RPM Collection Agency / Awful experience

The phone number [protected] showed up with several other numbers on my caller ID for about the last month. The calls would come in whether I was home or not. Since I didn't know of anyone at the numbers listed on my caller ID, I didn't worry about not returning the calls. I had just gotten a new phone number, so it was probably an 'inherited' problem.

Today, I decided to answer when the call came. I was harassed by a woman who claimed that I owed money to Verizon for phone service. I have never had an account with Verizon. She claimed that I owed about $168, was rude and close to thuggish about it, and asked for the last four digits of my SSN. When I gave her those digits, she said, 'Oh, my God! I have the wrong person!'

I really let her have a piece of my mind. Here I had given her all this personal information, and I'm the wrong person! She asked if my address was some street address I've never heard of in life. I told her it wasn't. She apologized, but this was after treating me badly over a relatively small amount of money.

I requested a letter stating that it was a mistake be sent to me. She claimed that she had removed me from the system, but would not agree to send the letter. I just didn't want to have it added to my credit report by mistake since she had called me by mistake.

Not once did I receive any documentation in the mail from RPM at any time. THERE ARE UNAUTHORIZED PEOPLE (THIEVES) OUT THERE WHO TRY TO COLLECT MONIES THAT WILL NOT END UP IN THE POSSESSION OF THE ORIGINAL CREDITORS, SO WATCH YOUR BACK.
