Car dealership offered a $1000 gift certificate when you test drive one of their vehicles. This is a gift certificate scam. You pay for every item you choose...Many of the charges are more than the item is worth...

They are all scamers they said I had to sign up for 5 years of magazines and only pay $3 and some change for 5 magazines a month then they said they would send me a letter in the mail to choose what magazines I wanted. So I waited over a month for it to come in and they are now saying that it is gunna be $45 a month. So I called them to ask them why its all of the sudden changing and they started to get all rude. So I was very rude back and told them that they are not getting another sent out of me and they said that if I wanted to cancle the order I would have to pay them $984.15 just to cancle early. So now they are telling me they are going to bring me to court and now my credit is all messed up. Don't be a sucker like me they are a joke .

So, I got called because I filled out a card about winning a car at the mall. I willingly gave them my name, address, age, marital status, etc. Like most other people probably have. At first, the rep was offering a $300 gift certificate for the selectyourgifts.com site. I googled it real fast, saw the list of complaints, and told her I wasn't interested because of the bad reviews. She was surprised! Then she politely offered me a 2day, 3 night stay which is valid for the top 5 hotel chains in any state. All I have to do is listen to a sales rep about air purifiers and answer 10 questions about it. Plus she threw in a set of "restaurant quality" steak knives. I am still wary, but my friend just won a very similar package, and already has it in hand. She hasn't tried to use it yet though. I am hoping this pans out, I need a vacay!

If I didn't give them my card number, should I be worried about anything? They have my address and everything!

I also agree with the other consumer comments. I, on the otherhand purchased a pricey vehicle and a few months later was sent a $500.00 gift certificate. While browsing through the products offered, I was very disappointed to see that they are low quality items and the shipping charge for all items exceed the actual price of the item. So what is the gift here or the deal?
I am not going to purchase anything and I will notify my dealership of this embarrassment. These are low quality items that sell on Ebay for very low prices. I am ashamed that I fell for their offer but in these hard times often a "seems like a good offer" turns out to be a SCAM...GRRRR..

I received a $500.00 gift certificate for "Selectyourgifts.com", from an in home demo. I cannot blame the company that gave it me. After all, I did accept the "gift"without questions regarding it's use and history. HOWEVER, I can report that this so called gift card business is out to recover its gifted amount by charging over market value for ALL of it's inventory, and then adding extra S&H charges that an honest company would not do when ordering several items to be sent to the same address at same time. This is a company, selling discount store items, at prime store prices, with a surcharge for doing business with them. " Thank you for doing business with us, we enjoyed screwing you today and look forward to the next victim". Let's stop their maddness! Shop at your local stores and promote your home town economy, and save money at the same time!

why do you people fall for these things it doesn't make any sense. Why would a BUSINESS want to give you a $1000 without getting that and much more in return. I just received a call and I broke them down before even seeing this site. My angle was to ask for the gift certificate without any subscriptions and for them to grant me access to there site to see what I would be able to shop for before any information was exchanged. Its all common sense, the reaction to my demands was evident enough to show me that they were full of it.

I "won" a 250 gift certificate and read the terms before I entered the site. What a crock! I wrote (emailed) selectyourgifts.com and told them they should be ashamed...but the kicker is they wrote me back and told me how many customers LOVED them and they had high ratings with the BBB. OMG! What a Crock... and SHAME on Hub City Ford, Crestview, FL for promoting them!

I too got a phone call about a month ago saying I won a $1, 000 shopping spree online because I have a Mastercard. I've never gotten a scam call before and didn't even realize this was one. The lady on the phone made it sound like I could just shop anywhere online and I knew that sounded a bit weird and though, maybe it's a few websites like Wal*Mart and such. Stupidly I gave her my card info and she said they were sending me free samples of a few of their magazine and all I had to pay was about a $9 shipping fee. I agreed to it but made sure nothing else besides that would be charged to my card. She said they would only charge my card further if I didn't call and cancel within the next 21 days. She also said that I'd still get the $1, 000 shopping spree even if I canceled. After I hung up I called my mom and told her about it and she assured me it was a scam. I called to get my card canceled but they said they said they would cover 100% of fraudulent charges and the company was legally only allowed to charge me the $9 fee I agreed to. I basically just had to wait and see if they charged me further. I called a few days later and cancelled everything off of my card. I never got the "free samples" I was supposed to get but I did get the $1, 000 shopping spree certificate. I typed it into google to see what would come up and I found this. Now I know I won't even bother with the certificate or look at their crap online, that you can only get at selectyourgifts.com. Especially since everyone is saying you have to pay outrageous shipping and handling fees and processing charges for junk. I'm just happy I didn't get charged as much as some people out there have. It's a $9 lesson well learned.

