Ross Dress for Less employment

Hello. I have worked at Ross Dress For Less for about 2 1/2 years. In that time I have been sexually harassed by at least 3/4 of the male emplyoyees as well as a fraction of female employees. When I went to management about this She didn't know how to handle it so asked me to wait. The next time I complained all they did was make everybody sign a "respect" paper attached to our morning meeting. It got to were I felt so uncomfortable that I was wearing a long sweater to cover up my body, and my husband would come into the store shopping periodically, just because I felt so uncocmfortable. One of the guys offered my part of his lunch one day. And I could not get management to do anything. Our phone number listing that hangs in the break room was blank. So finally our store went to a new system and everybody needed background checks and BOOM! Most of them were gone and it stopped.

I was hired by Rosslast week. I just passed the backgrownd check, and filled out & signed a lot of paperwprk yesterday. I purchased 2 blue shirts of the color they request employees wear prior to leaving the store. Then I went to walmart and purchased a new pair of black Dr. Scholls black shoes. When I got home, I washed the new tops and black socks I bought.
I wasn't home for two hours, and I received a call from the mgr., asking me to come in the very next day because they were short of help. I read the entire handbook late last night
until I couldn't keep my eyes opened, just so I'd be more prepared. Then late this AM, the Mgr. called me and told me she didn't need me to come in after all today, but she would call me and let me know when to come in. I have read 100's of employee reviews this past week, and I am now re-thinking this entire issue of working for Ross. It does not feel or sound as though it will be a good decision to even consider working there now. The Mgr. seemed
nice at first, but as time went on, she sounded confused and a bit rude not to mention fickle about when I start, or scheduling, and a few more things I won't mention here. I guess I'll wait and see where this goes, but my instincts tell and the employee reviews sugest I would be better off if I move on. These companies, (not limited to Ross) now days, take terrible advantage of people and take them for granted! The Government allowed the economy and all the rich screw up, and now we hard workers are paying for it dearly by being brushed aside, overlooked, dis-respected, treated poorly, and put on hold, waiting to be hired or waiting to be scheduled for enough hours to make more peanuts, while they sit on their lazy smug [censor] twiddeling their thumbs, and there we are, needing and hoping for a crummy pay check so badly just to barely make ends meet! All these desperate boarder line poverty
people like us built this country on hard back breaking work and OUR efforts while the rich benefit and run to the bank with their bags of $$$. ITS ALL SO F----- UP! pRETTY SOON THE DAM CHEESE LINE. THAT IS, IF THEY DON'T EAT ALL THE CHEESE!

Their management does lack quality its as if they choose them just by how long they've been working but have no skill what so ever to manage. they abuse availability even on part time employs by spreading their hours for 3 to 4 hours a day so they can have them come in every day to close instead of a proper schedule, they over work employs so they dont have to use up payroll by hiring more employs worst job ever

Ross Dress for Less advertising like they are jcpenney and gordman's

The clothing, consignment store ross is advertising way too much on tv. They are not jcpenney, gordman's, maruices, or old navy. They're advertising like they're fancy, and have just great stuff. The crap anyone will do to get business. I've been in ross several times and have found nothing special, nothing that stands out to me. I can understand the other stores advertising because they're not discount stores. I've never seen a discount store advertise like ross. They're basically lying to people because they are a discount store! They don't mention anything about that on tv. They need to stop copying other stores tv ads and stop acting like they're big shots. It's starting to get extremely irritating.

I think you really, REALLY need some help with the anger problem. Your life must be very boring if this is "extremely irritating" to you.

Anyone is allowed to advertise, it doesn't matter if they're selling 50 cent toys or $400 dresses. If you want originality in the ads, write them yourself and send them in. If you don't know Ross is a discount store already and need to be told in every single advertisement, then you're a little slow. Just because it's discount doesn't mean they don't have the brand names that you would probably consider worthy of your watching whilst sitting on your butt watching TV. Calvin Klein, Jones NY, Michael Kors, those aren't low-quality brands. If I were selling them at a price cheaper than everyone else of COURSE I'd advertise! It's awesome!

