry store in Hawaii and I was able to get a copy.

I submitted this receipt even though I couldn't understand why they needed it. Can they really right a policy based on an appraisal (which is what they asked for) and collect premiums but not acknowledge the appraisal as proof of ownership to pay a claim?

I expected to hear something back from Ms King. I did not. I called at least twice and sometime four times a day. No response. I couldn't find where to complain to. I called my agent and was told they would inquire on my behalf and that I should here something back shortly. I did not.

Finally my agent provided me with a name that was reported to be Ms King's supervisor. I called Dan Dellert several times and left a message explaining 5e situation and that I wanted to file a complain and that I would appreciate a call back. I never received one.

I was finally able to reach Ms King and she told me that I needed to have one final call to have an exit interview. Several weeks later, Ms King and I had our exit call which last 3 minutes where she told me that she was going to make a recommendation to management and that she would get back to me with their decision. I informed her that I wanted a call back within a week and that I had tried to file a complain about all the delays. She was unimpressed.

A week and a day later she called and said 5e claim was approved. Only then did she tell me that the reason for the investigation was that my ex-wife had filed a previous claim (even though it was a very small one).

When it was all said and done, over 8 months elapsed for the claim. During the process no one from State Farm was responsive or helpful. We paid a lot of money in premiums each year and expected good service. Instead, it was one of the worst customer service experiences of my life.

Because of the poor service, lack of responsiveness from Ms King and Dan Dellert, because of the lack of communication and policy that required proof of ownership over what was provided when the policy was written. Because I could not find anyone to complain to I became frustrated and disgruntled with State Farm. I have now moved all my insurance to another company.

State Farm claim number: [protected] claim date: 3.2.2018

State Farm
To whom it concerned
Claim Number: [protected]
Claim Date: 3.2.2018

My car had crashed on 3.2.2018, due to English is my second language, I didn't understand what the dispatcher meant " property" at that time, and told the 911 that no property damage at the scene
Since then, I had not just experience physically suffering and especially mentally depress, stress. Loss of short term memories and fearfulness and etc,

Furthermore, most difficulty, is to contact State Farm. as you can review my records phone calls, and emails, almost every little things. It's hard to get it down with state farm.
I am really depressed now more than even

The back quarter panel was so hard to get paid by my adjuster Bonnie, finally approved by the photos that I lucky to have after long battles

Now the Blue Star body shop found right hand passenger door with tint, but my adjuster simply denied it again even without review the photos at the scene and arrived at Blue star body shop. This is very unprofessional and presumption. It just happened like the left quarter panel claim

I believe your inspector must have taken pictures of the entire right side and left side of the car as a professional inspector. The presumption has to be that the car on the right side was undamaged. Because if it were damage present they would have photographed it for sure. If they do not photographed the right side that means it was clean was normal without damage.
So for you to deny the damaged on the right side was pre-existing and that you have deny it, it's nonsense. Because they took custody of that car and was out of my hands they would have photographed damage on the right side if there was damage there.
The reason you did not take photographs of the right side because there was nothing wrong with it. you cannot tell me now that the damage was pre-existing and not related to this collision to deny the claim.

The reason we know this is if there was damage present on the right side they would have photographed it and said this is unrelated to the accident and State Farm not paying for it. It' not relevant.
It's it's another possibility, your inspect must have photographs and showing that there's no damage to that car on the right side, otherwise, your inspect certainly didn't do a through inspection
Looking forward to hearing from you
Flora

State Farm not being paid, getting run around

Case #133181R83. That I've not gotten paid and keep being told the check was sent. No check has ever come or came. The worst customer service and lack of concern for the customer. I was at work and my car was hit in parking lot. I was not even driving it was parked in parking space. Insurance adjuster came looked at car. Gave him my home address. So to State Farms stupidity they said they sent check to work. Check never came. So supposedly they resent check on 03-13-18 to home address( or so they say) said 7-10. Days. 10 days have passed no check. It don't take that long for mail to go from New York to California. Had to call 3-4 Times a day. Still being lied to about check. Awful funny two checks sent and yet I have received ditto, nada, nothing, zilch. Never in my life have I had to deal with such stupidity and ignorance from customer service. Yes I go snappy Sith them gave them a few unkind words and even yelled. Had someone took responsibility for the screw up instead of telling me wait a couple more days, go online put your bank account # their ( so I can get ripped off . To many hackers out there). I think I have been more than patient and waited long enough to be paid when it's not my fault.

