These are the same people that continue to own nice cars, clothes, etc., but cannot pay their rent. They destroy neighborhood because of the activity they have going on in their house and outside of their house. You can be on Section 8, but you don't have to act like an animal. Act like human beings and respect others that live around you that pay mortgage and property taxes. Who wants to buy your house when they come to look at it your friends and family is standing all over the place like wild animals, loud, loud music, cars parked everywhere, smoking and taking drugs and drinking all over the place. Who the hell live like that but animals. I am not saying all Section 8 people are like that, but most of you all are and you know who you are. It's sad that Section 8 wants you people to live around decent people, but they never drive by or come by to see how you are acting. If you are not decent neighbors you should not be in a decent neighborhood. It so sad when you destroy a neighborhood, because you don't care about anything but finding the next man or woman and continue to have all those children that you cannot control or take care of. Something needs to stop and it needs to stop soon. Section 8/Housing Authority or whomever you may be STOP THESE PEOPLE FROM DESTROYING NEIGHBORHOODS.

I really just want to know a number to call or a link to to find legal service(s) to obtain legal service for help, re:a case worker aka supervisor who thinks it's ok that the landlord submitted a different lease to receive $800+ my lease landlord signed was $600.00 . Landlord asked me if I would allow him to ask for more money he would give me some and pay my utilities. I said no. 3 years later I received a letter that my payment increased $10 that I pay to Landlord...It also shows that he was paid $861. from day 1 . I then realized that he insisted I go with him to meet with a lady at housing because he had to of known her she told him that my voucher of $981.00 was for single dwelling and $861.00 is the amount he can request..While the landlord went out to his truck to get information re:his father I asked the case worker why was increase mentioned as I showed her my lease $600.00 a month, she replied no just wait till he gets back, they only discussed his father's situation so I interrupted asking that we discuss my lease, as Landlord asked how long till he receives rent and $1900.00 for my security deposit ...2-4 mos case worker replied for rent only security deposit depends on me. she that says I should thank him for being patient not many landlords are willing to wait..She took my lease asking us both to sign...I was at ease because mine was the for $600.00, on the way home he was angry that he had to wait so long and wanted my $1900. deposit within 30 days . I was harassed and lied to by the 2 people at that meeting the Landlord and the case worker, when I called to talk to the case worker I found out that she wasn't my case worker it was someone else, yet no one could tell me who she was.
After receiving the letter after 3 years to learn that something was wrong, I called my case worker requesting a copy of the lease they had, the lease I saw was not the one I signed but it showed signatures on the last page, mine and the landlords. I told her that this copy I have is not the one I signed with the landlord, and that my rent is only $600., case worker replied "so what if we pay him more, you still have to pay the same amount for landlords portion to make up the difference of $861.00...Since it was Friday I had to wait till Monday to talk to someone at my facility...
I am still disturbed that an employee for Housing and was my case worker/supervisor failed to discuss any of this, refusing to answer my questions and before hanging up said don't just walk in this office without an appointment you'll be turned away, and after I asked how do I contact her supervisor she said I am my supervisor...
So again I ask to whom can I talk to concerning the above matter that can help me since then the landlord has disappeared a notice of new owners was posted (a management company) that wanted rent for 2 months prior to July. This month is August 3 day pay or quit was posted on my door late pm..I called and talked to person who's number and named to contact... This apt., is not worth the $600..and is not worth $861.00 so I need legal advise for city of LOS ANGELES in California

Worked in the real estate/housing industry over 18 years, Anyone receiving housing assistance and treated in a derogatory or discriminatory manner should file a complaint with HUD.. www.hud.gov This site is also good for educating those who don't know the intricacies of the program. The majority receiving assistance work full-time and have decent income, however depending where they reside, the income can be inadequate to pay housing and living expenses..

for all you ppl crying about section 8 returning calls. send a fax or registered letter, they will respond. I have been doing it for years. all the rules are on line, learn they instead of expecting others to protect you.
this advise is for ssdi, old ppl and disabled. not you laZy ###'s I see with your women sitting in section 8 office. of you females yelling I have 3 kids. should have planned. no shame, no self respect but expect others to respect you. pleeeeeeeeeeeese they should give this to old ppl and sick ppl. not ppl who want free rent, sell a few food stamps and hustle a little instead of working. paid for the ink on your neck face but can't pay rent.

