When I rented the car at the Shannon Airport in Ireland last week they told me to return the car with an empty tank because they would fuel the empty car for 1.30 per liter. I returned the car with a quarter of a tank left in the car. I had additional insurance on the car so I would have a zero deductible. I rented the car on June 1, 2012 and returned the car in Dublin on June 7, 2012.
They charged me 214.50 which is $461. US dollars which is on my Visa card.
On the bill it states they charged me 1.6260 per liter, a 8.37fuel service charge and a 3.00 credit card fee.
I would have filled the car up if I thought I would have been charged this amount. They did not tell me the truth and I would like this corrected.
My invoice ref. # is 80/0816984 The rental is under James Harvey Mullens, last 4 numbers of my credit card is 9551.
Thanks for looking into my request!

This company is a fraudulent entity which should be avoided. In 2018, they charged me $1600.00 (appx) for a scratch under the front bumper which was not incurred during my rental. Although, I had CDW Coverage with my credit card they ignored the coverage and charged my card for the alleged damage. They also tried "Bait and Switch" with my reservation when I arrived at the counter after an all night international flight. They claimed they did not have the BMW 6 Series I reserved and offered to put me into a Jaguar for an extra 30 euros per day I refused complained and demanded they give me an complimentary upgrade since they could not provide the BMW. I also stated I would be following up with a complaint to Hertz and the Better Business Bureau. MIRACULOUSLY they informed that a comparable AUDI had just been dropped off at there return station (at 6 AM - sure) which would be available. I have been travelling to Ireland at least annually since the early 80's and these rental companies are complete scam artists who are privately owned and contract with established rental companies for use of their brand names (ie. Hertz at Shannon is owned by Ryan Investments). They prey on the traveler and this industry requires governmental oversight and regulation.

In 2019, Hertz tacked on an additional $40.40 on a $1, 607.30 one week after i paid the bill in full in Shannon and they stated I was present and authorized the transaction. I was in the USA and I am disputing this charge.

These companies are monopolies who are unregulated and continue to RIP OFF the travelling public. It is corruption which is out of control and the government turns their back on it. Wonder why? Envelopes anybody?

To Whom it concerns,
I made a reservation on 04/26/2018 with Hertz through Expedia. I have attached all the relevant details.
When I booked the reservation it specifically says "The total price includes all mandatory taxes and fees", I have highlighted this for your convenience.
When I arrived at the Hertz pick-up location at the airport I gave them a copy of my insurance coverage sections and told them that I did not need insurance as I had purchased the "collision damage plan" at which point I was informed that I also needed "supplementary liability waiver".
This by definition would label it a "mandatory charge" in my opinion. This was an extra cost of 133.00. There was also a "location service charge for 22.91 and another tax of 74.74.
These three charges add up to 230.65 which is 57% of the total cost of the rental. These charges were not made transparent and in fact I think some if not all are fraudulent charges.
I have two questions for you and all I want is an answer to both of these,

1. Can you enlighten me and tell me which of these charges are NOT mandatory? (Mandatory definition: required by law or rules; compulsory)

2. In regards to the "supplementary liability waiver", I want to see the insurance coverage limits in place for this policy for the driver and dates attached.

Sincerely, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I sent this to Hertz Cork on August 13, 2018, still no reply.
I sent it to Hertz Corporate US on Aug 17 and they responded with an acknowledgement of receipt. I got email below

I THEN EMAILED EXPEDIA WHO ARE GETTING THE SAME RUNAROUND AS MYSELF, HERTZ CORPORATE.

I really think that they sold me a fraudulent insurance policy and now have no paperwork, they can't forge as I will check with insurance company.
I will not let this go. I'm going to be in New Brunswick, New Jersey after the holidays and going to pop into J&J HQ with all my paperwork. Mr Boland also has connections with J&J Vision Care Ireland.
Insurance fraud is the worst type of fraud a company can be accused of, no other company will ever do business with an officer of a company that has been accused of insurance fraud.