State Farm lack of support

Our home suffered water damage on February 10th, 2018, which has resulted in the gutting of our kitchen. My husband and his family have had the same agent, Tyler Evans for over 30 years. Aside from a couple of small auto claims we have never had to use our policy for anything major. We are extremely disappointed in the way that we have been treated during this process. We have not had a kitchen in over a month and there is not end in site, our agent has not fully disclosed the benefits of our policy during this time and has offered no help. I also do daycare out of my home which as caused a huge disruption for everyone. We are making it work but it is extremely difficult. We have had challenges with our adjustor as well...there is very little communication and a lack of empathy towards our situation. I wonder how if would affect them if they were in our shoes. The water damaged is extensive and we have had to have asbestos removed and there is nothing left of our kitchen. After searching for a fair, honest and reliable contractor, we found one the we trust. We have old cabinets and our refridgerator on our deck, covered with a tarp, the adjustor has not offered to remove them or even acknowledge that they are there. There has not been one ounce of reassurance from anyone from State Farm that things will be ok...they do not have our back and have treated us poorly. We don't even know if we will get reimbursed for meals out and State Farm has not offered to assist with lodging should we need to be out of our home. We were under the impression that State Farm would have our back and that is certainly not the case. With no end in site we are extremely frustrated and upset. Not to mention that we have a family member dying from stage 4 cancer so the stress level is extremely high. We would advise anyone looking into State Farm to choose another company.. again, we have had the same agent since my husband was 16 and he is 50 now. We are disgusted and appalled with the way that this situation has been handled. We were told it could be up to a year before we have a kitchen again.

State Farm emergency road service coverage

I've had coverage with State Farm Since 2012. My premium has gone up several times but I've always paid it and on time. My car started giving me problems so I call for a tow or whatever but I get letter for them in 2015 about my roadside assistance which is included in my coverage so I give them a call. They give me some lame excuse about a limited number of uses. But I'm still paying for it so why can't I use it. Now I've received another letter starting that effective May 15, 2018 my coverage will not include roadside service.

State Farm liability accountability, professionalism, refusal to pay claims

On Sept. 2nd, 2018, my children had just gotten on a moped and ridden approximately 4 houses away and when proceeding through a right of way, a State Farm customer either ran a stop sign or failed to yield to the road that did not have a stop sign. She drove out from the left in front of my children who did not have a stop sign into the interaection and when my children attempted to brake and turn to the right to avoid a head on collision they ended up colliding with the rear passenger side of her vehicle hit their front tire causing them to fall and the forks were bent. The damage was minimal and our mistake was not calling the police on their client... but even with a witness, State Farm is refusing to pay saying that while their client states she stopped, it was my children who should not have hit her vehicle when she recklessly drove out in front of them and that my children, who having the right of way, should have avoided the accident. Because the witness did not see her stop (meaning she may not have even done so, and their client said she did), State Farm thinks that my children, who no one disputes were traveling under the speed limit, were in the wrong because since they didn't end up as good ornaments and hit the rear passenger side of the door, that it's their fault. The witness stated that the driver of the car 'plowed over my kids. The witness also verified our story to Star Farm that their client repeatedly said "she was sorry" and that "she never even saw them". The witness also previously lied and said my kids were doing tricks and then ran into her while the witness (and my kids) dispute this. State Farm refuses to pay a claim for $206 because it is the right thing to do.
Today, 3/19/2018, the claims rep from the Maryland office, Delrene, had the audacity to tell me that while she wasn't sure how old my kids were (16 and 18), they needed to be more careful and safe driving.
No State Farm... you need to educate your reps on the rules of right of way, failure to yield, the ethics in paying out when it's right, that your client isn't always right... I was told if I found a witness who could verify the truth then I could win my claim. I searched tirelessly cause I knew I was right and that their client was lying. They know it too. Shame on State Farm. How can they say that a person who has the right of way is at fault? How do they tell people who were driving correctly and who tried to avoid a collision caused by someone else that it was their fault? Then, how do you attempt to lecture someone and tell them to have their children be more careful when operating a vehicle that they were operating correctly? Not paying out to people you owe is essentially fraud.