I've been on the waiting list for 15 years, am sure many people have gotten on because of them knowing some one, it's not right! I thought these programs were suppose to be temporary, I see people with fancy cars, etc living in housing, the government really need to dig deep, there's many scams going on, I know people who applied long after me and there in housing, I have a disabled child and have no support,

I'm all for a hand up. Never received section 8 myself, but did receive food stamps when my husband was between jobs. I still worked full time while he searched for a new job, and guess what, when he found a new job we no longer received food stamps. We used them when we needed the help, but that was it. If you need the help, use it, but don't abuse it.
I hate it when people abuse the system, and get all of their ### paid for while they sit at home all day. I have a neighbor who does this. Her boyfriend who lives with her is not part of the household in her paperwork, because that would cause her amount of assistance to decrease. She does not have to pay for anything! It's aggravating to know I bust my ### working to afford everything my family has, while she gets to sit at home reaping her benefits.

People are so dumb when it comes to things they don't understand. I am a landlord, and have been for over 20 years. I accept those with section 8, and no they are not all trouble. There are those who are trouble, as with anyone without section 8. Having section 8 doesn't make you a bad person, so those who feel that section 8 tenants are trouble, is mistaken. Get the facts before you judge others!

I had a section 8 tenant who left my house in an extremely bad condition. cost me thousand to bring it to where it was. She left because her voucher increased and she needed and bigger place. Thats fine but its insulting when you into a very nice house and when you leave you trash the house. Its tax payer money including mine that is paying for those programs. I think they should have an exit inspection like they do before a section 8 tenant moves in and if the house isnt as it was you dont get your benefits. Now i see why most folks dont want to rent to section 8 and of course the city or housing department dont care and arent involved. That is just sad.

I wish they would regulate section eight. My mother raised three children by herself and never took a hand out. We lived in an area that was not a very pleasant place to live, but that is what she could afford. I learned from her book of ethics and I worked my way to home ownership in a very nice, and quite neighborhood. After four years of living here the very nice elderly woman across the street from me passed away. Her home went up for auction and a "We buy homes cash guy" purchased it and decided to rent it out to section 8 tenants. Now I have to listen to load music and a Honda without a muffler when I am home. They are always working on their cars and never seem to go to work. I work a 4 day work week and now I volunteer for overtime because I have more peace at work. Not only do I have to pay my FULL mortgage and taxes, I have to change my life to accommodate lazy people. I believe section 8 is needed but you should only be able to live in certain areas. One person on this forum states that things like student loans and/or any other kind of loans. I had to pay loans and I made sacrifices to pay those loans. I lost several jobs do to layoffs and I have my B.S. in information systems. I worked janitorial jobs, clerical and in the food industry to support myself, and my family. I do not take hand outs!. So don't mind me if I am a little upset when my tax dollar is being used by people that have no regards for the feelings of anyone else.

waoooo it's crazy what they think about us, yeah i said us because i have section 8, and im still struggling, and i have an education, but unfourtunaly lots of things happen in my life and im not going to get into it, but i do need that help, and i apreciated it a lot. think before you write, because even tho i have section 8, sometimes we don't even have a glass of milk. and i don't take advantage of the system, because i know that there is people out there in worst situation than me. yeah im writing from a computer of a friends house, and today im eating dinner in her house, because my fridge is empty, but tomorrow will be full, because thats life. Don't talk bad about ppl today for tomorrow you won't have to be in their place. Remember there is a God up there! God bless you...

Dear Pathetic World ... I 100 percent agree with you. I complain constantly about the leaches of the world. I don't have a problem helping people in need...but not for a lifetime, nor while they churn out kid after kid, and those kids grow up thinking it's OK too...and round and round we go. I have always worked. I make good money. I live check to almost check. My rent and bills (utilities and car payment) then buy food with whats left. I have no credit card debt. So it really does erk me when I see some getting everything handed to them on a silver platter. All they have to do is keep having kids and the freebees just keep rollin in. but you know what...at least we appreciate what we have because we have earned it. Best of luck to you.

We live in a quiet nice neighborhood and have a section 8 house across the steet. these people have been here for about 6 months and they are destroying our neighborhood. Every single house on our street keeps yard in good shape and respects everyones property. These people keep trash and junk all over their yard and play loud music all night long. They dont work and i know they sell and do drugs. I just think its people like this that are making a bad name for those others that do need the help and are trying to make it in life. We call the cops on them all the time, hopefully it will get bad enough where they move out. All i want is for them to keep their ### clean and keep the noise down, especially at night when those who do work for a living are trying to sleep.

