Southern Motion reclining power loveseat

I mailed the following letter many weeks ago and was hoping for a response. No response has been received.
August 9, 2018

Dear Sir:
My husband and I bought a Southern Motion power recliner and power loveseat in late June from Choice Furniture in Chichester, New Hampshire. I wanted to let you know how unhappy I am with the loveseat. The details off the piece are SN7465617, Style 733-21-POWER, Cover 24415 and Production date 5/30/18. If every loveseat is the same workmanship, I can't imagine any customer is pleased. My husband and I live alone so I am the only one using that piece daily. I have included pictures of how the two sides of the loveseat don't line up and haven't from day one. I can get them to line up if I play with each side but I don't think that should be necessary after each use. I took the pictures into the furniture store and the salesperson said, "That's not right!" However, when all was said and done, I was told that the three loveseats in the store all lined up the same way after use and nothing would be done. I certainly didn't notice that before purchase but looking at it everyday and thinking about the amount of money we spent is very disappointing. My consolation is that when people come into my living room and tell me that my loveseat is not closed all the way, I can say, "Oh, it's Southern Motion and they say that's the way it's supposed to be." Word of mouth is also a powerful advertisement and I will do all I can to discourage anyone from considering a purchase of Southern Motion. I hope you will consider improving your quality for any future customers. Unfortunately I will not be one of them because I like to be proud of my home and its décor.

We are trying to deal with them ourselves after purchasing the SoCozy -they sent a rep out and he said everything is “normal” ! Not after spending 3900 and it is junk! They say uneven seams are normal! Nope not in our book-this was going to be the last living room furniture we buy but now -not so sure and we will never buy Southern Motion again!

This furniture is beyond horrible .We could not believe the lack of workmanship and numerous mistakes throughout the pieces. After emailing SM several times (they DO NOT have a customer service number -what does that tell you?) to tlka about the photos and explain all the defects, they basically couldn't care less.It was a HUGE mistake and total inconvenience .They should NOT be making furniture .PERIOD.

Southern Motion power recliner

We purchased a southern motion recliner from Hortons Furniture in Wichita Kansas 4 years ago. We are very dissatisfied with this product. We paid a lot for this chair and the leather? If it is leather as we were told, is coming off the head rest. We called the store and was told the warranty is a year. We have a Lazyboy that we have owned for 30 years still looks new. We will NEVER buy another product with the name Southern Motion. What a farce and waste of hard earned money. We are retired and my husband is ill he needs a large comfortable chair to rest in. This is not acceptable business practices.

Southern Motion couch/loveseat fabric falling off

I purchased a couch and loveseat March 15, 2011. I ordered it and waited on it for weeks to come in from Jerry's RCA 375 W Springfield Sullivan, Mo
63080. I went to Jerry's RCA a few months ago and told them what was happening and gave them pictures. I have been back there twice and the person who takes care of this is never there and they never call me back. In December of 2015, the leather like fabric started peeling.
This summer it started falling off drastically. We can't sit on it in certain spots because of the black and blue chunks sticking to our clothing and it is constantly all over my carpet and very embarrassing .
My husband and I lost our jobs and had to get new ones paying way less money therefore we cannot afford to just go out and buy new furniture because the 2000.00 set we purchased is falling apart.
It is the South [protected] Bella Cognac 507-60 Couch Santa Fe Blue
and the South [protected] Bella Cognac 507-60 Console Recliner Loveseat Santa Fe Blue
We paid 1952.44. I would like a refund or replacement. I do not want that kind of material again unless changes have been made to correct the problem.
I purchased this because it is an American Made product.

Thank you,
Linda Martin

Southern Motion southern motion power recliner-tango 2141 power

We purchased our power recliner from Woodstock Furniture Outlet a couple of years ago.Paid a pretty penny for it, too.
We were told that this recliner would last us for years! We were reassured that, although not leather, the bonded material was actually more durable. Mind you, this chair is not used very often, but about a year ago I started to notice spots peeling and flaking. It has only gotten worse.
It looks terrible and is embarrassing, but I have no funds to spend on a replacement. Can't even get a furniture cover for this recliner. It's really a shame that the company doesn't offer some sort of credit towards another one or something. We initially considered buying a fabric recliner.
Who knew that was the choice we should have made.
Also, Furniture Outlet has not been helpful.Their response was, yeah we've heard this issue several times.

Southern Motion memory foam already lost it's memory!!!