State Farm emergency service

Car broke down next to highway. First day above zero temp in a month. It is cold. This is wisconsin, not arizona. Called state farm and was told tow truck in an hour. An hour 15 minutes later tow driver calls to say "he can't make it". Call state farm again and they said they would get someone else. No one called. Two and a half hours later I call again. This time the tow will be there in an hour. Really? Wait for 3.5 hours? In the dark waiting for single digit temperatures? No you do not understand. You say you do but really you do not.

I crawled the car home. If it broke down again on the way I thought I could be close enough to walk home and ditch the car. The car is still not at the dealer where I can get it fixed.

I pay for emergency service. What am I paying for? Emergency service. I did get what I pay for.

To make it better you should tow the car from my house to the dealer. At my convenience.

State Farm auto insurance

I was a State Farm customer for over 60 years and had good agents. However, my auto insurance for my two cars over two years increased from 2015 to 2017 by about 40% or about $1340 for six months. So I changed insurance companies in August 2017. I decided to give State Farm another chance and went in for a quote in early January. I got the shock of my life when the agent said the six-month quote for my two cars would now be $4800! Apparently State Farm is trying to get out of the auto insurance business. I know that this have been very hard on their agents.

Anyway, they have lost me as a customer for life!

State Farm response to accident... malpractice?

On Sunday December 10th ...3:30 pm I was driving on the 238 exit off 580 South. I saw a sea of red lights fast approaching and hit my breaks. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw the car behind was not slowing and was gonna hit me. I tried to get my car onto the shoulder to minimize contact but there was a curb restricting the ability. I managed to get 3/5ths of the car off. Traffic was death defying...dangerous. Patrick Daniel Marchand, the driver immediately apologized. We exchanged information. No police came ...too scary to linger. I called my Insurance Company Progressive to inform them...claim # [protected]. i got them photos of the damage to them and estimates are coming in at $3500. He hit me going almost full speed and smashed in the rear panel 2". Trunk inoperable... Anyway, it seems the driver who hit me told a different story, (i wonder why), which apparently State Farm is backing 100% and I have been told the case is closed. Claim #[protected]. 40 years I have paying insurance and have never made a claim. Isn't Progressive supposed to make this RIGHT? Isn't State Farm's behavior bordering on mal-practice. Based on the testimony of the man who caused the accident the evidence is irrelevant? CHP tells me this is an open and shut case. I am a safe driver and therefore do not buy collision...So I'm screwed? They get away with this travesty of justice? I called Farmer's and left a voicemail and told them my intention to sue them and the driver. I got a call back from an underling of the case handler, saying its over...they are supporting their customer. Then she said "don't bother suing, we never have to pay". Then they call back, leave a voicemail...and say they need more info on my case before they can proceed. ? Strange NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE! I decided to not call back, fearing games I am unfamiliar with. I am also getting more headaches/ neck stiffness since the accident which I need to see my chiropractor about.

State Farm don't attend my calls

When I call them they don't answer my calls or when they do answer they just hang up. When I first got the insurance my deductible was 200.00 dollars and now it says that it is 500.00 dollars. Also a month ago I had a car accident and the person who hit my car is also a statefarm member. I was told that the insurance was going to cover for everything and that they were responsible for everything. Due to my injury I wasn't able to work for a week and now the insurance is saying that they don't want to pay for my hospital bill.