Twitter, you rock! I agree with every word you said! I found this site wanting to learn more about Section 8 as I just discovered that a home across the street from me in the next neighborhood over is Section 8. I live in the suburbs and though I'm not surprised that some homes in my 40 year old neighborhood had be become Section 8 housing over the years, I am surprised that the neighborhood next to mine also have Section 8 housing as it's only 15 years old and much more modern than my neighborhood. Why do I care that I found out that this house was Section 8? Probably because gun fire has errupted 2 different times over their over the past couple of weeks right in between two different homes with families with young kids both of which do contribute positively to our society and hold full time jobs and are liked by their neighbors. I've lived in my neighboorhood for 32 years and I've seen a lot of changes and a lot of crap over the years. Funny think is, every time the cops are called, violence errupts, meth labs or growing operations are busted with swat teams and now gun fire errupts, yup you guessed it, it's almost always the section 8 homes where these activities takes place. I know there are always exceptions to every rule, and i know that some of you are not abusing the system but for once I wish those who defend themselves who are upstanding citizens could admit that the mojority of the people in section 8 are those who stir up trouble.

Excuse me, but any section 8 recipient posting on here can only speak for him/herself, not the so called "Majority" of section 8 recipients that's the ones in folks neighborhoods stirring up so much "trouble." Property owners, You all can only speak from the three or four "at most", section 8 recipients that you've experienced. And if they were so Horrible (doing drugs, getting busted by swat teams, partying all times of the day and night, destroying the properties, keeping a filthy home, "illegally" moving in boyfriends, husbands, or relatives, staying home all day long, while the Government so called pays for the entire rent amount all year long, as many have "suggested" goes on with the so called "majority" of section 8 recipients, which no one really knows no more than what theyve actually experienced, everything else is just rumors, myths, hearsay, and most likely a crock of lies, made up to scare away the clueless property owners that's curious/considering taking in some section 8 tenants, but instead of doing the necessary research including -visiting the Section 8 Housing office in your area, speaking with experienced individuals, that really knows how the program works, and can tell you everything you need to know, they do rather go to YouTube and watch "Slumlords" posting some more bull [censored]/lies in a video format- to scare the property owners away from ever even considering taking in a section 8 tenant, instead of contacting an actual Housing Agency for real information and real facts, they rather run to these types of forums and social media in general, instead, where Slumlords, Nosey lying neighbors, and property owners with minimal experience in having S8 tenants frequent, to get their information? Nobody can speak on a majority of S8 tenants, if you haven't actually serviced/housed the actual Majority of S8 tenants which is in the Billions possibly, with thousands of more people on the waiting lists in some of these US States, like NY for example. There's Millions on S8 out here alone, literally with Thousands on the wait list waiting for a spot. So unless you actually housed Thousands or more of S8 recipients, STOP coming on message boards, or on social media, trying to make folks believe that the "so called" majority of Section 8 voucher recipients are unemployed, thugs, gang bangers, and hood rats!

I agree that this is just another thing they made up to distract us from the main focus ! they (section8) are not worried about the tenants nor non-tenants that are being affected by them not doing there jobs right ! we all are just another person complaining to them . when they need to really hear us ! and do something about it . Instead they like the violence people result to or some destroy there property not realizing that it is not even there property, and there making it hard for the ones that are very grateful and keep there homes clean and there surroundings clean they represent them in a positive way but that is when the violence starts because people start feeling like it does not pay to do right and pay your bills and live in peace .WE HAVE TO SETTLE FOR LESS TO GET THE HELP ! AND I AM ONE OF THEM THAT PAYS ALL OF MY RENT EXCEPT FIFTY DOLLARS ! AND I PAY MY TAXES TOO SO I AM PAYING THAT PORTION TO WHEN IT'S ALL SAID AND DONE HUH!

