When I applied for SS, I gave them all the info. they needed/wanted. Almost 3 years later, they tell me that they overpaid me $7000 and want it back. Why didn`t they catch this when they decided what my benefits would be? They made the error, they should suck it up.

Oh, I`m paying them back slowly. I just wish that they would say "Sorry, our error."

ssi just hit me with a overpayment an its only been a year! and it was there error not mine why do the people have to pay for there mistakes i been writing to the white house an I'm not goanna stop. When u go in a store an they make a mistake they fix it ssi don't that take it an its from disabled people how low can you be really I'm calling 2 wants to know an start because I think if wall.st can do what they did so can ssi. They need to be held responsible for what they do wrong that is a law right! We don't know if they doing this on purpose or not.how can u over pay more than your back pay? FLAG something has to be done. And they are so rude I've been hung up on .I ask one rep what her name was she said what my name got to do with this call! This has to stop some of the workers could just be telling us that to put it or sum in there pocket. An my last back pay I didn't get until over 6mnths now you tell me are they on there job? An how can u keep over paying so many people?

They can only garnish money from your social security payments if your social security benefits are over a certain amount (Its somewhere past the $900 mark). They can only take property, houses, or cars if you own more then two. I know this because they hit me with a overpayment too (see my recent complaint for info on that one - its a strange case).

Sometimes I dont think they know what their doing. I do agree that when they make mistakes its their own fault and the poor sap being hit with it shouldnt be liable because they did nothing to intentionally defraud the ss office. However they dont see it that way.
