Ross Dress for Less service

Complaint #1. FYI: I am a 57 year old, white woman.

Twice, now, on 2 different Tuesdays, but within a month of each other (one occurred in Manassas, VA, the other, just yesterday, occurred in Fairfax Va), the cashier failed to remember to give me my 55 and over discount. My totals were, all together, over $500, so this was not some small discount.
When I went back to the store, they said I'd have to come back ON A TUESDAY for them to make the adjustment...IF they could make it AT ALL. Not happening...my time and the hassle of dealing with your incompetent employees is worth more than $50...but really?

#2
As a result of several (not one or two, but 3) cashier errors yesterday in Fairfax VA, I had to return to my Ross (in Manassas, VA) to try to straighten out my receipt as I am a stager and need to itemize purchases for my business. The manager at the Manassas store, just now (she was Indian...I was there at 9am today), told me she could NOT do anything to credit/charge me for the mistakes that had been made yesterday...because they were at another location! I had been double-charged for one item, and NOT charged for 2 items! And she said, "No, I cannot do anything here. You must drive to that location"!

What kind of absurdity is that? Your mistake, both times (forgetting to give me the discount, and screwing up my order) and I, the customer, am told to drive the 45 minutes, in DC traffic, to straighten it out!

Bad, bad customer service.

You need to better train your employees. They have NO IDEA how to make adjustments...and, today, she treated me like I was the one trying to swindle YOU, saying, "they have security cameras there". What?

I do not appreciate being treated this way.

Fran Franke
[protected]@gmail.com

PS. I spend boatloads of money at your stores. You can look me up.
You should take some time studying the business model of Target...those employees are efficient, polite and there are RARELY any lines at customer service as they get you through so quickly.
I love most of your merchandise, and your prices can't be beat, but your lines are usually very long, your cashier knowledge and politeness are serious lacking.
In her defense, the first cashier I was with today (she had to call the manager), said quietly to me after the manager walked away, "I'm so sorry...I don't know why she couldn't adjust your receipt here...it makes no sense".
She was an older, white woman, don't know her name.

Ross Dress for Less wrongful termination

So many problems from the get go starting with after they offered me a job it took a month for them to get back to me about orientation and then before I could start that I had to wait for their email to come thru so I could fill it out and that took another 4days by this time Mariajose already called me blaming me for taking so long and when I finally got in I notified them about my availability changing because of my child care situation had changed. Two weeks after putting it in the computer and taking all the appropriate steps to do so Mariajose tells me that she denied the change and that my children will do fine if I just put them to sleep...! My kids are 8 and under and she wanted me to leave them alone at night just so she can have her ### covered at the store.. she gives Ross and bad rep and shouldn't be in any position of power because she has no idea what she's doing and she has loose morals.

Ross Dress for Less loss prevention

I had my money stolen by another customer after accidently leaving my Clutch in the stall in the restroom. I reported to the Loss Prevention and they nor Management would help me in getting my money back. They would not call the local Police for me, or approach the customer, then they proceeded to remove me from the store for following them. I emailed the Coorperate Office and I'm yet to get a response from them. I bet if I accused them of stealing merchandise they would have done something.

Ross Dress for Less horrible attitude!

Went to one of these Ross Stores and had a terrible time there. Ross Stores employees were terrible and rude! I have no idea why but one of them though that I wanted to steal something and abused me in front of other customers! That's terrible! They blamed me for something I did not do, and humiliated me! I will never come back to that store!
They did not even apologize, just asked me to leave the store. Horrible attitude!

Ross Dress for Less unethical behavior

Saturday 10/16/16 I had an encounter with a representative named Christopher who was very rude and disrespectful. I had inquired about an item in stock and if there were others he was not helpful at all he replied " when we receive our stock it goes to floor", I then asked if there a was a way of looking item up to see how many is on floor he stated "no" in a very sarcastic tone, then when attempting to complete transaction balled up clothing and bagged it . I suspended transaction and refused to give my money to an ungrateful employee I have never experienced such from any Ross I've visited this has changed my outlook on future visits.

Ross Dress for Less framed picture / disrespectful manager conduct

My fiance and I have been customers at Ross for years. Over the years the service unfortunately has been lousy. Being on a financial budget and fair prices was the only reason we have shopped here for our families clothing, etc. The staff here are extremely rude, unprofessional conduct and the use of profanity is disgusting. Today I tried to make a return. I had the receipt and the tags were still on the product which I paid cash for. After hearing from the customer service girl that I can't get my money back because it had been damaged in the store before I bought this item was very unsettling to me. I then talked to the manager and he was sarcastic saying that I couldn't get my money back "because that's what my employee just told you, take a hint"! Wow, this infuriated me and sickened me. I will never shop at Ross's EVER again! Disgusting behavior.