Either stop complaining about idiotic things or stop sitting around watching the TV that pisses you off so much.

Just because they are a discount store doesn't mean they can't advertise. I think you have an anger problem and just need to get over it. I'm sure they know that they aren't JC Penneys or Old Navy, they still want customers and a lot of people shop at Ross and like it a lot. I think you need to find more important things to complain about.

Ross Dress for Less store personnel

Today was the Grand Opening of the Dress For Less store in Butler Pa. The store did not have much inventory selection, or maybe I am used to Walmart. My 13 year old and I wanted to simply look around and take our time to see what the store had to offer. A manager kept following us saying "oh buy something, your basket is empty." This went on and on, we finally just left. The aisles for the womens apparel were so narrow that no one could get past the other person to see what clothes they had. Definitely will not be my place to shop. I will give that store 1-2 years and they'll be done at that rate. The clothes were actually UGLY.

I had a similar experience in the Alexandria Virginia Ross dress for less where the employee in charge of the changing rooms were so rude. I was wondering whether to buy more but that would have meant dealing more with that employee so just didnt bother. The handbag and wallet collection was good but I was highly disappointed just went to the store next door an bought all my clothes at Marshalls..Staff was way more helpful.

Ross Dress for Less unfairness to employee

I have been with ross for over a year now and i had been getting 20 to25 hours a week till now. I am only getting 10 hours a week and i dont think its fair that my hours be taken away from me and given to a kid that doesnt take their job serious in the first place. All these kids that you hire think that ross is just a place to hang out cause they have nothing else better to do. We end up having to pick up the slack cause all they want to do is sneak around on their cell phones and text people or just goof off, and its not right to take hours away from me when i have been very dependable and loyal to you guys. I cant work for 10 hours a week! it doesnt even pay me in gas for that little bit of hours. Please let me have my hours back!Thank you, and God Bless, TAMMY RENEE MATHISON, ( employee of ross of cartersville ga., #582)

Ross Dress for Less unpleasant situation

I went to this location during my lunch hour - I found several dresses but when I went to the dressing room I was told that a 2 piece dress/skirt was counted as 2 pieces (total of 8 pieces can be brought into the dressing room). I told the girl she must have misunderstood as that didn't make sense. Anything on 1 clothes hanger should be counted as 1 piece. She said she was just following the rules. A loss prevention guy overheard our conversation and was quick to put me in my place stating that that was the rule and he wasn't professional about it. I tried on the clothes and had to go out of the dressing room 3 times to try everything I had pulled from the rack. Very inconvenient as you have to redress each time you have to return clothes and get some more. I had a total of 8 hangers but because most of them were 2 pieces I had the problem. I then proceeded to check out which was a nightmare! 2 registers open with none of the cashiers in a hurry. Lines were long. I was very happy this store opened on my end of town, but if this is how they take care of their customers and run their stores, I don't know how many more times I will visit.

My incident occured in San Jose, Ca located on Curtner in the Willow Glen location.

On sunday I went to Ross with two dresses and receipts inside the Ross plastic bag for return. As I entered, there was a super long line. So I decided that I don't wan to stand in line once for the return and then another time if I decided to buy something. I saw some dresses that I would like to try on. I went to the dressing room and the rude fat woman (between 20's to early 30's) told me I cannot bring my bag into the dressing room. I told her she need to make sure no one touches my stuff and she said okay. But I can tell that look on her face that she didn't like what I just said to her.

As I came out, she was no where to be found and there was only one bag there, so I assumed it is mine cuz there is no other bag outside of the dress room. I ended up not buying anyting and decided to return my two dresses during the weekdays since it is always quiet and no line. I am a stay home mom. Today, I decided to go and return my dresses and I opened up the bag which was tied in a knot. I was shocked to find out that the items inside the bag wasn't mind. There was a pair of children jeans size 14 with brand name tag but no Ross tag and a super huge polyster cheap pair of short with a ross mark down tage of $5. My gutt feeling is someone must heard what I told the dress room lady that it is two really nice dresses and she must look after it cuz I don't want anyone stealing them.