We bought a Southern Motion power reclining double loveseat a year and a half ago. The seat cushion on one side has sunk 3 inches next to the arm of the seat. When you sit in it, you feel like you sitting at an angle. Also, the leg rest, on the other reclining side, has dents in the cushion where our legs rest when reclined. We bought the extended warranty so we called the warranty service. A guy came out and said the foam cushions are not part of the warranty and there was nothing he could do. You really don't expect a $1500 loveseat, that only gets used 6 months out of the year, to show this kind of breakdown! I will never buy another Southern Living piece of furniture! Outraged!

Hmmm...8 months same issue.!《°-°》
Haven't filed a claim yet wanted to do some
Research before making some phone calls. Knowing that ours, basically is breaking down in less than one year is absurd and for southern motion not to stand behind their product is a problem. Especially having the extended warranty that is rolled into the the purchase price is also problem.
Have you contacted the bbb or expressed yourself on social media or maybe a letter to the editor

Southern Motion leather sofa/loveseat

Bought new leather furniture 3 years ago, the leather is literally peeling off of both pieces. contacted the furniture store and Southern Motion, furniture store said they had no contact for the company. Funny the company said they are in touch with that store all the time. Needless to say Georgia at Southern Motion promised me a resolution but over 2 months later nothing. Stay away from Southern Motion cheap substandard furniture. I have another leather Piece by a different company that I have had since 2000 no peeling there.

I wish I saw this complaint board before I purchased a leather sofa from Southern Motion. We received our sofa in January of 2015 and the leather is peeling off in two locations. I was sold on the quality of this product and that it was made in USA. I have contacted the company and waiting to hear back. It is a shame when you want to purchase made in the USA and the quality is so poor and you have to jump through hoops just to contact the company.

Southern Motion quality brings shame to "american made" products

We purchased a Southern Motion reclining sofa and love seat set three years ago. We were lured into purchasing the Southern Motion set because we strongly believe in buying American made products and supporting local retailers instead of the big box stores. After two years the material on the bonded leather sofa (which was sold to us as marketed by Southern Motion as "bullet proof and indestructible" material) began falling apart. This set gets just moderate to low usage in our home and after two years developed a small crack that now at year three is peeling an a a large section on the seat is completely pealed off to the backing. I talked with the retailer and was told there was just a one year warranty. I would never recommend this brand to anyone. If this company expects consumers to purchase a new sofa at nearly $2000 every couple of years forget it. I will do all I can to ensure no one I know falls for their terrible product. I have been searching for months on contact information and cannot locate a phone number or email on their website. They are obviously do no have the confidence in their product to stand behind it, and are hiding from duped consumers by failing to publish their phone number. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BRAND!

We purchased a Southern Motion power sofa and power recliner from Stacy’s Furniture delivered in February of 2017 with the 5-year Premium 1 Guardian protection plan. We have had electrical problems from the date of delivery with the recliner. Now we are having problems with the sofa and recliner with cushions, and possibly spring/frame problem in addition to the initial electrical problem. At the very beginning we were told by Stacy’s sales representative to come in and chose another recliner.
Stacy’s did will not honor their commitment to replace the chair in addition to the repairs to the cushion and the possible spring/frame problems on the left hand side of the sofa, even though they are covered by the Southern Motion limited lifetime warranty. It will cost us ~$250 to cover labor assuming the person doing the work receives the stuffing and cushions. We have given up on the electrical problem sense we no longer care about it.
We have been married for 37 years and have purchased sofas and chairs in 6 of the 7 homes we purchased. Never have we experienced such issues, not even with some of the large national brands we purchased.
I called and wrote to Southern Motion to see if they will correct the problems with the couch and chair. They never responded.
Before you consider a Southern Motion sofa, or purchasing anything at Stacy’s, you should consider other suppliers that back up their product and their word.

My double recliner is electric and it quite often goes down with a clunking sound and a jerking side to side.I bought from a home town retail store and they will not come and get it.had other problems with it, they did come for it, but I guess once is all you get. The memory foam seat is no good and the stuffing for the legs came off and slid to the end of the material, they glued it back on.I told them the seat needed replacing, they did not do it. I have to put pillows on the seat.this chair is an overpriced piece of Junk! It is a year old this month.I hate this piece of junk!

Southern Motion dishonest sells / fraud / taking advantage

My daughter Beverly and I (Elizabeth) went looking for a
reclining sofa and a wall hugger recliner chair starting in December of 2012.
We looked at Hudson’s, Ashley’s, Days and Badcock furniture stores. We did also
go to Tarpon Furniture in Hudson, Florida after seeing an ad in the paper. At
that time we saw a Westside wall hugger recliner that we liked in the store
after we tried the chairs they had. Melinda Poirier was the salesperson who
helped us. We then decided to go back and buy the sofa elsewhere. We could not
find a wall hugger that fit us at other stores.