Don't blame you one little bit for not shopping there. My husband had purchased an item at a store. Broke it while getting in the car. they exchange it for him without a blink of an eye. They should do that if they want you to come back.

Ross Dress for Less rude and nasty employees

Recently went to one of these Ross Stores and was shocked! They provide the worst service ever, their employees are rude and nasty. Terrible store and terrible people! Wanted to buy something but wasn't able to find the cashier. Went to find some help and saw two employees which were just standing there talking. I asked where the cashier was and they replied rudely and said they had no idea. I asked them to go and find the cashier because I did not have time and they said they were busy. Are you kidding me? What kind of service is that? I left the store and bought nothing.

Ross Dress for Less unfair practices, scandals, open racism, corruption, and a living hell

Store managers, district managers, loss prevention managers, and even hr managers at this company are incompetent and scandalous beyond belief. They openly and proudly partner with the immoral and unethical employees, and openly humiliate the good employees in public. Nothing good has come out of working for this atrocity of a company. Turnover is through the roof, and the good, hard-working employees are terminated without warning. Favoritism is blatantly displayed at every level of the company.

This has been the worst experience of my career, and i'm so glad that i exited this company when i came to my senses.

It's about time someone filed a complaint against Franklin Cho, one of the most unprofessional and incompetent managers I have ever met.

When you receive multiple complaints from multiple employees about being bullied by managers, you should do something about it. You don't just ignore it, and shrug your shoulders. You do something about it. Take a minute and read the laws. Maybe you'll learn something.

All of the people who work under him are a reflection of him. Employees leave left and right, and the bullies are promoted. Disgusting company.

Ross Dress for Less returning an item

I returned a purse with the tags still on it, they had never been taken off and the purse never used. I also had the receipt and it had been several
months since I bought it. the cashier tried several times to scan it. it was not in the computer anymore so she said she would have to do it as a no
receipt return. I asked her if that meant store credit and she said yes. I
did not mind that as I shop there all the time. she proceded with doing
that and gave me the paper thin in-store credit card. when she was done
I went and looked for some shoes and found a pair for 10.00. I got a different cashier when I checked out. he took the in-store credit and when
the transaction was done he told me my balance was 10.00. I had originally
paid 39.99 for the purse that I returned. the first cashier never explained
that she was only giving me half of the original price, if she had of done
that I never would of let her do it the way she did. now I will not shop there
again but will take my business to TJ Max.

Ross Dress for Less rude manager

I worked at a Ross in Washington state and I had the most rude guy as my boss. He was an area supervisor and would roll his eyes and make this condescending face at employees when they asked something of him.
The worst thing he did though was accidentally give my pay stubs (I don't work there anymore) to another employee and when she pointed out that they were mine and not his, he told her to burn the paystubs. I have had troubles with this manager because I knew he had a problem with me.
I've also heard stories of him just lashing out on employees and bullying them also. What do I do about this?

Ross Dress for Less area supervisor at ross pay is only $1.00 over min wage

If you're considering becoming a manager for this company let me give you insight, DON'T! Your yearly raises are 10 cents to 25 cents! Yes, cents! Your schedule is usually one month in advance but never set in stone because when other managers call out, you are stuck closing for them or opening which totally messes up your life when you make plans. They should have it that store managers are required to close 3 Saturdays a month since they only have to close once a week and ASM have to close one a month. Area supervisors shouldn't have to close on Saturday's since they get paid nothing. The holiday schedule is the worse! They open at 7am and wont close until 1am and they're even open on Thanksgivinge even though they have no black friday sales! On holidays they should close earlier. On Christmas eve they close at 10pm? They should close at 5pm. A early shift so that way only ONE manager specifically the store manager should work that day since they get paid the most! Even on new years they should close earlier than 7pm! They only care about MONEY and not their employees! You will be given a lot of responsibility for very LITTLE pay. If they want their turnover for management to decrease they should PAY their managers MORE. It's the managers that run the store but they don't care! Also, they should have MORE full time positions open other than managers! It would help with the turnover rate and they can actually keep their hard working people and they can start molding them into something more!

Ross Dress for Less service, store 0414, reg. 05, trans 8563, 05/10/16

I've visited several Ross stores where I have made purchases and at each check out counter, I don't have a minute to count my change and return it to my wallet before a clerk is requesting the next guest while I am still gathering my bags and money. That kind of treatment really is quite uncomfortable to experience. And on another occasion I inquired about a set of pillows which were lying on another register and asked to see them and a clerk responded, " I can't show you because I am on a time schedule and management don't like for us to stop the line to get items for customers." I was outrightly shocked! So, of course, I didn't purchase it.

It seems that Ross standards have declined and I won't shop in a store that has NO customer service or consideration for their guest. Those guest are directly responsible for those employees salaries, so one with think customer service would be of the uttermost important.