My worst fear happened on sunday. Someone stole my bag and walked out of the store since there is no sensor on them. Or my other hutch is the store dress room employee got pissed off at me and switched the items to get back at me.

I called to the store today and no one seem to care enough to help me. They told me that the store manager isn't there. I guess I have to take that big lost and return the polyester shorts for $5 store credit since it is not my item and I don't have the receipt to it.

This happen like around 2 p.m. at Ross. If you are corporate, you should make your employees are accountable for things like this cuz if it happen too many times, you will lose your good customers and attract only the bad customers. Deep in my heart is that I stil think that the Ross Employee switched my stuff to get even with me. I spend hundreds of dollars at Ross already. You wouldn't want all your customers to go to Marshall and TJMAXX. They carry identical products for similar prices. I am just a loyal customer and only putting up this complaint so higher mangement know about these kinds of issues at Ross.

If some Target can help friendly and polite employees, you can too do that!

I hate when customers assume that they know store policy better than we associates do. It's not like we make up the rules, we are expects to follow them though. And no, just because you are a customer does not mean that we will bend rules just to make you happy.

Ross Dress for Less bad customer service/discrimination

I have visited this store twice in the last month and the black employees there mistreat ethnic people and I will not ever shop here again and spread the word. I witnessed how in one case a Asian lady that was standing in line was asked by a clerk that just opened up her register to come check out. The Clerk Melanie that original would have checked out this customer had a problem with this other clerk asking her to come to her register to check out and the Asian lady was sent back to the back of the original line and a black customer now ahead of her got to check out at the other register. I was glad but surprised to see the Filipino stand up to Melanie by saying " If I was white or black there would not have been a problem and I could have checked out allready with no problems" Melanie then proceeds by making comments to the Filipino lady and made her upset and angry. The Filipino did not want her merchandise anymore and then left while the 3 black employees there laughed at her. The second incident that I witnessed was when a hispanic tried to return a dress or exchange it. The lady had a reciept but apperantly the tag was missing and the black employees and manager gave her such a hard time that it was embarassing that she left the dress she had previously paid for and left the store crying. It is ashame that the black people that work at this Ross location cannot treat all customers with equality.

Ross Dress for Less - unfair employee practices

I was a Store Manager for a Ross store in Region 3 under Steve Reed. Ross allocates only 3% payroll to their stores and keeping them in a shoppable, well recovered manner is very challenging especially around Christmas when the stores inventory doubles from what it would normally have during March. I was put on a 90 day performance improvement plan on...

Ross Dress for Less return policy not followed

I am so mad at the experience I just had in the California Novato store that I can barely type. I bought a pair of casual women's shoes at a Ross store this week in Rohnert Park, near my work. Two days later, I went to put them on an realized one was a 6.5 and one was an 8.5. Today, I went to the Ross store in Novato at Vintage Oaks to return them. They have never been worn and I had the original receipt. The clerk told me I would have to return them to the store in Rohnert Park (which is more than 20 miles away). I asked her why - the shoes were unworn, I had the original receipt and it was less than 30 days since my purchase. I read her the policy on the back of my receipt. She said the store would face a loss if they took back the shoes. I argued that that was not my problem. I was following the legal document on the back of my receipt. It said I could return the shoes unworn, within 30 days, with the receipt without a problem. I asked to speak to the manager, Claudia. She simply said the store would face a loss on the return and therefore would not take them back. I would have to drive 20 miles to the original Ross. I asked how that was my problem or fault and she shrugged and looked at me blankly. I had planned on shopping at the store that day but they lost my business. Moreso, I will never shop at a Ross again. The fact that they lie on their return policy is unexcusable. The fact that the original store sold me the mismatched shoes is unacceptable and the hostility and stupidity I faced at the return counter is also unacceptable. This is over a $12.99 pair of shoes. Do me a favor and do not shop at the Ross store at Vintage Oaks in Novato, California.