They lied to me as well. I made my reservation through the 800 US number and was advised that they were putting collision damage insurance on the car and that when I arrive at the location in Dublin, Ireland to pick up the car, that upon presenting the letter to them from my credit card company, which states I am covered, that they would remove the charge. I did present the letter to them and they told me they would remove the charge. They did not and now they tell me it is because I signed when I picked up the car and when I returned the car. The guy told me when I picked up the car that he would remove the charge. When I returned the car to the airport, they give you no option on signing as they are only porters and you have to sign and then go in the airport and dispute at the counter. The counter people were just as useless, told me I had to call Customer Service, which I did and they were closed until Monday. I flew back to the states and was not paying for a call back to Ireland. Hertz US and Hertz Ryan Investments are crooks and liars.

Dear Council,

I hope you can stop this illegal, unethical practice of Hertz rental car at the Dublin airport.

Strong pressure to upgrade a pre-paid car. Quoted only 40 euro per day extra for my 9 day rental. Said I actually signed a contract allowing them to collect 44.4444 euro per day. Added 5 euro credit card fee. Added 30 euro administrative fee. Added 26.43 Location Service Charge. Added 61.62 euro, Code A @ 13.5%. Total was €523.05

€523.05 / 9 days = € 58.12 per day. (NOT the only €40 they offered me.)

Then they cheated me by running my American Airlines/BarkleyCard World MasterCard through a bank partner called Monarch, I believe, that converted my €523.05 charge to $ 648.61. This calculates to a 1.24 conversion factor, when the exchange rate on August 8th thru August 11th range at or below 1.18. So they padded the exchange fee by about 5.50% to steal money from their customers.

My Hertz/Dollar Invoice Ref No. 80 / 4474414
Hertz Vat # I.E. 4556904J
Printed 08/08/17

After contacting Hertz twice and MasterCard to verify Hertz jacked up the conversion rate from Euro to Dollars, I have not gotten any satisfaction.

Avoid HERTZ at SHANNON and anything to do with Ryan's Investments! Unfortunately Ryan's "investments" are through shaking money out of you in any way he can. It is horrible and should be more widely known. Just this past week, we had the misfortune of being thieved. Heading back to Shannon Airport, he hit a patch of gravel covered in oil from an earlier accident and swung into a hedge along the car's left side. We were towed in with damage on the front and left but tires intact though significant front fender damage.
We missed our flight but were greeted with a one line bill with hardly a detail—just rounded off numbers: 5, 000 plus 1, 600 hundred repairs. Claims that big dents on the RIGHT side and BACK of car were fixed. Oddly the new photos were identical to the ones 1 month prior to us taking on the car yet we were charged. In the prior pictures the dents were written as 2-3 cm, in the new frames described as 20 cm! Oh ho! I kid you not! Same measurements in the photos according to our insurance. Avoid Shannon "Hertz" AKA RYAN Investments if you don't want a scam

Only bad experience on trip to Ireland in June 2015 was with Ryan's Investments, Hertz Rental at Shannon Airport, based out of Wexford IE. The battery went dead the morning needed to drive to the airport -after calling for road side assistance-they said not covered for rental-even wtih full insurance-and they could call someone to jump me-but I would have to pay him direct. I said what choice do I have? AS the time grew closer to our departure-and a 78 and 11 year old in tow-a kind irish gent gave us a "free" jump on battery and we ran to catch our plan at the airport. Even though I notified the "friend" of Hertz at Shannon that we were all set and on way to airport-he chased me down in car trying to pull me over and stopped only before arriving on airport grounds-I checked car in and signed off on 700+ rental charge only to find a 900+ rental charge which included $132 after I signed final bill for "sevice call" that never came thru for us. CC company could not adjust-rental agencies have the right to "adjust" cc after you sign as they see fit according to Bank of Boston. CAUTION WITH CAR RENTALS AT THIS LOCATION IN IRELAND. Ireland folks were wonderful except this guy!

I TOO HAVE BEEN CHARGED EXCESSIVE CHARGES BY HERTZ CAR RENTAL IN Shannon.
I rented car in Shannon Ireland and Dropped it off in Dublin and they are charging us $ 2, 420.00 for what they call a scratch but was a small scuff that could be rubbed out with a soft cloth. Outrageous have call everyone and mailed letters to hertz and Ryan Investment so word for anyone. Hertz does not have good customer. They have no customer support

I too was overcharged nearly $380.00 for CDW, PAI and theft insurance... Never asked for these coverages but they appeared on my final statement...checking with hertz and the governing agency in Dublin...since I apparently signed the receipt there was not thing they can do...a pure and simple rip off...I am seeking legal assistance for when I return again next year...this is a matter of principal...