In January 2014, we
looked all over again. On January 16th, 2014, we went back to Tarpon
Furniture to try again. Melinda Poirier, who was our salesperson, again helped
us. We told her the first time and again this second time that we needed a wall
hugger recliner with a handle on the side. We repeated this several times as we
looked and tried out each chair. We also told her we wanted genuine leather. We
tried the peach colored chair by Southern Motion. Melinda said “that they do
not stock chairs because it cost too much to inventory. But, they could get it
from the manufacturer in any color we wanted. The delivery would take 4-6
weeks. The manufacturer, Southern Motion makes the chairs and builds it for us
as soon as it is requested”. Melinda checked her books and with another
employee for the color samples and to make sure the chair came with the handle
on the side. Melinda said that it did and the female employee said that the
Southern Motion rockers and wall huggers all come with a handle on the side. We
asked for a handle every time we tried a chair. Melinda also asked for half the
money down for deposit. Beverly and I each paid $192.50 each on our credit
cards ($385.00). We would not have bought this #2150 Southern Motion, wall
hugger recliner if it did not have the handle on the side.

We then waited and I
called to see where the chair was. I was told that there was a delay due to the
weather in Mississippi, where they make the furniture. I waited and called
again and was told it was on the truck to Florida. I called again and was told
it would be delivered to Tarpon Furniture on Tuesday or Thursday and to us on
Saturday. The chair was delivered Friday, March 7th, 2014.

When the two men on the delivery truck came in with the
chair and sat it down the chair rocked slightly. I could see the rocker frame.
I told them it was not the stationery wall hugger recliner we wanted or
requested, it would have to go back. They driver then called the office and
talked to someone. The driver said they would leave the chair so that we would
have a chair to sit on. Then he left. We then received a call from the office.
They told me they would not leave the (wrong #1150 chair) unless I paid the
balance on the chair while we waited on the correct chair to come. I told them
NO – come and get the chair.

On Saturday, March 8th,
2014 we went into the store to see Melinda and make sure the shipment did not
get goofed up again. We again sat down with Melinda, Beverly, my 2
Grandchildren and myself to hopefully get the correct chair this time. Melinda,
said that she got the wrong (#1150) number when she looked the chair up in the
books. She said that they would pick up the wrong chair at no cost and correct
the number to #2150. Again, it would take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery of the
correct chair. We again asked #2150 if this chair came (wall hugger recliner)
with a handle on the side. We were again told by Melinda that YES, all the
rockers and wall huggers come with a handle. Bruce Weintraub, owner of Tarpon
Furniture and Spring Hill Furniture Inc said “to put the wrong chair #1150 on
the floor to sell”.

On April 24th/25th, I
called to see when the correct chair #2150 would be delivered. I was told that
the truck had taken the chair to the wrong warehouse and they would have to
pick it up. The chair #2150 (without handle) was delivered on April 28th
2014. The drivers brought the chair in and placed it for me. The drivers did a
good job and were polite. The driver stayed inside with me while the other man
went back into the truck. The driver asked me to call the office to finish
paying for the chair $384.33 on my Visa card. He sat in the chair and put the
feet up and lay back in the chair while I was on the phone. He said “they had
another delivery before us of the same color of furniture and they were a good
seller”. I did not see the other side of the chair; it was turned away from me.
He put the chair down and had to go, took the paperwork and left.

I sat down in the chair after he left. I tried
to put the chair open and recline. I could not find the handle on the side of
the chair. I then tried to push open the chair to no avail. I tried again and
my right hand hit something hard down inside the chair. I reached down inside
and there was a pull handle with a string to open the chair. I had to pull hard
to open it. I went outside to see if I could catch the truck but it had left by
the time I went outside.

When I told Beverly what happened. My daughter
came inside and tried the chair too, she said it hit her in the wrong place and
hurt her back. We changed our clothes and went to the store April 28th,
that afternoon. I called Melinda and told her it was the wrong chair. Melinda
said “she never remembered that conversations, the chair comes that way, they
do not do returns and I am stuck with it.” When we walked into the store
Melinda and another blonde lady were waiting. We all sat down and talked.
Melinda again said “she does not remember the conversations about the handle on
the side.” The blonde lady said “rockers and wall huggers come with
handles.” When she found out that the
chair in question was a wall hugger – she shut up. Melinda said they would not
return the chair. They both told us that the #1150 (first chair) we returned
that they put on the floor had sold. We cannot believe Melinda does not
remember the many times we specified a handle on the side of the chair. Melinda
is flat out telling a lie. We want our money back and nothing to do with Tarpon
Furniture. They kept arguing with us and we left.