I went way overboard shopping at Ross in Roosevelt Blvd 19149, Philadelphia. When I was packing my suitcases I realized this and return some of the goods about a week later. The items all had their tags and I had my receipt. the guard helped me courteously when I asked him the procedure for returns and the cashier was very nice and accommodating. I got back some cash and I had to swipe my debit card as I had made more than one purchases, some with the card and others with cash. I love Ross and will be going back there when I visit America again. Great job Ross.

Novato Ross hires the dumbest of the dumb and the slowest of the slow. The only way I can get through the line is to promise myself a treat at See's Candy next door. If Ross treats their employees so poorly, then maybe those employees should better themselves so they can go work for Target! Same goes for Rite-aid. In the end, I guess you get what you pay for. Waiting in Ross lines and watching their checkers move at a snails pace while managers look on and don't pitch in, makes me want to drop my would-be purchases and run screaming out of the doors!

I 100% AGREE! I will NEVER Shop at Ross again, for the EXACT reason. I had a return, with my receipt. I did not, however, have my debit card, which is how I paid for the item. They REFUSED to take the items back because I didn't have the card I paid with---even though the reciept had all the information they needed.
I live 25 miles from the closest Ross.

I complained to the manager, and she said, PLEASE call our district manager and tell her. WE have NO power here. WE have to work over time, and we can't even afford to shop here. SHe went on and on about how poorly the employees are treated, and about how powerless they are to give any kind of customer service.

On their ads, they show all these happy shoppers--I NEVER see that in their stores. It's almost like going to K-mart lately, in fact.
The clothes have gone WAY down hill.

I'm going to H & M from now on, or even Marshalls.

It's the employees' job to make sure the shoes are matching. The registers used to have the pop up alerts whenever they scan a pair of shoes. Nothing could be scan until the cashiers click on the alerts. If the shoes are mis-matched, then it's Ross' fault. Their employees failed to do their job whether it was the stockroom's or the service desk's fault.

Ross Dress for Less mistreated employee

Last week I learned of a Ross District Manager in the Dallas area calling an employee, "The cancer of the store." I realize that term is used among managers but never directly TO an employee. I feel that the employee has a legal grievance. This employee is being harassed because the employee is making more money than the company wants to pay. The money is well deserved. The term, "Cancer of the store" is a personal slur and is offensive to anyone of character.
If you have good advice regarding this offense, I would ask you to please leave it here on this website. Thanks for the input.

Employers have every right to gossip amongst themselves as you do. If they are not effect the wage, nor in some way slandering this person to the point of direct emotional distress or effecting his/her job, then no you cannot do anything.

Is it tacky?
Yes.

But people gossiping is not something punishable by law.

Ross Dress for Less customers are always right?

I always read the complaints on these complaint boards and listen to customers complain about poor service, horrible retail managers and unkempt stores. And there is no argument that many retailers do themselves no favors by allowing this to continue. However, I'm waiting for the numerous complaints about rude customers, about customers that drop merchandise on the floor, or anywhere they want. I'm waiting for complaints about customers who leave there kids in the toy department to destroy merchandise that another customer may want to buy, or the customers that drop and break merchandise and just walk away as if it didn't happen. The fact is, too many individuals feel that because they are spending their money it gives them the right to be discourteous, and operate by no rules. Before you rush to complain about any retailer, examine your own behaviour in public.

Just made a purchase at Johnson City Tn, $246.12. For 40 minutes the cashier tried to run my debit card. Swipe it again it didnt take it. Then it was, you need to use another card that one was denied. Finally the card went threw and it printed a reciept. Got home and checked my account on line. My debit card was charged 4 times for the $246.12, also a credit card was charged $246.12. In total I was Charged aprox $1250.00 for the purchase. Contacted the store manager and in a very unconcerned mannner she informed me there was nothing she could do about it and gave me a 1-800 number to call. Stayed on hold until the office closed with noone answering the phone, I have to go to a lot of trouble to have these charges removed from my accounts. The store could care less if they have caused me to have to bother with this crap. Ross Dress For Less cost me one hell of a lot. Didnt save any money and it will cost me a lot of time for there screwup.