The associates are NOT there to cater to your every need and cry. If you see pillows at the register, most likely they are either being priced, or a customer left it there. The cashiers cannot stop ringing customers to go out of there way to read you a price, when you can just as easily waltz over and have a look for yourself. And yes, they are timed. If the cashiers dont fall within the required guidelines, it could cost them. Their hours could get cut, and eventually they could lose their job. They are also required to call the next guest before your receipt prints to keep the line moving.

As a customer in line waiting to check out, I would love if coin counters like you would grab your bags, step away to put your purse back together so I can be on my way. To me there is nothing more annoying than having to wait behind the woman who takes 20 minutes just to find her wallet to pay, then another 20 while she puts her change back. Just take your stuff and move aside so other people can get through. Then if there is a problem, that is what customer service counter is for.

Checkouts are not the place to inquire about merchandise. That is the floor personnel or customer service desk. The counter is to check out.

Ross Dress for Less employee complaint

Hello, My name is Altamese berry I work at your bel air Ross. Yesterday on 5/04/16 I was supposed to work your stock shift which is from 5:45am-10:15am. I showed up to work at 5am and nobody was there. I stood outside until 6:30am before I realized nobody was coming to open the door. I was calling the store nonstop from 5:45am-7am no answer whatsoever. I was off on Tuesday when they found out there was no truck. They did not call me to inform me of this and I showed up and stood outside in the dark and cold for 2 and half hours waiting for someone to come open the door. I switched my schedule from the morning shift in the beginning of April so I shouldn't have been schedule at that time anyway, but I was and nobody showed up or called to tell me not to come in. I think I should be paid for the time I had to stand outside and wait for nothing .

Ross Dress for Less returns and overall store experience

This is an ongoing issue that has gotten worse through the years. I don't like to return things but shop for a few people and it's necessary sometimes. I've been shopping at Ross since 1987 at various stores and cities and the descriptive tags at this point have become incorrect more than they are correct. Ex: I bought a black sweater and the tag showed it was a red dress. I have been denied a refund more than once because the description on the tag or receipt said something vastly different than it actually was. They've run the video only to discover that the item IS actually what I bought (I return with the receipt and tag still attached) while I stand there waiting for a long time, looking like some sort of criminal. I considered only buying things that show the right details on the tag but that doesn't guarantee what the description will show on the receipt.

Also, the stores have progressively gotten dirtier, merchandise cheaper quality, and some fitting rooms are falling apart: hooks broken, doors won't stay shut, dust balls on the floor and even trash in the room! Long lines and wait times too. I just purchased something in TJMaxx that Ross was selling the identical item for 20% more. Marshalls and TJMaxx have updated their stores, have great fitting rooms, and allow you to try more items at a time, with higher quality merchandise.

While some staff are professional, I find some seem to go out of their way to NOT be helpful. One cashier made me wait 6 minutes while she got change. She rung up my order that I was paying cash with exact change but she said she had to do it this way! She left to talk to someone else and returned only to count all the cash she brought back before taking mine to complete my order. Have also been made to go to another store so they could view a video so I could complete my return. I understand this policy but then you need to be sure the items are marked properly and not inconvenience the customer for store error!

Ross has not kept pace with competitors and I've given up on the return process. Ross now looks and feels like the thrift store I donate my clothes to and is not worth the time and effort anymore. I hope this is used as constructive criticism and some changes are made but this almost thirty year regular customer has taken her money to Marshalls!

Ross Dress for Less unethical employee shopping practices

At the Ross where I work the mark down clerks are the only employees that get to purchase the items that are significantly marked down, i.e. Mk shoes orig price $200 now marked down to $12 being purchased by mark down clerk only. That example is only one of about 500 items that I know of in the 2 years that I have been employed at the store. Other employees complain but this practice continues. I feel that we should all have a shot at these deep discounted prices and not just those who happen to mark them down. One employee in particular walked out of the store with 2 shopping carts full of shoes, purses, clothes and everything was high end. Oh, and by the way, very few of the clothing & shoes were her size.

Ross Dress for Less the way ross treats employees

While shopping in the Lake Havasu City AZ, after 10;00 pm I noticed a Spanish couple with their two children. They were allowing there children to run around the store un-supervised tearing apart the toy section by ripping open the packages and throwing them on the floor. An associate asked the parents to keep an eye on there children and if they were going to buy the ripped open toy. The parents ignored the associate claiming they do not speak English. They couple soon left without buying anything.
I used to work for Ross and know that nothing "good" happens in the store after 9;00 pm. By that I mean there are no other stores open at this hour in Lake Havasu so all the thieves and drunks come in and steel whatever they want and they know Ross will do nothing to prosecute them. The whole town knows they can steel from Ross and that makes me sick. Why isn't there any security in the store like all the other Ross stores?

