Home Builder, RW Hertel & Sons of san Luis Obispo, CA built our home in the rancho Obispo Development today I learned most the homes have massive defects with Leaks, and TOXIC MOLD, my neighbor at 1720 Singletree Ct has Smith & Sons MOLD people at her home all day I asked what for and the pace Suit guys said the Homes are FULL OF TOXIC MOLD the builder concealed it from us renters and that the State has told the builder to re-do all 53 roofs since the entire development if DEFECTIVE and has MOLD.

We have been cheated and lied too by RW Hertel & Sons.

Well here we go again now the rains have come and all the Hertel homes are once again leaking this is after they " Fixed" now for the tenth time. The CSLB says there license to build in Calif. in No longer good. They do NOT have a valid contractors license any more. They went into the wine making business.

VERDOT, LP dba as 5 Mile Bridge is the name brand from building leaking homes to now wine I wonder what is in the wine ? it is sure to make you ill just like their leaking homes.

Your correct, the firm is really VERDOT Group, L.P. a sub of Hertel Group, LLC they do have an ABC License # 451098 located at 45 N Main St., Templeton, CA 93465 this is the same people involved in building defective homes. 5 Mile Bridge is the winery so to speak, I would have their wine sent to a lab first to make sure it is wine and not cheap colored water.

Yes, Indeed this is a new business for Hertel and his co-horts in there money laundering con's. 5 mile bridge is a Wine making adventure with Hertel's land man Tom Habbick as the Boss man while Ron Hertel and Bobby " Boy" Fowler as the partners. Remember tom habbick sold his defective home in Rancho Obispo in the long history of Hertel fraud. So if you have information on 5 Mile Bridge and it's wine and money laundering schemes notify your local IRS office.

This is the same builder who was the Front Page Story on building Below Standard homes in Rancho Obispo, San Luis Obispo, CA so I now see famed House Detective Barry Stone has just revealed he was Denied access to Hertel homes that were New ? go to housedectecive.com or go to google to see Barry Stone reports that RW Hertel refused to allow him to inspect the homes for a person who wanted to buy one ? Hertel knew he was building substandard homes and tried to hide it. The lady did not buy and now we know why the Homes are all Defective and Moldy with ongoing leaks. So once again Hertel lied and cheated and is covering up his defective homes. In addition the State CSLB issued a National Press Release on RW Hertel on 10/19/2005 again check on Google, yahoo or CNN it is all very well know Hertel is a lying cheating con man.

I took your advice and contacted the Cities in questions and the State CSLB they all confirmed RW Hertel is a substandard builder who cuts coroners and cheats. They told me to call the last inspector hired Johnny Zamrzla of Palmdale, CA he confirmed all 100% of the Hertel homes he was hired by Hertel to inspect are defective and not to standards. So thanks for the heads up, I will try NexisLexis and Choice Trust next week. But now know Hertel is a bad bad builder.

You poor people who got cheated by Hertel and company, you need to conduct a Search of his many improper dealings.

Check, with you local building officials, State Contractors Board, BBB, WestLaw, Local Courts and County Clerks office for Suits, Liens, Judgments. You can use LexisNexis, ChoiceTrust and the Secretary of State or CSLB they have an extensive file on him and his company. Many valid complaints as well as many court cases against him and more Insurance Fraud matters as well. He is NOT a member of any valid Builders Association due to his poor reputation and lying ways. he is know as the worst builder in Central Calif. coast and has cheated many people and financial institution's as well. Verify the builder of your home and do a check before you Buy. If it is RW Hertel & Sons be most Careful.

I know of many who got screwed by Hertel and his buddies. If you have any thing on them call the State Contractors Board and the IRS they are seeking any Criminal Information on RW Hertel and his many associates for a Criminal Charge. He is nothing short of a Liar and Con Man of a FRAUD. He is apparently cheating developer Bryan Troxler Development as well so watch out for any of Hertel projects State wide. You will be cheated, lied too and scammed.