Wow I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Ross customers seem to be the worst. You won't trash Macy's or hell even Wal-Mart the way you trash ross. It seems like the same customers come in everyday and piss and poop on the bathroom floors, throw clothes, toys, and food all over the floor. Until customers can respect the store then I don't want to hear complaints

I work part time in a Ross Store, that recently opened in February, (Tulsa Hills Ross in Tulsa Oklahoma). Thus far the store is still in excellent condition, although we work hard to keep it that way! By now, it could easily look like other Ross stores in the area. Sometimes the calibur of your clientele and the attitude of the customer will and does determine how well your store will be kept up. This particular Ross is in a fairly new shopping center, and we are constantly complimented on the condition of the store. I always, always make it a point to thank them, and I also throw in a comment about the customer helping us keep this store in good shape. Now before we get the store in shape before the opening of the next day, we find merchandise all over the place. It would surprise you, or maybe not how disrespectful the customers can be to the merchandise and the store. I have all too many times seen shoppers drop their children off in the toy department while they shop, and the kids tear into the packages, and leave things all over the place! My mother taught me to put things back where you got them. It is the most simple rule to follow, and would go a loooong way towards helping the employees of Ross keep the stores looking nice. After all Ross isnt in the business of having a huge payroll, because as of late, management has been requiring us to be out of the store at night within a certain time period, and this makes it hard to keep the store up, when you have constant turn over and customers trashing the stores. It's not up to Ross employees alone to keep the stores nice, it is also helpful for the consumer to just simply put things back on the shelf or racks where they belong. Hopefully this new store dosent fall victim to the trashy store reputation that Ross has, because when it does, I will quit!

AMEN! Goes to prove that if your trash, your trash money or not. We spend 25% of payroll just on clean up. Belivev it or not we do not go in and trash a store before ungrateful customers come in, Oh heck, the one who do mess things up can, t speak let alone read english.

Ross Dress for Less big mess, great deals

Even though this store looks like a bomb exploded. They still have great deals. The mess comes from the customers who just dumb their stuff in random places. I know this. I use to work there.

Don't shop and don't work for Ross store. Most of the employees that work there are very unhappy for their work duties, salary and not enough hours given to them. Imagine you come to work for just 3 hours and recover and clean 1 to 2 department?
Don't shop there because the merchandise you want to buy are not being treated with care. The fitting rooms are very nasty, because they have no restroom for customers, guess what becomes the restroom? Oh yes the fitting room becomes a restroom, imagine the janitor only works in the morning before the store open, there is no janitor during business day.
Don't work there because you will not get enough respect, they will make you work like a horse for just less than 3 hours and they will even cut your hours even more. Some of the employees that worked there were illegal, just here in the Bay area they have lost 35 employees after working for them for 2-3 years because they were found illegal workers. This seems to be happening yearly to the company, losing people because they were hiring illegal then 2 years later they lose employees.
Ross store is not a good place to shop and work for.

Ross Dress for Less management problems

I slipped on the waxed floor in the Ross dressing room yesterday. When I spoke to the manager about it, she laughed in my face and refused to look at the floor. This was the store manager! I complained to Tony Deplasco, Larry Bennett and Steve Reed, all Florida regional managers, about compensating me and reprimanding the store manager. I was told off and hung up on by all three men listed above.

Ross Dress for Less cigarette smoking by employees

I work nearby and it is discussed all the time about employees and management smoking out front. Customers can't get into store without passing through cloud of 2nd hand smoke or come out into it. Cigarette butts are all scattered out front and carried into stores all around. Managers and employees should have a smoke room or smoke in back of store if that is how they choose to die.

You folks who have been so hell-bent for leather to get smoking out of the workplace will just have to understand what you created. Where there were once well ventilated and separated smoker friendly break rooms, there are none. Where once restaurants had well engineered and pricey smoking sections, there are none. Hold your breath for a few seconds while you approach the outside lounge YOU have created, and offer an ashtray, while you are at it. Most smokers prefer it to the ground.

It's coming. Your rights will be the next to be taken away for the benefit of some other group of people. Take a lesson here and learn to adapt as smokers have had to do.

