State Farm / Bait and switch!

1 United States Review updated:

My daughter got her license a year a go , and got herself a car. For the first 6 months we kept her under our policy. Well its almost time for her to go away to college, we figured this was a good as time as any to get her one of her own. After shopping around and get a very wide range of quotes we decided upon State Farm. They had the best price.

The associate ran the numbers thru her computer and came up with a figure around $560 for 6 months. All was good, 2 weeks later we get my daughters bill and a cancellation letter on the same day ??? A call to the State Farm office and we get told it was a computer glitch that gave her to low of a rate. But for another $25 a month they could keep her on...??? That a increase of 25%, shame on you preying on young people like that. I will contacting a lawyer over this matter. We do have a 6 month contract with you and it will be upheld.

The only time they sent cancellation letters was either due to previous felony convictions in dealing with drugs, alcohol, or mischevious acts, too many car wrecks (these usually arent disclosed to the team member when running a quote), too many tickets, or if your daughter is moving out of state.

560 is too good to be true. Team member must have made a mistake and put your daughter in an adult class instead of youthful driver which is understandable becasue we all make mistakes. But this would not cause SF to cancel your policy, there must be an underlying reason either you aren't telling us or you didn't read you letter. There should be a number of reasons. What are they maybe I can help you understand?

I would like to help too, because I agree with the above assessment. Is there something you are not telling us? State Farm does not have a contract with you until it is approved by an underwriter.

State Farm is doing the exact same thing to me now. Every time I pay in full, they threaten me about a month later saying that I will be cancelled unless I pay $13.98 more. I am on my third round of $13.98 more and have had enough. I filed a complaint with the BBB. State Farm answered and stated that they did make a mistake with there quote but they are going to charge me the difference anyway. CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH. Well I paid it, only to get another bill for the same amount. Now they say I do not qualify for a multi car discount after 10 years of qualifying. Guess the magic amount they are holding me hostage for. Yep another $13.98. Now they also are claiming my second car that is insured with them (2 cars=multi car discount according to there website) also must pay an additional $13.98. Yep scam artist. F.U. State Farm I am taking this to the media. State Farm should pay for holding people hostage. I was also told if i file any claim with my insurance that I would be dropped or at the very least my rates would sky rocket. In other words you pay us we don't pay you for what we claim to offer as a service. Or the house never loses.

I switched to State Farm because they promised me a policy for $ 98.47 per month. I confirmed this with Dimario, confirmation # 4M3DG9PL. I asked him twice if he was sure that was the correct price, both times he said "Yes I can see all your information right here". I went ahead and paid for the first month, and told him to send the paperwork for me to sign. Well, 2 days later I got a letter from State Farm saying...""The insurance premium for your Auto policy is $ 54.93 higher than what was originally quoted..." Needless to say, I was furious, I called up and told them that this was unacceptable, and they told me that if I didn't sign the paperwork, they would report me and cover me in a "different way" at a much higher price. I am now trying to scan the letters they sent me, and will hopefully get somewhere with these people.

I went ahead and scanned the letter where they "bumped" the price, after baiting me with a lower price...

I called State Farm to request a quote. I had a major accident 3 years ago. No tickets. They had all this on file and gave me a good quote. So I switched. Now less then a month later I get a letter stating my insurance payment is going up $168 a month!!! I waited a few days before the switch and when I called back the quote was the same. How can they Justify this?? No computer glitch. So they better not try that one. This is Illegal as Hell!