Ron Hertel is a joke he was trying to be funny at the Ventura Rotary Club meeting in September but he was a fool...

Indeed corruption and loan fraud are a way of life of these people, I once used their Attorney Adam M. Daner, Esq. wanted us to use his SS# [protected] to set up phony accounts to launder ill-gotten monies.

Needless to say I left and hire a honest firm, The companies are Hertel Development Partners, LLC with Thomas Habbick, Robert JS Fowler, Ron W. Hertel Dan J Harkey, William R. Zech just to name a few.

Be careful to Atascadero Ventures, LLC and RW Hertel & Sons, Inc. as well all are crooks and liars!

Hello RANCHO OBISPO HOA MEMBERS, as you know by todays mail we all got notices of increasing our dues or a major special assessment all because of Board mismanagement and Hertel defective homes we all bought. We need a NEW board and better representation get involved we are in fact Loosing the legal battle not winning so all because of Hertel concealment of the leaks and Mold and yesterday i was shown photo's of one home who had Warning signs posted Hazard due to Mold Contamination so get involved vote this board out and a new one in Vote for Sam Blank, write in and vote for any other who are not currently on the board we need new people.

Ouch, I know this Hertel well and his very dishonest Lawyer Adam M. Daner. Adam was passed over for a partnership at a firm he once worked at in SLO, most of the associates who once worked with him have quit and Dave Money broke from him as well. He and his wife in need of money adopted some kids from CHINA and since he has a very " Mean" part to him it is no wonder so many local lawyers and judges think he is a nut job, he works for Hertel and lies and makes false statements for Hertel because all the honorable lawyers will NOT work for Hertel all know his reputation as a builder is crappy thus Daner's reputation is also crappy and we all laugh at him.. I was living my home today for lunch in Hertel's Rancho Obispo Project on Singletree Ct. when at the end of the street where DeVaul and Singletree intersect I saw a big Yellow Service Master truck with several Space suited guys taking lots of sheet rock, insulation etc.. out in HazMat bags I asked what was going on ? They said " Many of the homes are Defective and they are removing MOLD contaminated materials from three of the homes due to ongoing leaks. So much for the Truth or lack of it by Hertel telling us they fixed the defects. Tomorrow I am hiring my own expert and if I have MOLD I will consult a Lawyer to file a suit against this lying builder.

Interesting if you like Hertel homes then come back and buy mine it is worth 50K less than i bought it for and why do you avoid the facts the State Contractors Board, the City inspectors, and now I'm told more than 10 independent insurance inspectors have ALL agreed Hertel homes are shoddy, below standard and then we see all the suits against Hertel where he again was found GUILTY, it sounds like your a Hertel sales man in need of some sales ! Good luck you will need it and oh by the way why is Hertel back in SLO having to again re-repair three homes this week all with Mold, here are the address's 1772 Singletree, 1963 DeVaul and 1965 Devaul Ranch Rd. not to mention the last 51 homes the State made him re-flash, re-roof etc... come back anytime i will sell you mine...

I really can't believe what I am reading here. I worked for Hertel a few years back and found the Company to be of the highest standards. I have fellow friends that worked for KB Homes and others that when I compared notes there building techniques were way below Hertels. I am just watching this from out of state where I am working for a world wide Contractor and cannot believe the ignorance and money hungry mob mentality.

RW Hertel may have problems in his past, but he put these projects together and pushed through innovative and quality projects in SLO, a very difficult slow growth County. Thats why the Houses there are worth so much. My experience is that people have problems and then the California mentality of cashing in somehow, comes to play.

When ever a House is built, things rarely go smoothly. It takes good people to steer any construction in the right direction. Hertel's Houses are very different from "The norm". Anyone who owns one knows that, the rooms are bigger, every conceivable new technology and amenity are included, but they use moderate appliances and standard tile feathers unless owners pay for more. On one project they included a Balcony off the Master Bedroom to take in a great view, but the roofing technique on the balcony failed in a few homes, is that shoddy building, not by a long shot. What happened after was that the roof/floor application was studied and corrected. In todays world there can almost be no sub-standard building. Builders use concrete, standard wood, newer siding, standard Sheetrock and lots of different roofing systems. If a roofing subcontractor uses a cheaper paper, which is the foundation of all roofs then there might be problems down the line. But lying or making up stories about whose fault it is doesn't help at all, its counter productive.