Ross Dress for Less managment

I am an employee and have been at this store for a ffew years and already am tired.the assitant manager has worked everyones nerves.she (assit.mng)speaks unkindly to employees, has made employees cried.when she is left in charge of the stock room it never seems to stay 100%. Then at the end of the day she blaims the stock team and gives them an choice either move faster or get fired. One day she asked a stock person to stay and help in the stockroom and ended up leaving instead of staying. She is resposible for that stokroom and is not supppose to leave untill its a 100%. Today she came in on her day off during store hours in jeans to help. All she did was remove hardlines from boxes and dump trash..after that she was in the office and left..She did not help with staging at all..No help with stripping or hanging or running racks. She never does unless there is a visit.

She has walked away from customers when she feels she is done checking out customers. Customers do not like the way she speaks to them..I have had several customers who are regulars that complain about her. Customers complain about the way she speaks to them. How she is short with them. The assit. manager feels because she speaks in a nice tone that her words are not hurtfull or condesending. She belittles people with her words and always questions the way people do their jobs even though they have been there longer than her.

Hours are always being cut but managment never feels the voids and that is there job yet they want eveerything a 100%. The employees can only do so much when is managment going to kick it up a notch. Management is always pulling people from other areas to put them on register or stock room or the floor because of a visit yet will not be back up or stand in the fitting room for 30 min. or even 15 min.

This store is losing good people ude to lack of good managment skills and work habits. Assit. ng is black yet puts down other black employees. She only gets along with about 3 people...She will allow some toeat together all the time yet when someone else does it she is quick to end that. If someone else takes a paid 30 min. break she doesnt say a word someone else takes a 18 min. break she is all up in their butt and starts pagging them.

She will twist Ross rules to make them work for her. Noone is suppose to take a lunh 2 hours before they leave and she always does and since she doesnt have to clock in or out she aometimes takes longer than an hour. She walks around looking busy but everyone sees her doing nothing.I lnow paper work needs to be done but not all day...

DOnt think this complaint is for stupid reasons I have hada a couple of jobs where Iwas not happy so Imoved on to better pay and better work ethics... Here the pay is good the job is easy but management makes it uneasy, unpleasent, many people wanna leave, and that is not good work ethics. I do not work well with rude, stupid, igorrant people. What ever issues she has she also brings to work and she is the only one.

This needs to be confronted and taken care of. She has gone from onestore to another and issues are still the same. That should raise a red flag...

Sincerely,

An unhappy employee

I was just at the Buena Park Ross, bought 5 items, came home. Noticed that I only had 4. Went back with my reciept. Was treated like a criminal! The manager, for some odd reason wanted to watch the survallance camera. What does that have to do with being shorted? Then balled all of my nice neatly folded clothes up and threw them back into the bag. He told me that he wasn't going to give me my money back for the stated on the reciept item, because, he could only see 4, even though the regist er and my wallet counted 5.Then I told him that I was going to have every known agency on his tail. And the money isn't coming out of his pocket, so what does he care?To be awnery, he sent me to another really long line to collect my money. I will never step foot, in another tacky Ross store again. And I was a very good customer. July 26th2009

Ross Dress for Less employment

In the month of August 2008 I submitted a application for employment. A friend of mine told me to call in September since I had'nt heard from them. She is employed their. I called and the hireing manager at the time asked me to come and finish my application process. I filled out a background check paper and finished a multiple choice test. Since I was supposed to start work after but have'nt. The new hiring manager told me that she would contact me today but has'nt. I don't even know if my application was processed due to manager friendly relationships with employees. One of my friends was hired on the day I finished my application and she says I should've started by now! The new hiring manager is not the lady who gave me my documents to finish, but is friends with a employee that boyfrienf was sent to jail because of pushing me. I strongly feel that I've been violated to work because of this. The managers name is Bridget. I just would like to know what store policy is after you've done and passed what is required to recieve a job. Should I go to another store where I don't know anyone at and do another application because I feel like Ross is not EOE.