The kids are out of control at most Ross'. Once with my Mom at the Oxnard Calif store the ruckus from three kids was beyond horrific. Another spot Ross has lost organization- and temperance. I've found the understaffed element isn't only at my former home jobsite. The stockroom manager was a real nightmare...one occasion threw open the office door, missed hurting me by inches. Doesn't it say OPEN WITH CAUTION? Please. Give your employees the rest breaks they by law deserve, and stop overworking them!

Ross Dress for Less terrible place to work

I recently got hired at a Ross in Miami, Florida. Out of all the jobs I've had throughout my current college career, Ross takes the cake as the worst. My first day, I was barely trained at the cash register before I was thrown into my own and forced to ring up around 20 angry customers who were unaware that I had no idea what I was doing. The managers would get pissed whenever I would call them over due to the fact that they had not shown me how to do returns, give out vouchers, or price checks. After the wave of inpatient customers, one of the managers had the nerve to write me up for being "too slow". This has only been my first to weeks working at Ross and I have already been accused of stealing. I was told I had 'stolen' $9 out of a register and the manager had me sign a paper to send to the company. Also, the loss prevention guy standing in the front spends more time watching me than he does the customers or people that ACTUALLY STEAL (several customers have gotten away with stealing in just the two weeks that I've worked there). He spends most of the day kissing ### up to the manager and snitching on the new employees he catches doing something wrong when it was management's fault in the first place that we never got proper training. And for the people that complain about Ross's 'rude' employees, management tells us we have to call the next customer while the current one is canning his/her card or reaching into their wallet to pay. I hate rushing people just because Ross chooses to have only two registers open. I am very customer service oriented and LOVE to know that someone is happy with their shopping experience. I've never worked at a place that has accused me of stealing written me up because of problems caused by their lack of training, or checked my purse every time I went home.

Ross Dress for Less work environment

I worked for ross in portland, or at the cascade station location. It was terrible! No type of training, management not willing to work w/ you on availability, if you complain to management you don't get hours, minimum wage for everything, w2's take too long to mail out, slow pw, everything was out of date, management would run away from all problems, my location kept extending store hours at the end instead of beginning, stock manager was rude and favorited certain people, night manager would make us stay extra to finish what others didn't not and would not help, never scheduled enough people to work, some lazy co workers, fitting room was terrible and needed more assistance but was never provided, cashiers were old that productivity #'s were low and would get in trouble, stock never had the materials that were needed to finish the line, vending machines in always are my money, store flow always changing in always that didn't make sense, hummers that didn't work properly and bathrooms were never clean. Overall what made my experience a bad one was the simple fact that management was terrible! They don't help, listen, lazy and always take credit for something they didn't do. If you have bad management how is the company going to be successful? Please evaluate the cascade station, portland, or staff! It needs some serious help! Don't get me wrong there is some great workers like carolyn, jasmine both of them, grimma, chevy, cameron, debbie and a couple more but as far as managers they all need to be looked into because it was never fair. Thank you!

Ross Dress for Less accused of theft

Complaint about Brittney, loss prevention employee at Ross Store #0602. 1/26/16, 4:50 pm. The day before, I had purchased a pink nightgown. It didn't fit right. I went to the store the next day to return it. The item had originally been mis-tagged as blue and not pink. So when I tried to return it, the tag and my receipt didn't match the item that I was returning. They asked if I would wait while they verified the purchase. I said sure. Brittney reviewed the tape. She said it wasn't me who made the purchase, but a blonde lady. She told them that the item purchased at the time on the receipt was blue. So management implied that I had switched tags and was trying to return a different item and/or was running a scam with some blonde lady. Brittney walked up and confirmed that was indeed what she saw. I was a bit perplexed at what was happening, but was still in a good mood. I made a joke about Brittney needing new glasses. She didn't take it as a joke. She got loud and rude and said I was personally attacking her. I apologized, explaining it was a joke. She remained rude and refused to accept my explanation. The manager had to pull her aside. They reviewed the tape again at my insistence. I heard one of the other employees comment about me making such a deal when it was a $10 item. So now I had the other employees talking about me and everybody thinking that I was a thief, including the other customers witnessing this. Management returned, apologizing profusely, and said that Brittney had reviewed the wrong day. Brittney had one job, to review a security tape. She couldn't even do that correctly. Because of her ineptitude, I was accused of trying to steal from the store, I was talked about by the other employees within earshot, I was embarrassed in front of other customers. Then when I asked for an apology from Brittney, it was refused. A simple return of an item to a store that I have shopped at for three years. I left the store in tears because of Brittney. And I didn't even get an apology. She should be reprimanded for failing to do her job, being rude to a customer, causing me to be accused of theft, and embarrassed. I'm now questioning whether I will ever shop at that store again, where they will now think I am stealing every time I go there.