State Farm state farm auto insurance / claim division

Recently, my step daughter was hit from behind by a driver that was pulling into a gas station at a high rate of speed and probably not paying attention. My stepdaughter was slowly backing up at the time (as she is a safe driver... no accidents, no tickets, after logging 10, 000 plus miles). She was backing up after seeing that it was all clear, but she did not see the rapidly approaching vehicle that was turning into the lot (again at a high rate of speed). She heard a beep from the back-up camera's warning device and quickly stepped on the brake to stop (she was moving at approximately 2 miles per hour, backing away from a gas pump). The car that hit her was going somewhere between 15 and 20MPH or possibly more. There was damage to the back bumper of her van... minimal, but visible. Approx. $900 worth of damage. The women who hit my stepdaughter's van apologized profusely... and said she was "sorry for hitting her". She handed over her insurance card (also State Farm) to exchange information and then left the scene, and once again apologizing for the hitting her. My step-daughter called our insurance agent immediately from the site of the fender bender... to start a claim. And she also called my wife and I... and we were all on the line with her and our agent, as my stepdaughter gave a detailed statement about what had happened). It was a multi-way conversation and the agent said that it would be handled quickly and professionally. Then a State Farm agent called her later that day at the house to review her statement about what happened and take it for a second time. My wife and I are both witnesses to that phone call. My stepdaughter told the agent that she was very slowly backing up, 2 MPH.. with her foot on the brake...heard a beep, came to a quick stop and was hit from behind by car that came in at a high rate of speed. I thought it would be a quick resolution, but it was not. After weeks and numerous calls to various claim agents to find out about the status of the claim, State Farm agents claimed that my step daughter never gave a statement. They also said that she was at fault. But how could they determine fault if they claim she never gave a statement? So she had to call again and make a statement for a third time... and then, with another agent, for a fourth time over the phone. State Farm insisted that the liability of the accident was with my step-daughter; and insisted that I pay the $500 deductible as the van is insured under my name. I asked that they review the case given that she said she stopped and was hit from behind... and that the vehicle entering the gas station parking lot came in at a high rate of speed. The State Farm agent said they would look into it once my stepdaughter gave a statement about what happened for the record. Note that I am furious at this point as she had already given four statements to the claim agents. Weeks later, they had to interview her again (this time making a recording of her statement, as they said there was no record of a statement ever being given). then they informed me that her statement had not changed... This was odd, as they claimed that they had no prior statements. So, here we were, going on 7 weeks, and five statements given to agents... and still no definitive resolution. My stepdaughter had to call one more time and give yet another statement to a claim agent higher up in the corporate food chain... some sort of team leader. In the final analysis, State Farm insisted that the fault lie with the person backing up... even if they came to a stop, and even if they were hit from behind. That's Ridiculous!
Look, it's not about the money. I had been with State Farm for a long time (with three vehicles insured and a homeowners policy)-- a loyal customer for 35 plus years. I've paid in approximately a quarter of a million dollars in insurance premiums over that time, and had very few claims... peanuts... and paid my deductible without ever complaining. Given that my stepdaughter is relatively young and now had an accident, our insurance premium on the van just doubled... and after being a safe driver and having someone hit her from behind. Now she has an accident on her record. Unfair, especially for someone who worked so diligently to be a safe driver, completed driver education, and the State Farm safe driver program for young drivers.
In my opinion, State Farm Insurance is all about the money... but they will no longer get any of mine. I have switched companies and encourage others to do so. Buyer beware! Stay away from State Farm Insurance. Rates are much better elsewhere anyway. Try Geico, All State, Progressive or Farmers... they are all way better companies from what people tell me. Should have looked into that long ago. So many people have told me about their dealings with State Farm, and that they are a corporation that is money driven and money oriented.. They seem to care more about maximizing their revenues and profits than they care about people. My step-daughter an I feel that we were treated unfairly. We just want others to be aware... and beware! It was a horrible experience dealing with the Claim Division's incompetence.

State Farm insurance

My name is Katara Neely. My policy was cancelled due to issues, w my vehicle having to be fixed so I wasn't driving my truck. Once I got it fixed I had to pay the DMV a 50.00 fee because of the lapse (no problem there). And i called cus tomer service on 11/14/17, to get my car insurance reinstated and paid 239.00. I also asked the rep, would they send the DMV the SF-1 for proof of car ins, he said yes of course. So on 11/19/17 I checked my mailbox, and got a letter from the DMV that stating my license plate tag has no been REVOKED! So I call statefarm cust service, they tell me that the rep wasn't suppose to take payment, and I have no insurance policies! So I called my local agent on today 11/20/17 and they tell me the policy has to be rewritten and that it is now gone up to 305.00! Not to mention I have to wait 7/10 business days to get my 239.00 back. So I still have no insurance or money. I have a life and have a part time job, how am I suppose to get back and forth? Yes, the policy lapsing is my responsibility and I corrected it. But no one at statefarm is talking responsibility for this unprofessional mess! So what I would like to know who is going to fix my issue? All I've heard is Ms. Neely I'm sorry there is nothing we can do...wrong this company took my 239.00 so I will need for someone to figure it out! I paid for car insurance so that is what I expect. I do not work at statefarm so I do not know rules and regs, and apparently the cust service reps don't either. The blessing is I was never pulled over by the police, because had I been they would have impounded my car...for REVOKED tags. What kind of business y'all running? And I will keep talking about this until something is done. No the customer isn't always right...but in this situation YES I AM!