Ross Dress for Less mistreatment of employees by managers

I just want to say the managers at Ross Store Inc. in Farmington, NM downgrade their employees where others can hear and never compliment the good work they do. I want to suggest the higher ups whoever they may be visit this store and talk with the employees on how they are being treated by two of these managers. In my opinon these are not the type of people who can build a good reputation for your company. I think the turnover rate should speak volumes about the type of management on hand at this time. The employees deserve better. Also in closing when a two week notice is given the managers right up a bad report just because a two week notice was submitted. I hope some action is taken very soon.

Ross Dress for Less a store that treating their customers like thefts

On March 10, I bought a set of four place mats and other stuffs at the Tukwila, Washington Ross Store (Store# 0044). For some reason the machine couldn't recognize the bar code of the place mats at the time I checked out. Therefore, the cashier scanned another item with same value as the place mats instead. However, I didn't realize that since both of the item cost the same.

On March 31 afternoon (around 16:20 pacific daylight time) I tried to return the place mats at the same store in Tukwila. Nevertheless, the sale associates at the customers service counter, Todd and Senada, told me that I couldn't return it since it isn't listed on the receipt. I explained the story to them, but they even not tried to listen to me and grabbed the place mats then tossed it behind the counter. I negotiated with them, yet they insinuated that I never be able to prove I paid for the place mats since it is not listed on the receipt. Finally, I leave the store only with the receipt.

Such thing never happened at other stores like Marshall and TJ Maxx in my experience. I felt that I was being insulted and I believed your company should provide better customers service training to the sale associates. I can say 90% of the customs won't check the bar codes number and the name of each item on the receipts upon the payment. How the sale associates, Todd and Senada, could insinuate that I stole the place mats and tried to get advantage from the store? Do you think it is worth to get advantage from the store for only $3.99? In addition, it might possible that I brought the wrong receipt (even though I am absolutely sure this is not the case). How could the sale associates, Todd and Senada, grabbed the place mats which was belong to me and tossed it behind the counter just because it was not listed on the receipt?

My incident happen in the san jose, ca Curtner location of willow glen.

If some Target can help friendly and polite employees, you can too do that!

look when they scan another item in place of yours they have to put a note on the receipt or give you a new tag. And yes people steal from ross everyday, underwear, toys, clothes, shoes, food you name it. Sorry that everyone has to pay for these thieves. But on your end you should only bring items to the register that has a tag on it to avoid these situations

Hi I am so sorry about your experience :( I work for a store in California and this should of never happened. When things like this happen you should obligate the manager to look at the cameras to prove to him or her that you purchased the item. Even if it is extreme it would teach them a lesson. I cannot believe this happened to you. When we scan one item for another we usually write in a brief description on the receipt, the camera records it and if a manager questioned it then they bring it to our attention but that rarely happens. By looking at the camera it gets resolved.

Ross Dress for Less poor customer service

I lost a hand-made Navajo bracelet in the Ross Dress for Less store on Almaden Blvd. in San Jose, California this afternoon. It is sterling silver with turquoise and coral stones, and has great sentimental value for me because it is one of a kind. After looking on the floor all over the store and checking the fitting room myself, I ask the loss control person to announce on the store intercom that I had lost the bracelet and that I would pay any customer who returned it a $20 reward. The Loss Person paged the store manager for permission without success. After an extended period the loss person went upstairs to speak with the store manager. Some time later, he returned to tell me that the store manager had refused to make an announcement on my behalf. I then waited in a lengthy line at Customer Service to let them know that I had lost the bracelet and to leave my name and number in case it turned up. As I waited in line, the assistant manager appeared nearby. I spoke with the assistant manager myself and again he refused to make the announcement. So much time passed between my initial request and getting an answer that any customer who may have found the bracelet had probably left the store. I do not feel that my request for an announcement was unreasonable. Nor do I feel that the extended period between the time that I asked for help and the time I got a response was reasonable. In the end, all I could do was leave my name and number in case the bracelet turned up. As a result of this lack of cooperation and the "who cares" attitude of the assistant manager, Ross lost a sale this afternoon that was worth far more than the value of the bracelet. It also lost a customer for life. I told the assistant manager this, gave my shopping cart full of clothing to the loss control person, and left the store. This lack of courtesy and customer service is unacceptable.