I would think that all these unhappy owners would want to just resolve any issues and move on. By badmouthing and slandering Hertel, you devalue your own home, falsely.
How stupid is that. Well the only reason for it is that people think they can get paid off.

The postings I have seen about Hertel so far by one or two people are ludicrous, this bozo has insulted all the Hispanic workers and gone so far as to call company people child molesters. I would be very bleary of anybody of extreme prejudice, this guy is a criminal or crazy.

I pull no punches when I say you owners are absolutely stupid to jump Hertel and try to badmouth this Company into submission, by blindly following and accepting some idiots personal vendetta against this Company, you are hurting yourselves. If you sue anyone, and lets face it you Cali's are sue happy, you should sue this guy that who's actions devalue your homes. Or you can all go crazy and I will return to SLO and buy one of your homes for cheap, I'll get a good buy.

I agree RW Hertel is a lying con man just last week Dennis of Cinderella Carpets and Showcase of SLO had to file about a dozen liens against his Project called El Jardin at Las Lomas and RW Hertel & Sons and against Atascadero Ventures, LLC for over $ 100,000.00 of unpaid bills Hertel and Fowler are well know cheaters and do NOT pay their bills it is all public records in the County Clerk's office in San Luis Obispo filed on 10-18-07 many others have filed as well he never pays. I agree he too builds cheap lousy defective homes as well.

RW Hertel & Sons Rancho Obispo Development in San Luis Obispo, CA Three Yep (3) more Homes are now being treated for MOLD Contamination and have TOXIC MOLD this after Hertel said they " fixed" the leaks and Mold yet one more Lying scam by Hertel to conceal and cover up there defective homes. Be warned and cautioned about buying a Hertel home anywhere. Well, Well I visited a friend yesterday day in the San Luis Obispo Development called RANCHO OBISPO next to the New Costco built by RW Hertel and Sons, Inc. of Ventura, CA my friends home was Once again under going MOLD Cleaning he told me their are now three more homes just this week going through the same again. After four years of leaks, defects and Mold. Two of the homes are involved in the City low income housing program. I spoke to City official D. Fogg who confirmed several more homes are once again under going more Mold testing and Mold has been again found in the homes after Hertel said they were ALL Fixed after a Indepth State Investigation found them Guilty of faulty building. Why does it take so long or even why can not this builder learn to tell the TRUTH and build homes to code and Not to Lie, Conceal or cover up the facts his homes are defective and leaking and have MOLD. I saw two of the homes inside yesterday that they are a mess. Hertel why?

This is by far the most dishonest and utterly lousy cheap builder I have ever seen, today RW Hertel & Sons is AGAIN back in Rancho Obispo having to AGAIN fix the many leaks and Mold in the homes. I saw them working yesterday and spoke to the City Officials this morning and they confirmed Hertel Again has taken out more permits to fix for the 30th time defects in many of their homes now going on over 4 years in this new now well known Defective project. How long does it take to fix the leaks and mold the two owners I spoke to said they are suing Hertel and the HOA for covering up the leaks the other guy said he is thinking of suing Hertel what a ongoing mess Hertel wake up build a home according to the Code's and stop covering up the defective and leaking homes, oh and pay your bills.

I see Hertel is being SUED yet again in San Luis Obispo Superior court # CV-070372 for Criminal and illegal dumping of Toxic Dirt in the Salinas River at his El Jardin at Las Lomas project in Ascadero, CA not to mention he is again sued in Ventura Superior Court by Fairways at Sterling Hill HOA too does this guy not get it ? Build good homes not cheap lousy leaking one's and try and tell the TRUTH but that is asking too much of a Criminal he has Lawsuits all over the State and the CSLB is still probing his defective building practices.