State Farm accident investigation

Hi Justin Hambly,

When I was talking to you, previously, I told you how I am now 64 years old...and have stayed with State Farm Insurance, for my entire life. And, I mentioned to you, that State Farm was a trusted company, which my parents, and their neighbors, also admired. And I stayed with you, as an agent, even 15 years after we moved away from Aptos, because we valued your setvice, and your integrity.

However, I am saddened to say, I am now cancelling my business with you...due to a string of total incompetence, lack of professionalism, and outright dishonesty...on the part of State Farm's claims investigators.

What it comes down to...is that these claims investigators were to lazy to do their jobs...and I am asked to pay for damages I couldn't have possibly caused...because your investigators were too lazy to even interview the primary suspect in the accident.

I am committed to spending some time, m every day, over the next month, pursuing this complaint.; State Farm will be laughed out of court, when they claim I somehow crashed myself, between 2 cars, for 50 minutes. I couldn't have done that! Nobody could have ever done that! Yet your lazy, and unprofessional agents were too lazy to even talk to the truck driver, who caused all of that damage.

It is clear, that the q2ualities of honesty and integrity, that my parents so admired, from State Farm, has gone straight down, and has been replaced by a culture of lazy agents...who like to sit behind their desks...and get paid for doing nothing!

State Farm renewal insurance process

I received a call yesterday on 7/13/2017 from the Ashley Collins - State Farm office telling me I would not have my home owners insurance policy renewed due to claims I have had. I am very disappointed in the way they handle this. I have not had any major claims with them until recently with the drain lines under the slab caused a water leak, which was something that was out of my control. When I spoke to them yesterday they informed me I had 2 claims within 5 years. 1 was a claim regarding my refrigerator I believe that was $400 that was 4 years ago. And unfortunately the recent one was est 12, 500.00 (leakage) under my slab. I am so disturb by this company treating me this way and I have been with them so many years with no existing claims since the ones I listed. I also have vehicle coverage with them as well and the same thing no claims they had to pay for to my knowledge over 15 years and this is how they treat you. Customer Satisfactory is definitely not their priority. I have been dealing with them for years and now I have to find someone to take over my insurance for my house. They did say they will not renew my primary insurance but they will keep insurance on my rental property and my vehicles. Really? Why would I want their business after they just disappointed me. I felt like they had me covered. They did cover majority of the bill but you drop me from home insurance after I done paid for insurance for over 10 years 2 claims. Out of over 10 years 2 claims. WOW I am blown away at this time disappointed and annoyed by their actions for someone that been with them so long. Even my car insurance over 15 years no claim. I get 2 claims and this is what they do to your long term customers, if you can help me I will appreciate it. The Agent: Ashley Collins - State Farm Insurance Agent. 1610 W. Friendly Ave Ste, B Greensboro, NC 27403 phone: [protected]

State Farm claims

First off let me say, State farm has been the worst insurance company EVER. I started services with them just about two months ago, I have been lied to mislead, and robbed of my money. I am now 21 years of age, just about 2 weeks ago I was only 20. I had to experience of purchasing a bran new car of my own with my money. I had finally did everything on my own and got insured through this so called company STATE FARM. I paid my down payment and got started, only to receive a letter from state farm informing me that they would no longer be insuring after June 12th of 2017. Reason I had not had my licenses solely for over a year (which is understandable) so I called the young lady who set me up with the policy and asked her if she was aware of the rule. She tells me "yes". So then at that point i asked her to cancel my policy and present me with my money back long story short, she refused and hung up on me. So I asked my sister to place me on her policy and he agree and then I had to pay for another down payment. Fast forward to June 6th, 2017 and I get into an accident. Called "State Farm" to cover it and they offered a company to repair and towed the car. fast forward today July 13th i get a call that they will not be covering my vehicle that was insure by them at the time of the accident that is would have to be my sister company. My car is in the shop and the company they referred me to, they claim they do not do business with them. Then she changed her mind and said they do do business with them but they will not be paying for any repairs on the vehicle. It is my deal with the insurance company. and they will not be paying. The rep. i spoke with was rude and when I asked a question miss Pat would not answer me and asked me a question on top of my question . She was located in phoenix Arizona and ID #upll. I requested to speak with her supervisor and she told me "NO". No sups available and said they would call me back and i told her no i needed to speak to someone now because statefarm has lost all creditabilty with my becasue everytime I speak to them they have lied or misrepresented themselves that i would need to speak to a sup. or we needed some resolution option he said no again and i asked her to hold on and she hung up on me. By far State Farm is the worst company to insure you car.