I have been a Ross customer for 10 years, have shopped in many Ross stores.
the store you have at 12690 W.Sunrise blvd . in Sunrise Fl. has very poor
service. Every time I go there, they only have 1 line open and it"s very
long. I've complained to the store manager serveral times that they needed
to hire more checkout clerks. There"s 3 checkout lanes and the 2 customer service
counters. I don"t understand why only 1 line is opened. I don" know if others have
complained, but everybody that" s in line complains when i"m there. I told one of
the managers yesterday that I was going online to the corporate office to make
a complaint, because complaining to him has not changed at the check outs.
I love shopping at Ross and know serveral other people who love shopping at Ross.
Could someone please fix the problem at this store?

Seriously making that announcement would've been a waste of time. Customers do not listen to the overhead intercom. They just tune it out. I mean we page people to customer service and to the office all the time. Plus when we close we announce 3 or 4 times that the store is closing. The customers do not listen. We have to still walk up to people who just keep shopping, andtell them personally that we are closed. So sorry but that would have been stupid.

Ross Dress for Less no customer service banner & rude ross employees

Yesterday, I walked in ross stores at the loop, kissmmee, fl to return my short which was small in size. When I walked in there was no customer service board which I can follow and the register which was taking care of returns was lit off.
I went to the next register which was purchase only assuming they are taking care of return. After waiting for 40 minutes in line because of an old lady who was damn slow with the purchases, I got to know that I have to go to the counter which is number 1 counter and light is lit off.
Old lady asked the lit off counter register lady ' virgin' to take care of me next but one other customer started complaining about me coming in between the line. Now what is my fault? There was no customer service board + counter light is switched off as if it's her time is up. I was asked by line manager to go back in line and wait for my turn again.
I talked to the asst/ manager on the spot after that and she agreed that this is common complaint. That means nobody is taking care of it? Nobody?
I have left 3 voicemail with david clark, district manager and waiting for a good response.

I do a lot of online shopping and every time I go into Ross it confirms why. At Christmas they started having "Security Guards" posted at the door in full regalia uniforms. All in black, big SECURITY on the back - OK there is, unfortunately, a lot of theft, and in this Economy it is a serious problem for stores. The guards are still there so it remains a problem for Ross and there seems to be fewer stockers and other staff, not that they were ever helpful before. Staff are just like Walmart and as above said, not like Target who is on the ball. The guards follow you around, pretending to straighten up items like a stocker, but very obvious they are checking to see if you are shop lifting. Very obvious...and very intimidating to me. I am Not shop lifting! I have to bend down to see items on the lower shelves and my eyesight is not good so it takes me awhile. They wonder why Ross is not busy here in Tequesta, Florida, while next door TJMax is always packed and never felt I was being followed.

common sesne would tell you to go to the customer service area, which would be a booth like area like the only one in the front, or maybe ask someone before getting in line. the only reason why i think you complain about this is because maybe you've never had to work at a retail store and had to deal with customers with no common sesne like yourselve. i have shopped at this ross at the loop many times and know this "virgin" lady you speak of and she has always teated me with respect and tried to be as helpful as possible to every customer. maybe you shouldn't bother the district manager with such a minor complaint. its a store. not your life.

There should always be a customer service person up front. Hopefully you'll get a nice gift card and a major discount for the complaint. Good luck and keep us posted.

I had a HORRIBLE experience at Ross today
11-29-09
The store was closing and something caught my eye, the line was pretty long and i figured i would go glance at it and one of the employees came to tell me that the store was closed and i told her that i was aware but i was looking at something and i was going to return to the line. She called a supervisor that told me i HAD to wait in line and I work in retail and i know that by law they are not allowed to "Force" customers into doing anything unless they are disturbing customers, which I wasn't. Then the supervisor kept following me then he finally left me alone for a while and i jumped in line cuz it was starting to shorten up. After two minutes of being in line he came up to me and told me i had to leave the store! THAT WAS F***** UP! i have never been disrespected in a store like that! I will return again and i better be treated with respect. This location was in Los Angeles on Hollywood and Western.