I can't believe I fell for this crap, while I am already going through very hard financial times. Now I am literally sick to my stomach over this. I haven't payed for the magazines yet, by how do I get out of it? Do I try calling them tomorrow to cancel? I should've known it was too good to be true! Anyone please give helpful advice!

i totally agree! i got the same call just a few days ago. The guy said i won a $1, 000 online shopping spree. i tried so hard to get off the phone, but they just kept pushing me and pushing me. Mind you i just got a bank account and a card, so i did the stupid thing and gave them my card number. and next thing i know they take $38.71 out of my account. I started freaking out and i called them back and i tried to cancel. And the lady in the customer service area told me i could never cancel. i told her i didn't want anything to do with this at all. and she said the voice recording when i kept on saying yes was what made me not be able the cancel. she said if i said no then it would have been terminated. I was pissed off! they are supposed to tell people these things. i'm trying to take a trip to new york and i can't have money being taken out. the money they already took out is pending so there is nothing i can do about it. but my bank cancelled that card for me and i getting a completely new one so they can't take anymore money out. SO BEWARE NEVER GIVE YOUR CARD NUMBER TO ANYONE ON THE INTERNET OR OVER THE PHONE. AND ALSO WATCH OUT FOR PEOPLE WHEN THEY SAY YOU'VE WON A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY.

I enetered a sweepstakes that said it was FREE.
I was contacted by phone that I have been chosen to received $1000.00 spending spree.
After using my prepaid phone card to contact them from message left on phone: I was told at the end that I had to have a MAJOR CREDIT CARD. That was NOT stated anywhere in the information to enter. There do NOT tell the truth and should have to meet the agreement stated. What a group of "GOOFBALLS"...they should have to pay us what they promised.

Beware!
First off, I just want to tell you DO NOT give them your card information. This is where they get you. I fortunately was skeptical of the 1, 000 prize from the beginning. I was trying to ask a lot of questions like "what's the catch" and "do I get charged for any of this" and of course they tell you "No, no, no." Not to mention they are trained to talk a mile a minute to that the caller doesn't have a chance to have their questions asked. They are very sneaky. You have to realize we are untrained in the art of scams so we are not as well rehearsed or quick on our toes as they are. Nevertheless, an average person can just feel something just isn't right. Also, when I repeatedly questioned if costs were involved this is when they transfer you to their "supervisors" which merely is another person who is even more trained in talking you out of your money. Just remember, if it seems too good to be true, that is because it is! If you live by this your money should stay safely in your bank account. Also, NEVER, NEVER under any circumstances, no matter if they recite laws or any other fancy talk DONT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO! Not unless you are sure you are paying for the item that you want.

I got a call from a number today saying that I won a 1000 dollar shopping spree. She asked for my first and last name, and my age(not birth date), and I told her my name and that I am 18 years old. I asked her how she got my information and she said through a survey (I recently completed one for my college through a .com website, so I thought that maybe that was what she was referring to). She then said that she had to verify that I am a VISA card holder, so she needed my number. Thank god I didn't have my card with me, or I would have stupidly given it to her. I told her I'd call back when I got home. Just to make sure it wasn't a scam(It sounded too good to be true), I googled the phone number. I found out that it was linked to selectyourgifts.com, and found this website. I am not going to call back now, thank you everyone for sharing your complaints! I will NEVER be this stupid again :).

If you set up everything and then decide you don't want to go through with it because you will pay just as much if not more for your magazines, then call [protected] and tell them you want to cancel everything. Since they are customer service, they are obligated to follow your requests.

I recieved the same 1, 000.00 gift certificate so called from Walmart. It is all junk. I can go to the dollar store and get better crap. They are taking out $50.00 a month from my checking account that I really can't afford and have recieved no magazines. After it is all said and done it will cost me 1, 000.00 for nothing. Plus shipping and handling. I have not used my certificate. I will not use it. I'm gonna fight this. They won't let me cancel it. Not right. I have 5 kids to support and we live off of SSI since my husband passed. We need that money. I can barely buy food at the end of the month. That $50.00 they are taking from me would be very useful to be able to buy my kids food. This is the worst scam I have ever got my self into. I don't know what to do.