State Farm denied roof claim after sequential hali and wind storms

On April 17, 2017, a strong microburst of wind came through our neighborhood in Eastern Tucson, causing extensive roof damage to many homes. Mine, like others had part of the flat roof pulled up. Farmers, my new insurance company, inspected the roof and was concerned that the damage happened earlier. Upon State Farm's inspection, they denied the claim being that there was less damage than my 1% of home value ($2760) deductible. All of this was true.

However, when the Allphase roofing contractor began to repair the roof, it was clear that the hail storm on 09/12/16 (when the home was covered by State Farm) damaged the roof far worse than was initially determined. The hail storm created small 'spidered' cracks in both the flat roof and the shingled portion of the roof allowing moisture intrusion for a period of over 6 months. The sheeting and woodwork under the roofing slowly absorbed the moisture; essentially rotting the roof from the underneath - thus the reason the wind rolled the roofing up in the first place due to the "rotten" wood. During this whole time, no water intruded through the wood and attic insulation to give us a hint that there had been roof damage. When the hail storm occurred, I was in Kazakhstan on a 90 day contract and did not personally inspect the roof.

At this point, Allphase called State Farm for a re-inspection of the roof to which they chose not to respond. With impending storms and the roof partially stripped off, there was no choice but to continue with the repairs. The further the work continued, the more damage was realized. Eventually, sufficient damage was found to determine by both Allphase, my wife, and me that we needed to have a full roof replacement. The work was completed on June 7, 2017.

I asked State Farm again to re-evaluate the damage from the photos since thy elected not to re-inspect the property, and they again denied the claim. I told them that I had no choice but to appeal it through the Arizona Insurance Commission to which they smugly and arrogantly responded to me, "If you want to, go ahead, it won't do you any good." She acted as if they run the Arizona Insurance Commission and that you were in their back pocket. This infuriated me and this is the reason that the documentation is so thorough. Besides being a degreed engineer, my father was a contractor and I know when the insurance companies are trying to play the run-around game. This is the run-around game.

Furthermore, my immediate neighbors, Ken and Marsha Jennings, with whom I share a yard wall, had similar damage from both the hail and the wind and their insurance company is paying 100% of their damage. I fail to understand why the Jennings' insurance is bending over backward for their claim and State Farm is being so difficult.

Because I only have one chance to upload documents, and the site so far does not give me notice of the size and quantity of the information, I will upload everything the site will allow me. I have numerous documents and photos of the work from the start to finish.

The only thing I ask from the commission is to really take a look at the damage and tell me that it should be covered. And, if you disagree, I will need to know the reasons in writing so that I can take it off of my State and Federal taxes as a loss due to act of God.

063017: I listened to the message left on my phone by Jesse Walden from State Farm dated June 29, 2017, to talk about the complaint written to the AZ Insurance Commission.

063017, 8:08 AM: I called the number Jesse Walden left for me to return his call [protected], and left a message for him to return the call to work 775-XXX-XXX. I repeated the number twice for clarity.

063017, 10:00 AM: The conversation with Jesse Walden went as expected. They must respond because I filed a complaint with the state. He denied any liability on the part of State Farm. When I told him that I will have to take it to Pima District Court, he laughed and said I could do what I wanted. He said that he would respond to the state and let them know that they do not see sufficient hail damage to justify paying the claim.

Inspection Summary

Allphase Construction was contacted to do a roof inspection at property. During the inspection Allphase confirmed hail damage was sustained from the Date of Loss on 9/12/2016. At that time Mr. & Mrs. Galbraith was advised to call their old insurance company State Farm to report the damage as the DOL was when they have coverage with State Farm. State Farm came out on 5/4/17 to do the inspection and found some damage.

