I saw Dr Ghostine for my back and leg pain. His office was very helpful and got me in for an appointment right away. My Husband, Parents, and I - we all had a very good impression of Dr Ghostine from the start. He has a kind way of speaking, explained everything clearly, and had a caring manner. I decided to proceed with my surgery and he was able to accomodate me right away, as he was very concerned. I had a large herniated lumbar disk and developed urinary symptoms of retention just prior to surgery. After the surgery, my symptoms improved dramatically. It has now been 5 weeks and I have minimal to no back or leg pain. I was literally carried into the office, but now I am walking and ready to return to work in a few days. My incision has healed beautifully- hardly visible. I feel lucky and thankful that Dr Ghostine did my surgery and strongly recommend him.

My husband had surgery on his neck in summer of 2011. This was done by another UCI neurosurgeon. He recovered well for several months. Then he started to have trouble swallowing, and just generally went downhill over the next couple of months. They were unable to determine why. Just after Christmas he was so ill, i took him back to the ENT doctor, and they found an abscess at the original surgery site. Emergency surgery to remove the plate that was holding his spine together was necessary, as well as cleaning out the massive abscess. Dr. Ghostine performed that surgery, was a devoted and caring physician, and saved my husbands life. While it took my husband many months to regain his strength (he was 68 years old), he has fully recovered, and it is thanks to Dr. Ghostine. I bless him every time I think of how sick my husband was.

Dr Ghostine is an amazing surgeon! I had cervical spinal stenosis and in pain for over 10 years and it was limiting my quality of life. he operated on 1/2012 that required fusing vertebrae in neck I am extremely happy and blessed to report at just over a year now I am as good as new! he was so professional and very personable He is so caring about the overall health and well being that he took extra care to make sure that that surgical incision site is not noticeable at all and it is not I have to point it out to people. I Thank The Good LORD for Dr Ghostine ! Blessing to you Doc.

I had back surgery on Aug 17th and went back to work on Nov 26th i haven't had any problems with what Dr Ghostine did. Before the surgery, it hurt just to go to The grocery store. For 14yrs i had a fracture in my L4-L5 my tailbone was sticking out i had a big hump in my back and it was crushing my nerve, All from an injury i had courtesy of The sheriffs dept, The pain was so bad it would buckle me at times.I work in a warehouse, I cant say I'm doing what i want at work not that I can't its because my bosses wont let me. I have nothing bad to say about Dr Ghostine I've never felt better The only medications that I take are benadryl to go to sleep, i don't have any tightness, and i have worked straight from Nov 26th -Dec 7th over 70hrs i don't have ANY PAIN I AM A HAPPY CUSTOMER so for you who said he is greedy and a butcher I disagree It was well worth the money... he even lined my tattoo back up like there wasn't even anything done I am Gratefull that i got the best doctor to work on me you don't become the director of you position for not knowing what your doing THANK YOU Dr Ghostine

sincerely John C McBride.

Dr. Ghostine is one of the most caring Surgeons I have ever met. He takes great care when seeing every patient and spends time to explain his findings and diagnosis in detail. He is also very well trained having completed 2 spine surgery fellowships after completing his neurosurgery residency. He operated on my back and I could not be happier. I have gained my life back and I owe it all to him. Highly recommended. Very few surgeons have his level of expertise and knowledge as well as his caring bedside manners.
While I feel terrible for your suffering, I dont agree at all with the above complaint at all. As stated by the other comments above, it seems that your oncologist and treatment TEAM felt that this was the best option for you. Remember that having cancer and receiving chemotherapy depletes your immune system, making you very susceptible to infections. Again, while I do wish you a speedy recovery, it is unethical and immoral to bad mouth your physicians who give up their lives to help their patients.

Agreed with the comment above. The Ommaya implant used to deliver chemotherapy or other therapeutic medication is requested not by the neurosurgeon but by the oncologist. Usually the neurosurgeon will review the decision but will not argue with the physician ordering the device. Also, remember at the end of the day this is brain surgery and the complexities and difficulties in maneuvering in such small places are unparalleled. Im very sorry to hear about the your difficulties, wish you a speedy recovery and a bright future.

Quite interesting. I have been involved with the medical/surgical field for years and have never encountered a situation like yours. Please give us more details as to exactly what happened. Your oncologist would have been the one to request the Ommaya and make the decision whether or not spinal injections would be a better option. The neurosurgeon would simply honor that request and defer management to your oncologist.

Cancer patients often have compromised immune systems, which is why you are counseled as to the risk of infection prior to surgery. Given this is a surgical procedure, repositioning is not unheard of and not a unique event. Again this is why informed consent is done prior to surgery.

Perhaps your anger is misdirected, but anyhow God bless you and good luck to you moving forward.