After reading all of the posts...it looks like some of these people could have been out putting in applications for a job. Even though half f the can spell for [censor]. Section 8, Welfare or what ever "label" you want to put on it...is a helping hand for some and a "free ride" for others. I have always worked and paid my own way. The economy being what it is today I'm sure that more and more people are finding themselves applying for assistance. I have no problem with that at all. But then there is a much larger group and class of people that have no intention of ever getting out on their own and their offspring end up doing the same. LAZY. There are those that not only get section 8, but a check, medical assistance, food stamps, daycare, and other things that working people can't even afford without working 2 or more jobs. That ol' "single parent" [censor] really needs to be put to rest. I have worked 2 jobs when my son was small just to provide. Who cares about what [censor] you decided to "hook-up" with or marry. That shouldn't be societys problem. But some have made it our problem. To many people that could work are just to damned lazy. For those that have found themselves in desperate times, they have most likely worked all their lives. Now, they need alittle help. I have no problem with them as they will be happy to get back to work as soon as possible as they can't live the live they'd like with just public assistance. I only happened on this site trying to find how to file a complain against someone collecting welfare, including section 8 that doesn't think it's necessary to report $3, 000.00 as income. [censor]! It is income. There are people out there that abuse and EXPECT others to pay their way forever!

This whole thread is full of ignorance.
I am a 29 year old smart, caring, beautiful mom of 2 children.
I also work full time, but fell in love with the wrong guy at 17, and had my son. Then tried a second time at 26 and had my daughter. Thats right, my kids are very far apart in age.
So I am not a "Overweight leach of tax dollars who wont quit having kids".
As I only recieve child support for one of my children, its hard to make ends meet by myself.
I am on section 8, and have a beautiful home that I PAY rent for, based on my income.
I keep a SPOTLESS, let me say it one more time... SPOTLESS house, as I cant think with a messy home. And anyone who has kids knows that it is chaotic with them alone, letalone a messy house on top of it.
I am also sick of the comments of "my tax dollars paying for THEIR free ride". I am not getting a FREE RIDE, nor am I even on welfare! Welfare is when the Government GIVES you cash. I recieve no cash, I get help with my rent, money that I never see.
Also, to the disabled jerk who thinks that she is better then the sec. 8 people who live next door... give me a break. Your getting some form of government money yourself if you are disabled. And even being "disabled" has a stigma. Lazy, uses a sickness/disease to not have to work.
So, hopefully you can realize, that the single moms you are critisizing are the SAME cute girls you are asking out on dates. Or your sister, or your cousin, or your childs mom. So think twice before you think its all "troublemakers, and leaches".

Its a shame that people don't understand that they are on welfare just like section 8 people, when you get hurt you get workers compensation WELFARE, when you get old you get social security WELFARE when fema helps anyone its WELFARE when you need help with your mortgage WELFARE. Section 8 is just a cheaper form of welfare but before you judge welfare you better remember you will need WELFARE YOURSELVES ONE DAY!

Well get a load of this. I am a disabled person living across the street from two households that are on secton 8. Because I am home a lot, they assumed that I must be on section 8 as well. However, after some time I started attending school and started back working part-time. Ever since then the section 8ers have been pretending to work. Now somehow they all go to work at the same time I do. And the whole idea is to "pretend" to work rather than actually getting a job. Someone may say that they might have a job and how do I know? Well, it was only after the lady saw what time I went to work that she started leaving at that time of morning, before that she "went" to work at a different time. Also, her grown children stay at home lounging all day while she plays the hardworking single mother role.

More they make noises all day and night to disturb my rest, and somehow even on the days that she's supposedly at work someone is still making these noises all day long. Come to find out the two households are working together. They'd rather pretend to work and harass others rather than get a real job.

I had never been in contact with section 8 but the downturn in the economy it has reached the suburbs where I live. I have nothing against anyone needing a second chance. I've been sick since I was 23, and without betraying knowledge of how old I am, I have always at least tried to work part time even with a neurological disorder. SOME of these people are trash that don't want anything out of life and only want to pull others down into their muck.

I am very perturbed as a single disabled mother to now have to deal with this riff-raff.

How do you know she pretending to go to work. Do you know how ridiculous you sound. You really think the woman across the street on sec8. Really goes out of her way just to fake you out. Ha..ha.. that's so typical of a Karen. Why don't you get a hoby instead of looking out your window obsessed with the lady across the street. Look you ain't no better then the next person. We are all born sinners. You are no one to judge. So please forgive me for even replying to your ridiculous comments. I just can't help but to laugh at you thinking people revolve on you. That lady could care less and has no time to impress you. Good day and God Be with you.

I am not a receiver of section 8, but I do not beleive a program represents who you are. There are section 8 homes in suburban areas. Very Beautiful, that you would not know the residents receive section 8.

Every person in the world dictates their own lifestyle. Just because you live in a jungle does not mean that you act like Tarzan.