After receiving the State Farm summary of loss from the Galbraith’s on 5/25/17 we noticed that State Farm was not covering the entire shingle roof or flat modified bitumen roof. At that time Allphase prepared an estimate for full roof replacement for the shingle roof and the modified bitumen flat roof. This roof replacement estimate was sent to State Farm on 5/26/17 along with 53 photos showing obvious hail damage.

At that time, we informed State Farm that the Galbraith’s were only going to be in town until 5/31/17 to do the re-inspection. Normally State Farm calls back within 48 hours of receiving documents in the claim file. State Farm failed to contact the Galbraith’s in that time frame to do the inspection or even acknowledge receipt of the roof replacement estimate.

On Saturday 6/3/17 Allphase replaced the flat modified bitumen roofing at that time during the tear off we discovered that the roofing material was saturated underneath and needed to be fully replaced to the decking per Tucson Building Code. The Shingle roofing material was tied into the flat roofing material and was saturated as well so that needed to be replaced also.

The damage sustained at the Galbraith’s home was caused from the DOL 9/12/16 see Hail Report attached. Due to State Farm not properly covering the roof when they were made aware of the situation on 5/4/17. The home sustained water damage and caused the roofing material to become saturated, affecting the reparability of the roof causing for full roof replacement.

Exterior Profile
Roof- 25 year composition laminated shingles installed on dwelling. Modified Bitumen & Elastomeric coating observed on attached flat roof.
Elevation soft metal- custom bent copper flashing & roof vents
Elevation skylight- holes and surface cracks in glass, dented metal on edges
Exterior Shed- composition 3-tab shingles installed on shed.

Observation and Inspection Dispute
Roof- Hail like damage found to all elevations on shingles, and flat roof. Hail damage was most likely due to the hailstorm from 9/12/2016 the hail storm confirmed quarter size hail at property. The hail like damage is consistent with the damage found on the soft metal roof vents and copper custom bent metal flashing and skylights.

Repairs
Allphase Construction replaced the flat roof on 6/2/17 for the property owner on Friday,
June 2nd. During the removal of the flat roof multiple layers were discovered and removed to the decking. During the removal of the flat roof we had to remove the multiple layer shingles as the material was tied into together and roofing materials was saturated from the hail penetrations.

Per City of Tucson Building Code Chapter 9 Roof Assemblies Section R 907.3 Recovering versus Replacement.
New roof coverings shall not be installed without first removing all existing layers of roof covering where any of the following conditions exist.
1. Where the existing roof or roof covering is water soaked or has deteriorated to the point that the existing roof or roof covering is not adequate as a base for additional roofing.
2. Where the existing roof covering is wood shake, slate, clay, cement or asbestos-cement tile.
3. Where the existing roof has two or more application of any type of roof covering.

Exceptions:
1. Complete and separate roofing systems, such as standing-seam metal roof systems, that are designed to transmit the roof loads directly to the building’s structural system and that do not rely on existing roofs and roof coverings for support, shall not require the removal of existing roof coverings.
2. Installation of metal panel, metal shingle and concrete and clay tile roof coverings over existing wood shake roofs shall be permitted when the application is in accordance with Section R907.4.
3. The application of new protective coating over existing spray polyurethane foam roofing systems shall be permitted without tear-off existing roof coverings.
4. Where the existing roof assembly includes an ice barrier membrane that is adhered to the roof deck, the existing ice barrier membrane shall be permitted to remain in place and covered with an additional layer of ice barrier membrane in accordance with Section R905.

Further Information
The Galbraith’s neighbors, Ken and Marsha Jennings, with whom their yard shares a wall, sustained similar damage and their insurance company (not State Farm) has been extremely responsive to the need of replacing their roof. Allphase is in the process of replacing their roof with complete, less deductible, coverage of the damage.

Conclusion

Allphase Construction replaced both shingle roofing and flat modified bitumen roofing as they were in fact hail damaged from DOL 9/12/2016. The entire removal and replacement took approximately one week to complete. Allphase properly indemnified the insured’s property located at 9368 E Hermosa Hills Drive Tucson, AZ 85710. The roofing material installed on the property has been replaced per building code and has a two-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year manufacture warranty.
