One day I received a survey by the Smithsonian. Included was a box for requesting free issue of Smithsonian Magazine. I filled out the survey but declined the free issue as I was not interested in the magazine. To my surprise I received a free issue anyway. Now they are claiming I ordered a subscription and are demanding I pay! This is the 6th letter I have gotten and I am very disappointed in the bait and switch scam they are running. I filled out a survey. That is all. I did not want the magazine!

I received an offer for a subscription and it also included a section for a gift subscription. I ordered it for both myself and my grandson as a gift. First, there was no gift subscription, then I got a bill which did not reflect the rate quoted in the offer, then I thought I got that straightened out and I got another incorrect bill. I got that straightened out and the gift subscription also. Then I got a correct bill. I paid the bill and thought that everything was correct. Next, I got another subscription at my vacation home. I was reluctant to have them cancel that because I didn't want my original subscription or gift subscription canceled inadvertently. I now am being dunned for renewal of my subscription at my vacation home (the one I never ordered). I finally called and they insist that I got that subscription and paid for it in addition to the other two subscriptions. They say that they have now canceled the third subscription and are mailing me a refund.
They seem like nice enough people and they give the appearance that they know what they are doing, but I don't think I can spend this much time managing this subscription.

I received one or two copies of Smithsonian magazine, then a bill. The problem is that i did not subscribe to the magazine. I don't even like the magazine. I paid the postage to answer one notice, but it was not acknowledged. Now i get a notice threatening to turn over the $12 bill to an outside collection agency. Someone please help me. Tell me what to do.

I received the free issue and ordered a subscription - paid - and never received another issue.