I was looking for a home with option to lease to buy, I found a few in Atascadero, CA named El Jardin at Las Lomas and others. Regina or Gina I don't recall the correct name was the leasing person after careful consideration she finally revealed to us the Homes have " Issues" when we asked about warranty options at the end of a lease to buy. She informed us the Builder RW Hertel & Sons has a History of building poor quality homes and has some legal problems. I asked if she was a Licensed Realtor she admitted NO, we did a BBB, CNN, Google and finally a due diligence search and well enough we learned the Builder has defrauded many home owners and is facing numerous State Investigations for building substandard homes and that his last big project in San Luis Obispo namely Rancho Obispo was inspected by CSLB investigators and Independent inspectors and that ALL the homes inspected were Defective and many have MOLD where the builder tried to paint over and conceal the defects so Thank you Board for your help. I hope any buyer of any homes will first check out the builder.

I must say i do agree Hertel is a very troubled one all over the State and now i see he is suing his insurance company since they too realize he is a fraud and con man, in Federal Court Eastern District of California in San Joaquin file # 2007 CV-01054 Judge Lew i checked and found he lost if state courts so he is trying to file a case which is fraudulent but the good news is they are watching his every move this builder is horrible all over the State just do a check with State officials, City, County and even AP Wire did stories on his shoddy builder and scams to cheat home buyers. RW Hertel & Sons is nothing but a FRAUD and SCAM Artist Justice is coming his way.

This is an article from a Local paper that was published last year. The man responsible for ALL of the outrageous accusations(named in blog above)didn't just want his roof fixed he wanted $$$ he brainwashed some of our neighbors into thinking they deserved $$$ too. The article is as follows:

'One of the county’s largest home builders has offered to replace the roofs on all homes in a two-year-old San Luis Obispo subdivision in response to an inspection that followed owner complaints.

R.W. Hertel & Sons sent a letter offering new roofs to homeowners in the 53-unit Rancho Obispo neighborhood after an independent inspector reviewing the properties raised questions about the long-term viability of the roofs.

Hertel hired the inspector as part of an agreement reached with the Contractors State License Board last fall.

'We stand by our product and want to assure the satisfaction of our homebuyers - today and 10 years from now,' said Hertel vice president Bob Fowler .

According to contractors board spokesman Rick Lopes , the independent inspector found evidence of leaks in seven out of 49 homes but raised questions about the viability of the other 42 roofs that were checked, saying they might leak in the future.

Hertel said it would remove the old roofs and replace them with entirely new ones, contracting the work out. If all homeowners accepted the offer, it would cost the company between $1.6 million and $4.8 million, according to its estimates.

'We have built several hundred homes on the Central Coast,' Fowler said. 'We want every buyer to be happy with their Hertel home. We regret that this situation has developed and we are eager to help resolve it once and for all.'

The board opened its investigation into Hertel, the first investigation the board has ever opened into the company, after homeowners complained that 27 of the homes leaked. That investigation was closed when Hertel and the board reached the agreement to inspect and repair the homes.

The agreement between Hertel and the state also calls for the company to submit a repair plan addressing the complaints in the development, Lopes said. The board has yet to see the plan, which is due Friday.

That plan may include some windows, Fowler said. Windows that are replaced will have an additional two-year warranty on them.

Lopes noted that it is not unusual for a problem with one home to be repeated throughout a subdivision because builders will use the same design and subcontractors throughout a development. He added that he was pleased everyone in the project would have the opportunity to get a new roof.

'They all paid to have a new home with a sound roof,' he said. 'We want them to have what they paid for.'

The roof offer is voluntary, according to Hertel officials, who added there is no indication that every house in the development leaks but said they preferred to handle the situation proactively.

A representative for the homeowners association could not be reached Tuesday'

Hertel handled a bad situation thoroughly and professionally they do not deserve the bad rep. We are HAPPY with our home!