Remeber, Doctors, Lawyers, Rappers, Singers, Poets, Teachers, Presidents, etc, come from these section 8 houses.

So that very small ratio that you are talking about does not always come out of the projects. Their are people (trouble makers) that live in well established neighborhoods, that are killing one another. Drugs and Alchol play an important element in this factor.

So both of you stop arguing back and forth it is pointless and the rocks that you are getting off is not benefiting anyone.

If you don't want to keep paying taxes to help support the homeless or the lazy. Then offer your services. Maybe in financial counseling, work forces, educational resources, etc.

Offer her a job that would make her sufficent enough to pay her own rent. Offer opportunities that can help her through her struggle. Instead of playing on her intellectual level and making yourself look like the educated, well rounded person of a unstabalized society.

Life is short and everyone needs a second chance. I hope you both can come to a mutual understanding. I take both of your comments into consideration.

Good Luck!

Way to go Twitter -

I agree. I am sickend going to work everday so my neighbor can live rent free in a $2500.00 a month home while I go to work and pay taxes for her "free ride".

What "FREE RIDE?" One of the qualifications to be eligible for the section 8 voucher program is that recipient is Employed. What kind of section 8 program is run in your city where the S8 recipients dont have to work or pay any rent where they live? Even with the Welfare program, the individuals have to work for those pennies they get from the State/City. Try looking up what you need in order to be eligible for the S8 program. It's a MYTH that folks on S8 sit around doing nothing all day while the Federal Government is paying there rent all year long. That's not how the program works. You've been misinformed.

As a former long time employee of AT&T and Lucent Technologies I myself am current recipient of Section 8.

Some workers I have had at Section 8 are demeaning and rude, often times having the mindset that I am uneducated and that it is okay to devalue me and attempt to make me feel less than I am simply because I am a Section 8 recipient. Thank goodness that I know who I am as a person, because often times, people makes assumptions that are invalid.

Some of the expletives seen in the above posts are exactly what many people feel whether they be true or false. Also, many assumptions made about some recipients could also be said about individuals who live in an affluent neighborhooda in a private house, co-op or even a condominium, but because of laws and by laws in place, such behavior would not be tolerated. The same could be found in any environment.

For me Section 8 is a bridge and I am currently walking towards ending my relationship with Section 8 and using all of the horrible negative discriminatory experiences as well as the good experiences I have encountered to change me for the better. I am single with no dependants and my heavily taxed dollars have helped many people and I am glad I could be of assistance, and I did not pick and choose the recipients. If people are helped, I'm very happy to able to do so, as long as the recipients dont have to go through what I have had to encounter in order to get the help that they truly may need. I want to give with a "Servants Heart", I just dont want to be treated as the Government is my Master and that I have never contributed anything for the good of anyone, because that would be absolutely false.

Forget the name section 8. We can be poor but we dont have to make problems in a neighborhood that has been used by long time residents.Section 8 does not check the homes and children of their applicants. The home should be checked monthly along with the progress of the children in their care.

this is one senseless and at the least, ignorant, argument i have heard in a long while. there should be no one judging anybody because of their financial situation. thats so tacky and childish. secondly, i dont give a damn if its a free service that is being offered. it doesnt give them the right of way to treat people like crap. what these workers fail to remember is, they personally are not the ones that are offering the free service. the city is! im sure they dont get paid any more or less for being an ###. their are alot of tax paying people on gov programs so cut it out with all of the foolishness about your tax paying dollars paying for someone to get a so called "free ride". lets hope life has mercy on u and youll never become "garbage" as you so eloquently put it. i prey u never need help, cause if you ever do, i would love to be there to make you eat your words.

First of all you should be more educated and not judge others.
and yes I do agree that most section 8 are garbage and NO I'm not getting a free ride I pay rent money and section 8 does not pay all of it so educated yourself before pointing fingers.
section 8 is the biggest piece of S#&* there is.
is just a name SECTION 8 who doesn't care about their clients who many are DECENT people.I live in a building section 8, full of trouble makers whom even the Landlord is scare of these people.playing loud music at all times, trowing their garbage and dog waste to other tenants balconies, harrasing and assaulting the disabled and this people you go to section 8 to report them and section 8 does not want to hear this.
Many of section 8 tenants are garbage but also the whole section 8 is a big pile of garbage and NO I'm not getting a free ride but rather suffering in this hell hole building waiting for my lease to expired.