I revived a call from them saying that i also had won a shopping spree and, they actually gave me multiple phone numbers, so if anyone at all has issues here is their service line [protected], please feel free to call them and express your opinions to them, for i have the same. I was kinda weirded out when i got the call about it, so i called them back though all the phone executives are nice and all it seemed fishey when they told me about their promotions of magazines for 60 months at 2.86 a week and as i was transferred it became 3.86 a week. And then i Visited the sight they gave me... under construction, so i googled it and natuarally i found all this info about it being a scam. And interestingly enough the website doesnt even show up as an option. so if search engines cant find it then it must be fishy. so i called them back and spoke with their supervisor, hopefully everything is settled. Though They told me my card holder entered me in a drawing for this. Though above is the number for everyone.

This company is a scam. Be careful. Here is what you can buy but remember that you will be paying $5.00 per item plus an extra $8+ dollars for shipping and handling. All items have outrageous shipping and handling. Here is the garbage you can get:

OMG! I almost fell for this an hour ago! I was all in until they asked me for my card number, when I asked him what he needed for if the shopping spree is "Free"? He began to talk super fast and said some BS about a pre - approved screening that was needed. I then asked are the payments for the magazine going to be something that is taken out automatically? He again sped through some script and but reluctantly said yes it will be taken out automatically. I told him that I am a broke college student and that is not going to work. Then he hung up on me...just rude

I got a phone call from some company saying I won a $1000 shopping spree, but didn't specify with where, just said that I'd get an account with $1000 credit and that as I spend, it will go to 0 or till I can't buy anything. I agreed along with an offer of 3 one year subscriptions of magazines, I said OK since they are free, and he said that I can test it for a month, and if I'm unhappy or no longer want them, just call customer service and cancel, if not I'd be billed $56.00 The only catch was that I had to pay the 8.95 processing fee (so they could organize my shopping spree with things that interested me) by giving them my CC #.

Yet, the guy was very polite, asking about the weather, said how that the 8.95 is nonrefundable and that conversation was being recorded that way they wont be reported for fraud... I think that was the problem, that I fell for this scam. Next thing I knew I had multiple unknown charges from SCORE MARKETING and YOUR MAGAZINE SOURCE, I called the number they provided they said they would remove them, and it took 5 days to remove, along with calling my bank and replacing my card, I finally got this elusive shopping spree information a week or so later.

I went onto the website, and used the account # and password to see what was actually available (I was very surprised to even receive it in the mail) it was ALL JUNK! Nothing worth all this trouble and worry over crappy made junk, old 1990 PC games and PS2 games that aren't even worth the s/h that you are require to pay for each item along with a $5 one time charge. Just another way to get your CC# so I closed the window and ripped up the certificate. I don't even care if I do get the magazines.

I am sooooo thankful that I found this web site! I received a flyer in the mail from Lakeland, FL Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer with a scratch off number. WOW! The number matched the number on the attached, pre-loaded $10, 000 debit card. I have an appointment to go to the dealership to claim one of four guaranteed prizes: 1) $10, 000 Pre-Loaded Debit Card, 2) MAC iPAD, 3) $500 Holiday Gift Card or 4) $150 Cash in Hand. I used a magnifying glass to read that the gift card is redeemable online at www.SelectYourGifts.com. I searched for this www.SelectYourGifts.com web site and also found this web site "Complaintsboard.com" which proves that "if something looks or sounds too good to be true" it probably is. I will NOT keep my appointment with this dealership and will reveal their shady way of doing business to all my friends and neighbors.

CROSSROADS FORD IN PRINCE GEORGE, VIRGINIA, did the same thing. They gave us a huge $1, 000 shopping spree for coming in to look at what they had for sale. At this point, we WILL NEVER BUY FROM CROSSROADS FORD simply because of their involvement in this scam. It is a joke! If I could not be honest and offer something above board, I would not offer anything at all. If you are honest, people will buy from your dealership anyway. This scam just makes us think what would CROSS ROADS do to make a buck! No way, we will not go there again!