We left the store and came home. Later that
afternoon April 28th, I called the store and asked for the owner
Bruce Weintraub. I had to call him three times before I was able to talk to
him. He told me that he had been in business for 30 years and he always tried
to make his customers happy. I explained “to him that it was the wrong chair,
without a handle.” He said “that is the way the chair comes.” I said “that it
does not have the same height back as the peach chair on display.” He explained
to me again how the chair must be broken in. I knew about this before. He
wanted me to measure the chair and he would do the same to the peach chair on
display. I was to call him on April 29th after 10:00am with the
measurements. He said “Melinda does not remember the conversations about the
handle on the side. That I say I did tell her and she says does not remember.
That he is in the middle.” I explained “that Melinda had checked the books and
with someone else and they said that rockers and wall huggers come with
handles”. Bruce said “he does not do refunds”. I agreed to call him on the 29th
the next day. I wanted to do some research on him.

The next day April 29th, I called
Bruce back. It took several calls back; I had to leave a message for him to
call me back. Bruce called me. We again repeated the conversation we had on the
28th several times. He said that he would be willing to give me a
power as it only cost him $50.00. I said NO, I do not want power. I only wanted
the handle on the side. I told him that I wanted him to pick up the chair and
give me a full refund. Bruce said “he does not do refunds”. I asked him why he
does not do refunds. He could not give me a reason. He would not refund my
money back to me. He again went back over the whole previous conversation. He
again refused to give to use a refund. I then told him that I had gone to the
bank and we had disputed the charges on the credit card (Visa). He said “do you
know how this works?” You dispute to Visa, they send me the notice, I send the
copies of the paperwork and you can dispute again and I will do the same for as
long as you want and at the end all you will have is the chair”. Yes, I know
how the dispute works. I told him again I wanted the chair picked up and a
refund. I also “told him I wanted nothing to do with him or his company because
of how they do business.” I feel they are dishonest and lie, anything to make
money. They do not care if they hurt people.

I wound up in the ER with blood pressure
216/114. The doctor tried to bring it down with medication. When I left it was
212/80. I am 76 years old and I do not need this. This was in the afternoon of
the 29th of April. Thank you Bruce Weintraub, owner of Tarpon
Furniture and employees.

If you go online to check out the owner and
his company. You will find a multitude of complaints about them. He has or had
several companies’ complaints and lawsuits: BBB West Florida, People Claim,
Yelp, Pasco County Civil Court, and division of Consumer Services. Companies
listed Bruce D. Weintraub, Tarpon furniture, West Coast Furniture, Spring Hill
Furniture Corporation.

We checked Tarpon Furniture web site, the
Southern Motion chairs were all on display. The chair #2150 was included and it
showed a handle on the side. Also, Southern Motion site, J&J Site, Hudson’s
site, Wolf’s site all showed the handle on the side. I am sure that we could
find more disputes. This man needs to
be put out of business; he should not be allowed to prey on the Public.

the handle on the side.

I wound up in the ER
with blood pressure 216/114. The doctor tried to bring it down with medication.
When I left it was 212/80. This was in the afternoon of the 29th of
April. Thank you Bruce Weintraub, owner of Tarpon Furniture and employees.

If you go online to
check out the owner and his company. You will find a multitude of complaints
about them. He has or had several companies’ complaints and lawsuits: BBB West
Florida, People Claim, Yelp, Pasco County Civil Court, and division of Consumer
Services. Companies listed Bruce D. Weintraub, Tarpon furniture, West Coast
Furniture, Spring Hill Furniture Corporation.

We checked Tarpon
Furniture web site, the Southern Motion chairs were all on display. The chair
#2150 was included and it showed a handle on the side. Also, Southern Motion
site, J&J Site, Hudson’s site, Wolf’s site all showed the handle on the side.
I am sure that we could find more disputes.
This man needs to be put out of business; he should not be allowed to
prey on the Public.

The owner of Tarpon Furniture, Bruce D. Weintraub and us has
worked out a resolution for the chair #2150. I spoke to the sales rep of the
manufacturer for the chair and found out it is not made with a handle only a
pull. I was given the wrong information by Tarpon Furniture employees. Bruce D.
Weintraub said he will now pick up the chair and refund our money in full.
